I've been living in the valley close to 5 years now and finally tried this place. This is the hole in the wall type of restaurant but it's very good!!! I love that they have tater tots( my fave since elementary). The staff is super friendly, they acknowledge you when you come in and thank you when you leave. Hot dogs seem to be another east coast normality and a west coast oddity. We took a ride to Fab hot dogs today and were pleasantly surprised at the selection of hot dogs they serve. The closest to what i am used too is the "ripper" a New Jersey dog which is cooked on the flat top then thrown in the fryer till it rips apart. All in all its a good place to get a decent dog. Along with the ripper which i had works style back east (Mustard, Relish, Diced Onion, and Sauerkraut.) I also had the Polish Fire cracker or as we call it back east a Red Hot. Again, it was good snappy outside bursting with heat and flavor inside. We ordered tater tots as well very crisply and non greasy! I give this place a solid 3 stars always busy but the line Moves fairly quickly and hey don't forget to have a yoo hoo chocolate drinks with those dogs! read more

I called, the owner was funny - he was authentic seemed east coast ( like his hot dogs! ) However... He told me his chili was better than Cupid's and I mean sure that can be biased, but I felt he was being honest - I got the cheesey coney and the ripper since it's 'infamous' here. No. No. No. No. The chili was digusting, in fact I had to give it to my friend to eat - now stepping outside of my tastebuds and self I can see it's a very basic, common chili, I'm just picky, the meat almost tasted 'gamey' to me, I didn't like it at all. The graded cheddar cheese was bomb and it was good, but I don't care for deep fried hot dogs, but hey! I tried something new!! He got the L.A. Street Dog and in my opinion everything we ordered seemed to have soemthing masking the way the hot dog tasted, I want to taste the hot dog not a bunch of other shit that masks how truly good it can be. In my opinion it had potential, but I probably won't be returning here, I give it a three stars because he does have a good damn hot dog, I can tell by the 'snap' it has when you bite into it, he was very knowledgeable on the dog, and it does have a nice casing on it. But I really will take my Cupid's anyday. By the way - fuck garlic french fries I should have gotten the tots. Sigh. MY friend and I were thoroughly disappointed, we thanked him for his service and food and we left....and went to cupids. I ordered the Chicago dog. Jeff ordered the Bacon Cheese Onion Melt dog.... And tater tots!!! OK.. The hot dogs were amazing!!! It is pretty cool that this restaurant was on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Some of the staff wore T-Shirts that said Guy Fieri ate here. The service was quick and the food was hot and delicious. OK, went back last week (I've been trying to beat the Diners Drive Inn and Drives crowd that is sure to follow the airing on 8/10/09) and tried two more: The Mexicali Dog (topped with chipotles guacamole, sour cream and grilled onions). I liked it, but so far this is my least favorite of all I have tried. But I am not a real guac lover so I am biased. I also had a Bacon Cheddar Melt Dog. OMG! OK, I love bacon so how could I go wrong here. This was so good. But the best part of the meal -- I FINALLY tried the Tater Tots! These ALONE make any trip to Fab Hot Dogs totally worth it. Seasoned and tender inside with perfect crispy crunchiness outside. HOW DO THEY DO IT!!! They should put THESE in a burrito with some chili and some dogs! LA street food in the Valley. Say what? This is my new spot. I've been looking for a place like this in the valley for the longest time. Dirty dogs, corn, fries and burgers. Need I say more? This place makes it just like the street vendors in LA, but the only difference is that you have the comfort of knowing that it's sanitary! The workers are extremely friendly. The cashier was super nice, chefs were all welcoming and a man greeted us on our way out. I tried the LA street dog, corn (it's called something else on the menu), Fab burger, garlic fries.... just the thought of it all makes me want to go back. Can't believe I just discovered this place after a few years of living in the valley. Def recommend to those who love street food. read more

Ok I've been trying to get to this place for almost a year. Unfortunately I had a near death experience which limited me for a while. So now partially recovered I finally made it here. I ate like a pig the first time. I got 3 dogs and chili taters. The taters were awesome. The dogs well....... The la street dog was delicious. The bald eagle ripper not so good. Maybe next time Ill get the ripper with out that yucky sauce. The chili cheese dog, well........ The cheese was not melted. I hate the way cheddar cheese tastes when cold. YUCK! We have been eating here for years. The BEST dogs in L.A. You must try the ripper. I recently tried a patty melt. It's an off menu item. $4.95 and it's delicious. 2 nights ago I had a pastrami burger. I will definitely have that again. They even have homemade soup during the cold weather. Free delivery with a $20 minimum. UPDATE.. Tried the "Sea Dog". Deep fried Cod on a foot long bun. They make their own tartar sauce. It comes with lettuce and tomatoes. DELICIOUS... Took the family here on our way home. I ordered the Sonoran Dog and a BACON vanilla Shake. The dog was good and had crazy snap to it, you had to really bite into it. The bacon shake surprisingly was great. Dont be scared!! The fries and tater tots where good to. We will be going back since my wife has friends and family in the area. I have to give this 5-stars because even though this was on TV and got all these great reviews, I'm still not a huge hot dog fan and I did not expect this visit to be mind blowing. However, they DO make crazy hot dogs. I lived closer to Pink's for a long time, and to give some comparison, Pink's is always open and crowded and full of drunk people, but their food doesn't TOUCH this place's food. With all this being said, I have to mention that the one thing that is amazing and I personally think makes the biggest difference is their "rip-dog." It is a crazy looking hot dog, but it is so original and great tasting, and I think this is the hot dog that really got me to like this place, most hot dogs do not taste this good no matter how you cook it or what you put on it. They are a weird concept to me, and have always kind of grossed me out with what (some) hot dogs are made of.... with that said however, this place is AMAZING! I ordered a Saugedog and garlic ranch fries. Very disappointing even the ranch dressing didn't taste like ranch dressing. The fries were soggy and the sausage tasted like it was bad or old. This was the first last time I will ever do that. I guess the deliver guy made many deliveries at once. The hot dogs left the store at about 6:35 and didn't get to me until almost 7:20. In that time period, the buns had turned into soggy dough. That was a waste of $30 for 2 hot dogs, sausage and garlic fries. I tossed out all the food and walked to a local taco truck because the soggy mess of food was not edible. First off, All hail the departed Weiner Factory as the best there ever was. Now back to the current offerings. Been going to Fab's for a year before it was on D, D,& Ds. Then it blew up and you had to fight the crowds to get a dog. Then they moved to the new, bigger location and all is good again. The Carolina Slaw Dog is dog perfection. The slaw is diced fine enough that it works perfectly with the chili. If you want somethingwith more of a kick, get the Spicy Redneck or the LA Street Dog. What a letdown Was expecting a "RIPPER" in the class of Rutt's Hut in New Jersey. I even cited this as the reason for our visit and specificly asked if they had been able to duplicate the Ripper like in New Jersey. Was assured they did it the same way. Yeah ... They did deep fry the dog in oil and the skin did crinkle a little bit when you bite down. But, and it's a big BUT ...The skin was not "ripped" open to give you that extra crunch. My suspicion is that the oil was not hot enough to accomplish this without overcooking the dog. Mentioned this to the counter staff and got that blank look. yes, i am a fan! i've come to lunch here with co-weez and by my lonesome quite a bit. my typical order is 2 soy-protein dogs: 1 manhattan style. 1 mexicali style (hold the crema please). after 5 minutes, both soy dogs are on the way down to the potbelly. the soy dogs are steamed to perfection which makes every bite soft and flavorful especially with toppings on them. don't sleep on the secret spicy curry catsup! there's only 1 bottle at the pick up counter and it travels around from table to table. if you enjoy spicy, try it. it's fabulous! for those interested in having their face on the "i ate it all" wall of fame, ask for the list of hot dogs on the menu. get a stamp every time you order a different hot dog. when you complete eating every hot dog on the menu, your face goes up on the wall for everyone to see. smile. read more

"Too many cooks spoil the broth," or in this case the burger, became true today. I phoned in the order. After about 10 minutes I went to pick up the order. I stood at the take-out register for about five minutes. There were about six people behind the counter, but nobody saw me. I had to finally ask the guy that was across from me on his side of the counter if my order was ready and that I'd been waiting for about 5 minutes. Then one of the several cooks walks up to me and says in a confrontational tone, "what did we do wrong!" So I restated. Then he tells one of the other guys to give me my food and "get her outta here." This was my third time there, but this wasn't the first time that their customer service lacked. The cheeseburger and fries were very average. I truly miss QT Chicago Dogs that was there before; the QT Chicago Dogs staff was friendly and down to earth and served satisfying food. Mmm Fab's. Fab's is another local favorite of mine as I crave it constantly. I've been a patron since before the days of their Triple D/Guy notoriety (not saying this in an elitist way, just letting you know that I've been a customer for a while); happened to stumble upon Fab's at their original location after a trip to Turner's. Fab's has come a long way! This place can get busy for a week or two after their featured episode of Triple D has aired on the Food Network. However, their new location is a breath of fresh air. The old location was tiny! I've run the gamut of the menu so far, and like a lot of my other favorite haunts, I've introduced many friends to Fab's (of which they all become instant fans as well. In fact, I think one of my friends comes here more often than I get to, now). Their menu has a nice variety that can satisfy most people's palettes. Worst case scenario? Build your own dog with your own slew of toppings! Their menu is on their website (which I highly recommend you taking a look before you head out for the first time) in case you want to take a look at what is offered. The hot dogs are delicious - not too salty and no "fake" aftertaste that some other hot dog places have to them. Love that the buns are served warm(steamed or grilled upon request) too, as I feel a cold hot dog bun can really detract from the whole experience. Here is what I tried so far: LA Street Dog - bacon wrapped dog with grilled peppers and onions, mayo, mustard, ketchup, jalapenos and tomato. Pretty popular item, though I like to ask for my jalapenos grilled as well. Kansas City Dog - this is my favorite. Bacon wrapped dog with grilled onions, cheddar cheese and bbq sauce. What else could you ask for? Breakfast dog - Bacon wrapped (noticing a trend here?) with a fried egg, cheese and your choice of mayo or salsa. You would think the egg could be overwhelming, but it actually complements the cheese and dog very well. I usually have to debate whether I want this dog or the Kansas City on most days Lincoln Log Dog - another bacon wrapped with cream cheese, tomato, onions, hot sauce, mustard and celery salt. I think the cream cheese makes this dog. Sounds weird, but works very well. Texas Burrito Dog - I love me some chili too! Very unique concept, but each bite is like a flavor explosion in your mouth. Two hot dogs with bacon, chili (which is some fine chili!), cheddar cheese, onions, mustard and frito chips in a tortilla! A must try! Ruben Dog - pastrami, jack cheese, sauerkraut and mustard. Love that they grill the pastrami. Pastrami is so good here! Philly Cheesesteak Dog - exactly what is sounds like. Steak, peppers, onions and provolone. I've had this twice and one time the steak was cooked very well, and the other time it was a little too tough. I guess it might be hit or miss on this one? Monte Christo Dog - grilled turkey dog with grilled ham, swiss and strawberry jam. I like to add cream cheese to this one. Surprisingly good. Next time I think I will try and sub for a beef dog to see if there is a difference. Other stuff: Polish Sausage - nice flavor and nice little kick to it. I didn't find it was too spicy. You can also order a mild sausge. Hamburgers - also had good flavor and was juicy! Don't sleep on the burgers, they are good! Ripper - Rippers are awesome as well. Back in the day, you'd have to wait for a few minutes for them to cook it! Now it is relatively a lot faster, as the wait time has decreased significantly. Glad to see Fab's get the business to warrant the increase of cooking staff to get us our dogs quickly! It is a nice change that has accompanied the new location. When I order rippers, I like to build them myself. I'll go crazy with the toppings, usually going for: grilled onions, jalapenos, fresh garlic, jack cheese, and grilled peppers. Tots and Fries - very good. They are not soggy, and always come out hot and crunchy! Frito Pie: Chili, beans, frito chips, onions and cheddar cheese. 'Nuff said. I couldn't finish it on my own, bring a friend! Don't sleep on this place. Whatever you are feeling, Fab's probably has a hot dog solution for it. Don't mind the people who come in talking about hearing about the place on Food Network. Find a good dog that appeals to you and indulge! In fact, bring a group of friends and convince everyone to order a different one so you can try each other's! Happy for your continued success Fab's! Excellent. I don't know how else to put it. My friends and I just got done with a 12 mile hike and stopped by for a feast of chili fries, Eagles, and pastrami dogs. The pastrami dog is my favorite. Went Back on Saturday 03/14/2009. It still kicks ass! I had the Fairfax Dog. I've been craving it since the last time I was there. It is an incredible double dog, wrapped in large four tortilla with........are you ready......chili, cheese, pastrami, mustard and onions! It was killer! My wife had the Texas Dog. Very similar to mine but it has chili, cheese, BACON, mustard, onions & FRITOS! I met fellow Yelper Sherrie G. and her boyfriend. They were hanging out enjoying some grub! Little hole in the wall with a big menu! First time I've eaten here, and had high expectations from the reviews. I mistakenly ordered "The Ripper" thinking it was the "Hel's Jersey Ripper." After re-reading the menu while waiting and realizing that I'd ordered a deep fat fried hot dog, I wasn't too excited about what was coming. I was wrong, though, this was a pretty good dog. Since this is Los Angeles, and we have a world famous hot dog stand in the form of "Pinks," it's inevitable that reveiwers are going to compare the two. The dog here was better than Pinks, but since I only gave Pinks a 2 star rating, I don't feel obligated to give Fabs more than a three based on the hot dog. The dog was good, the bun seemed like a grocery store bun, which isn't bad, but isn't great. At that point, my mind starts saying "$2.75 for a hot dog that's good, but not great, I could have a good but not great hot dog at home for a lot less...." So if the hot dog only warranted 3 stars, why did I give this place 4 stars? IT'S THE CHILI, FOOL! Wow, the chili really caught me off guard. I ordered a "Frito Pie" for my side dish, and what was served up was a delicious chili on top of Fritos and smothered in cheese. I used to have Fritos and chili back in Texas, but this was so much better. The chili's flavored just right and has a great texture. I'd go here just for the chili alone. The next time I visit Fabs, I'll be ordering chili dogs, and I'm sure they'll be great. Ordered the Nuremberg Bratwurst 6-inch and it was delicious. The polish sausage hot dog is slathered with brown mustered and topped with a heapful of sauerkraut. I ordered a side of garlic fries and a friend ordered a side of chili cheese fries, both of which consist of thin cut fries that are nice and crispy. There was no line but it sure does seem that they're ready to handle long lines considering that the cashier has a his script down when dealing with first time customers. The dogs were good. I had the bald eagle and coney (island?). Loved the bald eagle...it had this spicy slaw type topping which was amazing. The coney dog was just a chilli dog...it was nothing special. Two hot dogs and I was thoroughly satisfied customer. The only downside was that the place was a bit dirty and a lot of the workers were just standing around...they could've cleaned the place up a bit. But then again, I'm being nit-picky. Browsing yelp during the car ride out of the Valley I stumbled on Fab Hot Dogs... the pictures made us salivate, but since we already had dinner plans we decided to get it for lunch the next day. I placed my order (to my bf) - Kansas City Dog + diced onions + sliced pickles + fresh garlic - Tater tots (The sweet little man got me Jalapenos on the side but didn't realized they charged $0.35 for having them on the side instead on top of the dog!!? Do little plastic containers really cost that much?) The first bite was really good! Barbecue sauce with bacon wrapped beef dog... mmm delicious. ....But it soon wore off... on further tasting the bun was just a regular old hot dog bun that you buy in bulk. Staring at the toppings I could have made this at home. The tater tots were none other than frozen supermarket tater tots that, once again, I could have made at home. My boyfriend and I were kind of hungry so we stopped here to get something quick to eat - FIRST TIMERS! My boyfriend is a HUGE Chili Fan - he LOVES chili - he didn't like this chili, he said it was too sweet. I tasted it (not a big chili fan), it tasted like chili to me. About $4 I had the Los Angeles Dog (or something like that) and it was REALLY good. Bacon wrapped with onions & bell peppers, OH SO GOOD! About $4 I think the BEST part were the TATOR TOTS!!!!! I think it might just go back for those. It wasn't until after we had eaten that we saw that you can get a combo meal - any dog, drink, and tots for $2.75 *sigh* I guess it just gives me a reason to go back. HA! I usually don't love hot dogs...except Dodger dogs and Fabs hot dogs. No kidding, I have lived in the neighborhood for 11 years and just wandered into this place a few weeks ago. I kept seeing a line out the door and after checking Yelp, I knew it must be good. In fact, there are so many people that go in and out of this place that they need directional signs and ropes (enter here, exit there). With a menu filled with so many options on the menu it is hard to decide what to try. Because I am a purist I chose a simple hot dog, split and grilled and topped with ketchup and mustard. You cannot leave here without trying the tater tots, but get one order to share because they give you a lot. Another thing to try is tater tots with chilli and cheese (chili cheese tater tots)...OMG its good, but its a meal by itself so don't order anything else. Lots of people say their shakes here are the best, but I think they are just okay...I guess you are going to have to have to judge for yourself. read more

Fab Hot Dog is the best place to get a hot dog! There LA Street Dog tastes exactly the same as the one in Downtown LA. I haven't tried the Ripper yet, but i heard it's really great, and it's what their known for. The Coney Island, has chili, cheese, onions, and mustard and the chili is great. It's not oily and doesn't feel heavy. I got the tater tots and the garlic ranch fries and there both really good. I can't wait to go back and try more things on the menu~ It's pretty small inside so going during lunch time can be a long wait and no seats but still worth the wait~ read more
