I decided to try this location due their reasonable prices, but have stayed with them because of their great service. From day one, the staff was great and I've never had a bad interaction with any of them since. They keep the place nice and clean. To be honest the location threw me off a bit (train tracks are next to it and it can feel a little hidden) but I got a unit in one of their newest buildings and for those, you need a door code to go in , so at no point have I ever felt in danger. Also, the fact that there's a target right across the street, means that there is always cars and people coming and going, so it makes me feel a little safer, even when I've had to go in the later hours of the evening. I have other storage facilities closer to home, but their facilities and great staff make it worth the drive. read more

I had sign up an contract with these people right around covid began. It turns out they are infested with rats. Some of my personal belongings were ruined with rat piss. They finally transferred me to their new location off or Haskell about 4 months ago and today I find out they raised my monthly payment to double the amount, double! I was here at my storage a few hours ago, it was about 9pm when I pulled up the gate - I noticed two guys sitting on the curb I passed them and went towards the gate I waited about 2 minutes to punch in my code . I didn't see them behind me so I thought everything was good but after I pulled in and drove a few feet I noticed in the rear view mirror that they came around the building to walk in the gate. I stopped but they kept walking so I put it in reverse that's when they slowed. So I started driving in reverse towards them slowly and they stopped. I did this until the gate closed completely behind me to make sure they didn't come in. I went all the way towards the back of the storage where my unit is located. I was looking for an after hours number on their card but there was none. So I pulled up their website looking for some type of number and again nothing. Then when I looked up the same two guys were walking right by me towards the back parking lot . I'm guessing they must have just jumped the fence or something cause I didn't see or hear the gate open back up after I drove away. This was kind of scary being a female alone in this storage facility with these two random dudes who obviously have no business being there. I quickly gathered my things and left. They pretty much disappeared in the darkness of the back lot. I still don't know if such number exists to contact someone there if you need help after hours, but I know that if it does it should be more readily available and visible for these type of situations. read more

Of course, they start you off with a good, competitive price but quickly begin to raise the cost. I like that the gates have a code pad so that there is more flexible hours to access your belongings, but you have to buy one their locks because no other one is compatible. Then, To top it off, the storages aren't fully enclosed which exposes your belongings to weather, dust & debris. We had our stuff there 2 years before we couldn't handle the prices anymore. (We wanted to leave after 1 year, but adding members to our family delayed our ability to make it happen). Some dust is understandable, but the trains passing by make it ridiculous. Don't get ripped off & frustrated cleaning your stuff every time you need something from it. read more

I had tons of questions which she patiently answered. She also offered suggestions to help us get the most effective use of the storage space. No attempt to sell me anything - what a nice surprise. It was customer service like it used to be 30 years ago. Wonderful. The latch needed to be replaced on one of our units. So, just as promised, Brandon was available on time and replaced it quickly. He took the time to make certain I could move it easily. He had a great attitude with a gentleman's manners. So refreshing in our world today! Only 4 stars because units do get some dirt blown in from the train traffic that goes by. I have a Question Emily S. since you are the business owner. Why do you increase rent 3 times within a year? I started at $122 for a 5x10 then went up to $157 after 3 months then now 6 months $182 and soon 1yr and 1 month rent will be $237 as your notice i recieved via mail. I mean the price is higher than your posted normal price. It kinda leaves us customers in a tight spot since we already have stored and some of us even paid movers only to be taken forgranted by our situation. On your add it does say lockin the price but there are no further explaination as to how that works but only leaves us customers to assume that we got the deal and its locked it at a certain price, your people dont mention it or even discuss how lock in price works. And the your add is attached to a month to month contract or can be seen in one webpage. I dont believe you are being transparent with your business, i can understand rent increase but when your facility had no changes or nothing was done or upgrades.. why make us customers pay more, you seem to take advantage that there is no laws that limit you storage business to raise rent anytime. If you are true of being sincere with your customers then please explain to me why one of your people answered when asked that if its normal for the businesd to sign contracts for the customer, someone signed my contract with you for me and emailed me a copy. This company is the worst, I rented a space from them, I initially got quoted a price on line ( a hook) then when I actually went to the unit on Raymer st . They bullied me into paying insurance, which I didn't need or want. Then they said, ok you can take it off after one month, which I did. So then they found another way to rip me off!!!! They increased my rent by 15%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Outrageous!!!!!! I complained to no avail neither the manager or corporate did anything!!!!! Now I am stuck having to over pay until I can move out!!!! I was already a customer here, storing my 25 ft boat since 2011, before Extra Space bought out this facility from the previous owners. Following Extra Space taking over, everything seemed OK at first, but following a weekend on my boat, I returned to find both boat covers missing, along with 20 tie down straps I used to cover my boat with. I reported this to the attendant in the office that day, and requested a review of the surveillance tapes. He assured me such would happen and I would be contacted. In the meantime, I went and spent $140.00 to replace the covers and tie down straps. I informed the clerk that I always rolled up the covers and would attach them to the chain link fence in my unit, as I have customarily done over the past 5 years, never with any theft. A week had gone by and no one contacted me. My repeated calls to the office went unanswered, and the incident faded away, until again, following a weekend out on my boat, I returned to find both covers and tie downs missing again! This time, I was more persistent and after several calls, I was told that the manager there, Christine, deliberately removed my property from my assigned space and thew the items away! To make matters worse, I learned that she actually kept the newer cover and tie downs, which were replaced just two month previously after the first incident! When I questioned her about this, she claimed she believed the covers were trash and she was doing me a service, but had no explanation for the keeping of the newer items I had just replaced and she admittedly stashed in the onsite corporate unit. This was blatant theft- and reluctantly, a week later, I had to go pick these items up, without any apology, or remorse. Prior to Extra Space taking over, my monthly rent was $125.00 per month. In just the last 36 months, This rent has exploded to astronomical rates all the way up to $245.00 a month, - so my decision to vacate the space was due to the theft by management and unreasonable, escalating rent increases, both of which are the standard practice at Extra Space Storage in Van Nuys! If you like having constant rate increases and having your items stolen by management, Then extra Space Storage is the place to serve your needs....And theirs! read more

Excellent service!!!! I found them online so I went to check them out. The entire staff was amazing! The entire staff made my move easy. Kevin took me on my first showing because I couldn't decide on what size storage unit that I needed, they took me around in these cute golf carts to view two choice sizes that I was interested in. I just wanted to "see first" and they had absolutely no problem with that. I reserved a unit online before I got there... and came back the next day to pay for it. On this day, I met Tina the Store Manager-she is absolutely pleasant. I also met Frank, the boss. They were all professional and courteous. Oh-and btw- they honered my half off first months rent without a fret. They make a good team and I would totally refer them. Needless to say, I can now comfortably drive up to my unit.
