Well, it's definite BBQ. I went on a weekday, there were very few people in the joint. Took us five minutes to get seated because the host was floating around not doing his job. Finally seated and the server was really nice, I ordered a beer and the half rack of ribs. The ribs were really good, my first one was cold for some reason, but the others weren't. Tried Famous Dave's some time last month and was largely disappointed. Since it was our first time there, we went for the feast for two, which came with half a slab of St. Louis-style spareribs, half a chicklen and Texas beef brisket, coleslaw, famous beans, wilbur beans, corn-on-the-cob, and corn bread. The only thing I liked was the beef brisket, the rest were so-so. Maybe I'll give it another chance. But I will most likely not pick this place as the go to spot for barbeque. read more

What a shit hole . Upon entering the establishment place looked like a dingy sports bar that hadn't been cleaned in years . Rude staff from the hostess with her facial piercings to the other one glued to her cell phone . We were sat down with no food menus just an onset of alcohol specials . We went here a while back with the wife on a Sunday early afternoon. I remember it being open and not that busy. I have been to other Famous Dave's and i am a fan! What set this place differently was the Sunday brunch they had. I believe it was 15 per person you got a bunch of wings, rib-lets and all the fun breakfast food including sausage and bacon that you could enjoy. Not a bad deal at all. I have been a long time customer of famous Dave's. I use to frequent both the ones in Brunswick and Hillsborough before they closed down. I haven't been to one in over a year. Unfortunately I was disappointed. The rib tips were terrible. Half of them were like Jerky the rest were edible my husband said the flavoring/ seasoning was the only thing that saved them. Chili was generic tasting like it came from a can which I'm sure it did. My chicken sandwich was decent. The salad I got was literally all the ends/stems of lettuce no one else wanted. Wasn't one actual leaf anywhere to be seen. I will admit the Buffalo wings were as good as ever, as was the corn bread. As far as service the young gentleman who waited on us was pleasant but my god was service slow. Never got a drink refill. We were in at 7pm and didn't leave until a few minutes before 9:00. Mind you we ordered as soon as we seen our waiter. That's two hours of waiting on regretful salad and rib tips. Every waiter in the place was apologizing for something at every table we heard it all around us. Poor guys. I'm not sure what the hold up was. It was not busy since capacity is limited. I have no earthly idea how this place is still open. This place is huge, it could seat everyone who lives in mountainside. But this place is consistently baron every night, there is no one, I repeated, NO ONE who eats here anymore, and for good reason. This place used to be pretty solid, good food, cool atmosphere, not overly expensive. Something however has gone horribly wrong. The food comes out cold or in most cases, the food doesn't even bother to be cooked. The amount of times we have ordered a meal that has just not been cooked is ridiculous. The staff are just not interested, they never come to see how you're doing, they never come to offer more drinks, its appalling. This place went downhill faster than a fat guy rolling down a hill. On this visit, a Monday night the place was dead. Three other tables in use. The wait staff was bored and unenthusiastic. That said, they had hours of dull work with minimal hope for heavy tips ahead of them. The meal- First off they had no pork. Its a BBQ place. No ribs?!? No Pork?!? Insane. Of course we don't get informed of this fact until well after we have drinks and an appetizer. The service was slow, and this is a big problem considering how empty and over staffed it was. The food avergae. It was generic but not horrible, hence the three stars. Their sauce assortment is diverse yet narrow. There is not a lot of flavor diversity in the sauces, although they have many catchy names. Over all it is a mediocre place, but if you want BBQ at a bigger establishment in NJ this is it. read more

After standing at the hostess desk for about 7 minutes with no Hostess insight... After sitting at the table for 11 minutes without any server coming over... After going to the bar to place my order (as I had been instructed I could do)i was met by a very curt bartender. It was so bad I decided to leave. In my experience, food from Famous Dave is the same no matter where you are, so I'm not reviewing that since I've enjoyed it everywhere I've been. The staff here is competent and I can't recall any glaring issues (which is good for a national chain, in my opinion). The place is huge and I've never had to wait for a table, even when I've had groups of 6 or more. Also, the parking lot is large and easily accessible from Route 22. I always make sure my meal has the fries and a some chicken tenders to dip in the melange of sauces. By far my favorite part! read more

DIRTY! DIRTY! DIRTY! At the entrance way there are two planters for cigarette disposal (that in itself is gross) that were completely over flowing with trash. This is what every guest first sees when they walk into the place! The bathrooms were nasty and I saw a waiter in there texting while standing in the corner obviously avoiding the manger which doesn't seem like a hard thing to do there. Everything about the place just seemed dirty and worn out. The food was totally mediocre and institutionalized. I will not come back! We had a boxed lunch catered for 58 employees for Staff Appreciation Day and they delivered on time and there were no mistakes, and no one complained about the food! We usually have a buffet style lunch, but due to Covid restrictions, we looked for a box lunch and Dave's delivered. The worst service in the history of restaurants. Restaurant was over half empty and they told us 15-30 minute wait. After 45 minutes of waiting we left without being seated. What a horrible horrible experience picking up food today at the Mountainside store. First off curbside pick up was inside the store where people were too close together. The woman and man working the counter did not have masks and when the woman was asked why she wasn't wearing a mask she said that she had a strong immune system. How ignorant. There was one guy waiting without a mask but he was not told to leave or wait outside. Well it ended with me leaving without my order s because they said that they never received them. We went here on a recommendation, and were very disappointed. The food was just "OK", but the service was terrible...at least from the server assigned to our table. Food: Had to add bbq sauce to really get the taste of bbq, rather than the food being marinated in it. The side dishes were very plain, and not very good. The corn on the cob was soggy. The green beans looked like they came from a can, and had no flavor. Service: This is where things really fell down. Our server initially brought us soft drinks, but did not provide straws...and disappeared for several minutes before we could ask for them. By itself, not a big deal. Then, she brought my wife and me salads. My wife's was delivered with the dressing she ordered. Mine was not...delivered with no dressing. By the time we noticed, the server had again disappeared for several minutes. When she came back, and we mentioned that the dressing was missing, she said she would get it right away. What did she do? Walked over to the next table and took their order for 4 people, rather than going to get the dressing. How hard would it be to go back to the kitchen and get the dressing which you forgot to deliver, and then get another table's order. Instead, my wife sat there with her salad, waiting for me to be served dressing, which took well over five minutes after the salad was provided. Three strikes and you are out!!...delivered the wrong sides initially with my meal (and of course, disappeared quickly again). When she did come back, she realized that I had ordered something different....perhaps if she had written our order down instead of trying to memorize it, things would have been better. On the good side, she was very friendly, and other servers were helpful in our getting her to come back to our table. We did write some comments on the check, politely, hoping she can learn from her mistakes. But, it gave us such a negative experience that we will not be returning to this or any other of their properties. read more

Five of us drove here for the Monday $4 burger special that they offer. When we ordered at the take out area, we were charged $11 for each burger. Since we ordered quite a few other items, we didn't pay attention to the receipt. Once we realized that we were charged for a 'Build Your Own Burger' instead of for the $4 burger we brought it to their attention. The man that took our order simply stated that we should have mentioned the $4 burger. This should be something that they mention to you or advertise better. Most restaurants mention their specials when you're ordering. This was a little slipshod and annoying since we've been there before on a Monday and each time, they asked if we wanted the special. And even with the extra toppings, we were overcharged about $5 per burger. Make sure to mention specifically the specials since not everyone there will bring them up to you. We ordered the a Double Q Package with pulled Pork and Chicken w/ Cole Slaw and Potato Salad. The food came right on time, with a very friendly staff. Famous Dave's is my favorite chain bbq restaurant in the world. When we moved to the area, me and my wife were beyond excited to have a restaurant close by. At this point, we have visited the Mountainside restaurant about 10 times and have given up. Every single time something gets screwed up bigtime. Either we are seated and then ignored by the staff for 30 minutes until we walk up to a waitress and ask if someone is going to serve us, orders get delivered to the table entirely wrong, orders take over an hour to be served, one person of a party of 6 receives his food after everyone else is done eating, a waitress delivers the food and disappears so we never get a refill on sodas or another beer... I can go on. At one point I asked to talk to the managerwho offered us to eat free the next time as an apology. The next time we came in to use the gift card was even more catastrophic than before. It took 25 minutes before we were greeted and our drink order was taken. The food was cold and, even though instructed by the manager that we would only be paying for drinks, the waitress gave us the full bill. We walked out without paying anything. It's a huge shame because the food really is heavenly. The Mountainside staff just keeps dropping the ball spectacularly. We've been driving out to the Edison restaurant for the past few months and the experiences there have been nothing short of perfect. It's just silly that we have to travel 20 minutes to Edison when we have a restaurant a few miles from our house. read more

This is only for my take out experience and this was my first time (likely last) there. Me and my family was out and got home late. We want BBQ and the nearest place still open was Famous Dave's. Got there at 9:20pm ish; the take out guy (forgot his name) was picking his nose and scratch his you know what which turn me off immediately. I asked question he responsed like he don't care and kept looking away and talked to his kitchen co-worker. I put in order at 9:28pm and not got My food until 9:56pm!!! It was late and the restaurant was not even half full; and it's BBQ food where all the meats were supposed to be smoked already so how in the world could they take half hour to prepare?? Oh the customer next to me he been waiting since I was there and his food was ready before mine but no one called his name until he asked and the take out guy was like " oh right your food were ready" and that food was literally sitting behind him the whole time. When mine came out I saw the bag (only bag on the shelf) and of course the take out guy wasn't notices! I asked him and then he check and said " yep this got your name on it" and he ask if I want any sauce since its my first time there I asked what kind, "is it BBQ or you have something like honey mustards?" He then just thrown a whole bunch of BBQ sauce packs in my bag; not a word otherwise. When I got home it was so late and and my family already cooked something else to eat! The food wasnt bad but the new BBQ join near by (one I wanted to go but was closed at that time) was better. Again this likely my last time there. read more

If I could rate this correctly I would NOT give them any stars!! The Staff was very unprofessional with the exception of Stephiane and another bartender. The Glasses at the bar were filthy, and the bar top was full of dirty drink glasses. The food was not cooked properly with the exception of the muffin. The side dishes I ordered were extremely cold as if the were left out prior to my Meat being prepared. Let not talk about management and how it was not present at all. I just took my family there to celebrate my daughter's birthday. The waitress came with her dessert without a candle and said she could not get anybody on the staff to sing Happy Birthday.
