Best chicken ever. My family and I have been coming here for many years but haven't given them props until now. They have also catered my parties before and every one after gets hooked on their food. Owners also are very generous with Altadena/Pasadena community. During recent fires they too were affected and didn't stop them from helping those in need. They were providing free food everyday to victims, firefights, national guard and their own workers who also lost their homes. You can't go wrong eating there. I was hungry and looking for a fast food and came across this place. First impression was great, plenty of parking (came on Sunday late afternoon), clean and inviting. Got outdoor sitting and indoor with huge mural on both wall and big glass windows. In the menu, it said only chicken but when I ordered a burrito, I can choose beef, pork or chicken. I got half chicken and half beef no bean with everything spicy & with red sauce plus a Mexican Coke bottle for $21. The staff is nice and friendly and he brought the food out to me once it done. The burrito is big & heavy. It was aok, not bad but not that great either...I had better and I was hungry too. Part of rice was abit uncooked and part was overcooked. The chicken was abit dried for my taste but the favor is there. As for the beef, it was just okey, could have abit more of a spice or favored up abit. He poured a little spicy salsa into it to have me try. I have been eating here for years and never thought to simply add the salsa to the rice. Game changer! Loved it. I tried this place the chicken is ok nothing bad but also not spectacular. A couple observations. First the chicken isn't fresh I seen them reheat it when I ordered it. It tasted a little burnt from reheating. It's way over priced I got 4 pieces chicken only $22 ! If I got it with sides it would be close to $30 not worth it! I have been coming here for almost nine years. The menu is simple but the food is always so good. The seasoning on the chicken is so tasty, the regular and the spicy. Oh man - the spicy salsa. Dragons may not love Spicy Salsa (Dragon's love Tacos), but Patrick loves the Spicy salsa from Pollos Puebla #1. I ordered the 12 piece combo with half spicy chicken and half regular chicken. When this food is fresh, it is delicious. The side orders (potato salad, cole slaw, macaroni salad) were also delicious. I probably should have chose beans and rice as a side as well, so will be sure to do that next time. Service was quick, the food was fresh, and this was a delicious meal. Yes, this is more expensive than pollo loco, or a costco rotisserie chicken, but man was it good. The 12 piece combo lasted us for 2 meals (family of 4). I had done a hard Pelofondo bike ride earlier in the day, so I was really hungry and able to put a lot of food back. The dark meat with with the spicy flavors was just so good. This place used to be great when their prices weren't so out of control. For a small neighborhood dive, it seems pretty crazy to charge $14 for a burrito and $36 for 8 pieces of chicken. Also, they used to serve a great potato salad which they have now replaced with a very watery mashed potato that is nowhere near as good. This is the local version of El Pollo Loco. I tend to stick with the dark meat since the white meat can sometimes be on the dry side, but the wings are really yummy. The seasoning they use on the chicken is really good, and I love their mild salsa that I end up dipping the chicken in. Sometimes when I do get a chicken breast piece, I'll just rip it up and keep dipping it in the salsa. The sides are good too - they have a good coleslaw and potato salad and mac salad, rice and beans are quite good too and I always am a sucker for corn on the cob. How has this sweet spot not been reviewed yet? I can not believe it! By now you may know that I love to pick up some grilled chicken on the way home from work. I don't surrender to drive-thru windows and I LOVE mesquite charcoal. Puebla's chicken is outstanding, salty, crispy, grilled yummy stuff and the sides are good too. They will pour you a cup of purified water while you are waiting for your order to come up on the house. Who does not love that in this hot weather? You can get a good bargain if you have a family to feed here as the specials are designed to reduce in price the more mouths you have to feed. The salsa Roja is an outstanding testament to fire grilled red chillies but it is not for the faint of heart. (that's why I love it!) Don't worry, they have the weak tomato based stuff too for all you chicken tongues out there. The parking lot is stress-free, the place is housed in an enchanting adobe building and if you can't handle us down and dirty folks from Pollo Unico, you might find this ambiance more to your liking.
