We always get a great meal at Famous Daves's. Their pulled pork is delicious, and we love the Wilbur beans, coleslaw and cornbread, as well as the corn on the cob. One star off because the Beef Brisket was not very good. I won't order it again here. Sauces are good and I actually like the old fashioned hunting/fishing cabin decor. I think it is cute and homey. My brisket didn't even look like brisket. It was greasy, tiny chunks of low quality meat and salty. The orange mystery dressing that came with my salad with "brisket" on top was gross. Not a fan of BBQ chain restaurants much and Famous Dave's is no exception. Not sure their style (definitely not Memphis nor Kansas City) because the brisket was dry, the sauces very ordinary and the sides too simple. The salad dressings are either creamy or creamy based (so no Italian or vinaigrette options) and the baked potatoes were only partially baked (so a little on the firm side). The decor in the dining room is slightly tired and outdated (think 1970's old west) and the restroom was not stocked well (no hand soap means the wait staff are using Lord knows what to clean their hands). The food is average at the very best. They had no coleslaw - terrible. They gave us mashed potatoes with fries - bad. They gave no bbq sauce on a to go order - awful! The food quality has gone downhill at this location. I would say the ribs and brisket are low grade. The chicken and pulled pork are good I guess. The portions are not at all generous. Went here on 3/2/25. Haven't been to a Famous Dave's since 2017. There is absolutely better bbq and bbq sauces out there. But I've always thought the food I has been good. Our waitress was wonderful today. Unfortunately I forgot her name, but we got there right when they opened and she was the only waitress at the time. Very attentive! Kept my drinks filled! I was visiting family, and we wanted to save the effort of needing to cook another meal and chose famous Dave's barbecue. We've had famous Dave's in the past as takeout and dine in and had decent results. However, our most recent experience was far from that. We spent over $150 on food and only half of it was edible. We had two sets of baby back ribs, barbecue, chicken, and brisket. The brisket was so overcooked it was an edible. The ribs were so overcooked that they were not enjoyable to eat. The chicken was reasonable. It's unfortunate because this was a takeout order and there was no way we were gonna drive back to complain about the food quality. Had we've been dining in. we certainly would've sent the food back and asked for a refund. in my opinion, and I expect many others as well, the quality of the food at takeout should be just as good as the quality of the food that's being served dine in. When that doesn't happen, it feels like the folks that are getting the takeout are receiving substandard food or the "leftovers". read more

This was the worse experience I've ever had at a restaurant... We had a large group. The waiter took our order, took at least 20 minutes to report back to us they were out of half the meats.. our only option was ribs, burgers and chicken. After fixing all of our orders, the food came in a decent time, but every burger was COMPLETELY raw!!! So raw that the meat was purple in color. Don't bother ordering curbside pickup - no one is going to bring your food out to you. Have ordered pickup a few times recently and there were missing items or skimpy serving sizes EVERY SINGLE TIME. Check your order before leaving, but be warned that you will get dirty looks from the man who I believe is a manager there (didn't catch his name). Items were also packed horribly with the food all mixed together rather than separated into different containers for different items. Who would place a cornbread muffin topside down on top of a pile of sauced up meat? I guess Famous Dave's figures it's all going to your stomach so why bother having things be presentable? This place went down hill past decade. We went into order famous feast for 2, and it was just going downhill starting serving our drinks. Our server was Theresa P, and she was horrible. NO REFILLS of any water or beverages ENTIRE SHIFT!!!!!! We had to ask another server at the kitchen to get our drinks filled. She will not checkup on us, but she was spending astronomical time on the other table. I assume the server Theresa P know them in person?? Food was horrible. Great atmosphere throughout the restaurant; felt like being inside of a log-cabin hunting lodge. Great service; friendly and took good care of us from beginning to end. Mostly-great food; my wife raved about her catfish strips, I loved my jalapeno sausage, and we agreed the cornbread muffins were delicious. We thought the Sweet & Zesty and Devil's Spit BBQ sauces were both good. Not great at all: the brisket. Though I did my best to cut away the fat, the part I did eat was rubbery and absolutely, positively not worth paying extra to get vs. the other meats. My wife got it too and was similarly unimpressed. We likely will go to Famous Dave's again, but sure as heck won't be ordering brisket. read more

We went to this location on a Sunday afternoon for a birthday celebration. We had never been to this location, but have been to the Estes Park location many times over the years and have always had great service and great ribs and other food.This experience was very different. The restaurant wasn't overly crowded, as we went around 4:30. A bad omen of what we would encounter was a pet peeve of mine, having worked in food and beverage industry for some 20 years, waiting for over 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us after we were seated. We ordered a combo platter with ribs and the platter arrived with NO ribs. When we told the bus person, because our waitress was nowhere to be found, he said that he would take care of it, which he never did. When the waitress finally brought the ribs I was only able to get 3 small pieces of tough meat off the ribs. When I spoke to management they did take $10 off of the charges. The waitress did say that they have had multiple complaints about the ribs. Not a good sign of a "barbecue" restaurant, supposedly "famous " for its ribs. We will continue to dine at the Estes Park location, but probably not return to the Thornton restaurant! read more

Famous Daves WAS a very popular restaurant. You could almost always plan on a wait, well not any more. Our last experience wasn't great but it was a while ago. We thought we'd give FD another try....big mistake. We ordered fried pickles, usually a pretty easy item to prepare. They tasted like fish. As if they had been fried in a vat with fish or cooked in left over fish oil. Gross. My entree was supposed to be country chicken (dark meat). I received a tiny breast which was burnt, the wing was charred black. You can just imagine how dry the chicken was. I was a little shocked that the server would serve it. The fries were cold. I don't know what Famous Dave's is famous for, it's certainly NOT good food. There are so many other wonderful choices in this area. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere. read more

From the time that we sat to the time that we left, it took an hour and a half. An hour of that was waiting to get our food. We were promised muffins for our two toddlers while we waited and those were never brought. The food that did come out was sub par at best. Then when we went to pay, I paid with a gift card and didn't think about how I'd leave tip. So after we paid I walked up to the front desk to ask if I could run a to go drink on my card so that us could leave tip. Que another 20 minute wait. And then I didn't even get the Togo drink that I paid for because they didn't have Togo cups. A complete and utter joke. Famous Dave's has solid bbq. I like their brisket and their rib tips. Idk if they still do it, but they had either Tuesday or Thursday nights that had unlimited burnt ends or rib tips. UPDATE: Since my last review, a family member ordered a chicken breast at Dave's, just to see if she had the same experience. She said she got the traditional chicken breast and it was delicious. She asked her server about it and she couldn't say what why we were served substandard chicken breasts. I don't know if they ran out that night and substituted with something else, or changed back to the original chicken breasts, but we will definitely go back and try again, and hopefully, that was just a one time mishap! read more

Famous Dave's Is my Favorite. I go with family (usually 5+). It almost like a little cabin when you first walk in. The alcoholic drinks are very good and strong. The Family Platter, is our favorite!! We ALWAYS have yummy left overs for the best day. Their sauce is a Must when you pick up To -Go. Did I mention the portions get bigger! It's a BANG for your buck. I made the mistake of eating here at 6:45 pm on the 20th of November. I ordered the burnt ends platter. What a mistake! I received a cup of chopped meat. It was cold and so was the rest of the meal. No ends, just cold chopped squares. Beans, potatoes and corn bread-all cold!! $50 and it was junk. My wife got pulled pork and yes it was cold. The entire meal was terrible. We will NEVER go back to that place again. I complained to the waitress and she didn't know what burnt ends were. Never again!!! read more

I have eaten In this Famous Dave Thornton location before and last night I had six people in the house to watch the football game and we had a discussion because they wanted G-Que and I insisted on ordering the food from Famous Dave.. OMG I am still ashamed! We ordered two feast for two about 95$ and we could not eat the ribs, they were horrible and the pull pork was dry. We ended up buying more food from G-Que. We came here for date night last night. I've never been here before and really liked the vibe and atmosphere. I ordered the 2 meat plate with brisket, catfish, corn, and garlic mashed potatoes. Everything was AMAZING!! The brisket was soo tender and soft, the catfish was seasoned really well and the sauce that it came with was delicious. The garlic mashed potatoes were perfect, and the corn was juicy, but pretty plain and flavorless. It also came with a small cornbread muffin that was good too. I think there could have been opportunity to move us and others around us to another table in the pretty empty restaurant. Now, let's talk food: HAIR! A short wavy white hair in my husband's jalapeno sausage. We were kind of done at that point. We are both KCBS certified judges and have a clear appreciation for quality of barbecue meats. The Pick Three plate ordered tonight missed the mark for taste, texture and freshness. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants. The limited menu is a let down. We won't be returning.
