The Fair Oaks Burger (which has everything on it) definitely placed itself in my Top Five Burgers List yesterday when my friends and I went in for the first time. In the past, at other burger joints, I've found their bacon disappointing - the bacon is usually thin, too salty and your run-of-the-mill supermarket bacon. But at Fair Oaks, the bacon is almost like a filet mignon: Juicy, succulent, hearty. The rest of the burger was great, too. But I was just so pleased that the bacon did not suck like it has in other burgers at other places in the past... Fair Oaks renewed my love for bacon in such a real way. Their fries are steak-cut. Their tamarindo drink is a little watered down, but I liked it that way because it wasn't too syrupy or sugary. I also had the camarone rancheros (what can I say, eating multiple entrees is a talent of mine) which was also a joy eating, what with it being nice 'n greasy 'n all... but the burger really trumped everything. I was quite fond of the price range: Average of four or five bucks for a burger and six to seven bucks for a combo. That's a deal. Service: Awesome. The place is straightforward, no bells and whistles... a classic mom and pop shop with their kid running the cash register. We came here after visiting Nuccio's. My family wanted to eat burgers. I wasn't so sure but with great reviews and proximity, we decided to come here. Everyone was friendly and we were surprised by the variety of menu from Chinese to Mexican food, but we decided to stick to burgers. Really good food. The place is not all that special, older building been around a while but their food is really good. Hamburgers are huge, handmade patties with fresh veggies. I am addicted to their zucchini chips and ranch, I order well done and they're perfect. Their crunchy asada tacos are tasty as well as the teriyaki chicken tacos. Love their asian salad and wonton soup and chicken and beef bowls with veggies, rice and/or noodles, I ask for spicy and they toss it in siracha yumm! Quick update to my previous mediocre review. They are hard working, very friendly, good food for the fast food variety. This is no 5 star restaurant but it is 5 star fast (relatively...since they prep to order) food but its worth the visit if in Altadena and in need of a quick breakfast or lunch at a reasonable price. Staff have always been nothing but friendly. Yes there are some issues I mentioned in the previous review, but I would chalk those up to giving the place character. Excellent homemade hamburgers. In the twelve years I have lived in Pasadena, the Hat has set the standard by which all other local hamburgers are judged. Today, I tried Fair Oaks Burger, and am happy to say they hold the title of "the (new) best burger in town." I tried the Fair Oaks Burger combo, which had bacon, cheese, and avocado on it, along with steak fries and a drink. The workers are extremely nice, but the inside seating area is small and stuffy. I love Fair Oaks Burger for almost two years. They are local and offer a great variety of solid fast food staples for burger joints, Chinese and Mexican food. The veggie burgers (ask for grilled onions and cheese), fries, cheese fries, and fish burgers are consistently satisfying. We'll try more, but this is the spot for veggie burger cravings. I have passed by this place a million times since it's right down the street from me, but last night I finally decided to go in. The place is a no-frills burger joint (not a bad thing) but it is nice and clean with succulents on every table. It seems like almost every independent burger place in the area has those little tiny stringy french fries, which are ok, but not my favorite. So I was very pleased to find that they serve steak fries! not too greasy or overly seasoned, but just right. The garden burger was quite good, though not my favorite ever. Altadena is very little and I like all the old fashion homes at the bottom of the beautiful mountains, but I haven't really taken the time to visit any of the restaurants in the area. It's right next to the Angeles National Forest which made it really convenient because me and some friends go hiking all the time and we just go here because it is so conveint We usually don't choose fair oaks burger we mostly go to Jim's burger down on Woodbury we usually go to both because its close to our homes in altadena. I enjoy almost everything on the menu. Especially the teriyaki chicken tacos and there well cut steak fries. They also have a delicious avocado burger with bacon cooked to your desire. There menu its not expenses either its great for all ages and races. It is well groomed restaurant and very family orientated. Fair Oaks Burger is on the north side of the 210 Freeway and is just a couple blocks north of W. Woodbury Rd. It is not a fancy restaurant at all and it looks like it has been there forever. They also have a drive-thru window. Inside the restaurant there's about 5 or 6 tables and a few outside. I didn't see any umbrellas for shade, so it might get a little toasty out there on warm days. Visiting some friends in Altadena and ended up at Fair Oaks. I was dubious about the food given the crazy combo of Burger + Mexican + Chinese. One bite of the panko crusted deep fried zucchini and I am a total convert. The burger and fries were finger lickin tasty. And the split nachos with hand fried tortilla chips were so good I was scheming on how to eat more than my fair share. But the zucchini is what pushed this one up to 5 stars for me. I ordered the seafood plate and also not let down- fish and shrimp perfectly cooked, decent tartar sauce and a basic salad to "cancel out" those fries and the batter. Been passing by for a few weeks and always laughed at the signage offering "burgers, Mexican and Chinese food". Decided to stop in today for lunch. It was quietly hopping, a streamlined operation producing a surprisingly fast orders so that while busy there was zero wait time to order. I ordered the Carne Asada Taco salad from the exceedingly attentive cashier (owner?) . The staff were all kind and obvioulsy working hard. The huge salad was promplty delivered to my table and it was beautiful. Fresh and absolutely spot on delicious. I sat outside under the pergola and was quite comfortable. Updating to 5 stars because RANCH IS BACK. Also the owner is so nice and truly cares about her customers. I always see her chatting up the locals, even the local riffraff. I love supporting small businesses that truly care about the people in their communities. The food is great to boot. You will definitely have to wait for your food, but they make it to order so what do you expect? I've never waited longer than 10 minutes, even with multiple people in the place and several cars in the drive thru. If fast convenient mass production is what you want, there's a McDonald's down the street that you can patronize. I'll stick to real ingredients and fresh food. read more
