Very pricey and would not let vehicle go even with proof of ownership which led to more storage fees

I called around 20 companies and they all said no beciase the road was so tricky. I almost gave up, but they agreed to move the house. They did an amazing job! They drove through tons of sharp turns on a super narrow road. Sometimes it was only 2 inches on both sides to drive through. Watching these guys working was like watching a TV show - they were doing impossible things possible without a single scratch. Thank you do much for your professionalism! I want to say a special thanks to a customer service representative Melissa who managed our transportation. She always was available for us and return calls immediately. This company is fantastic! I strongly recommend them if you need help. You will pay for a smooth and professional service.

They are rude and insulting on the phone because they know they have you by the short hairs. If you are in an accident, DO NOT let the police call you a tow because they will call this grifter company. Call AAA or anyone else if you can. Also, this operation is owned by the same people who own "lifesaver tow" in S.Cruz so do not use them either. They have a contract with the local police who should be ashamed of themselves for elevating these thieves into a position of power over people who are already dealing with a bad situation.

Damaged the car! Our…read morecar was towed because, despite the registration being paid, we haven't received the tags, all of which can be verified by the DMV website. So, a $265 ticket to be disputed. Thanks Meter Maid Jessica Goode! Enter Autocare "Lifesaver" Towing, with it's lucrative and exclusive partnership with the Santa Cruz Police Department. Our gripe with "Lifesaver" is this: They're beyond rude on the phone. They have rules in place that make it extremely difficult to release your car: "Lifesaver" can't release the car to anyone but the registered owner (their own rule; this is not the law). In our case the registered owner is out of town. So "Lifesaver" here says, rudely, we will send you an Absentee Authorization that the registered owner must get notarized. Oh, and it's $150/night for every day you don't pick it up. Oh, and YOU MUST MAIL THE NOTARIZED FORM VIA SNAIL MAIL BEFORE WE WILL ALLOW A DIFFERENT PERSON TO PICK UP THE CAR. Oh, and we will wait until the end of the day to send you the form to be notarized so that's another $150 for us. Also, $150/night for the days it takes for the mail to get to us and for us to bother opening it. "Lifesaver" doesn't have a fax machine. "Lifesaver" doesn't use e-signatures. One can only conclude that "Lifesaver" finds snail mail to be far more lucrative. Thanks "Lifesaver." You're super duper! "Lifesaver" will hold on to your car with every little trick in the book, and on Day 3, they begin preparing Lien paperwork, which will add another $250, just in case you don't pick up the car and pay their usury within 30 days. Here, they depart from their normally slo-mo, old-timey snail mail ways, and get right to it. Incidentally, the owner, operating in Watsonville and Santa Cruz, California, is Kelvin Ramer. He serves as the President of KJRB Inc., the parent company of Auto Care Lifesaver Towing . His wife, Janette Ramer, is the Chief Financial Officer of the company. If they're rich, and I suspect they are, they've gotten there by grifting every dime they can out of honest hardworking people. I'm putting this here because when I asked the person I spoke to at "Lifesaver," who owned the company, his response was, "He doesn't like us to give out that information." Yeah, I'll bet he doesn't. Additionally, Kelvin Ramer is known in the monster truck community as a driver and sponsor. Auto Care Towing sponsors the Living the Dream Race Team trucks . We will be filing a consumer complaint with the Santa Cruz District Attorney as anyone else reading this who's had similar issues should. This is, as I said, a shameful business run by grifters. If the DMV is slow renewing your registration, CSO Jessica Goode of Santa Cruz as well as Mr. and Mrs. Ramer figure you might as well be a criminal. Thanks guys. Keep Making America Great!

Nevertheless, I continued with the call against my better judgement. when they told me estimated time was 2.5 hours and I proceeded to ask if there was any way to get a better idea(like maybe calling the tow company and just asking?) they just continued to regurgitate the same scripted information... waste of time... so I thought screw it. I looked online and the closest tow company was Dogherras. It was after office hours for them but I tried my luck anyways. A gentleman answered the phone, quoted me the cost of recovery and told me he could be there in about 30 mins. PERFECT, LETS ROLL! He actually showed up in about 15 mins, was very friendly, loaded up my bike and we headed on down the road. I would highly recommend Dogherras towing to anybody in the Santa Cruz area that needs a recovery. Friendly, professional, and reasonably priced.

Our car got stolen; We're a poor family. These are the two main points of this story…read more Our car was stolen and subsequently recovered by the police who (unfortunately) chose Dogherras' to tow it to their yard. Dogherras' called us and left a message, which we got and returned the following morning. In the phone call, they explained that since we did not get back to them the same day, they were charging us $440 for the towing and the stay at their yard! $440 is a lot of money for a simple tow and one night in a yard. We did not have the money to pay this, and explained that. We asked if there were any ways to mitigate the payment or to spread it out, and were told no. We were told to "take responsibility for our car", as if we had some responsibility in it getting stolen. He claimed he was "a businessman", and needed to make a living (if his business is so bad that $440 will make or break his finances, then that is not my problem). He then said there was nothing he could do for us, but that he would happily sell it for scrap if we took too long. Also, the payments increase every day that our car remains there until he does! So, we, like others, have fallen into the trap made only to take advantage of and extort money from poor people in a bind. We were forced to pay the charge (and not pay the family bills). I have no idea how towing the car from Portola to 17th, then storing it for one night equals $440. Even in their pricing list in the shop showed it would not have been that much. Still, they were unwavering, so we paid and left. So after dealing with having our car stolen once, it's been stolen twice. The first by some loser vagrant who wanted a joy ride, the second by a heartless "businessman" who needs money so badly he's willing to hold our family car hostage in his barbed-wire security lot until we find a way to come up with the money. STEER CLEAR OF THIS BUSINESS! I am not the first reviewer to make claims like this, and I doubt I will be the last. It's a real shame that our police do business with these people.
