After ten years of suspecting gross carpeting was covering up hardwood floors on the top level of my house, I brought several companies in to give me estimates for refinishing. Erick, the owner of Excellent Floors, was so nice and thorough and his estimate was the most competitive, so I chose his company for the job. When they removed the carpet, they found that my floors were in bad shape and would either have to be replaced or stained a darker color than the rest of the house. When he texted me the news, Erick sent me a picture of the blemished floor as well as a portion of the floor his guys had sanded and stained with various dark samples. He also told me to take the time to see them in person when I got home that night, and when none were really what I wanted, he and his team worked to mix a few colors to make it what I was looking for. He was incredibly kind and patient throughout that process. They had also found a small section between the room and closet floors that was missing wood altogether. They filled that and made it look even better than the bridge between the room and another closet that was originally there. And, when they added more to the final bill for that work without discussing with me first, Erick understood and brought that addition down to a more reasonable amount. I also had an issue with the floors on the main level, in that a reducer between two rooms was just high enough that my Roomba constantly got stuck there, so Erick custom made a piece for me and stained it the same color as the original floors, so Roomba can now travel freely! After the final job was done, I noticed a small section of wall missing shoe molding and another piece of wood on the floor in the closet that hadn't been stained the same as the rest, and Erick sent someone out on a Saturday to finish those areas. The only downside to choosing this team is that they couldn't move any of my furniture, but some friends and I got a great workout from doing it ourselves. I will absolutely use Excellent Floors again and would highly recommend them to anyone else looking for this kind of help and service! read more

Working with Erik was a great experience, from start to end. He was always responsive, so communication was perfect. He brought me several color samples for my wood floor, offered me suggestions, answered all my questions (which were many!) and did 4 color samples on my floor for me to choose from. Part of the job he did at my house included the installation of new wood planks in the kitchen, where I had the ceramic tiles removed, matching the rest of the wood in the house (which probably has around 80 years). He warned me that the transition is never perfect, but can get close. And that was exactly the result I got. Because of the configuration of my kitchen, the 2 transition areas can barely be seen because of a peninsula. So I don't mind having some slight difference in the wood color in the transition areas, that are only noticeable by a very picky eye. The second part of the job was the sanding, staining and coating of all the wood floor in the house. When the house renovation was almost done and I needed the floor done to be able to move, he made a big effort to do the job during the week I needed it and as fast as possible. The few spots I found in the house that were not done the way I expected, he corrected them, with the best attitude. I never had to insist. He also gave me suggestions on how to maintain my new floor and even left me a cleaning kit that won't damage the beautiful coating he put on my floor (satin finish). The only mistake during the process was my own, I wanted to choose a more brownish color to get rid of the orangey one my floor had (typical color in many houses in DC). But the Golden Oak I chose didn't do the trick. If I could go back I would choose a different color. read more

We contacted several flooring companies to help us with an attic remodel where there were original wood floors underneath a layer of carpet and tile. Some companies felt the job was "too small" and tried to up-sell us on adding new wood floors instead of restoring the original. Upon reaching out to EFS, I got a quick response from Erick who came out the same day to give us an estimate. He was very accommodating to our interests in this project and appeared to be as excited as us to restore our heart of pine wood floors to their original beauty. On top of this, EFS was very competitive in their pricing. On the day of the job, the team was very efficient in removing the old carpet and tiles, and they took their time in bringing the wood floors back to life. Additionally, the crew paid attention to small details, like cleaning up after themselves. There was even one guy who ended up vacuuming my entire porch just to make sure no dust from their work was left behind. I was impressed by their level of care in their work and by the frequent and transparent communication by Erick throughout the process. I could easily text Erick and get a response within an hour. I've been a customer of Excellent Floors Services for a few years back when Erick's dad was running the business and they did an excellent job back then around 2006 on my first home to just using them last week for my current place. Erick thoroughly explained the process and did an amazing job on refinishing my wood floors. They look brand new. I had a great experience with Excellent Floors. We had an aged original parquet white oak floor and other contractors said it couldn't be refinished. EF was confident it could be done and explained the process in detail. They came and did samples on part of our floor so we could pick out the color. They worked fast and the result was awesome! All for a great price. There were even several really worn areas (looked like water damage, or a loose tile was stapled in place, or a piece of a tile was missing). But after they were done, it looks like a brand new floor! Can't recommend them enough. read more
