This is an update to my first review. After several emails and a little more time then I had to spare I did receive a full refund and was not required to return the product that was shipped to me. The refund was the correct action for the company to take, but I would have ben happier to have received the product that I ordered. I place an on line order for 3 sheets of 3/8" x 2' x4' plywood. The package arrived quickly, but they shipped the wrong product. I received 10mm x 2'x4' sheets. They are actually .470" almost 1/2". The shipping label has my correct order on it, but each sheet is clearly marked 10mm. I have sent several emails asking how they will resolve the issue and always get the same answer "we're looking in to it". I did not order 10mm thick boards, I ordered 3/8" and now I'm stuck with product I do not need. read more

I love a family, local hardware store. They are far and few between now as mostly it's big chains and big box stores. We needed some patch repair for a spot in our porcelain bathtub. We've been looking for the right color to match. So we decided to walk over from our hotel and check them out. We wandered a bit inside. It reminded me of the hardware stores I grew up with in Connecticut. I finally went and asked at the check out desk where to find what we needed. Unfortunately, they were out of our desired product. But we had a nice -- and funny -- discussion about it. The guy forgot to reorder this item since his computer system "upgraded" and no longer keeps track of stock shortages or sales. Naturally, he blamed the "girls" in the family for not reminding him to reorder - which they now have to do the old way, that is "by hand". Of course, the "girls" said, he thinks he's being funny... Even though we left empty handed, I'd recommend this store if in the area. read more

Do we want to buy things from the big box stores and the Internet shippers, or do we want to encourage the smaller non-chain shops and restaurants. So yes, even though Family Hardware costs more, I still buy stuff there. Two stops this time. I needed a few bits to help my Mom with some stuff in her new apartment and so I ended up in FH twice because I'm forgetful. The store is densely packed but well organized. Not just hardware stuff, they also have beach things and automotive stuff and cleaning things. Each aisle has a label and they're easy to read. We had a steady stream of water leaking from our kids bathtub faucet. We were struggling to remove the old cartridge, since it was corroded and stuck in there really well. I went to Family Hardware, per recommendations from my family friend. When you walk in, the front counter for checkout is there. Cindy and another gal were working the registers with customers, and still welcomed me with smiles. I went to the plumbing section, and while browsing, Steve came up and asked if he could assist me. I told him the troubles I had, thinking I was going to purchase a removal tool, then return with the old cartridge.. Low and behold, Steve recommended that I borrow THEIR removal tool! All I had to do was give them my information and put a $5 refundable deposit down. They handed me the tool in a Tupperware case, and off I went! The tool was SO handy to get that tricky cartridge out. I went back to Family Hardware with their tool and the old cartridge. I returned the tool, and showed Steve the old cartridge. Steve helped confirm that I needed the Moen 1222 cartridge, and grabbed me one. Just to note, it had to have been returned previously. I could tell because the plastic casing was cut, and it had a piece of clear duct tape holding it together. It was also missing the lubricant. Upon bringing it home, I struggled to get it in the pipe. Once it was in, and the faucet reassembled, there was no change, and the leak was still there :(. So, I went back to the store and replaced that replacement. This new item was brand new, unopened, and had lubricant in it. This visit to the store, I noticed another female worker actively peeking down each aisle, asking each customer if she could assist them in any way. She was smiling each time, and then assisted at the checkout counter. Not a single employee was a pushy salesman. They were all genuinely interested in helping. I went home to install this replacement, and this new one slid in with such each, and sure enough, didn't leak anymore!! Steve was SO HELPFUL, as well as Cindy at the counter, and another gentleman that assisted me. We very much appreciate his help, as we were getting very disheartened about the seemingly easy fix. We signed up for their rewards program and will definitely utilize them over big box stores like HD as much as possible. They were all so kind, helpful and KNOWLEDGEABLE. read more

I was searching for a cart suitable for my large Big Green Egg, when we stumbled upon a listing for the Wellspring cart on the Family Hardware website. The price seemed good (Big Green Egg wanted substantially more for their branded cart). Since I live about 3,000 miles away, I contacted Wellspring to inquire about west coast dealers. They didn't have any. So, I spoke to Jeremy about the details of this cart, and the fact that he would ship it to California for no additional charge. I received the cart in a reasonable amount of time (they are made to order). I was not disappointed! A well made cart at a good price. Had searched for a reasonably well made cart for my L Big Green Egg found that Family Hardware had one (Wellspring) Called on a Sunday and Jeremy answered the call. Had a number of questions which he was able to answer. Was able to order the cart in color and option I wanted. The only reason I have not given 5 stars is that i was promised delivery in 2 weeks. While I understand that it is built to order and there may be a slight delay. It took nearly 5 weeks. NO FAULT of Jeremy's The cart was finally shipped and the shipping company was awesome. Family Hardware is all about customer service, a commodity that has eroded in the retail trade world. I shopped there over the weekend looking for a bolt that supported the arm rest on my wheelchair; an oddball left turn, metric, etc. that the wheelchair manufacturer would not sell unless I purchased the entire arm rest at a significant cost. From the moment I entered the store, Cindy and other employees went to work on my issue. After a couple of trips to the store and several hours of their time, my wheelchair was repaired using the broken bolt. Ingenuity at its best. My cost for their time and parts was 43 cents. At all times, the staff was engaging, supportive and confident. Family Hardware is now my store. I sent 5 blades to Family Hardware, thinking I didn't have too much to lose...the blades had past the point of effective use, and if this worked, would be less than buying 2 new blades (one for miter saw, one for my table saw). Family Hardware kept me up to date on the progress of their work, and in less than 2 weeks from shipping (which they paid for in both directions) I received my blades back, well packed and with a protective wax coating. I first used my 100 tooth diablo on my miter saw on some 3/4" plywood. It cut like butter! Can't wait to fire up the table saw! Thanks for the awesome job!! read more

Online order review: I was searching for Champion automatic sprinkler actuators and found the best price, by far, at Family Hardware. It was about $10 cheaper for each here than anywhere else on the Internet with free shipping as a bonus. (My order was over $100) I found that the Web site security certificate was not "fully secure" but I placed the order anyway. I received an email titled "Your Family Hardware order has been received!" with a summary of the order. Then I heard nothing more till I received the order about a week later in California. Jeremy, I would like to thank you for stepping up to help me with my defective Challenger Torch Grill Cart top. Although I did not purchase the Cart and XL Big Green Egg from you, you picked up the phone on the weekend when I was in need of support to remove the defective top. I purchased the Challenger Torch Cart from Hall Hardware in West Palm Beach and as I mentioned, I was totally disappointed in their sense of urgency to assist me. The only advice I was given was it's easy with only 4 screws to remove. I spent an enormous number of hours attempting to remove the defective top as well as I contacted Challenger directly. It appears the Cart has some sort of adhesive lining which made it impossible to remove the defective top. You mentioned that you could not guarantee anything, however you reached out to the local rep who is on vacation for a month (no help there). The only thing you asked for was a positive review on Yelp...here you go! My motto is "Once a Customer, always a Customer". I guess when you purchase a Challenger Grill Cart and an XL Big Green Egg (approxx. value of $5k) the attitude is another sale and another widget off the assembly line. In an effort to fix a plumbing problem at one of our condos, I went to a "Big Box" retailer looking for parts. They tried to help find the proper part but could not do so. I then tried Family Hardware on Tuesday May 2nd, 2017. I once again brought in all of the parts from our bathtub that needed replacement. Marcella politely offered to assist me and then went about searching their inventory. Dionne, who I later realized was the owner, also came out of her office to assist us. We were able to get all of the parts we needed plus plenty of installation advice in a friendly, courteous manner. How were the prices? Frankly, I don't know how they compared to the "Big Box" retailers and I don't care. They solved my problem in one visit and gave me great advice. It was more than worth it to me. When I came back a few days later, a very mean woman at the register said I could not exchange it for the right paint since I had lost my receipt.
