The inventory is organized by style (e.g., boots, sandals, high heels, athletic shoes) and the shoes are on the floor so you can find your own size. They have a small sale section. I don't think you'll find anything unusual or that you "have to have" but the styles seem current. I've become quite the bargain shopper of late and while Famous Footwear isn't the cheapest store in town, if you play your cards right you can still catch a deal. First of all get the rewards card, I know what your thinking, it's a hassle, it's a waste of time and so on and so on... Listen I'm the master of procrastination and excuses and I'm telling you now, by signing up you'll eventually reap the rewards. Second of all, if you have a smartphone download the app , you've got the use of your card right on your phone so you don't need to carry around an extra card. This store is spacious & clean and I've gone in at different times of the day and always been greeted, I'm however one of those rare birds that likes to shop in peace and not be hounded to buy shoes, so the fact that they leave me to my shoe shopping wiles pleases me. This is my to go shoe shopping store. They have tons o selections and always seem to have some sort of deal. Right now they have "the buy one get second for half price" perfect for back to school shopping. Get the app and get your points. Every time you spend, you get points which can be redeemed at the store ( think 5,10 or 29 bucks off your next purchase). The only down side is their wifi. It sucks, so I always have to wait what seems forever for the app to open. The store manager gets major kudos for patiently helping me (because my app wasn't opening and I wanted to redeem my $10 off plus add points to my gold status -haha). He got someone on the phone and took care of the problem. It took him a while but was so polite and patient the whole time. Kudos to my almost teen for waiting along side me patiently too! read more

I really like this place, and do a lot of online shopping at the site. Online does not work if you need something in a couple of days. So that's when I usually go to the store in Ventura. I like to shop without being asked ten times if I need help or have any questions. If I need something I'll come and find you. Everything is pretty hands-on and easy to get. Here's where it all goes bad... The checkout, The managers need a training class on how to treat people that spend money there. It's called JOB SECURITY. I never approach the register until I am asked, I wait in line until the checker is ready for my transaction. The Male Indian Manager is the rudest person there. I'm standing there waiting my turn, he is just staring at me. I'm staring back, thinking he'll say something. No, he puts his hands up in a "what the heck" kinda motion. When I put my shoes on the counter he says What are you waiting for? I say I was waiting for you to communicate with me using your voice, cause that's what most civilized people do. He mumbled something, I asked him to repeat what he said. He ignored me through the rest of the transaction. When I asked a question he would only gesture. Like, Can you scan my membership card? He scans it and does not hand it back, flips it on the counter. I asked, Do you take the Military Discount? He gestures that he needs to see proof. I show him, without letting him touch my identification, he rolls his eyes. All I could do was laugh at him and assure him that I will be Yelping HIM. He seemed confused. I waited a couple of days before the Yelp, because I feel that a Yelp is more appreciated when your calm. read more

I feel I must share the incredible shopping experience I had at this store. In all my 40 years I have never had a store manager (Teresa) so sincerely want to help me and make my experience in her store such a good one. It started when I purchased 6 pairs of shoes and needed to return some. The assistant manager Richard nearly had a melt down. He got all flustered and kept saying out loud "I need to think". He actually appeared mentally challenged. I was rather surprised he had been given the responsibility of assistant manager. So the next day I went in the return one more pair. At this time Teresa THE store manager helped me. There was much confusion about the amount of money I was getting back. It didn't sound right, but she explained that it is strange the way the store does "BOGO" returns. I got to my car with 2 long receipts in hand and just couldn't accept that I wasn't getting all my money back. So back In the store I went. I had already been in there for 45 minutes before, but I didn't care. I wanted a better explanation to their returns policy. Teresa was so calm and very kindly started breaking down how it works. Then suddenly she realized that Richard from the day before royally F***** up my refund. By the end of it all, I walked out with $98.00. Which I wouldn't have gotten if I hadn't taken the time to go back in. Teresa was so sincerely sorry. She wasn't blowing smoke up my butt either. She really was worried about me coming back in the future. I did in fact return 2 days later to take advantage of a new "BOGO" sale and she greeted me with a hug and went out of her way to help me with my purchase. These days managers are pushed by the all mighty corporate dollar. Teresa obviously is very business oriented but her customer care is absolutely outstanding. Rude associate. Prior to going in store I called to ask if they had a shoe I was looking for in stock I was told "yes we have that here." When I arrived to the store it was very easy to browse, I am new to this area so I thought it was perfect to have found a nearby shoe store. While in the store I did not find the shoe I was looking for. An associate asked if I needed help and I asked if they possibly had the shoe in a different area I tell her I called and they had told me they did. She tells me " what they have online it'll be online" I tell her it's fine if they do t have them, she pauses and then says " yeah I just don't see how someone could see something online and expect to have in store." At this point I'm confused because I never mentioned anything about online, I didn't understand why she's giving me attitude and she just looked irritated to the point where I'm uncomfortable. I once again tell her that's what I was told as I am walking out and she continues to say something under her breath. Nonetheless I won't ever be shopping for myself or anyone in my family here. I don't think this is a traditional chain, like Macys or Nordstrom. But I did purchase shoes in one location, came to this location to exchange for a better size. Here is the strange part the same exact shoe at 2 different locations a $17 difference in price. This caught the asst. Managers eye...wow they are $40 at the other store. She then asked if I wanted another shoe...No just an even exchange. Now the kicker, I had to pay the tax difference, what??? Never has this happened at a store. Macys from Thousand oaks to Topanga or even Ventura... But here at famous footwear the tax difference must be paid..Well I hope they are happy with the extra .17 cents for the shoe. But I will not support shady business practices. The price difference from store to store was questionable enough. read more

I actually liked the slippers I ordered from them but they inundated me with advertising junk emails after that. At least once a day and sometimes two a day. I tried "unsubscribe" at the bottom of the email. Did not work the couple of times I tried. So I sent them an email requesting I be removed. Received a response from Nicole (2/12/21) saying she would do that but that it could take 10 days. Sent them another email requesting to be taken off their list. Got a response from Daniel (2/22/21) saying he would do that but it might take 10 days. So realizing they weren't going to do it and they were just trying to stall 'til it was too late, I decided to return the slippers. Went to a local store and they couldn't find the purchase using my email address. Funny since I had just received another email from them that morning (2/29/21). Went back home and got my email receipt that had the bar code on it to return an item. Took that back to the store and she tried to scan it. It wouldn't pull up the order. She tried to pull up the order using my email address. She couldn't find it - but I had received 3 more emails in the last two days from them. She said she was going to take me off the email list. She was very helpful and refunded my money. I still get at least one email a day from them - sometimes two. Ordering online is supposed to be less time consuming and easier. This has been a nightmare. I will never buy anything from them ever again. read more

Was treated poorly while trying to exchange a pair of shoes for my toddler. All I wanted was a bigger size of the same shoe. Manager proceeded to tell me that they only carried the shoe one size larger than what I purchased (what if I need 2 sizes bigger?); my husband got frustrated and found sizes all the way up to a twelve on the shelves. Manager insisted on checking all of my credit cards to find my purchase in their system because I had no receipt; after 5 different cards and searches he finally did the exchange but it was very clear that he didn't like having us in his store.
