BUYERS BEWARE.... $820 to replace toilet tank components and remove buildup on faucet cap. This company will not provide itemized receipts or breakout costs by service/product. EXPENSIVE, predatory level expensive. That price above was to replace a toilet tank reservoir component (guts) and take of a bathroom faucet cap/remove buildup on nozzle/put cap back on. The tech was at our house for 60-75 minutes tops (including diagnostic time). They did not give a quote over phone beyond a $95-135 service fee to just come out. My wife thought the service was fixing the whole tank for that price. Truth is, you can have an entire toilet removed and new one paid&installed for $760. It's reasonable to state the charges here were predatory and incredibly overcharged. As a business professional, I understand companies have expenses and up charges. That everyone has to get paid from the service tech to the business owners and the admin staff. That also includes overhead costs of their operation... but in what world do you not explain your pricing with transparency??? This company "doesn't itemize or break out service fees." is what was told to my wife, then to myself via the phone. But I can... -tank components: $30 (round it to $100 for up charge and margin) -service appointment/diagnostics fee: $95 That leaves $565 in there bill... FOR 70-90minutes of service???? They didn't replace anything on the sink, and only the tank components (guts). Then threw the old ones in our trash can next to the toilet. So they can't claim "waste removal." I could understand $200 (or $100 a hour x 2). This isn't a union plumber, but even a union plumber would have been $150 a hour. That's still about half the gap missing here. WE WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN. When I followed up on why it was so expensive and I thought they over billed my wife, I was told "we reviewed everything and are all set on our side, billed 5% off for 'a senior discount you shouldn't have gotten.' but we are good. If you still are not happy, I'll throw in a service guarantee and wave $150." I'd be good too if I just profited $300-400 extra then what my competitors are charging. The water hose tube to the refrigerator ice maker, sprung a leak. The service specialist, Chris, replaced it with a more durable hose. He also fixed the pipe feeding to the ice maker and installed a shut off valve. Chris provided a quote and was done within an hour. Giving 2 stars because the job is done. $465 to unclog a kitchen sink, which is incredibly high in my opinion. Plumber told my husband that is pretty standard cost for the job. We've had this issue in the past and never paid that much! Plumber arrived outside of the time window promised, no communication about arrival time until my husband called and asked. If you value your money, stay clear. I called a plumber for basement water issues. My sump pump seemed to be clogged or unable to pump enough water out. By the time the plumber got there, I had resolved the problem. The plumber seemed nice enough, but for my $65 house call, here's what I got: 1). He did NOT inspect the sump pump AT ALL. 2). He did NOT inspect the check valve AT ALL. 3). He did NOT inspect the outflow pipe AT ALL. 4). He told me the brand of the sump pump. 5). He told me I needed a battery backup 6). He told me that the switch on the sump pump was bad. After that, he tried to sell me various massively overpriced sump pump systems. The lowest, installed, was $500, and included parts and labor. He told me it would last a year, if that. From there, the systems were $875, $1200, and $3,400!!! Are you kidding me? I went on Amazon.com. I found a replacement switch for $30. I found the same Zoeller brand (but 1/2 hp upgrade from the 1/3 hp I have now) sump pump for $199, and a Zoeller check valve for $12. All shipped free. So I bought all of those. I'll replace the switch in the old one, then use the 1/2 Zoeller as my main and setup the old one as a backup. I'm in for under #250, and it will take me about 2 hours to accomplish. The feeling I had when they left was that I paid $65 to find out the make/model of my sump pump was really good, and then hear them try to extort even more money from me by replacing it. A company that actually cared about their customers would have at a minimum checked the sump pump, check valve, and outflow pipe. He did none of that, but did the cheesy car-salesman crap about their service plans and fixing my non-broken water heater ad nauseam. Stay away from this contractor. The only thing it appears they are experts in is overcharging people. Too bad they figure everyone is gullible and stupid enough to buy into their crap. Basically just for them to come to my house and use my plunger that was in the bathroom they charged $65. I called for service two days prior for a clogged toilet. Two plumbers came to my home then used my own plunger and said since they can't plunge it they would have to give me an estimate on cost to fix the toilet. Then the plumber grabs some notebook paper and writes two estimates. The first is a charge of $255 to use a Toilet Auger. The second is $560 to remove the toilet to find the clog. I could have told them that the plunger wasn't going to fix the toilet and don't think I need to pay any amount of money to do what I've already tried to fix the toilet before even calling them. I sent them on their way after paying the service fee for them to do nothing I haven't already tried. read more

These guys are amazing to work with. I had them replace a 30 year old water heater with a new tankless unit. It was great to find a company that was knowledgeable with that new tech and not be afraid to install it. Throughout the whole process they took time to answer any questions I had. The financing they offer is also great. The finished job looks better than I was hoping for as they routed the exhaust pipes for the water heater around existing heat vents and pipes in a way that shows they took their time and made it look like it was designed to be tucked away into the ceiling. I was on the road for work when my wife called and told me the slop sink was clogged and not draining. Seeing that I was going to be home the next day, I told he I would take care of it. I did as much as I could do and found the clog went deeper then my snake could get so I called Expert Plumbing. The appointment was scheduled for the following day. I received a call in the late morning from Teresa and was told her plumber was running ahead of schedule (which was a good thing) and asked if he could come earlier. That works out better for me since I had laundry that needed to get done! Lucas was the plumber's name, he was polite and didn't step inside until he put his boot covers on. As soon as he got there, he jumped right in and didn't waste a minute. I thought it would be a simple clean the pipe, which it was (with disgusting crap built up from 50 years of God knows what going down that drain) but Lucas went further by making my DIY plumbing to now be professionally installed plumbing. I know my house is old, and the plumbing as well, but Lucas saw potential problems with my old slop sink and pipes. Rather than fixing what I called for and leaving, he took the time to make my plumbing right. I know my plumbing will eventually need replacing and when I do it, I will call Expert Plumbing again. I had such a positive experience that 2 of my neighbors have had them out for their own issues as well. This is an interesting series of reviews. I had a perfect experience having E.P. come out and take care of my blocked sewer line after another company (Mr. Rooter) sent a complete baboon out to do it the 1st time and tried to over charge us with zero results and a complete fabrication of the situation. Expert's team came out and rodded out the main sewer line in about 20 minutes for a reasonable rate and cleaned up all the waste water that had accumulated in our bathroom with a cool little biological cleaning agent that ate the waste material and rendered it in-offensive. Granted this was some time ago, but we now have the same issue with roots blocking our main line again and I've called them for a service call tomorrow. I will follow up with the results, but they are currently on my 1st call list and I have always recommended them in the past. ...to be continued. read more

Our tankless water heater wet out. Even though Expert Plumbing didn't install it, Chris came out promptly and told us what the problem was. The motherboard and fan went out because the company that installed it never put a screen on the intake pipe outside and all kinds of debris got into the unit and made the fan and motherboard strain and die. Expert Plumbing is certified in installing the Navien and Chris was very knowledgeable on the unit. When the parts came in (they were still under warranty) Chris came back to do the repair and found out this other company didn't do the piping correctly. That's why for the last two years since it was installed, I was disappointed in the amount of time it took to get the hot water. We were led to believe we'd get almost instant hot water to our upstairs bathrooms. After Chris corrected the problem, I was amazed that it takes only 10 seconds for the hot water to reach our second floor bathroom. I felt like Chris was a wizard. I was worried as my parents are elderly so I asked around but no one I knew could recommend a plumber. My dad found a number in their personal phone booked which just said plumber. He called and made an appointment for the plumber to come out. Explained there was a service call fee but that would be used as a credit to the total bill. Also they sent a picture and name of plumber (via email) coming to the house which I thought was a nice touch. Plumber called ahead the day of the appointment to advise when he would be there. The Plummer Chris was a great guy he fixed the problem gave my dad a few tips. Chris was very personable and told my dad about the business and you could tell he enjoyed his job and really giving great service to his customers. They took advantage of my senior citizen parents by charging them $685 to replace two flex lines on their hot water heater with copper lines. This job took less than two hours. They offered to replace one line for over $500. I spoke to 'Mike' the manager who said their prices are 'competitive' and would not reduce the price. Witvoet Plumbing (who couldn't come out as quickly) said their pricing for the same work would have been about half that cost, and they could've installed a new water heater for that price range. I asked what the rate would be on the phone and was told they would discuss with me when they arrive which would be a mandatory $65 fee regardless whether work was done. They showed up and announced a $365/hour fee. It was the holidays, I was stuck and had to go forward. I don't believe I should have had to paid $65 to find their rate (which I find excessive and would have found someone else if I had been told on the phone). Do not use Expert Plumbing Service. I needed to replace the out door spigot. You can buy this part at Home Depot for $30. When I called to schedule an appointment I asked what this cost, they said they cannot diagnose over the phone, understandable. A guy needed to come to the house and then he would tell me the price, OK. Guy comes to the house and I said how much to replace the spigot? He says $455 dollars and will take him about and hour. $30 dollar part, $425 for labor- about an hour! No Way! Oh by the way that 10 sec consultation (to look the price up) was $65. I called expert plumbing to have my sewer rodded and camera inspected. They quoted me at $595 to remove toilet, rod sewer and inspect sewer with camera and give me a dvd copy of the inpection. The technician never rodded my sewer, but he did manage to snap the head of the camera off inside my sewer line. They returned the following day to retrieve their camera head and do a sewer inspection, of which they said they could not produce a dvd copy for me. When i returned home from work i found a huge puddle of water around my toilet with water dripping from the tank, and the grout in my floor tile was stained from the work they performed. After the technician attempted to clean the grout he told me I should regrout. Why should I pay to have my bathroom regrouted when they did the damage? I am expecting a refund of 1/2 the cost of the work that was in my view only 1/2 done. read more

The shady used car lot of the plumbing business. Going through my 97yr old father's bills the other day and I come across a bill from EXPERT PLUMBING in New Lenox. When he was 90 he purchased a BUDGET Gerber round white toilet (the simplest toilet) and was charged $833.00 for the job. Original Estimate was $1064.00 (they gave him 20% off) Their breakdown of the charges: $601.00 for the Gerber "budget" toiler (list price of $832.00) $135.00 for a new water shut off valve on the side of the toilet $97.00 for a one year plumbing warranty / inspection So after looking at this and knowing what this job is all about, I research the materials and find; Gerber white round 1.6gpf 2pc unit is $127.80 Wax ring for mounting toilet $12.00 Water shut off valve $7.87 Total parts and materials $162.44 So that leaves a balance of $670.56 in profit Hmmmmm I think a call is in order. So I place a call and asked if this is the same company and ownership from 2009 and it was stated to me as YES, I asked if I could talk with the owner, I was told NO, I asked for the owner's name and was told I could not have that information. (weird) I asked for their shop labor rate, and was told I could not have that either (weird) I asked if a manger could call me back within 48 hrs and was told yes. (there is a start) but no phone call ever happened. (what kind of business is this?) A day or two later I called and asked for an estimate to have a toilet I purchased installed, I was told that they do not give estimates over the phone, I could get a "FREE" estimate when someone came out to inspect the site. All I had to pay was the $65.00 service call fee. Wait, is that a free estimate if I have to pay $65.00??? The next week, I do get to talk to someone called a manager, I had to call,(Theresa) and she gives me the low down as to what she wants me to hear, a lot of talking but no real answers. No shop labor rate, no name for an "owner" just a lot of talk about how well they treat their customers. I assured her I know what this job entailed and starting talking facts and figures which caused her to have to take a day and talk to the "owner" (wait, I thought you were the owner?) So Theresa calls me the next day and tells me she talked with the owner and superintendent and the verdict was that there is nothing she could do because of the age of this situation. (I guess there is a statute of limitations on ripping off old people and I missed it) I asked about this plumbing warranty that was sold to my father on this job, and it was explained that it is not a warranty at all, if something had happened to my dad's plumbing during the 1yr period he would have been charged additionally. So I asked what was the warranty. She said they came out a year later and drained his water heater for him, $97.00 for that. (What nice people) So after talking, I figured out why they do not want to tell you about a shop labor rate as it appears to be a "what the cross will bare" case by case situation. My father paid; $508.00 per hour for the water shut off valve -10mins $235.50 per hour for the toilet to be installed -2hrs would be the most for a professional $194.00 per hour to have his water heater flushed -30mins Now I have no problem with a business making a profit, they need to stay in business and pay all the little charges that go with the business,, lights, heat air, fuel, salaries, but I do not believe they need to hit a GRAND SLAM off a 90 year old person on Social Security. Again after presenting all this to the owner "Theresa" it was because so much time has elapsed, and she would do the same to her parents. Yes he signed the estimate, that is not the dispute. In the sense of the law, there is nothing that can be done. I accept this and my only recourse is this forum so that others are aware. Problem is old people do not see these posts. So there will be others to follow. One last thing, make sure that you get their 20% discount like they gave my father. What nice people to do business with. From reading the other posts on this, I see I am not alone. Business's and their staff that prey on the elderly are a special kind of low lifes. Beware!! Not like most plumbers that come in and say this is it no other choices. They back their work 100% The price they give is the price does not go up if it takes longer or if they run into problems. RELIABLE WORK AND GREAT SERVICE BUT PRICES CAN BE VERY HIGH Excellent customer service, from the people answering the phone to the professionals who complete the work. Everyone I have encountered during my 3 experiences with this company over the last 2-3 years have been remarkably polite and professional. We had a serious sump pump issue that they corrected after I had several other companies attempt it. We did have some issues after Expert's correction, but when I called to let them know that the solution failed, they came right back out with a big crew who took care of it, did more than we originally had done, and put everything back neatly. They fixed the problem by going above and beyond, and without expecting any additional money. In this case, we felt that we received a good value and we were so relieved to have this problem solved, it was well worth the price. Another time, I needed a simple kitchen sink repair. The least expensive option was over $700. I invited another plumber in who fixed it with parts and labor for $90. I asked expert how much time they expected it to take, and they said a couple of hours. It wasn't an emergency, so I thought $300/hour was exorbitant. It is nice that they analyze the problem and provide options, but sometimes I wish they would read their customers and provide the most obvious solution more quickly. If you see them coming LOCK YOUR DOORS!!!!!! I called them for a broken pipe issue due to the cold temperature last winter. The price went from 400.00 to 1000.00 for their service within 10 minutes of their visit. I was so frustrated with the haggle i decided to watch some you tube videos on how to repair breaks in copper pipes and resolved the matter myself after several tries and it cost me 80.00 in materials.
