Lucy, the manager of this tow yard, likes to tell houseless people to go to the sheriffs office when she gets tired of walking over and unlocking a car door to an unregistered vehicle that was towed to this yard to get the very cheap life necessities they need to try to keep living (now without even something that they can lock at night and sleep inside). When you take people to the sheriffs and they explain that it is up to Lucy's decision, right now, legally, what happens to everything in unregistered vehicles towed by that company until they can officially own the car in 30 days and sell it for scrap metal. Then, when you go back to the tow yard, she shuts the front gate during business hours so you can't even enter the business anymore. Lucy makes you call the answering service on the sign then waits twenty minutes to call you back and explain very nastily to you why she can do "whatever she wants" with that unregistered vehicle because her "corporation" has it now. Then when you inform her she is not on speaker phones to say those nasty things to people who are very tired from sleeping places they can't lock up at night, she will hang up on you once she realizes she can't abuse vulnerable people on the phone that day. Thanks Lucy! If you're a local business who thinks tow companies are a necessary evil to keep the peace in Santa Cruz but would prefer to not work with the worst companies in town.... I got my car towed from the freeway after getting a flat tire and leaving my car there overnight. I contacted the SJPD and CHP to find the whereabouts of my vehicle. CHP told me that Extreme Towing had my car and gave me the wrong address. So thumbs up to the CHP. CHP provided me with their number and I gave them a call. The woman told me that they had my vehicle and that I had to show proof of ownership or liability via insurance or ownership. So I came with my insurance. The woman told me the price and it was over $500 and that it was $55 per day to be in storage. Awesome. The price for their " service " was $180 for towing my car off the freeway. $200 release fee and $55 per night that it was there and some other stuff. This place runs their business legitimately and yeah it was my fault for leaving my car their overnight but this is why I give them only 1 star. Well, for 2 reasons. So the next day I had an exam around the time that they were closing so I finished up real quick and got out of class and called in and told them that I was on my way to pick up my car. So after driving from my campus all the way to their warehouse, I ended up 2 mins passed closing. I came running to their door huffing and gasping for air and they asked me " Can I help you with something ? " I told them that I was here to pick up my car and pay the fee they told me " We're closed. Come back tomorrow. " And another worker joined our convo and said " we can release it to you now but we're going to charge you $80 release fee so you should just come pick it up tomorrow but we're till going to charge you $55 for overnight. " That made me furious. Of course they wouldn't give a crap if I came running to their door sweating and breathing heavily. Why would they ? So I wanted to save $25 so I came back the next day and heres when they really pissed me off. I came and paid my fees and the workers in the building were rude as hell. Talked hella loud to me as if I didn't know English, spoke to their co-workers and on the phone while talking to me which confused the hell out of me and raised their voice when I didn't answer their questions. HOW the HELL am I supposed to know who you're talking to lady !? So after paying my fees they told me " you have a flat. " I said that i knew and that I just wanted to get my car out. " I was planning on changing the tires outside after getting it released. So after giving them ALL of my MONEY. I looked in their warehouse to see some guys changing my tires. I asked a worker " Oh, so you guys are doing it for me ? " and I could not believe this. The worker says " Oh yeah, but we're going to charge you $35 for it. " WHAT THE EFF !? You go on and change my tire without telling me and try and squeeze out $35 from me !? I HAVE NO MORE MONEY ! I told him that I had no money and he told his guys to stop changing it and they dragged it outside. Thanks for being Human. If any of you people get towed, pray to god or what ever you believe in, that it is not these guys. I thought they were legit but actually being in the same room as them and seeing how they work. i got a flat tire this morning as soon as i got to work. being a girly-girl, i didn't even bother trying to change it myself (i know, i know). good thing, b/c when i called extreme towing to come change it for me, the guy told me that one of my key parts was missing. basically, i wouldn't have been able to change it myself. the problem was that he couldn't change it either. extreme towing got there pretty fast (within half an hour or so), and the service guy was friendly enough. it was pretty expensive ($85 to change the tire; $100 to tow it to a dealership) but honestly i'm willing to pay for convenience. i needed help, gosh darnit! one obnoxious thing about this company is that they charge $5 if you want to pay with a credit card. um... hello? what? i just wish they coulda fixed my car. instead they towed it off to a VW place. read more

The very next morning we called the police found the car smashed up but still running and Extreme charged my son 300.00 to get it out of impound. He asked if they could work with him on the payment even though he should not be responsible to pay it, they said, "it goes up $100.00 a day". I am with Jimmy T, I never thought my first review on Yelp would be a negative one. I use Yelp on a regular basis and always tell myself I am going to go on and put good/great comments, but never take the time. In the case of Extreme Towing I think I need to take the time. Our VW was stranded at the Great Mall and VW roadside assistance assigned Extreme Towing to pick it up at the Great Mall and tow it to Captiol Volkswagen. VW/Extreme Towing gave us an ETA of 12:15, as we were coming from Morgan Hill I contacted Extreme Towing directly to ask if we could move the ETA to 12:30, I was told this would be fine. On our way to the Great Mall we were called by both VW and Extreme Towing to state they were on there way to the Great Mall. We explained to Extreme Towing that we were about 15 minutes away but would arrive before the agreed upon time of 12:30. We eventually showed up at 12:20 (5 minutes past their original ETA of 12:15) to find out that they refused to wait and left us stranded there. When I called the office to question why the office had agreed to 12:30, but the driver wouldn't wait, not even 5 minutes past their original ETA I was hung up on, not once not even twice, but three times. While I understand the dispatchers have no control over the drivers the way to handle is to calm the customer not further upset the customer by hanging up on them. I have contacted VW roadside assistance and suggested that they remove Extreme Towing from their vendor list, and I am not done complaining about this company. I called extreme towing, the lady told me they would be there in 15 minutes. I waited 25 minutes and I had to call them again. Eric came out with a flatbed, in the process to pull my car on to his truck, the pull straps snapped the bottom of my bumper. He tells me this was the only way to load the car. I asked to speak to the manager. I explained to him the damage, he was rude, and said for me to file a damage report. After several weeks, they declined the damages... Absolutely the worst towing company imaginable. They wouldn't allow my nephew to pick up his towed vehicle for 3-4 hours because "they were in a meeting" which caused him to be late to work by 2 hours or so. Then they wouldn't release the vehicle to him because they stated that I had to sign for the credit card charge. I know better. A huge amount of business is conducted daily by "over the phone" credit card transactions. I do it all the time for the company I work for and I told them so. All you need is the 3 digit code and the customers zip code to do it. This caused another delay in the process and required me to shut down my business to go down and sign for the charges. They pulled a stunt when I was picking up the car that prevented me from viewing the vehicle before picking it up. They said that we couldn't go up the driveway because a truck was going to back up and we had to clear out. The truck didn't back out for quite a while. They hurried us to accept the car and get out of the way quickly for this. They intentionally damaged my nephews' truck as recourse for my differing with them about being able to run my card over the phone. I have worked as a service writer in the auto industry and as an assessor of damage to vehicles for years. I could tell exactly how and when they did the damage. My car got totaled in a parking lot and I was really upset. The tow truck driver came and was VERY rude, telling me that I should take one last look at my vehicle because it was the last time I was going to see it. The whole time I was crying, but he seemed to love rubbing it in. I told him that when he dropped it off at the repair shop, he was to ask for a specific person, but he refused to do so, saying he would leave it with whoever was there. So, five hours later I hadn't heard from the repair shop that they had my vehicle and I was convinced that the tow truck guy had stole it, or what was left of it. Turns out he had dropped it off in a side gate to the repair shop that no one used, so it took them 20 mintues to find it after I called to see if they had received it. This guy was so horrible for making such a stressful situation that much more stressful. I called my insurance compant who recommended them to me and told them about what had happened. They told me that are deleting them from their referral database. I would NEVER use this company and I wanted to warn everyone that you are in for it if you choose them. read more

Worst customer service ever and very dishonest, my towing was set up through my insurance company. My insurance company covered my towing fees. I received a call from a women directly from towing company saying to have payment of 25 ready and if they should continue with the towing, I told her it was covered she just cut me off ,"do you want us to continue or not." By this time I was irritated of waiting did not want to wait any longer I said fine only to Waite another hour to receive a automated message saying my car was delivered when it wasn't, called them back by this time it was a man he was polite but none the less advised me they have no records of my car being processed for pick up. Got in a motorcycle accident and CHP called Extreme Towing to handle the bike. I was conscious and fully aware of what was going on but when extreme towing showed up, the man did not even try to talk to me about cost or anything. I got my bike the next day only to spend $280 for one night. This company took advantage of me and the situation to make a profit. On another note, the first time I called the towing company the lady on the phone was extremely rude and didn't care about my situation. All she cared about how I was going to pay and made sure I wasn't going to argue the price by threatening to not release my bike "unless I'm ready to do business". For the future, get AAA and don't let people take advantage of you because they will once they see you're vulnerable. We couldn't recommend Extreme Towing more. When my car broke down on Hwy 1 near Pescadero, the Towing Company called by the Sherrif's Department couldn't figure out what the problem was and ended up towing my car back to Toyota of Santa Cruz. My husband met me there to see if he could get the car going. Lucky for us one of Extreme Towing's drivers had just dropped off another car there. Before we even asked him, he came over to our car to offer his help. Within a few minutes he got the car started. Beside needing the battery jumped, we found that the car needed gasoline. My husband took off immediately for the closest gas station and told me to follow him. Somehow we got our signals crossed and I ended up going to a different gas station. The Extreme Towing driving saw this happening and bailed us out again. He went to the gas station where my husband was, Got my phone number from my husband and called me to let me know which gas station my husband was at. So last year I sell a car & file DMV release of liability. A month later the new owner gets car towed and cannot afford to get it back from tow company. Tow company sells car at lien sale in November 2009. Today, I receive collection notice on behalf of tow company for towing and storage in the amount of $2343.47! First, doesn't a lien sale eliminate a debt? I thought that was the point of a lien sale. Second, although I had already filed DMV paperwork, neither the tow company nor the collection agency is responsible to find this out on their own; I'M RESPONSIBLE. Do Not Use these people!!!!!!! I had the worst experience of my life dealing with them. I called 3 times and they told me they did not have my car. Finally I called and told them I know that they had my car and had it for over 4 hours. Once they finally told me that they did indeed have my car, it was now an extra charge because it was past hours. Once I get there in the back woods with no lights, an very rude man was there to assist me. He was of no assistance. Not only very dumb, but rude and ignorant. He then lost my only Visa card, which is all they will take, and argued with me that I never gave it to him. So now I have no way to get my car because he has my credit card. Next, my favorite part, he tells me I need to provide the registration to prove it is my car. Wel....like all people, I keep that in my car, not on me. These people were the nicest! I had my car windshield smashed with a brick in San Jose and I was really upset. I called my insurance (allstate) they put me through to Extreme Towing. The girl I talked two (Lucy) Was nothing but helpful, and very sweet. She helped me figure out what was best to do, we decided to have the car towed to their shop and have the glass people replace it there. They told me that they would be there soon and I waited for the police to arrive too. When the driver got there (promptly, within 30 minutes), he was very nice and super efficient. He got the my Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 on the truck in minuets and was off to the shop. I stayed behind to deal with some issues there. I spoke with another girl named Bianca, who was also super helpful and nice! I expected the auto glass to take 2 hours to arrive (as they had estimated that) and then a couple hours to place the glass and let it set. The last time I had a windshield replaced it took 6 hours before I could drive. This time they called me back within two hours (the time originally allotted just for the glass people to arrive) and said it was ready (amazing!!!!). I drove over and found the place within 15 minutes and went into the office. The staff was super nice and helpful there too (I think it was the same two girls) and they already knew my name and immediately got the paperwork done. They finished cleaning the car for me (they cleared out all the broken glass and cleaned the new windscreen) and I was out of there within 10 minutes! Simply put, the most amazing and helpful towing experience I have ever had. I have had numerous tows with surly and gruff people that aren't very nice or helpful. This was the exact opposite!
