We were craving BBQ and decided on Famous Dave's for take out and movie night for a Friday night. We ordered the All American BBQ Feast, normally $82 but only $69 on Fridays currently as a special promotion. I arrived a little after 6pm and ordered at the take out counter. The employee that took my order was courtesy and friendly. About 10 minutes later my order was ready. I took a quick look in the dining room and it was mostly full and busy with a lively vibe. The All American BBQ Feast includes a rack or ribs, a whole chicken, beef brisket, Wilber beans, coleslaw, corn on the Cobb, steak fries, corn bread. Everything tasted great, the brisket was tender and juicy, much better than last time hence the improved rating. Highly recommended for a delicious BBQ feast and great value! read more

I stopped in today due to rain and a desire for chili to really enjoy the cool. I ended up ordering the take 2 lunch which is the obligatory side salad (garden with ranch) plus the reason for the visit: chili. It's been a while since I've been here so I guess I shouldn't be surprised but it was very different than the last time I ordered chili here. First thing, the portion was very small. The picture showed a bowl, what I received was no better than a cup. I went back and looked at the menu and realized only later that they don't say bowl or cup, just include a misleading photo. That was disappointing because the whole reason for my visit was chili. Second, this was not the same chili I had here before, it didn't taste of smoke at all, despite the description including smoked meats. It tasted like a sweet tomato based soup rather than a smoked and spicy chili, I don't know when the recipe changed but it's mediocre at best and clearly meant for people who like sugary soup instead of an actual chili. This was not worth the calories ingested. I realize others might disagree but in chili, sweet should not dominate savory. I want pungent and spicy. And lastly, the table was sticky. Had to wash my forearms when I left. And the music was ridiculously loud. I put my noise canceling earbuds in because I needed relief. Next time i want chili it won't be here. read more

I always go to the location on Dobson in Mesa but this one was midway between my and my besties house so we went here. Around 3pm when we arrived it was calm we got a clean table and everyone from the hostess to the servers were wonderful. We left around 6 and they were very busy especially for a Wednesday. Some people like their spareribs falling off the bone. I prefer a firm, smokey & unsauced rib. That's what I got here and they are delicious! Wife got a $15 coupon on her email. We ordered the All American platter. A pile of those meaty ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. Generous portions of perfectly fried steak fries, beans, Cole slaw. 4 corn muffins, 4 corn halves. We've ordered from Dave's for many years. The food has always been consistent. Not any more. The "brisket" was inedible. It was definitely not brisket, but a gelatinous slice of very salty unidentifiable meat. No one in our group of 6 ate it. I used to like there beans, now they are overpowered with what tasted like nutmeg. Our order was supposed to feed 4-6 so I wrongly assumed there would be 6 corn cobs and 6 muffins. There were 4, so 2 of us did not get corn or a muffin. The description for the All American BBQ feast simple states "sweet corn and corn bread muffins. Served family-style for 4-6 people." Since it states there is enough for 6 people, I assumed everyone one get a little of everything. The rest of the meal was fine, and more than enough for our group. The service was prompt. This is one of those chains that is pretty consistent. The prices are really good and the food is pretty good too. We usually go to the famous Dave's in Mesa, and we're surprised that this famous Dave's in Chandler looks completely different. I really like the clean white farmhouse feel of this location. Even the chairs in the area we were sitting were really very farmhouse and very pretty. There was bar table made with a scooter - - very cute! Our server was very sweet and our food came out pretty quickly. Even though it was a weekend they had a lunch special which we all took advantage of. The price was right for quite a bit of food. We had a little of everything, and it was good, although the brisket was not as tender as it usually is. But the thing that was absolutely best where the rib tips. I didn't order any for myself, but after tasting hubby's, I made it my mind that that is exactly what I'd get next time. Famous Dave's has a pretty good lunch menu that's available daily 11am-4pm. My family stopped in on a Saturday around 2pm for a late lunch. We were seated right away and ordered the traditional wings double winger from the appetizer menu. From the lunch menu, I got the BBQ stuffed baked potato with BBQ pulled chicken and a side of broccoli. It comes with a corn muffin too, which is one of my favorite food items there. My family also got the baked potato with Georgia chopped pork, 1-meat lunch platter, and 2-meat lunch platter. The 2-meat platter is only $1.50 more than the 1-meat platter, but the meat portions are smaller. I enjoyed my meal and felt pretty content in terms of fullness, but others left a little hungry. Our waitress also disappeared for a while, so we had to ask another waiter to find her for us. I like that each table has a roll of paper towels, wet wipes, and different BBQ sauces to choose from. They also have TVs there if you want to watch a game with your meal. read more

Atmosphere - Visited on a quiet afternoon. Surprisingly was not busy. I always think they are packed. Food/drink: Sweet tea - Very sweet and delicious! Good tea flavor. Their regular tea also has a good tea flavor. Sometimes restaurants' tea can be weak and not taste like tea at all, but like plain water with sugar. Their lemonade is also sweet and not tart. Doesn't taste like chemicals either. Chopped pork - Dry. I needed to add the sweet and sassy sauce to it to liven it up. Beef Brisket - Softer than the pulled pork. More moist. I liked it a little better, but it also needed the sweet and sassy sauce to add more pizzazz. Cole slaw - Good, though I don't like celery. I think I could taste a faint hint of celery in it. May have been slightly better than the Mac and cheese. Mac and cheese - I like mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was light in flavor. Creamy and the noodles were soft. I would have liked them a little more al dente. Didn't see any jalapeño bits. Not a fan of jalapeño bits anyway. Beans - Good. Not too sweet. It had some meat in it. Salad - Good, tasted fresh. Liked the red cabbage bits and carrots. Do not like cucumbers. I like the St. Louis-Style Spare ribs the best. They are tender and juicy and full of flavor. One of the only things I should get there! Brownie - Simple. What one would expect. Soft in the middle. Chocolate chip Cookie - A little over cooked. Otherwise, what one would expect. Service - The service here was good. Parking - The restaurant was located inside of what I think was their own parking lot. No parking meters or parking structures. A parking structure with solar panels on top or trees would be nice. We stopped going to F Dave's after they closed the location closest to our old house in IL. Since moving to AZ, we have found a hard time finding a BBQ place that serves baby backs. Seems the choice in the Valley is spare ribs, which I dont like. So here we go with giving Dave's a shot. We have been to both Chandler and West Valley locations and both do a great job on the ribs. Aside from fries, which are solid, the rest of the sides leave a lot to be desired. The corn muffin I could probably eat by the dozen, so I am glad they only give one. The rest of the fam gets salads and stuff, which they deem as just "ok". Service is a hit or miss: Last visit it was good, the time before it was non-existent. Haven't been to Famous Dave's since we moved across the valley. We arrived at 11:45 on a summer Saturday. It seemed less than 1/3 full, so we were seated immediately and greeted quickly by our server. He offered to take drink orders and to answer any questions. We both ordered the two-meat lunch combo. My wife got the chopped pork and the jalapeño cheddar sausage, and with a Caesar salad for her side. I got the pork and the brisket, with fries for my side. I also added an iced tea for a total of $34.59 plus tip. Our lunches arrived in less than 10 mins. The portions were somewhat small but the flavors were there. Happy new year!! And that's what we did! We did a catered order for new years and filled our tummies with original ribs and that sassy sauce, red mashed potatoes, Mac n cheese, pickled onions and pickles, chicken, brisket, corn, and the fave corn bread! The meat was fall-off-the-bone for some pieces and then dried ends for the end pieces. The corn bread was nicely buttered. Brisket was juicy. Chicken was a whole piece but cut into main legs and thighs and breast. It was a good meal since I had not eaten bbq in a long long time! Minus one star for missing the extra mashed potatoes, pickled onions and bbq sauces and had to go back for it. Otherwise service was decent considering the long line for pick up. Ever since they have been bought out has gone down hill. Ordered pulled chicken sandwich. Was terrible. They used boiled thigh meat whole. Then they some sauce on it. Close the place down or get a new meat purveyor. Barely classifies as protein. They must be using suckling pigs instead of mature ones. Either their chef doesn't know how to cut ribs or they are cutting them in half to make the day stretch. Been coming here almost twenty years and sad to say may be coming to an end. Haven't been to Famous Dave's in awhile, but we're usually happy with it, so we decided to order takeout. I ordered a salad w/brisket as my meal. When I opened my box, our eyes all went wide because of how TINY it was. It only filled up about 1/3 of the container. It looked more Ike a side salad. And the cornbread was missing. I was left hungry and disappointed. On a good note, the brisket was delicious. However, it wasn't worth going back for with the small size of the meal and missing components, especially since it is not cheap! read more

We stopped by after a movie at the mall. Apparently they decided to change their look to "farmhouse chic". I'm from Indiana and am gonna just say Not my thing. So, food ... I don't want to give away the ending, but, I used to really like this place. My wife got the brisket sandwich, lean, and it was equally as fatty as the brisket in my 2-meat dinner. It appears Famous Daves has fallen to the "high price-low value" trend we've seen since COVID. I ordered the 3 meat meal for 25 bucks....I got two tiny pork-ribs, 3 slices of brisket and 10 or so beef tips...those were my three meats. We got mashed potatoes for our sides....and my wife and I left REALLY hungry! We won't be going back....just not enough food for the money! They are also, currently, understaffed. Great friendly service (Franny was our server but they all seemed friendly as well), didn't have to wait in line, and the food was excellent, but meat did come out cold (not a deal breaker for me). Meat was great, not the best BBQ sauce I've had, but nothing wrong with it. Fries are GOOD. Salad was excellent and bigger than expected. I'm too full to eat the corn bread muffin, so I don't know about that yet, lol. What I found bizarre.... why the bread under the bbq meat?
