I booked Kerb for my cross-country move from CA to MA based on the favorable quote I received. This initial quote, however, turned out to be a bait as they ended up charging me extra $2,000. I was told that the movers would arrive between 9am and 11am. Instead, I was given several updates from the foreman, who repeatedly gave me revised arrival times that were simply not true. At one point, he blamed traffic on a specific highway -- yet a quick check of live traffic data showed that route was completely clear. The crew finally showed up at nearly 3pm -- four hours late -- completely blowing through the reservation window I had secured with my building for elevator and loading dock access. I attempted multiple times to reach customer support at the number advertised on their website. Not once did I get through. Their customer service line put me on hold and played music for a few minutes and disconnected. To add insult to injury, after the packing was done, I was handed an additional charge of over $2,000 on top of the original quote -- this, after hours of delay and disorganization entirely on their end. The job should have wrapped by 3pm. We didn't finish until well after 6pm, creating further complications for my move-out schedule. If that weren't enough, the vehicle transport I paid for was delayed by at least four days due to truck repairs -- information I only received after paying. In October 2023, we hired Kerb to move most of our furniture and other items from the D.C. Region to Northern California. On the basis of that experience, we are giving Kerb a 1-star rating. On the day of the move, Kerb's D.C. Area crew damaged one pathway light and one copper post cap on our property. While in transit, more than 20 pieces of furniture were damaged, including an expensive, hand-constructed dining table. The cost to repair and refinish the dining table and one leaf will be $1,100. Three lamps and four lampshades, all of which Kerb's D.C. Area crew had packed, were damaged beyond repair. When we promptly submitted a detailed summary of the damage, the response from Kerb's Customer Care Department was not just inadequate, but unapologetically silent on its movers' lack of care in handling our belongings during transit. Additionally, none of the insurance options that Kerb had offered would have made us whole upon taking into account the cost of the insurance and the corresponding deductibles. Because Kerb failed to deliver our furniture intact, and because Kerb's D.C. Area crew did not instill any confidence whatsoever, we do not recommend this mover to anyone else who is planning a cross-country move. The good: getting a quote was easy and the lady on the phone and the head person of my moving team were nice. The less good: One of the three movers did not wear his mask over his nose for the entirety of the move-out stage. Once we got to the new place he didn't wear a mask at all. Even more alarming, I heard him coughing a little bit after we were at the new apartment. I wound up spending 9 hours straight with an N95 strapped to my face and spending as much time outside in the cold in the yard/balcony as humanly possible. I don't think this place takes the pandemic seriously. The same guy didn't speak much English and mostly didn't put boxes in the rooms they were labeled for, or where I asked him to. I wound up hauling almost all the boxes myself at one point or another. Estimate was 3-5 hours. It took about 9 start to finish. No one put the bottom shelf back in the bookcase (which is necessary for it to be at all stable). I had to find the shelf (elsewhere in the house) and do that. Generally their approach was not terribly efficient. They didn't place any of the rugs until last, which meant re-moving all the furniture out of the way and then putting it back. That seems like a no-brainer to me. Lots of missing hardware, e.g. bookcase wall brackets and screws. Weight rack is missing a bolt now, which I'll have to replace. My chandelier was damaged and they either didn't notice or didn't say anything. Most concerning of all, my bed frame was assembled upside down--the platform was only supported barely on the edges and the leg in the middle was not in contact with the ground. At most, these items were 1/25th of our haul but they refused to leave until we paid a beyond ridiculous 20% surcharge! Both crews were nice and very efficient. My only complaint is the second crew could have been a little more careful wrapping and packing some of our furniture. I hired Kerb movers for a "labor only" move that required moving furniture from a POD to my apartment about 20 feet away. It was a ground level move. The movers did a good job and finished moving all furniture in about an hour and half. They were quick and efficient. The furniture was not damaged during the move. They helped me put the furniture together thereafter for remaining time. The only knock against them is that they didn't carry good set of tools and only had one set. July 22 2019 moving day: The movers did not call before hand but showed up close to their stated arrival time. Four of the five were completely professional and courteous but the one who was in charge was rude, obnoxious and making inappropriate remarks to the rest of the crew. I also overheard him bad mouthing how my husband and I boxed up some of our items. I came out and asked if there was a problem and he tried to minimize his comments. His crew were visibly mortified and appeared embarrassed by him. I tipped them a lot of cash each especially since they were in charge of all of my belongings. They pulled away and we noticed that two items they started to bring outside were left in the back (also our fault for not double checking.) It turns out $4700 was charged to my credit card 7days after I received my belongings to a Millworks Lumbar yard in Indiana. Sept 23: My husband's box of clothes was found 5 weeks later at a Kerb warehouse in Indiana. John called with the tracking number and it was mailed to us. *****It just happens to be from the same exact town where $4700 was charged to my credit card!***** What is even worse is that I just checked my credit card statement and I was charged $50 by KERB to have our box of clothes mailed to us even though KERB LOST it. Luckily my credit card company did not expect me to pay for the $4700 charge to my credit card. I am beyond frustrated with myself for choosing this company. The reviews are stellar so I have no idea why this happened seemingly to only us. UPDATE: Kerb has a great quality assurance team, John and Nikki worked together to reimburse us for the Fed ex package that was returned to us. They also gave us an additional inconvenience credit. Which was very kind. In the end, we have all of our belongings, the quality team really went above and beyond to track down our package. We enjoyed working with John throughout the whole experience. He's very polite, confident and great at communicating. We appreciate the team getting control of issues that were out of their control. One of my good friends finished her program at University of the Pacific in Oakland, and she needed to find a reliable moving company to move back to LA. Since I was there for her graduation, I stuck around to help with the move. I recommended Kerb to her, and the whole moving process was a DREAM. I moved coast to coast. Main concern with finding a moving company was not to get into the horror story with overcharging movers that keep your stuff hostage. And KERB was definitely none of that. They ask you for exact estimate of things and number of boxes which is kinda hard to figure out, so that kept me a bit nervous, but in the end I got the ballpark right and that's all that mattered, there was no haggling. I'm glad I got connected with Kerb, because they made our last move a cakewalk. They priced things fairly, called before arriving and showed up on time. Our two movers moved an eighteenth floor, two-bed, one-bath apartment two miles away in just under 5 hours. Nothing was broken - I watched that the truck was loaded correctly, using the cross-wall straps to ensure things didn't fall over (our new location involved unloading on a hill). I raised the point and the driver agreed that unloading the truck while facing downhill made the most sense. read more
