Do not stay here! This is a 1 star hotel with 3 star prices. The 3 guys on reception were not very welcoming. The ice machine room reeked of curry and the room was disgustingly dirty. We were travelling with a small dog and would not even leave her there while we went out to eat. Breakfast was included but we could not wait to leave, skipping breakfast and a shower. The whole property is need of a full renovation to justify the price they charge. read more

This is a weekly/ monthly rental that rents a few rooms by the night. Lots of families living here. Little kids wandering around with no adult supervision (we're talking 2 year olds, near a busy street). Advertising a pool to swim in but winter cover was still on in late June Stains on sheets (I'll post photos). This was almost $200 and was by far the worst place we ever stayed. (The extra $30 was for our dog). Very disappointed. We booked with Hotel Tonight (you get no chance to change your mind once you book). Won't be using them again either since this was a preferred place to stay on their site. read more

I thought after seeing the sewage in the bathtub & sink it was bad enough but then seeing the blood & fecies all over the bathroom that drew the line!! Management was contacted & I was told "if I didn't like it I could find another place to go!!!" Which I of course did as I wouldn't let a farm animal stay in that room! The state has been contacted and I have high hopes this place will be shut down!! The owner needs to realize that here in the United States there are health guidelines that should be followed! When I walked it no one was there at the front desk. I had to call someone. When they came to help they were on their personal phone talking to someone. They whispered to me if I had a reservation and asked for credit card. It took forever to get checked it. He didn't look me in the eye once. The front office looked like it was under construction. Get to oUr room and it smells like vinegar. Tv didn't work. I called down he had me unplug and replug it back in. The heat blew cool air all night. The fan never stopped. The next day our key didn't work. Once we got into the room only one bed was made and it still smelled like vinegar. read more

Decent accommodations in this small town without any chain hotels except for the unusually expensive Comfort Inn. Anyway, we drove around, and this place looked clean and mostly modern, so we booked it, and we weren't disappointed. They have clean, large rooms, and free WiFi. The rooms also have a small fridge. Only problem, they say no smoking so that is good for future, but some rooms still have old carpet which may have been smoked in older years as you could smell some musty/smokey smells. Got a non pet friendly room due to my pet dander allergies. Apparently they use the same vacuum for all the rooms because it still smelled like dog. We had to leave the door to the balcony open the whole time to keep a breeze in the room and have it tolerable. People that have dogs probably wouldn't notice, but for people who don't, or have allergies it is a big issue. The areas under the bed skirts, and between the furniture hasn't been hit with a vacuum in quite a while. It was littered with ancient M&M's, used tissues, and crusty peanuts from ages ago. If you were to lift the toilet seat, you would have the pleasure of discovering the misfires of all the previous young boys along the rim of the toilet bowl. And upon arrival our young daughter came running over with a pair a dirty socks that she had found under the end table asking if they were ours. It is also not an "inn" it is more of a motel. And not a nice one. All the pictures we found online lead us to belive it was a wonderful place, but they were all taken stratigically from the window of one room, and the outside pictures were all only taken from one point in the small yard they have. Most of the rooms have a lovely view of the parking lot, or a fenced in brook about 6 feet away from the building. We will not be coming back. read more

A great stay for zookeepers from safari parks who miss the sounds of pachyderms, who apparently called in an early wake up call upstairs (after staying up late) and are enjoying a leisurely stroll for a couple of hours over my head since 5:30 this morning. Also good for ship engineers who can't sleep without the sounds of heavy HVAC and refrigeration machinery randomly switching on and off, loud buzzing fluorescent lights, squeaking doors, and a challenging puzzle of "can I get the TV to turn on?" before bedtime. I'll say that it was clean and spacious, but my first warning should have been when they moved my room downstairs when I specifically requested upstairs. Not a lot of choices in St. Johnsbury for hotels... I think I'm going with an air bnb next time... read more

There are a great many things of note about this place: 1) the rooms are spacious and comfortable 2) 24 hour complimentary coffee in the lobby 3) Grills in the courtyard 4) Pet friendly rooms. (we don't have pets with us, but it's nice to know that there is the option) Is it a AAA 5-Diamond hotel? No. Is it a comfortable, affordable place to hang your hat when you are in the area? Yes. The wifi is free and open which, as you can imagine, tends to bog it down a bit. It is convenient to I-91 which can get your north or south easily. The views in the back overlook and old mill. Fairly scenic. The grounds are clean and the desk staff is very courteous and friendly. This is our second stay here and it won't be our last. Tip - They have a "book two, get one night free" promotion on their website. Definitely worth the price. read more

There aren't many hotel choices in St. Johnsbury, VT, but for an Inn, this place was good enough for me! The rooms are HUGE. Lots of walking space and space for your luggage...and then you still have space. The decor is obviously outdated, as well as the TV, but there are plenty of channels to choose from (no HBO though). The bathrooms were clean and simple, and there were two sinks (one inside the bathroom, and one outside). There is no continental breakfast served here (I know that the Comfort Inn offers a free continental breakfast), but there is free coffee in the small lobby. There are vending machines outside the lobby. The view is gorgeous. There is a lot of green everywhere. read more

Clean and spacious room. Our room had 2 separate sinks which I thought was great. Decks could use some work. Seemed a bit weathered. Nice view and beautiful pool area. TV was s bit small lol not like mine at home. Good shower with plenty of towels and wash cloths which is a big deal to my wife. TWO sinks! What luxury....we can both spread out, and don't have to worry about steaming up the mirror. Lots of space to walk, spread luggage for repacking. Great view off the balcony. Excellent service at front desk. Wifi free, with no "password" etc needed...just connect. No elevator, but we pack light, and wanted an upper room. There don't seem to be a lot of people here....we saw someone leave without staying because there is no "free continental breakfast" with the room. That means there will be no large groups of large people trying to get their money's worth at a buffet of dry, old, cold food. No loss there, and we will look for some oatmeal on the main street tomorrow. The bed seems comfortable, and there is a VERY nice little fridge with a large freezer compartment, and an adequate tv, although it is not large. Who needs a large tv with the beautiful view? Yelpers.....this is a great find, and at a price less than we paid at a Best Western last night in Boston/Marlborough. Update: the shower was really nice. The designers of this room made some very good choices that matter to the traveler. The shower curtain has the clear panel at eye height. The bathroom has THREE lights: shower with fan, over-sink, and heat lamp. The fridge is a useful design, in case you are freezing cooler packs. The light switch by the bed turns off all the room lights! You can use the bathroom without the fan. The only reason we didn't give it five stars is the stairs and lack of coffee maker in the room. If "0" or "negative numbers" were a choice that would be what I would pick. My husband and I planned our honeymoon road trip to a T and had made a reservation for one night at the Fairbanks Inn in St. Johnsbury, VT. We called around 8:45pm to verify that it would be okay to show up later due to being delayed in driving. The front desk person stated yes (the front desk did not ask about reservation or confirm anything... because that would be considered customer service). We arrived at 11:14. Showed our reservation, gave ID etc. they proceeded to say they did not have our room. The front desk called the manager, Chris, on call and claimed it was cancelled. My response was "by who?" Because it was not me and as I showed the person up front, I had my reservation with number. They proceeded to say they had no rooms available and could not do anything for us. For Vermont, in the middle of the fall, finding a place was near impossible. After my husband and I left the hotel and desperately tried calling every single hotel/motel/overnight stay facility within an hour we found out every single place was booked or the front desk did not answer. Once again at this time it was nearly midnight and some locations closed their front desk at 10pm. We went to a local gas station and spoke with a police officer about the situation. His response was that it did not shock him that everything was booked it was parents' weekend at the college and also with the fall foliage brought many tourists. The officer was nice and tried assisting us with a place to stay but was unsuccessful due to everything being booked (we already knew that but really appreciated the help). So unfortunately, we had to sleep in our car. From the conversation from the front desk person and manager it was very sketchy and sounded like they "gave away" our room because we had the charge still on our card the night morning. I have never been so disappointed in a hotel like this before in all my travels. Do not go here unless you are a gambling person who is willing to chance not having a place to stay. Two days later: After the above incident occurred (this was originally posted on google reviews), I called my credit card company and spoke with them about the reservation. My husband and I had used our CC company points to reserve this room. First, the automatic operator asked if I was calling about my reservation at Fairbanks Inn on October 8, so clearly, we still had a reservation that was available. Second, when I got on the phone with a customer service representative, they stated the reservation was open and not cancelled. So- the manager on the phone when we went to the hotel and the front desk clerk lied. They claimed the reservation was cancelled on 09/20 and on 10/10 it was not cancelled but was "completed" since it was posting the date of reservation. Thoughts of what occurred: The front desk/ hotel probably overbooked and then proceeded to lie about the situation instead of being honestly and trying to assist or make their mistake right. Then if I did not call my credit card company about the points- we would have lost all our points because WE DID HAVE A RESERVATION! So, this place I would NEVER EVER suggest anyone stay at. read more

Very frustrated! We recently had a Relay for Life fundraiser in St Johnsbury vt. We had a band from out of state come to give a concert. One of our relay team members contacted the Fairbanks Inn for a quote on room costs and was given a price for the rooms. The band contacted Fairbanks within days to book their rooms. When they arrived to check in, the room rates had doubled in price and they were unwilling to honor the price previously quoted. Very disappointing customer service! read more

This is a great place to stay if you're in Saint Johnsbury. It's close to the highway, convenient store nearby, and the rooms are huge. The Inn reflects the small-town feel, as it does a wonderful job accommodating guests. 24-hour coffee in the lobby, and bagels on Sunday morning. So kind. I just received an update from the manager of this hotel. She wanted to let me know that the carpet in room 115 has since been replaced and all of their pet rooms have been deep cleaned. She also let me know that they have implemented new protocol for maintaining that level of cleanliness. I haven't been back there to see for myself but since she made the effort to reach out and let me know, I thought I should share this update. My original review from May 2015 is below: "What can I say? This place has pet-friendly rooms and I was in town in May 2015 to visit the Dog Chapel so it seemed like a logical place to stay. The desk folks were really nice but our room literally smelled like dog poop. They gave us a bottle of Febreeze and apologized that the hotel was full so they couldn't move us. I am a dog lover and travel often with my pet so I understand I'm not going to get the cleanest rooms out there. I also understand that this isn't a 5-star hotel... But I wish they'd have done something more beside just handing us a bottle of Febreeze and wishing us luck. The carpet in room 115 needs to come up or be professionally cleaned. This is a nice place in a great location. BIG rooms. Clean. Nice views. Very friendly service. We needed to extend our checkout time by half an hour so we could shower after our race and they were very accommodating. They referred us the Miss Lyndonville Diner for our much needed early breakfast. They even let us keep out little dog in the room with us. I love this place. Yes, I'm a fan. I love St. Johnsbury, VT. But I share the same last name too, how could I not be a fan? Front staff could be less sarcastic in tone especially when tired and checking in. In fact, she said that I had already checked in and stayed one week to my actual arrival! "How could that be?" I said. "I've flown all the way from AZ to be here and I just got in." But my room was clean and the view was at least four stars compared to other hotels. My ancestors were in photographs on the walls. How weird is that to stay at a hotel with your relatives immortalized in pictures from the late 1800's? Pretty cool, actually. One thing to keep in mind however is that St. J. is such a small town that the taxi cab (singular) stops running around 9pm! And there really is no place to eat or shop within walking distance from this location. read more

We have now made this our yearly sleep spot for our biking and exploring adventures in Vermont. We enjoy the area but don't like to have to pay tons to have to stay a few nights but we also want to have some comfy quiet sleep. This has yet to disappoint us in the two times we have come for a few days. Located close to a cute downtown area and two exits away (25 minutes) from Kingdom Trails. We got a room on the back ground floor so we could take advantage of the grills, picnic tables, heated pool, and for bringing the mountain bike into the room at night. The grills are small but reasonable for our needs to feed four people. I never went swimming but I did put my feet in the warm water and was tempted to grab my swim suit, great temperature. Our king sized bedroom was quiet, well maintained, good water pressure, and well stocked with toiletries. The two sinks made life easy for getting ready. The air exchange fan was easy to control and made the room to our comfort level, but I do wish the windows would have been an option. One was stuck and the other had a hole in the screen. Not enough to complain about but wish it hadn't been an issue. The staff was super friendly and perky. The coffee was always well made and offered 24/7. Tea and hot cocoa options were also available. I can't wait to come back next year for our third annual bike & relax weekend. read more

Over the years we have stayed here several times each Summer. We have been customers through 3 owners, and the property now has problems resulting from too many transitions. There is no one in charge, and the very nice people on site have no resources and no authority. Our most recent stay jad several problems including a last minute room substitute which was not what we wanted at the price. No manager available, no owner available, no solution to problems, no callback. My suggestion to customers is do not prepay, do not use a card on a debit account - protect yourself so you can at least go through a credit card company, expedia or travelocity - so at least you have some recourse. The new folks may eventually sort it out, and I hope they do, but protect yourself in the meantime. read more

Large rooms! I was solo and the room would have been big even with my wife and 2 boys. No coffee in the room, but it was a step away at the front desk. The rooms are super well insulated as I slept much later than normal because of the quiet and great light blocking shades. No hot tub, but they offered a pass good at the hotel down the road. I liked that they had a fridge and microwave in the room. Very relaxing after a long day. read more

The rooms were clean and very big. We had 2 sinks in our room, definitely a huge plus. However, we didn't have hot water in the morning! It was awful and I was very upset about it (it was during Thanksgiving weekend. It was freezing!). The receptionist was very helpful and within minutes we had someone from maintenance knocking our door. Turns out, that if you stay in the rooms farther away from the reception, your hot water is intermittent. So as long as you stay towards the middle of the hotel, you'll be fine. read more

A little disappointing considering the price . . . Traveling through the northeast, we had just stayed at a Fairfield in New York for less than this hotel which had much more updated and cleaner rooms. Upon arrival, the front desk staff was a little disorganized. Then, when entering our room, it smelled as if it hadn't been opened in a year; although, after leaving the balcony and front doors open for about 15 minutes, the odor in the room seemed to lighten up. The room was very roomy, but the carpet was stained in numerous places. There was a nice sized refrigerator in the room, but no coffee pot. Even though there wasn't a continental breakfast, the front desk clerk did refer us to a great restaurant one city away. Overall . . . This wasn't the worst motel in which we've stayed, but they do need some updating, cleaning and freshening up. read more

This is the best property we have been fortunate to stay in on our cross country trip. We are a military family and have made several cross country road trips. You never know what you will get when you are on the road and picking something on the way. This hotel is gorgeous clean and on amazing expanse of green grass property with clean sparkling heated pool. Badminton and horseshoes. Rooms were spacious and staff was friendly. We had our doggies with us and biscuits awaited them in the lobby Our only regret is that we did not arrive earlier I the day to enjoy the hotel more. My stay at this Inn was awful. The clerk at the front desk was rude and talked bad about other clerks and the new owners.The young man at the desk in the morning was sleeping when we came in and never said a word to us. The coffee was cold and the counter where it was, was dirty and sticky.We were told there would be juice and pastries in the morning but we saw none.When we came back in to check out the lady at the desk at the time was very nice and apologized for the poor service we recieved.They need more clerks like her. No closet in room, no iron, no ironing board. Cheap shower head with weak small diameter spray. Furniture and bedding are old, worn out and stained. Carpeting pulling up on the edges of the wall. Noisy air conditioner, that constantly cycles on and off every couple of minutes. Pool towels are cheap and miniature. Construction crew set up in parking lot, sawing wood from sunrise to sunset. Female receptionist at check-in was reasonably friendly but manager who was dressed in a t-shirt, gym shorts and flip-flops stood there with a scowl on his face. No smile, no greeting, just stared at me during the entire check-in process. Manager apparently does not realize that he is in the hospitality business. Our room was extremely comfortable: spacious; good air conditioning; good shower, 2d sink & vanity outside of the bathroom; excellent wi-fi service; mini-fridge and microwave; and (last but not least) a private balcony with a pleasant view of lawn and trees. This is the second time that I have stayed here and it is average at best. If it was not for the location just off the highway it would not be worth it. The decor is just ok, the room was clean, but the air conditioning very noisy. The thing that bothered me the most was that I used priceline and it took the girl over 20 minutes to figure out how to get me a room then not only did I have priceline come out of my account but Fairbanks Inn put a $151 hold on my account for incidentals, what incidentials there is nothing there to be an incidential. That hold is still not off my account, I was told a hold would be on my account but no one said it would be more than what I paid for the room. I was told the hold would be off when I checked out, it still is not. It is okay just to crash but if you stay for more than a day go elsewhere. read more

There aren't enough characters to describe how bad this place is... But, I will try. First, I brought a large group with a block of 12 rooms. Upon arrival at 1 p.m. we were told NONE of the rooms were ready. We were told "this was a last minute booking." This was not true as the reservation confirmation dated back to December. The front desk person was anything but helpful with recommendations for area dining. The rooms smelled of 30 dirty ashtrays lit on fire. As if the service wasn't bad enough we greeted by three town police cars upon settling into our rooms and an apparent drug raid complete with kicking down doors and a loud shouting. I made the mistake of leaving behind an item which took five phone calls and a plea to the manager to get someone to locate the item in a room no less than 50 yards from the front desk... Pay the extra money and stay at the Comfort Inn up the road! read more
