wonderful new pizza shop right near prospect park. i had passed by this place a few times and finally decided it was time to try it. they have a lot of specialty pizzas that looked absolutely delicious, and i honestly had a hard time deciding what to get because everything looked so good. i ended up going with the buffalo chicken slice, and it was definitely above average compared to other buffalo chicken slices i've tried. it had a great thin crust with the perfect amount of buffalo and ranch flavor without being overwhelming, and it was topped with a lot of chicken. i really enjoyed it, especially heated up fresh for me. the prices were reasonable too, i think this slice was around five dollars, and it was pretty big. We ate our pizza there and the temperature inside was obnoxiously warm. They even plugged my phone in behind the counter for me (I had my charger with me) as it was about to die and I needed it to navigate myself back home. As for the pizza, it was good! This pizza won't make it to any of the highly publicized "Best of New York Pizza" lists because it lacks the amount of fanfare. It's a neighborhood pizza joint churning out great pizza for the locals. Brooklyn style pizza is known for its size, larger slices that are meant to be consumed by folding in half with one hand. Additional characteristics include a generous amount of cheese and thin chewy crust. Family pizza does all of the above while having a robust sauce with actual basil. As a longtime resident, it wasn't my go-to pizza spot as a child but it sure is now! Their pizza is delicious but don't forget about their pepperoni rolls, mozzarella sticks and garlic knots. Delicious pizza and even nicer owners!! First of all, the pizzas are HUGE. Two pieces had be absolutely stuffed! We got half Margherita, half veggie. The Margherita was excellent--just what I needed. My friends are also vegetarian, so they've had their fair share of veggie pizzas. They said this was one of the most well-done, robust veggie pizzas they've ever had. The pizza dough/crust was also so soft and chewy. We also got the garlic knots, which were a bit disappointing. There was way too much garlic. They serve an excellent version of a classic New York slice, one that's sturdy enough to eat with one hand without it flopping over, and with a crust so tasty you eat every last bite of it. The ratio of cheese to sauce to bread was ideal, and in true New York form, I covered mine in oregano, chili flakes, and garlic powder. They have a little window you can order and pay at without even stepping inside, so they have a set up ideal for pandemic times. Love love love this place. After my slice of sausage pizza, I told the guy "This was really good" and he replied "You got good taste" Hah, love it. The garlic knots were 4 for $1!! Being just 1 person, I couldn't make the room to eat 4 so the lady was nice enough to sell me 2 for .50 cents. I couldn't believe how cheap it was!! Back in the Bay Area, I would have been easily charged $7+ for 4 garlic knots. They were good and full of flavor. The pizza itself had a crispy crust which I liked. I am biased. This pizza location is my childhood shop. We are talking about my first experience ever having pizza from maybe 6-7 years old. I remember the cheesy pizza stretching with each bite and the crust being crunchy. I have not been there for over 20 years and when I had that first bite, I became a child once again. They didn't take card ( cash only establishment) which is perfectly fine because that's what I've always remembered. But for everyone else I can see that being an issue. The slices are massive and for a guy like me, it is perfect! I don't know when I will return again, as I don't live anywhere close to this shop. Also if I'm having some friends over for something casual or on a Friday night, it's a great place to order a couple of pies, they'll whip them up in 15 minutes tops. An old style pizza joint with brown laminate booths, red tile on the floor and friendly service, this place definitely wins as the place to go for a slice if you're in Lefferts Gardens. The absolute sweethearts that work here set this place apart. I was walking down Flatbush being like okay let me just try to get a little bit of a beverage on my way to the park. But I also hadn't had lunch so I was like okay let me grab a little slice while I'm here too. It's a normal pizza joint it's got a bunch of different veggie and meat options everything looks delicious. I eat all the above but I went for a broccoli and ricotta. I got a fruit punch to go with. First of all they actually heat up the pizza slice to where it's hot and a lot of places don't bother to wait that extra 45 seconds so thumbs up on that. Second of all the fruit punch was all fruit punch it wasn't a bunch of ice well a little bit of fruit punch in it so thumbs up on that as well. Third and most importantly the individual behind the counter with all the tattoos on their face was absolute kind-hearted soul. I will definitely come back to this pizza place because a lot of pizza places they just kind of grunt at you and they're rude and this individual made me feel very comfortable and welcome. One of the things I love about Brooklyn is that you can still find old school pizza joints complete with original owner. Love that. While I wanted to love their pizza, I mean who doesn't love the grandpa behind the counter, their slices just didn't do it for me. It lacked flavor and I found the sauce to be maybe a bit sweet? Wasn't the kind of flavorful pizza I'm used to. One good thing though is that the slices are big. I ordered two and could barely finish the second slice. Was so full. Who ever thinks this spot makes better pizza than 95% of the places in NYC is seriously lacking tastebuds. Trust me, I grew up in NYC and there are way better places out there. Just moved to New York, so don't hold me as an authority on "new york" pizza. But I know good food, and I love pizza, and know good pizza. The place seems to be run by an older couple, and they look a little tired... The service was normal (fine). The menu is perhaps lacking a bit of creativity (just the basics here, no whitestone, pesto, etc.). The pizza itself (just a cheese slice as it was my first visit) was good. Good flavor, cheese and sauce had no problems with flavor or freshness. The dough was ok, crispy, but perhaps a little too consistent, if that makes any sense. I like a few more bubbles in the bread here and there, a few pockets of extra crispyness, etc. That was lacking a bit. But not bad overall. read more
