I'm a HUGE fan of the Monte Vista Extra Fine, so obviously had to try the new Southtown location - and it doesn't disappoint! This location is larger than the other one I typically go to which is nice because there is plenty of indoor seating. I'm personally a fan of ordering from the seasonal drink menu for unique takes on classic lattes (this week I ordered the London Cloud - a cold brew with earl gray cold foam) which was light and refreshing. The pastries here are also yummy (the pesto knot is one of my faves)! And it's fun how you can also get a loaf of homemade bread to go. I recommend this spot for anyone in town for a casual lunch, a yummy coffee, and even a great atmosphere to hangout with friends. read more

I finally got to try Extra Fine in Southtown and I am so glad I did! Extra Fine is a neighborhood bakery and cafe with some amazing and delicious breakfast and lunch menus. Their first location is located in Monte Vista, but they just recently opened a second one in Southtown. This location has plenty of indoor seating and they tables are very large which is perfect for those that like to work and/or study from a coffee shop. Their food menu is small but might with some really good and healthy options. For my first time I decided to go with their Chicken Caesar Salad Sandwich. The sandwich was absolutely delicious! It was the perfect blend between a classic chicken sandwich and a caesar salad. It was absolutely delicious and nothing like I've ever had before at any other restaurant. The only downside about this location is that it seems they are struggling with their A/C because the place was pretty toasty, but in their defense I understand it is really hard to keep a place this large cool when is 105 outside. This Biz owner charges junk fee for all transactions, 3.5%! I take an issue with this since the owner claims it's for credit card fees, but disallows cash. Credit card companies also disallows passing these fees on to customers. Also 1$ fee for almond milk is pricey. Ambience could have been cool, but hvac was lacking in July. There's no parking in the front and the parking in the back of the building is sparse inside the fence. I love the vibe of the place. It gives off an organic Austin-type vibe. The service is kind and fast. They offer a variety of pastries, sandwiches, salads etc. if you go late you'll only have a few options as most will be sold out. We had a nice visit this past Saturday for the ice cream social! My husband just about devoured his sandwich. It was the new Chicken Caesar Salad Sandwich made with zucchini bread & butter pickles and finely shredded Parmesan. He actually can't wait to go back again for a repeat. I had a Caesar salad that they were kind enough to accommodate me with as it's not a menu item. Sorry it's not pictured. The girls stuck with ice cream. More artisanal flavors for my kids but we made do. The place is pretty spacious and the tables are set up family style. Stopped by for lunch today, as I was really craving the Monte Vista club sandwich. Much to my chagrin, the sandwich is no longer available, as are most of the other (hot) sandwiches previously on the menu. I settled for a cold Italian sandwich, which just did not hit - soggy bread, wilted lettuce. Super disappointed. I threw more than half away and just ate my chips and sipped on my iced latte. We decided to try out Extra Fine after spending the morning touring the Briscoe Western Art Museum. I loved that the menu was short but offered an excellent variety of items. I ordered the quiche (recommended by our cashier) and my boyfriend ordered the club. Both were incredibly delicious. That pastry crust on the quiche though... YUM! My only complaint is that there are no refills on the coffee. It was GREAT coffee and I just get a plain ole drip black coffee. It was a small cup - one refill would have been nice, especially considering that tiny cup was $3.50. But coffee disappointment aside, not worth knocking a star off the review. :) The interior is so cute with eye catching decor everywhere. I'm curious about the dinosaurs. Haha. I loved them! I stumbled upon Extra Fine in Southtown when I was on a bike ride and decided to stop and grab a coffee and pastry. They have a bike rack outside to lock your bike. This charming coffee shop serves exceptional coffee, crafted with love and care. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for remote work or catching up with friends. They have large tables with plenty of chairs and seating that faces presa street. Additionally, there are a few small tables outside where you can enjoy your items. I ordered a cappuccino with lavender syrup and a cinnamon roll. Both had great flavor profiles. One recommendation I have is adjusting the heat or time when warming up the pastry because some areas of the pastry were warm and others cold. Not a big deal. The barista that helped me had exceptional customer service, despite it being über busy that morning. I noticed several people walk out because the barista was taking orders and making coffee simultaneously, which resulted in a bottleneck. Will I Return? Of course. Overall it's a cool spot and I'd like to try some items on the breakfast/lunch menu. Peace. read more

I only had food here on this first visit. I'll come back some time for a coffee. I came here only because i went to Poetic Republic Coffee (my usual haunt a little further south on Presa) for coffee and one of their breakfast foods, but they were sold out of food and kindly suggested I come here. So I brought my coffee with and ordered a breakfast sandwich here. Its only been here about 6 months, but is a nice addition to Southtown, being as much a cafe as a coffee house. Service was friendly and prompt. They have a pretty wide selection of food for breakfast and lunch. The sandwich I had was pretty good. It was a bit too oily for me but it was tasty and satisfying. The place is pleasant but pretty spare and not very inviting inside, but they do have some small cafe tables out front in sun and shade. They have blocked off their parking in front but if you take the street on their north side you'll find ample parking in back. I'll be back sometime to try their coffee and leave a supplementary review. read more

Super disappointed. I've been to both locations multiple times but hadn't been in the last 2-3mo. Unfortunately such a big change! Many loved items off the menu and not replaced. Most items are now served cold. The amount of food for the price is also significantly different. Previously my daughter and I shared any of their sandwiches and now you will leave hungry if that's all you ordered. This applies to all the menu items except drinks and pasties. Quality and quantity have definitely suffered. Don't think the South location will make it when Panederia opens up down the street. read more

I kept going back thinking it would be remedied, sadly after my last visit - I lost hope. I wanted to like this place but fear of illness will keep me from returning.
