On a Saturday morning, my boyfriend and I dined here around 9am. We were lucky to score one of the few parking spots since there isn't many and parking is tight. Upon walking in, I was fairly surprised at the size of the place inside since it looks much smaller from the outside. Service was pretty decent. Not overly personable, but had what we needed. I ordered a scrambled egg plate with patty sausage, home fries, and a blueberry muffin. The blueberry muffin was my favorite, it was really good. The home fries were less desirable. I wish they were crisper and maybe had onions with them to add more flavor. My boyfriend ordered his breakfast with an extra order of toast and we had to ask our server to bring it out because it was forgotten about. The food could of overall used more seasoning. We enjoy coming here. It's easy, the atmosphere is chill, the food is good. Nice diner spot. The came under new management a while ago, but the staff is just as nice as ever. Food usually comes out quick. Lots of options to choose from. I am usually a breakfast person, so when in the area, always try and hit this spot. The close just after lunch, so breakfast and lunch are their thing. I got the pancakes, mmm so good. I enjoy a good pancake. The potatoes are good too. My husband got a bacon, egg, cheese sandwich. I have been coming to this diner for a few years now. I usually get the 2 eggs with corned beef hash, which is amazing. They also have great French toast and omelettes. From the reviews, I was worried we wouldn't be able to get a table, but we got there around noon on a Sunday and it there were plenty of tables available. The small standalone building doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside looks a bit more modern, like it was renovated a few years ago. It's a local breakfast place with the normal breakfast options. They have a decent selection of breakfast and lunch options. I tried the Hopple Popple, which was a mixture of potatoes, eggs, onions, bacon, and cheese. It was plenty of food, and the service was great. This is a small family owned place. When you walk in, sign says sit anywhere. The booth I was sitting on was tilted to one side so couldn't sit in the middle of the bench. The service was nice and food comes out quick. The grits needed more seasoning. The pancakes were nothing special. My husband enjoyed their French toast. For the price of food, we would go back. The farmers omelette was different from others I've seen at other restaurants. This one had cubed hash brown potatoes baked into the omelette. It was quite delicious. We were on our way to have brunch at a very popular spot and noticed this little neighborhood place. Since all we wanted was an omelette and some hash browns, we absolutely gave it a try. Our omelettes were solid, I had Spinach and Feta, and my hubby had the Veggie. Since I can't have gluten they were happy to substitute the toast for tomatoes. It was supposed to be biscuits and gravy however the gravy was a really odd gelatinous pile of goop drowning two small chalky hard biscuits. I tried repeatedly attempted to get the servers attention but was ignored while she attended to to go orders and cashiering. When it was time to be presented with a check I was finally able to provide the information that my food was unacceptable and ice cold now. The solution of course was to pick up my dish and say oh Fine OK... I'll take it back. Never once did I get the chance to say oh I'd actually like to eat this morning hence why I came in to the restaurant you know to eat breakfast. And then we never see our server again. Our server was our cashier and I even had the honor of PAYING for the meal she took away. There was no acknowledgement that I didn't have a good experience or even get to eat for that matter. To add insult to injury as we stood outside the diner awaiting to leave we literally watched the elderly white lady with gray hair mock me and to other diners. Unquestionably the most ridiculous act of childish behavior you can imagine. The omelet which has ham, sausage, peppers, onions and cheddar cheese was so flavorful. The egg was perfectly cooked. The toast was pre buttered and ready for jelly. The potatoes were soft and had a light grill taste. And the grits were creamy enough to TRAVEL, add butter, salt, and cheese and still be delicious. Any place that can make sure their grits do not thicken to the point of no return, is doing something right. I wasn't feeling well. And that is why I had to order via delivery. I love lowkey diner restaurants and food so this is definitely a good spot for that. It's not fancy food just home cooked style. They have all my breakfast favs like French toast, Belgian waffles, Hashbrowns, etc. service is attentive and everyone is pretty nice. You seat yourself and the local crowd that gather there are people like your grandfather and his buddies reminiscing about the good 'ol days. Breakfast is simple and filling. Try their specials located on the far back wall or whatever your server recommends. I tried their 1/2 French toast which came with eggs, home fries or grits, and some type of breakfast meat. I was perfectly full and loved the flavor of the French toast. We also tried their biscuits and gravy which was some traditional and perfectly cooked that we wanted to get more. In a town where you have so many diner choices from upscale chains to the corner store it's often difficult to make a choice on the "best" diner but Fairbanks comes near close! My husband and I usually don't ever shake it up and stick to Shaker's (see what I did there lol) but we moved out of College Park and decided to give Fairbanks Diner a chance. Do not let the green exterior fool you! The inside is so cute, on par with a lot of those chain places everyone loves so much. Warm, bright and the mirrors on the walls fooled me into thinking it was bigger than it was lol They told us go seat ourselves and the server was prompt, friendly and attentive. The sweet tea was the perfect balance of sweet, not too much and not too little. The biggest problem I had was there were so many choices that looked good I had a hard time deciding. After going between the patty melt, eggs benedict, tuna melt, sausage and gravy I finally settled on the reuben...but the choice was hard!!! The reuben was so good, I asked for a side of the thousand island because I am a glutton lol but the corned beef was probably some of the best I've ever had, shaved thin and very tender. I loved the crinkle cut fries, my favorite. My husband seemed to like his omelet, I have no idea because it was gone before I took a second bite of my sandwich. Speaking of, there was enough sandwich to save for lunch the next day and in the air fryer it tasted almost as good as the first time. I'm pretty excited we how have a second diner we enjoy, and this one being close to home I'm pretty sure they'll see us back again sooner than later.
