I had a Restaurant.com certificate giving me $20 worth of food for $10. The restaurant was happy to accept this, some places are rude about it. They have pre made salads in a case, but if they are out of what you want, they'll make it. I had a Greek salad, made to order and my friend had the Field Greens. She had a side of tuna salad, which was fantastic. Not heavy on mayo at all, but very flavorful. We shared a peanutbutter cup cookie, which was huge and really tasty. There are 3 tables inside and 4-5 outside with umbrellas. We sat outside on a beautiful day. This is not a fancy place, but the food is fresh and delicious and the service is polite and quick. I work nearby and this place quickly became our go-to spot for take out and delivery. I'm here at least twice a week, usually even more often, and I have coworkers who go daily. The owners/managers Dave and Josh are both so friendly and always remember us by name. The rest of the staff is super helpful as well. The sandwiches and salads are excellent and there are many different styles and flavors so there's always something appealing to me no matter what I'm in the mood for. The daily specials are fantastic and range from blackened salmon to jambalaya to chicken piccata. I'm a huge fan of their soup specials and highly recommend the lobster bisque - I make sure to order it every time it's on the menu as it's one of the best I've had and extremely reasonably priced considering the quality. I also think their breakfast is highly underrated - the omelets are massive and they are generous with the meats/veggies mixed in. A lot of businesses are located in this area so naturally they get slammed around lunch time but I find their delivery timeframe estimates are always fairly accurate, and there is always the option to pick up in store. They somewhat recently spruced up the interior and it's a great spot to eat in as well for those days where you just really need to get out of the office for a bit. I had to work during lunch, so I decided to get delivery from here, since I had had a panini a few weeks ago at a meeting at work, and it was pretty good. It's right down the street from my office, but I didn't want to pay for parking or waste time in line. I ordered around 10:30 am to make sure it would be here for noon. What they didn't tell me on the phone is that there would be a delivery fee. I don't eat out much, and if I've ever ordered delivery, it was years ago in college (if I'm being naive, google maps said it was a 3 minute drive--barely any gas or mileage). So I was not expecting this. And then I had to tip the driver on top of that. He smelled like he had been smoking in the car with my food--not amused. The first thing I noticed was the brown paper bag was all wet. I had to peel the wax paper from the sandwich, which was lukewarm. I couldn't believe how greasy it was. And that I had paid more than I make post-tax in an hour for a subpar, burnt around the edges panini. Needless to say, lesson learned, won't be ordering from there again. read more

This was BY FAR my WORST experience with delivery service. I am staying on Babson campus for the summer and the driver could not find my building despite numerous attempts to give him directions. He hung up on me and then wouldn't answer my phone calls to try and help guide him to my building. When I called the restaurant directly all the person kept saying was he was sorry and the Babson campus is very confusing (it's not. There are 3 roads). I texted the driver directions and kept trying to call without an answer. When I called the restaurant back I was told the driver left because he couldn't find me and was wasting time. My colleagues and I hung out here after work yesterday. This friendly neighborhood cafe is a hidden gem next to the river in Wellesley Lower Falls. We ordered pulled pork, fresh cornbread, and a couple of salads to share "family style" outside. The food was delish and the atmosphere was perfect on a warm summer evening! I've been going to the EG for some time now and have always received good service and quality food.

I used to go here all the time, but the service is awful. The food is still good, but the experience waiting to order, receive your food and pay is painfully slow. The long timers (the woman and young man who have been there for years) are very helpful, but everyone else moves in slow motion. Even though I work walking distance from Express, I now drive to the Linden deli multiple times a week, where the line is always super long, but you are still in and out much faster than at "Express" an ironic name. Mark's Pizza has also earned my business as they are faster and better priced than Express. read more

I used to frequent this place for breakfast when I lived in Wellesley. It was a nice quiet place to eat breakfast, read a book, and look out at the Charles River on a crisp fall morning. The breakfast wasn't the best ever, but it was good, a fair price, served quickly, consistent, and the staff were friendly. It's funny that so many people mentioned that the staff just don't remember regulars... I never experienced that and they definitely knew my name and my usual order after about the first week or two of going there regularly. The only negatives to Express Gourmet is that it is pretty small, not open on Sundays (but that may have changed?), and sometimes they run out of ingredients (particularly with the bread for sandwiches) and you end up with something a little different. Other than that, it is a great place to get a quick bite to eat, nice people, and nice location. read more

This was a huge disappointment. They had no home fries, the soup had no flavor except dishwater, scrambled egg over cooked, greasy bacon. The workers had very bad attitudes and wouldn't substitue or give a discount for the breakfast missing home fries. Not even if I was starving. Bread was hardly toasted as well. read more

I went to Express Gourmet Monday on my lunch break and it was absolutely delicious. I had the tomato pesto and mozzarella panini. It was great, fresh mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, toasted perfectly. I went again today and it was awesome again. This time I had the Mediterranean sandwich. And again everything tasted fresh. I'm happy I found a new lunch spot. I have to say I am surprised about the comments from the other reviewers. I know they are under new management, they told me today. Maybe that's why. I am assuming this place is still in business due to the fact that they don't have much competition in the area in what they offer. I know that is why I have returned here more than I would have liked as I work within walking distance. Each time I eat there, I tell myself: the food could not be more bland, the time it takes them to prepare anything is astronomical, and the ingredients are not nearly fresh enough...but when nothing else is available, I seem to repeat the same mistake in giving it another try. Today though was most likely the last straw. I went in before the lunch rush, knowing if I didn't it can take up to a half hour to order anything. Not one other customer was inside the place. Figured a quick in and out. I stood there for 10 minutes before I was even acknowledged from any of the 4 staff at the counter and register (not to mention the 2 back in the kitchen). I didn't want to interrupt the sweet lady that was meticulously placing yogurt parfaits on a tray to go in to the display that not one other customer was there to buy! Eventually I was asked what I wanted. Even somewhat excited to order as I noticed on their fancy chalkboard, the "daily special". I asked the woman taking my order how long that special would take to make, and her response, " sorry, I don't have time to make that for you". Let's see. It's your daily special, but you can't order it that day because you don't have time to make it? I looked over my shoulder to see if the lunch rush came in as I remembered I was the only person in there for ten solid minutes. Maybe she was taken aback at the one other customer who had now come in to order something, thinking she needed a good hour to prepare two meals for two people, given they average about twenty minutes for each sandwich made. Then I got to thinking about the name of the place...Express Gourmet. For years I have been trying to understand how they had the audacity to include gourmet in their name, given their flavors they give to their food run between, cardboard and wicker (not the dyed darker wicker mind you, that would be a compliment to Express Gourmet's "seasoning". But what really got me today in the name was the "express" portion. Express? 10 minutes with no one else there to even acknowledge me? maybe they had a lot of catering or delivery orders, but I took time out of my day to walk to the store to give them money. A daily special...something you would assume would be prepped and ready to assemble quickly, given it is the daily special you are promoting...but you don't have time to make it (and the best part, the woman at the counter said it is the daily special all week, and she didn't have time to make any yesterday either so I shouldn't take it personally. Yet there it is on the huge sign on the front of the place, EXPRESS gourmet. Maybe those yogurt parfaits finally made it in to the display counter... a lovely breakfast of week old yogurt, three blueberries, one sliced strawberry and a thimble full of granola...in time for the DINNER crowd! read more

I don't even know what rating to put, because the food is good, however the last three times we have ordered there has either been an incorrect sandwich or missing a sandwich. As a local business we like to support another local business by ordering sandwiches every Friday. We have made it a point to now have the order read back to us over the phone to hopefully avoid any confusion. One week, we utilized the online order system because we felt it was easier and help avoid mishaps. When we went to go pick up the order a half hour later- there was no order- we were told the online order is for larger orders for the next day and that we have to call once we place the order as it is not checked. This time when a sandwich was missed due to their error, they could not deliver the sandwich, and then tried to tell us that we had to pay for the new one. Needless to say we will be finding another local sandwich shop for our "Breakfast Sandwich Fridays." read more

Not only did I have to wait 2 hours for my sandwich to be delivered (I'm only a half mile away), but the pastrami was so tough I could not even bite through it.
