COPY / PASTE TO ALL REVIEW SITES Laurie Montanaro at the Edgewater NJ facility was absolutely HORRIBLE; I never any correspondence such, Leases, Rates, Monthly Statements or policies; everything is verbal as she does what she wants to do with your account! Also, a customer is suppose to receive monthly text messages; I have not received a text message in 90 days; not to mention they were not consecutive in the past months from March - September Not to mention, Joan called me with alarming information stating there is an Auction scheduled on December 5, 2024. When I called on approximately December 3rd, she said "Oh I made a mistake it's January 5, 2025" However, TODAY I made a call to another facility in New Jersey seeking the District Manager's contact information; because Laurie refused to give it to me saying "Do what you have to do" whereby Christian from North Bergen facility was kind enough to inform me the REAL DATE of Auction which is actually scheduled for January 3, 2025!! If I hadn't call North Bergen and spoke to Christian I would have been 2 days too late and lost my household ! Laurie & Joan does whatever they want to do; they notate the account according requirements to cover themselves and notate the call on what they said not the customer. Just minutes ago after my candid conversation with Laurie at 9:00am this morning stating I never received any copies of any LEASES to neither units NOR any type of instructions to download the app, my email address has been incorrect since March 2024; they simply charge your account with unknown fees they want they wish. This is UNLAWFUL, any customer holds the RIGHT to know the amount being charged; it's the Law! Both Laurie & Joan gave misinformation; but now Laurie is trying to cover her poor actions! Laurie is unethical; it's a wonder how they passed an audit last month. Laurie cannot say she EVER sent me any correspondence via EMAIL, because by her inputting my email address incorrectly, it's obvious the EMAIL was UNDELIVERED! Moreover, why did she STOP sending the TEXT notifications for the past 90 days if the EMAIL address has been incorrect since MARCH 2024! It's obvious she wants to get into my UNITS and obvious she wants to SELL my belongings for herself. Again, DO NOT RENT from this EDGEWATER location; they Business practice are unethical, keeping customers in the dark, prices gouging and unknown charges & notices. She would rather send mail to Florida than to send a Text or an Email? What's wrong with this picture? I have sent this matter to BBB - Better Business Bureau & NJ State Attorney General's Office because it's Extra Space Storage Responsibility to HIRE ethical staff! Prices are extremely high, but the facility is clean, convenient and never too crowded to access your storage unit.

I have had the pleasure of working with both Laurie and Joan over 4 years and they have always given 5 star support. The ladies are both friendly and courteous, willing to help with any inquires me or my husband may have. When I walk by the storage building during normal office hours the ladies wave and wish a good morning (or hello). Joan and Laurie have star quality customer service. You will see a review of Extra Space from the month we moved in, one year and 8 months ago. Here is an update: The space and facilities are fine and Joan at the front desk was very kind and helpful however, since my first review, I've learned that the business practice of the home company is horrible. I signed up for a 10x10 almost two years ago. We needed space quickly after selling a home. The initial rate was $207. Thee months later it was over $280. Several months later it was over $370. I was told that it was an "introductory" rate but there was nothing in my contract that said anything about a special introductory rate. I feel like Extra Space takes advantage of their customers once they have all their things in their facility. Laurie was helpful but could only reduce my rate $10 each time it was raised more than 25%. Letters to the company got no reply. Having a full house in a storage space is not easy to move and with additional family health issues we've had, we were forced to stay there and pay the rate until we were finally able to get out after almost two years. I don't understand how doing business like this is legal. We found another place with a much better rate that is guaranteed to not go up for two years. The price more than doubled after 3 months. Also the entire storage facility stinks like fresh cigarettes and makes everything in your storage smell like an ashtray. Luckily I didn't move much stuff in before the price raise because I called 2 other storage facilities in the area and they told me they have units the same size I rent and will have a locked in price that doesn't fluctuate randomly whenever the company feels like it. If you want your price to double randomly and have all your stuff stink like cigarette smoke then this is the place for you. I recommend going anywhere else cause this company is a bunch of crooks. They wait for you to move your stuff in and then hit you with a 200% price increase. Not worth the headache read more

Very easy transaction. Nice spot for storage as it's our first time. The place is kept clean although you can tell it's been there for a while and worn down a bit. It's very close to our apartment which is why we picked it. Still not sure if the insurance is actually worth it but I will try it out a couple months. The unit wasn't really even swept clean before we were given access which was annoying but as I said we have never done this before. If you need storage space, there are plenty in the area to choose from, but I'd stay away from Extra Space. They don't care about their customers' needs, at all. I timely paid almost $200 per month for a small storage unit for FOUR years (they increased the price every year), without so much as visiting the premises or making any requests of the business. I needed to close the unit recently (the virus has been hard on me financially), so I rented the cheapest car I could find, drove from out of state (where I live), and had family help me hire the only available company to take the items and donate them to a good cause (they take whatever can fit in their small truck). Unfortunately, they could not fit a twin sized mattress and small boxspring on their truck and no other company was willing to come and take it because of COVID-19. Extra Space had a dumpster on their premises with some large items around it, so given the circumstances, I placed the mattress there. An hour later, I received an angry call saying they were going to charge me hundreds of dollars to remove the mattress. Despite Extra Space charging me more and more money each year for the same unit, despite a pandemic shutting down the majority of businesses, despite my never bothering them and always paying on time, despite my arranging from out of state to remove everything except a mattress (which did not fit), they nickel and dimed me, which is an obvious indication of how they treat clients who are in good standing. read more

We were looking for the extra storage for the first time and contacted several places. Extra Space Storage customer service was very prompt and responsive and provided us with the best available prices. Once we came to the storage itself, we were greeted by Joan. What a wonderful experience!!! She is very professional, knowledgeable, and informative. She would go above and beyond to make sure that the customers are satisfied. Joan walked the entire place with us, showing different sizes storage in the different locations. No pressure to get more expensive size. The place is sparkling clean and well organized. Good location, clean building and decent prices at first. There are better prices in the surrounding area and they know this so be aware that they will increase the rate a few months into you being moved in. They offer deals that sound appealing just to get you in the door but the rate will fluctuate since it's month to month. Sneaky. read more

Horrible customer service, very inflexible don't asked for "the manager" Janet, cause she is the worst, no courtesy of any kind. The $85 fee they charge when you not even owe two months is a rip off . they do that ''to prepare your things for auction" right after you passed on you second month even if you pay the old month plus the new one still they will charge you $85 plus $40 in other fees..it's is overwhelming..in my case i annouced days before that i was leaving the unit right after i paid the month i own, techincally speaking i did not owe a second months..regardless they still charged me the $85 plus many others fees. Normally i paid $ 160 for a unit, for only one month late from (nov 29 to dec 29 I owe/paid $325. read more

I do not have a problem recommending this storage facility for short term use. The facilities are clean and well run and accessible at most hours. The problem with this storage facility is the same as with all the storage companies in the nearby area -- if you want to use it for longer term storage. There is an initial "come-on" price to get you to take the deal and once you're in the rent raises are unbelievable. In a recession economy over the past 3 years our rate went up 30%. ($75) It would have gone higher except that I complained and the reset the rate to a lower price. What's more if you ask in advance what the policy is -- they will tell you they don't know what the rates will be, or when they will raise them. I made 5 calls -- each higher up in the management chain -- all the way to the executive offices and no one could (or would) tell me anything. If this was a apartment, I believe this practice would be illegal. Secondly, when I asked someone about how they set their prices they said "we call around and see what everybody else is charging an that's what we charge." Not so long ago this might have been called price fixing. Storage companies also know that once you have your goods stored you just don't want to move them again -- so they have you cold. I don't even know what to recommend since everyone in the area is doing the same thing -- don't tell the customer how long the price is good for, raise it whatever you want and whenever you want. Unless some people start complaining and finding other sources of storage -- this will continue and get worse. There is no longer any consumer protection and while the company that owns Extra Space is making out like a bandit the consumer is getting a very raw deal when it comes to pricing. . read more
