We all live in Andytown and don't even know it. I'm afraid I'm quite ignorant when it comes to the Andytown coffee empire even though by happenstance, I've patronized three of their locations, most frequently the busy one off Salesforce Park (review: https://yelp.to/N3oi_bmhfG). Clearly I like their stuff enough to be a repeat customer, and this one is far more chill than the others. I wasn't even aware this low-profile shop was even here because it melts imperceptibly on Taraval's blandest commercial block in the Outer Sunset. This is also where Andytown roasts and packages all their beans. I saw some of this activity happening in a flurry behind the barista. I didn't know Andytown has a Northern Irish heritage but found out their in-house baked goods reflect that lineage. I ordered the $3.50 Chocolate Chip Cookie, and the prominent amount of salt was indicative of true Irish technique (Photo 10). Quite tasty and it went well with the refreshing $6.25 Iced Coffee made with their signature, chocolate-tinged Shore Leave Hook blend (Photo 9). Most people take their coffee drinks and beans to go, but there are a couple of benches in case you want to loiter a bit. Conveniently located a block away from work. A nice mid day pick me up. Everytime we've gone, there's a line, so that must say something about how good it is. I've had many different things at Andytown. On my most recent trip I had the minty mocha. Nice smooth flavor with only a little hint of mint. I think I may have wanted more. Of course I had the housemade whipped cream on top. Other occasions I've had the original bird and the matcha plover. I think I'll have to say the matcha plover is my go to. I like that it's unique and different to Andytown. This space is the roastery so it's very unique. It's not a space for reading and studying it's grab and go. When the drink came, I expected a candy cane on top. I asked about it, and the barista said it was in there. It was not in there. It usually sits on top. I ordered their matcha plover and was really disappointed. The matcha was very watered down and lacked quality. The plover was interesting and I haven't seen it at other coffee places but it did not go well with the matcha. I also had their blueberry muffin which wasn't anything special. We come to this Andytown location a lot and the drinks are always on point! I have to say no matter who is working here the drinks come out tasting perfect. The baristas here are very consistent. The Snowy Plover is one of my favorite things to drink in SF! So unique.The expresso with the sparkling water and their magical homemade whipped cream just hits every time! If you see the cheddar jalapeno corn muffin in their pastry case that's also amazing! If you come later in the day it's slim pickings for food but there's a bakery like two doors down.  Their mochas are also excellent. This store has all the cool Andytown merch which is fun to peruse and can make for great gifts. They even sell greeting cards here. This location has their roastery so it's not a sit down cafe. There are benches outside you can chill on.  -1 star for the service though. The baristas here are not all that welcoming or friendly waaaah (no greeting when you walk in and nary a smile) which is a slight bummer but I do keep coming back for the drinks. read more

As someone who has made a (semi-religious) pilgrimage to all Andytown locations, I was particularly disappointed by the experience to this location. My coffee was burnt and not well done, and one of the worst that I have had from Andytown. Don't get me wrong, I am still a huge fan of Andytown, but I would avoid this location in the future as it did not have the same level of service or quality I have come to expect. I'm a matcha expert, have tried more than 50 matcha drinks, and my 2 cents: the matcha here is a low quality culinary grade. If you get the matcha plover or latte, you'll have to add extra sugar to reduce the bad taste. For the same price as the Matcha Plover ($7), you can get an amazing Ceremonial grade matcha milk tea drink with topping in SF Japantown (e.g. Maruwu Seicha), and you won't need to add any sweetener as it will have a natural umami. Or just get a coffee at Andytown instead. Andytown, at your price point, please consider upgrading your matcha to ceremonial grade or at least a better quality culinary grade. The original bird (iced espresso with brown sugar syrup, soda water, and whipped cream) was wow, amazing! The whipped cream was incredibly thick, sweet (with a tad saltiness), and creamy; it tasted very fresh. That, mixed with refreshing soda water, was a delightful and exciting combo on a warm lazy morning. Latte (hot, with oat milk) was delicious too. It tasted a bit lighter than the other lattes I've had but also seemed to go down smoother. The texture was *incredibly* smooth with a thick creamy foamy top. The other thing I noticed immediately about this drink was the lack of any "burnt" espresso taste. I actually generally like the slightly burnt (dark roasty) taste, but I did enjoy how this latte had no trace of a "burnt" taste and yet was still roasted dark and deep enough for my taste. read more

A friend grabbed me an iced matcha latte and a chocolate chip cookie from here and wow! I'm not much of a coffee shop person but I was impressed. The matcha latte wasn't too bitter or too sweet but the cookie was sooo delicious! I'm a fan of cookies on the crunchier side and the salt on sprinkled on the face of the cookie helped balanced the sweetness. First time coming to this location but the place was nice, clean, and quiet. I came here on a Saturday afternoon with a friend and there was no wait. I ordered an iced mocha with the addition of their whipped cream. The whipped cream made it a lot better since it made it creamier when mixed in! Although the coffee was strong, there was a slight diluted taste to it (not sure if that makes sense). You can also taste the chocolate. Overall, the drink tasted like coffee mixed with diluted chocolate milk. I would say this place is decent for a quick coffee fix. read more

My fiancé is a FAN of the plovers. It can be a coffee or a matcha, with pelligrino sparkling water. It is an acquired taste, but he enjoys it. So I can't tell you that you will or will not. I was not a fan. I did however enjoy their latte with brown sugar syrup. Delicious and would grab again! Especially hot, when it is cold and windy at the beach. My tip: order online. Great lattes! Always clean. Only issue is the staff is not always friendly, it seems that is the vibe expected.

It saddens me to write this review because: 1. I used to be a huge Andytown fan and purchased their iced matcha lattes from different locations 2. I recently purchased their espresso beans and ended up with a migraine I finally decided to purchase espresso beans in hopes of pulling my own espresso shot, frothing my own milk, only to result in a migraine from this all. I reached out to Andytown's customer support to share my dilemma and was met with countless questions surrounding my nonexistent past history of migraines, if I was hydrated and ate throughout the day I experienced it, all in hopes of receiving a refund or even store credit. Through the 13 back & forth emails we've sent, I've experienced themes of defensiveness and gaslighting, which I would hope is not how they treat their staff as the restaurant and hospitality industry is notorious for. It felt like I was speaking to someone who wanted to diagnose my health, even though they would eventually share that they could not understand the correlation of espresso beans and a migraine. This overall experience taught me that there is a big difference investing $13.25 at Andytown vs. Blue Bottle, Starbucks, etc. I like supporting small businesses, but it's hard to do so when there's a lack of empathy. read more

Coffees always good, but i've been here so many times since moving into the sunset and no longer go to other locations. But why is it that EVEEY SINGLE TIME, the baristas are, not welcoming? Came here several times and I enjoy this coffee spot! It is located in the Sunset and gets busy with locals who stop by for their morning coffee with their doggos! I love their Matcha Latte! I'm usually a cold brew or ice coffee drinker, but their Matcha Latte is delicious and lightly sweet! I've tried their Original Bird and Iced Oat Milk Latte. The Original Bird is an iced espresso drink with brown sugar syrup, soda water, and house-made whipped cream! The original is slightly carbonated which makes it unique and refreshing. If you're looking for a pastry, I love the Soda Currant Scone! It is crumbly and light with currants inside and has a golden brown on top! read more

Love the coffee, the wind and sea blend is one of the best locally roasted blends around. Which is why it pains me to give them a less then great review. But the manager (and maybe she is the owner) has very poor customer service and communication skills. She made me feel unwelcome and had a hard time expressing what it was that I was doing that she did not like. It turned out she was trying to tell me that I could not bring my dog to the back outdoor area - which is fine and I would have been ok with that, had she just said that - but instead she told me that I was not allowed back there, when the rest of my party had already gone back there. I see other comments with a similar theme about customer service issues. In short, come for the coffee - but don't expect good service or a friendly staff - and if you complain about the service don't expect them to care - expect more of a condescending attitude where they feel superior to you and don't really want your business anyway. I love Andytown downtown, but that location is temporarily closed because of Covid and honestly I haven't been downtown in a while because I'm trying to explore other parts of SF! After playing tennis near the Sunset one weekday morning, I noticed there was an Andytown there. That was it, I was going to treat myself! I usually get the matcha plover but seeing the seasonal option, I ordered the huckleberry plover. It was so refreshing, cool, fizzy, and also yes sweet. I love that cream! The matcha plover has some Andytown competition now! Service was good, it's very clean. They sell different SF and coffee drinkers and gifts. Hey, Andytown! Here's a tip on how to make change: If I hand you $20.50 for a drink that costs $5.50, and you start pulling out singles from your till, then you're doing it wrong. (Btw: I have a few singles already in my wallet & I'm putting one in your tip jar right in front of you.) Also, you, the cashier, need the ones more than I do. If you need guidance on how to give appropriate change AND you're mute with the customer (read: me), then you've the problem. LOOK at what's happening during the transition & behave accordingly. Being absolutely silent throughout the transaction doesn't help. Rant aside, this place is OK. This is, after all, a 'training lab' and we are the 'lab rats'. Drinks are either well made or not. Counter staff is either communicative or not. You get what you get. I've given up on ordering a baked good. The Lawton shop, when it was getting off the ground, had delightful, freshly baked goods on the regular. Now, at the Taraval outposts, one either purchases a day-old (Wah! Wah!) or something more recently baked. Again, you never know what you'll receive & that's a bit of a turn-off. Pre-pandemic saw benches out front the roastery for those to sit and sip. The roastery has some lovely cards & coffee table books, if one is looking to buy a treat for someone. This is where I usually buy my coffee. The medium roast beans are very much to my liking. The staff also brew very good coffee drinks, including my usual...a decaf mocha. But I do love the Match Snowy Plover with extra whip. That homemade whipped cream is literally gold. It adds the perfect creamy texture to the drink. I've been coming here since it opened earlier this year. This location is Andytown's Roastery but they have barista hours everyday (M-F 7-12 and Sat/Sun 8-5). There is also another location at Taraval/46th. We live between the two, but closer to this location. My husband and I are regulars (him: latte, sweetened; me: regular coffee if it's morning, but snowy plover if it's afternoon). The baristas are friendly and know us, at least by face. We sometimes come with our little Pomeranian. That's usually how people remember us. :) The coffee is good: smooth, yummy. The Snowy Plover (espresso over ice, sparkling water, brown sugar simple syrup, topped w/ fresh whipped cream) is unique, light, and refreshing. Matcha Snowy Plover is avail now, but seasonal. It is by far my fave! It is the same as original, but matcha tea replaces the espresso. They do pop-ups on many weekends. Churn Urban Creamery (ice cream) is there every Saturday from 12-5. Affogatos are avail! Needless to say, we are there almost every Sat! I look forward to the pop-ups, but either way, you'll find me (and/or my hub) here. read more

Been meaning to try this place forever. Location is kind of in the quieter part of sunset but there are still establishments on that block. Much prefer the Matcha Snowy Plover over Snowy Plover. I'm no coffee expert, so I definitely can't tell if it's premium or not, but the coffee has a sour taste to it.
