Found the place through social media and their matchas looked divine. Walk in and realized maybe out of my depth here as soon as I saw the people dressed in suits, and everyone's super fancy looking. Recommend: Maybe I really enjoyed checking out The Newstand. The location is great, though parking was a little tricky to figure out. Inside, the space is on the smaller side, but the high ceilings and huge windows make it feel open and spacious. After yet another episode of Elder Eats, we saw this establishment mentioned on the show and they featured an egg salad sandwich that made my mouth water! My mom used to make us egg salad sandwiches but she's passed 2003 and I haven't had one since. Mainly because places put so many different things in their egg salad and I'm kinda finicky on how I like mine. After seeing their version, I HAD to try it ASAP. We decided to make the trek downtown (actually on the edge of downtown) off Broadway that same day. There is a lot of construction in the area and not a lot of parking so beware, but if you are lucky to find a spot, run don't walk to the Newstand and definitely order their Egg Salad sandwich and have it with a side of their ENORMOUS cinnamon roll! The establishment is extremely small and seating is very limited, but it's also a great option to place an order and go have a picnic elsewhere. The food is amazing, the sandwiches are huge and overly stuffed and the EGG SALAD SANDWICH brought me back to my mom which was the icing on the top! I was throughly surprised at how much I liked this place. The prices are on the higher side but the quality is pretty solid. I got the french dip sandwich as well which had great flavor. I wish the bread held up a bit better because the bottom was very soggy. I also think it should be on a bigger plate. It's a very very messy meal. I also got the miso latte and the matcha. I wasn't impressed with the matcha but the miso was good even though it didn't have much miso flavor (so a little gimmicky). They also charge for special milk (latte is already 8-9 bucks) which is kind of insane pricing wise because they don't list the price on the menu for alterations. I finally go to try this place! It's street parking, so you have to get lucky or park a street or two over, which is no big deal. There is also a parking garage on the backside where the first 30 min are free. The building has the tallest ceilings and a ton of natural light. Josh at The New Stand made our visit absolutely perfect. From the moment we walked in, he greeted us with a friendly demeanor and outstanding customer service. He explained the menu perfectly and gave us some recommendations that turned out to be spot-on. I loved the avocado toast and my sister loved her pimento bacon egg sandwich, and our coffee orders were perfect as well. Everything was delicious, and you can tell there's real care put into both the food and the service. My first question was about the parking situation. We just parked In The garage across the street.But I hear they will validate your parking if you bring the ticket in.The front of the building is still under construction.So Look for the white banner among the construction to find the place. The newstand just catered at an event that I was at, and all the barista's were super nice, especially Josh and the manger. The had a space set up on the side. They had a variety of food options, bakery, options, and drinks. I tried two of the Matchas that they had one hot and one cold and both were very delicious and flavorful. One had a blackberry purée base and the other one was a strawberry rose with a vanilla cold foam. I also got a lox bagel, which was really yummy and the addition of sprouts with everything else was a really great touch, the Matcha cookie is so good, the cream has a very flavorful Matcha profile, and the look of the cookie is giving Sugar cookie, but make it Michelin, and the blueberry muffin is just huge and all the fruit is bursting with flavor. I'm not super big on coffee unless it's sweet so i'm always a little intimated going into coffee shops but the staff were all so nice and welcoming. The outside of the building has scaffolding. It almost doesn't look like a functional business! The scaffolding makes it seem like we were in New York. There is only street parking available. We parked a few blocks over next to an apartment complex. We got a latte with sticky bunz syrup and a latte with pink syrup. Each drink was around $9, which is pretty expensive relative to other San Antonio coffee spots. The server described the pink syrup as rose and pomegranate. It was delicious!
