Had this coffee spot bookmarked for some time. However, it'll be a hard pass next time. It's a little shop, and I appreciated the decor, it stood out to me a lot. Service & friendliness : 2/5. It was literally just to take my order. Even after I ordered a brownie ube & poptart (warmed up), she basically forgot about it and I had to remind her awkwardly. I would say the two workers were talking more than working or interacting with the customers. And there was only 2-3 other people inside. Iced Matcha latte: 1/5 I only took 3 sips and if I have to force myself to like a matcha latte then most likely it isn't as good. I'm not sure what it is and if making it sweeter would have been better. I always get iced matcha lattes at many spots but this one just wasn't it. So sadly threw it after my few sips. The desserts there from Ube Area: 1/5 the brownie ube was okay but it made my throat hurt shortly after. Ube pop tart: 1/5 it was hard to chew and I just didn't like the texture of it. Solid coffee in the heart of the Excelsior. There are so many coffee shops in San Francisco but I remain loyal to this neighborhood gem. My go to is an oat milk latte (I know I know, cliche) and that first sip always hits. They have a bunch of other cool coffee drinks like horchata latte and ube matcha latte plus various ube pastries. After my routine school drop off, I usually go to Philz. But I thought...why not support a mom and pops place and I remembered that this place had an amazing horchata latte. Plus I saw that you get a free shot of espresso or brewed coffee with the Yelp check-in. I ordered two almond croissants, one Ube truffle, one horchata latte. The good: The croissants are freshly baked every morning! The almond croissant was crisp and flaky on the outside and had delicious almond paste inside. The not so good: What happened to the latte? It didn't have that rich espresso horchata creaminess as I had before. Plus, it didn't have the pretty art on top. The ugly: I had spent $19 with tip and showed them my Yelp check-in and asked for a cup of brewed coffee. The young ladies at the front said they've been instructed not to accept these anymore. So they could not honor this Yelp deal. I left disappointed. Overall, I'd come back if I'm in the area for their delicious almond croissant. Maybe I'll try a different coffee. read more

I stumbled upon this place on serendipity. I honestly wanted to go to the coffee shop on the corner and as I was walking up the I noticed this store. Tbh I had no idea ,I always assumed this location was the "haircut store" to my amazement it's a coffee shop with pastries! Parking : Mission street meter parking and side streets meter parking. Came here on a Saturday afternoon and there were just a couple of people in the shop. The shop is a decent size with a large table in the back, bench outside, and a couple of seats near the entrance window. The vibes on this shop is definitely not what I'm used to, but it's nice and different. We got the horchata latte, ube brownies, and pandan mo'nut. The ube brownies comes with two bars and were rich, but wasn't overly sweet. The mo'nut reminded me of some vietnamese honeycomb cake and it was delicious. The horchata latte didn't have a strong cinnamon taste so I probably wouldn't get that again, but I would definitely come back for their other pastry treats. Parking can be hard in this area and from the time we were there, crowds come and go. Definitely worth checking out for just their treats alone. read more

The Excelsior provides such a hodgepodge of small businesses that I sometimes have a hard time remembering where the hip places are since they sit next to decidedly unhip businesses like a coin-op wash & dry or an old school donut shop. This very hip and very narrow coffee spot sits on Mission Street near Excelsior Avenue right where the 14 and 49 MUNI buses stop. That meant waiting passengers took advantage of the cafe's one outdoor bench without any thought given to the actual customers like me. It wouldn't have irked me as much were it not for the fact that you really can't hang out at this cafe. There just wasn't enough room to peruse the local art that was for sale or ingest the ube desserts which appear to be a house specialty. There was, however, a robust selection of coffee and tea beverages, including horchata and tea lattes. I ordered the $4.50 Cafe au Lait which I found quite satisfying (photo: https://bit.ly/3K0GkpS). The interior has a somewhat industrial vibe highlighted by the placement of a motorcycle on an elevated shelf. I think it's a cool spot even for the hopelessly unhip like me. As an ube lover, it made my day to find this place! They serve ube pastries from Ube Area and also specialty drinks including the Ube Matcha Latte. I got the ube tiramisu (are you kidding me!!) and the ube pandan brownie - you cannot go wrong with these! The barista was so kind and helped answer any questions I had and she was the one that recommended the tiramisu for me. Definitely THE place to go for high end coffee in the E. Everything, including their baked goods and occasional pop-ups, is high quality. Prices are what you would expect for fancy coffee, but slightly cheaper than average. Good service and nice people behind the counter I wouldn't buy any of their merch though. The second I walked in I felt unwelcome, and when I walked up to grab my drinks & ask about the baked good I purchased, she barked at me "we're getting it." Without a smile or even a look up. My husband goes almost every day. If you're looking for a last minute coffee before they close @ 4:00pm... careful! Sometimes they shut their doors a few minutes early! I came here based on a friends recommendation and I'm so glad I did, since I was able to cop a non-dairy horchata latte, a matcha latte for my friend, the Ube flan, an Ube truffle, the crinkle cookies (ube, buko pandan, and calamansi), and an ube poptart! I did go slightly crazy but man oh man every penny was worth it! I definitely recommend the leche flan since it was perfectly creamy and you could taste the Ube. My friend and I also really enjoyed both of our drinks and could not stop thinking about those crinkle cookies (calamansi all the way)!! Filipino dessert lovers, check this place out! Came here on a Sunday at around 12:30pm. I mostly came for the ube treats from Ube Area. I ordered a variety of ube things: pop tart, tiramisu, crumb cake, brownie, and tart. I also got a pandan brownie and a latte. The latte was okay. I thought maybe there was too much milk. I really wanted to like the tiramisu, but it was too sweet. Pandan brownie could have used more pandan flavor. I thought the ube brownie was good. I loved the pop tart and tart. They weren't too sweet, and were just delicious. The tart was smooth. The pop tart had just the right about of flakey-ness. Crumb cake was moist. For sure I will be back for the pop tart and tart, and also to try some other coffees. read more

One of the things I missed the most during the pandemic was spending money on overpriced drinks at hipster coffee shops, but man, Excelsior Coffee really hits the spot- in fact, it might just be my spot! The design of the store and the interior decor is so cool, and they have a small wall highlighting art. I went during my lunch break as a dire reprieve for caffeine and was met with killer service, as the cashier was super friendly. She was super patient when I was deciding what to order and when I was asking her questions about the pastries. I ordered the Iced Latte, Marbled Ube/Pandan brownie, Ube crinkle, and Ube white-chocolate cookie. When you do a yelp check-in they give you a crinkle for free! The iced latte was the right amount if sweet, and the amount of caffeine in there was surprising- I drank it around 2pm and was still active til 2am! It was my first time trying pandan and it was pretty good, but it was the overwhelming flavor of the marble brownie- next time, I might just get separate ube and pandan brownies instead. read more

Amazing coffee shop! Their amazing selection of ube flavored pastries is what first drew me to the shop. I especially love the ube brownies and the flan. A bit on the sweet side in terms of their pastries but perfect with a black cup of coffee to wash it down. Lots of parking although Mission St. is often quite busy. A little less busy with the stay at home order in place, but still busier than most streets. I came by and decided to try this new spot in addition to my breakfast run at Ann's across the street. This was a nice supplement to my breakfast. I have mixed feelings about a new coffee shop like this in the E. We've never had hipster coffee and even the coffee shops we have had here (Cumica, Mama's Art Cafe, Ann's across the street) is very community-vibe feeling. This felt like gentrification, but run by people of color and had baked goods that fit the Filipinx community in the E. I'm conflicted. The latte I had was solid. Nothing special. The desserts were pretty solid. Get with anything ube. I'm a sucker for Asian flavor desserts and they had an assortment of ube, pandan, even calamansi flavors! I had one of each of the Mochi Donuts - it was okay. I think I prefer the mochi donuts in Japantown more, but probably because those are more easily pop-able. Flavors: ube (really good), butter (tasted more like coconut), chocolate (very light chocolate), and coffee (no coffee flavor). Crinkle cookies - I ordered a dozen. You can order by one individual, three's, or a dozen. The texture of all three were pretty good. Soft in the inside and with that extra sweet on the outside. The flavors were pretty subtle. Flavors: Ube (probably the best one), calamansi (super light flavor at the end), and pandan (also light flavor) Ube/Pandan brownie - I couldn't taste the ube/pandan at all. It was a good - a little sweet and almost caramel-like, but I was a little disappointed at the lack of either flavor. It's hard to mix those two and be able to identify both though! Overall this is a nice addition to the E, but hoping that folks patron the other coffee places around to keep the E local and community. read more

This is a pretty cool coffee shop! I bet it would be a great place to hangout, but of course the times we are all currently in prevent that. Our early visit was great because we didn't have to worry about parking (we only saw metered spots directly outside). We decided to order the horchata latte, a latte with ube syrup, and an ube flan cake. The horchata latte wasn't as horchata-y as I would have liked it...more like a hint of cinnamon rather than a prevailing horchata flavor throughout the drink. The latte with ube syrup was yummy! It wasn't at all grainy and had the perfect strength of ube flavor throughout the drink. I enjoyed the ube flan cake and look forward to trying a lot more of the ube desserts they have in the shop.
