3/22/16: I wandered into Falafel house on a whim while i was getting juice at Zia's across the street. I landed on a gold mine! Everything is good...but what is great is the hummus. I eat hummus almost every day. I have eaten Sabra (one of my favs), Cava Mezze, Tribe, Athenos, Little Salad Bar....this hummus is better than all of it. Creamy, flavorful, a little bit of oil on top to maintain the consistency, buttery and light... and it comes with warm pita to facilitate dipping into. in addition, they feature rice pudding, fruit cups, baklava, and pitas filled with that meat you cut of the rotary meat spit (and much more!). Charming. Much room for improvement. Unlikely to return. AMBIANCE: The restaurant floor was littered with leaves all over from the street. Autumn leaves are romantic but not in a restaurant. Decor/furnishings - shabby. At the time of my visit the air conditioner wasn't working. TREATMENT: The male and female hosts were somewhat welcoming, but not excited to see you. The food will not be served to you. You will be asked to pay in advance, (so not knowing this ahead of time I left a tip for no service in return, well ain't that special). FOOD: My first experience at this place. Got a chicken kabob platter and malt drink. The plate had rice, humus, and salad, this all and chicken were well prepared, well seasoned and delicious. The pita bread which also came with the platter was grilled dry, would be so much better if they made it fresh as opposed to stove-grill a grocery store bought pita. The malt drink was just ok, 30g of sugar, was fine to experience but for me it's not worth the caloric repeat. No-alcohol content, peach flavor, imported from Lebanon. There was a pot of hot rice soup from which you could have 1 cup if you order something ... Soup was scaldingly hot (this coming from me and I generally like very hot), ok salty taste, probably good for colder weather but it's 80 outside. I say it's a nice touch anyways. Stars are for +1 freshness of food, +1 good taste. Detractors were -1 appearance, -1 dry bread/scalding soup, -1 no service/welcome (hello & goodbye). read more

I am in a near-constant search for really good falafel - and was very happy with the falafel sandwiches here. I was glad to see that they offer both a pita and wrap sandwiches. The tabbouleh was also very good. It's a very large portion for $8 but would have preferred a smaller side portion. Tahini and hummus were also very good. read more

Middle Eastern food is maddeningly easy to come by in other cities. In Baltimore, it's like a constant mirage that dissolves as soon as you take your first bite. Za'atar continues to be the ONLY good place in the city! This place had a dim, grungy feel about it, and even though we were here on the early side for lunch, there were already crumbs and smears on the tables and floor. We ordered and paid a the counter, then sat on the edges of our seats to wait. I was momentarily tempted by the free soup, but good Lord, it was awful: thin broth, disintegrating lentils and one or two carrots in the scoop I pulled out. I salted it generously and ate a few bites before giving up for good. Our meals were not much better. The hummus was okay, a little gritty. My husband's shawarma was greasy and fatty; he didn't finish it. My falafel was bland and a little too wet inside, but the salad was inedible, woody cucumbers and underripe tomatoes, barely seasoned. The rice was decent and plentiful, but . . . come on, it was rice. How do you mess that up?! Service was as underwhelming as the food. One guy (owner?) split his time between another table and the counter, talking loudly to the staff, and I was thankful I couldn't understand him because it didn't sound good. Hannah helped me in February and she is fantastic! I have been to this place before but have been out of the loop recently. I ended up getting the Lamb Shawarma and it was beautiful! Hannah even generously told me to have this wonderful soup they have while I waited! I have come back today with a friend to show him how amazing the food was! He said how good natured and hard working Hannah is. I agreed. The falafel house also has a very comfortable atmosphere. It makes you feel very comfortable. My boyfriend wanted to try this place so he picked up some food before coming home. He had called to place the order and they said it would take 20mins but, when he got there they were just starting the order. There was a young girl at the counter who was rude and wasn't helpful when he went to pick up his order. We both ordered a falafel wrap. After sharing this story with me, I knew that there wasn't any love in the food and that we probably wouldn't enjoy it. The wrap was okay, it was just very bland. Even adding some salt and pepper probably would've made it taste better, but I didn't want to unravel the wrap. I won't be trying this place again. The poor customer service didn't want me to give anything else on their menu a try. Proceed with caution! read more

I came here mostly because the owners left a good impression on me when i came ti pickup an order for my customers. I returned today after my shift and left full and happy. They offer free tea and soup, and I went right before there lunch specials were over. Im very new to middle eastern and Mediterranean dishes, but i love trying new foods. I got the Mixed platter, which consisted of Lamb and Falafel. The lanb was a bit dry but still good and the Hummus was the best I've ever tasted. The Falafel was Crispy and green on the inside. Customer Service: Very lukewarm with the greeting and acknowledgment of me waiting. There was a gentleman waiting for food, apparently I didn't realize he was waiting because the young lady was walking behind the counter and to the back kind of aimlessly. I was not told, "one second or I'll be right with you". I didn't realize I was actually waiting on her to finish this man's order until she handed him his food. Empty restaurant around almost 2pm on a Sunday and my food took too long IMO. There was actually a couple that walked in about 10mins into my wait and left after a couple minutes of not being acknowledged. As they left they said "Let's just get some burgers, she's rude." I didn't blame them but since I kind of knew what to expect based on the reviews and I REALLY wanted to try a good flagella wrap, I waited. But, I regret the money spent! Food: I ordered the falafel wrap and just like a couple other reviews I read... It was blah, bland, flavorless! The best part of the wrap was the little sauce that dropped all the way to the bottom of the wrap and the barely dill pickles. I couldn't believe it. Have lived in the North Baltimore City area for about 20 years and frequent Towson area many times during the week, but had never walked into the Falafel House despite my love of all things hummus, grape leaves and falafel. Stopped by tonight by chance since Villagio was not taking to-go orders since they were packed. Glad I did. Ordered falafel platter, which comes with salad, hummus, and falafel over rice. It hit the spot. Clean, fresh and good. Pretty sure it was the owner who was there and he couldn't have been more friendly. Everything is made in house. The falafel is my go to and has great flavor and crunch that makes getting it again worth it. I finally tried this place after a friend kept telling me how good it is. I figured, it's just falafel. How big a deal can it really be? Turns out, it's a really big deal. The falafel wrap has so much more than your usual generic toppings. Fried cauliflower, crunchy cabbage, fresh veggies, creamy tahini, all wrapped up in a soft warm pita, with this amazing house-made hot sauce on the side. Plus the wrap is huge, so it's basically two meals. The baba ganoush is great. The free (vegan!) lentil soup is delicious. The falafel is fresh-made for each order, so don't expect this to be a quick in & out two-minute transaction. But it's sooooo worth the extra time. And if you're super hungry, there's free soup to eat while you wait! read more

Menu is simple, clean and straight to the point. Not many options, but when the place is called "Falafel House", you have an idea of what you're going in there for. The Falafel Wrap is delicious. Fresh vegetables, well-seasoned and cooked falafel, accompanied with a succulent tzatziki sauce. For $8, it is a large wrap. Each half of the wrap is practically a meal in itself. As some other reviewers have mentioned, the staff are a bit relaxed in their processes, and it took maybe 10 minutes for my particular wrap to be made. That's not a bother to me. However, if you're the impatient, uptight type of personality, calm down and go here anyway if you're hungry for some delicious falafel. Obviously very vegetarian and vegan-friendly. Some other traditional Mediterranean appetizers are offered, and there are some meat dishes available as well for the omnivore in you. Will be revisiting again soon, for sure. read more

I let the young woman behind the counter know I was nOt eating carbs(it's January, don't judge =] ) and she was very helpful, she made me a salad with Chicken Shawarma on top and used a dressing that she usually has on her's. Good, moderately priced, middle eastern, street food is a precious commodity. It takes eating at a lot of these types of places to adequately rate them. Having been brought up in the metro Detroit area of Michigan, where there are more middle eastern, Lebanese, Arabic, Armenians than in other countries, you kind of get to know the territory. We tried the basics--dolmas, lamb shawarma and falfel sandwiches. The grape leaves came with a lemon wedge and were nicely packed with seasoned rice. The falafel was nicely flavored, moist and served with cabbage and pickle on pita. The shawarma was generously packed with a pickle and tahini sauce, but a tad bit too much gristle to make it 5-star sandwich. We chatted with the owner who said he was from New York and found Towson "funny". I told him I too found Towson "funny", but I'm sure we were talking about two vastly different things.....why he came from New York to Towson is a mystery I didn't explore. Obviously proud of his business, we gave him the thumbs up for putting pickles on the sandwiches. It took them a little while to get our order together on a Sunday afternoon to a restaurant with no more than 2 others waiting. So we watched the talking heads of CNN.... Came here yesterday after spin class, it was just one guy manning the grill and taking orders but he was extremely efficient and friendly. I was feigning for a shawarma but the platter caught my eye. So as a good person will do, i ordered both, one for dinner and one for lunch. I decided to have the platter for dinner, that comes with lamb or chicken, i ordered lamb, rice, and some salad.. That was delicious, i will order that again, the shawarma i had today for lunch. It started out good, and then i realized the meat was extremely dried out.. Lots of things to like about this place: the baklava is the best, so fresh! The baklava has a slight anise flavor which I've never tasted in others' baklava, and I found this to be a wonderful new recipe. Also, great menu and nice outdoor dining. And the TV inside was showing an interesting documentary on President FD Roosevelt, which was a refreshing change from most places having sports TV blaring. Gave a classier feel to a very casual eatery. Friendly, warm, and eager-to-please staff, but I wish the woman kept her hair pulled back and out-of-the-way. Lighting was a bit too bright and it wasn't a place you'd want to linger in for a long meal, but with such low priced dinners, eating outside made it a lovely dinner for me. Season's Pizza has better seasoning in their Greek gyros, and better pita bread. Falafel House has good Lamb, though the seasoning seemed too much, but I know shwarmas are meant to be more heavily seasoned. I guess I just prefer Greek gyros' more mild or I would say subtle flavors. And Falafel House pita bread, which I asked to be sure, was as flatter than a tortilla, so again, I was expecting a softer, doughier pita. Perhaps I'm just becoming more vegetarian again. I will try Falafel house again, but probably only to try the kabobs and ganoosh. read more

This place made me want to write a review and that never happens. Falafel house is exactly what baltimore needs and is lacking: good middle eastern food. The only complaint that I have is that it's not in the city so I can't eat here weekly. We had the lamb shawarma wrap and the humus. The portions were really large and I took half of my sandwich home. The lamb was really well seasoned and tender and the toppings were all fresh and looked amazing. The humus was fantastic and tasted so fresh. They even gave us extra pita bread without having to ask. The owner was super friendly and offered some baklava on the house for us to try which was really good. He said that he makes his own baklava and it was fantastic. I will definitely be back and can't wait to try the chicken shawarma and falafel. read more

I was in the mood for Middle Eastern food. My shuttle driver recommended the Falafel House, and I am so glad he did! I ordered the falafel platter, which came with a free bowl of soup--tasty lentil soup. The falafel was served on a bed of seasoned rice, with a side of salad, delicious hummus, pita, and two sauces--I loved the tahini sauce and the other sauce was a bit too hot for me. The generous portion left me with some leftovers. Ordered a hummus and pita and baklava to go to round out my meal while I fly home. Decor was nothing to write home about, but the food and the service were fantastic. The owner was friendly. While I was there a number of people came to pick-up orders or to dine-in, she was friendly with all, remembering that one customer had a son, remembering what another family had ordered the last time they were in. This to me is good customer service, which can make or break a place. Her service is a definite "make it". I would eat here again. read more

I spent considerable time in the Middle East and it has been so difficult finding a good falafel/schwarrma spot stateside. This place is damn close! From the well-spiced spit of lamb dripping with flavor to the smooth authentic hummus, everything is fresh and tasty. Unlike the typical dry, brown, flavorless balls which are falsely peddled as falafel, here they were crispy on the outside while moist and flavorful on the inside and visibly green from the fresh herbs. The addition of sumac as garnish to the sides and fries added a nice touch of authenticity and another subtle level of flavor. Decor was warm, service was friendly, and prices reasonable. Very glad to see a true falafel house in the area and hope they are in business for a long time! read more
