I had an absolutely horrible experience with Extra Space Storage. I logged in to pay my bill and saw a charge that made no sense, so I called my storage location. Unfortunately, I got Sharon, who was extremely unprofessional and clearly has no idea how to speak to customers or handle even basic criticism. When I asked to speak to a manager, she said she didn't know when he'd be in. I asked for a callback, and she flat-out told me she didn't know if or when he would call then hung up on me while I was still talking. That alone is unacceptable. I called back, and she kept sending me straight to voicemail. When she finally answered, instead of trying to fix anything, she immediately told me to "call corporate" and repeated the number like she couldn't care less. Completely dismissive and unprofessional. So I went to the location in person to actually speak to someone competent. The moment I walked in, she told me to leave. I asked if she was the same person who hung up on me, and she doubled down and kept telling me to leave instead of taking any accountability. She refused to give me her name or the district manager's name, which is ridiculous. Then, to make things worse, she called the police on me and described me by my race multiple times, which was completely unnecessary and inappropriate. The whole situation was humiliating and escalated for no reason other than her inability to act professionally. Ironically, when I called her out for acting like a Karen, she tried to defend herself by saying her son-in-law is Blackwhich had absolutely nothing to do with anything and just made things even more bizarre. After all of this, I still haven't received a single call back from a district manager. The lack of accountability here is unbelievable read more

WOW! I wish I could leave 10 stars. As we all know, having to temporarily rent and use a storage unit is about as fun as going to the DMV, or filing your taxes at tax time! But then I found this place....and mostly the manager, Elaine!! My storage unit experience this time has been an awesome one, and that has mostly to do with Elaine. As someone who was in charge of customer satisfaction at a highly stressful job, I know the challenges of providing exceptional customer service , and still keep the office and admin flowing smoothly and efficiently. It's hard y'all! But Elaine does all of that and she does it with a smile and she has several times gone above and beyond to assist me with deliveries to my unit. As someone who works 13 hr shifts and is also in the middle of a building project, I just can't stress enough how much Elaine has taken away some of the stress off of my life during this busy time! And on top of that, the security and cleanliness of the facilities are top notch!! First of all Elaina Frye location mgr is awesome. If you only dealt with her, it would be perfect. Move in November. I paid a year in advance. Within a few months she was off and I went in, Timothy (I believe his name was) had us "urgently" move spaces because there was screw ends exposed and safety purposes we had to move out until they could resolve it. OMG WTH There was no work order or message to have it corrected. When we finally moved back to our original space. Elaina realized our account was totally messed up, she asked for the accountant to audit so hopefully to correct it. The contract date changed and price DOUBLED during space change. Well that was the beginning. This young man, screwed us so bad our price was doubled with no notice, renewal was moved up by a months. An there accountant could not figure it out or correct it. When they thought they corrected it, it wasn't. I went in August to pay for another year. Keeping in mind, November was my renewal. Surprise the amount was doubled and still October was listed. They had MONTHS resolve this. I packed up and moved out within days. Not worth it read more

Had to order a storage unit last minute for extra bins I couldn't fit in my car when moving so the process ended up being super easy and less stressful! I purchased & signed up for one of their smaller units that was almost the last one available on their website. I got a confirmation email with all the detailed information I needed and even sent me a gate code to automatically head to my unit without even stepping foot into the office which I liked given I was already in a stressed mood. I drove to my unit located on my map & the lock was already in there packaged and ready to use. The unit was clean and freshly sanitized. To have a smooth and efficient check in process without even needing to speak to anyone or physically sign paperwork I was so relieved to have a place to safely store my belongings and I highly recommend! read more

While the people that work there are nice enough and the facility is relatively clean and secure, the escalation in prices over the last couple of years has been extreme and unnecessary. This place is ridiculous. Starting with the rude woman who works the front desk who believes yelling at customers is an appropriate way of working with the public. This is one of the most expensive storage facilities in the desert and it's one of the worst up kept. Peeling paint every where broken locks and gates out of order more often than they are working. Please BEWARE! I rented a storage unit 3 months ago at Extra Storage in Cathedral City. My monthly rate increased by 30% not even 4 months into the lease. They fail to tell you that when they are almost at full capacity they can and will raise your rent to whatever they please. I understand a yearly increase, but I just spoke to the manager Elaina and she explained they raise the rent every 5 months and then every 9 months; this making it almost twice a year. They leave all this out when leasing their units so please make sure to ask about these rates. The customer service was great, I just wish they would have been more transparent about all this. A twice a year increase is way to much when increasing by 30%. read more

I have used Extra Storage several times, but this was my worst experience ever. Constant rate increases, doubling my initial rate. When I moved out, I was told to just leave with the lock off the unit. Someone placed a few junk items in there and I was called to remove them! There was a truck rental bill a box from the people that left them behind. Terrible customer service!! read more

Everytime I talk with someone who works there they are unbelivably unprofessional. Rude and anytime you ask a question that dont want to be bothered the only reason I have a unit is because its climate controkled and hard to find units that way. 1 star- HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE it review for 36000 Cathedral Canyon Dr Cathedral City, CA. EVERYTHING HORRIBLE from the beginning. They sent keys from lock to a different address, after my arrival i had my own locks. Manager REQUESTED TO PAY for lock and thretened NOT TO CUT a lock until is paid for it, i paid around 19 $ cash, she cut the lock, i moved in with stuff. After i came to pay for second month i was charged for lock again 19 $. THESE ARE JUST THIEVES. When my son who are rented this for moved out he left a few things. The woman behind the counter who called me was very polite very informative and helped me figure out what to do. She had a pretty good sense of humor and we laughed and joked and it took me maybe two minutes to sign the paper to release the contents and it was done. read more

Not only did our friend get $50 for the recommendation, the bottom line is... we LOVE this place, which is clean and safe, but our favorite thing is Cindy at the front desk, who is the best of the best!!! After a few minutes interacting with her, there's no doubt this lady knows her stuff. She won't steer you wrong and isn't that refreshing in this day and age? Signed up for automatic payments, so every month, not a worry about forgetting to pay.
