This place is a diamond in the rough! Kinda ghetto strip mall but the best nails around! Lots of shellac and gel colors to choose from! Shellac Manicure included hand soak, cuticle trim, buffing and filing. Along with the polish I got a wonderful arm massage and paraffin wax treatment. They offer a week "warranty" on their work, if you chip or smudge or break one just come back and they'll fix it for free! Cindy was so kind and took her time, I didn't feel rushed at all. I live in SW Portland and after checking out listings of "top rated nail salons" I found Exp Salon. I know I am a perfectionist, my nom de plume "RoyalPainD" wasn't given to me for nothing. Ha! I find it fascinating the Vietnamese Mafia controls the nail biz; I am so grateful they do. I was lucky and was given an appointment with Tiffany. I cannot say enough complimentary things about her. I needed my old set of solar nails removed and replaced with a new set. She is not just a nail technician, she is truly an artist. Her attention to detail is extraordinary, her technique has been honed by 7 years experience; no motion is wasted. I wear my nails long with very sharp points, think tiger claws. She understood exactly what I wanted and my nails are spectacular! I opted for shellac polish, again it was applied with perfect precision. We had a great conversation about men, children, MOTHERS, YIKES! and life in general. Removing my old set, clipping my cuticles, new set, shellac and hand/arm massage came to $56! I couldn't pay her fast enough and gave her a $12 tip. I am now a devoted customer. Tiffany cannot stop doing my nails until she puts the last set on so I look fab for the viewing in my coffin. Each time, I made an appointment, but I was greeted abruptly and treated like I was just some bum off the street. Tiffany is good too but sometimes can get a little chatty and loses focus on her leg massages when she talks. You always had to schedule ahead to get them. Now they have a place where they can take quality to the highest level, not using shortcuts that compromise quality. Tracy is the one who helps me I believe she is the owner she was really sweet and offered me a new product for my nails which I absolutely love. Walked in and asked for a classic manicure, which was estimated to take 20 minutes. Lady who did my nails filed them unevenly and rushed through the painting process. There was too much polish on some nails, while other areas of my nails (the edges) didn't have any polish on them. This took 20 minutes. She said she'd be back in 10 minutes to check if my nails were dry. She came back 20 minutes later and stuck my hands under a speed dryer. Ten minutes later, my nails were still not dry because she had put too much polish on, and it was uneven. She checked my nails by tapping on them with her finger, messing them up. I asked her to fix the ones that wouldn't dry and the ones she messed up by touching them. She only put one coat on the ones she "fixed" so now they're not the same shade as the others. In the end, brush stroke lines appear on half my nails, they are unevenly filed, unevenly colored, and the entire process took one hour (three times as long as it should have). I will definitely NOT be going back. Terrible customer service and I honestly could have done a better job myself. read more
