I've been to Famous Toastery before but this was my first time at this specific location. Due to COVID, masks were required and capacity was limited. I don't believe that the mask requirements are strongly enforced, though, because a member of my 4 person party did not wear a mask and was not approached about having one. We were told the wait would be about 30-45 minutes but received a text message saying that our table was ready after waiting about 20 minutes. I ordered a French Toast Breakfast sandwich (French toast as bun, egg, sausage, and cheese) with grits and it all tasted great! I highly recommend! The food came out hot and very prompt. We did not wait long at all. I'd definitely order the same thing again. The only reason why I did not give my experience a full 5 stars is because we were given the bill with our food and we were not asked prior to checking out if the bills needed to be separated, which made the paying process difficult. When we went to pay the bills the cashier seemed to be frustrated with having to separate our bills. While trying to figure out which customer had which items, the cashier was speaking to us behind her mask and a plastic shield and we couldn't hear her very well. Because of her eye-rolling and attitude-like gestures we could tell that she had become frustrated with us. My folks saw this place advertised on the news as a must-do for brunch or breakfast. They brought me here during a recent visit over Labor Day weekend. It is located in the same parking lot as JT Posh, with a few designated spots in front of the restaurant. We arrived about an hour after opening, which someone from the wait staff said was ideal if you're trying to beat the crush of people coming in. They let us choose our seats and grabbed drinks quickly while we looked over the menu. In addition to the regular menu, they offer daily specials. I went back and forth on a special versus a breakfast sandwich, but decided on the breakfast sandwich with egg, bacon, and cheese on sourdough bread. I also added a side of their potatoes. It's a restaurant where everyone is your waiter - if you need something, you can flag down any of the wait staff for assistance. We rarely needed to get anyone's attention as those who passed our table were very attentive and quick to ask about refills or checking on how we were doing. I was amazed that one of the guys offered to grab more water for my tea free of charge - most of the places I order hot tea from it's limited to a single cup or a small teapot if you're in a nicer place. Breakfast sandwich was excellent - bread was toasted, cheese perfectly melted, and the egg ratio on the sandwich was perfect. (Sometimes the restaurants overcompensate on eggs and the other ingredients are lost.) The potatoes were cooked well and had a bit of spice on them - my mom complained they were too spicy but I felt it was just right. One drawback to the restaurant is table size - if you have 3-4 people at one square table and you're ordering large meals, you might struggle to have enough room for everything on the table. We sort of had to play jigsaw puzzle with placing glasses and plates carefully on the table without knocking things over. I'd come back here again for the food and fantastic service. read more

Service was top notch. Seated as soon as the doors opened. I was seated downstairs so that might be an issue for some. Place is cute and all the attentive staff float to every table. Ordered the country Benedict. Eggs were poached correctly. Ham was a bit salty, goes with the turf, I guess. Biscuit was soft and fluffy. Everything smothered in delicious sausage gravy. A side of grits and breakfast kept me going most of the day. Decent coffee too. I'm from out of town, but expect to be back often next year and I'll definitely be back at Famous Toastery. read more

Enjoyed Sunday brunch here with friends! When we arrived we were immediately greeted with very pleasant hostesses. We had a small wait, but it went quickly. There is plenty of seating upstairs and down and is great for larger groups. They operate under a server share style (any server can assist you and they split tips). Everything came out perfect and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their choices! I definitely recommend the potatoes, waffle, and my husband loved his corn beef hash. I liked that they give you the ability to choose the level of spice you want for your Bloody Mary. It was the perfect combo of mild with a little spice and it definitely delivered! While walking to try to find Rhino Market, we accidentally found Toastery!! The entrance is is located in a weird spot and kinda hard to describe. We had to get on an elevator, go down a floor and then walk down the hall. There are plenty of signs though to help direct you! It was almost like we were going to a secret club. My companion ordered the basic brekkie with poached eggs but hers had egg shell in it. Happens - just not ideal. Food was okay (I wish I would've ordered something else), our waiter was great, and the tables were all spaced apart. Plus a Black-owned business?! Hell yeah! But the food runner, the man who brought out our food and the table next to ours (we were a 2-top and them a 6-top) HAD HIS MASK BELOW HIS CHIN. It made me sick to see that. I'm giving them a half star for having a nice server. Half a star for letting me include an order of salsa and Pico de Gallo for our eggs. My husband and I arrived at 9:30 for breakfast on a Friday. It was not crowded. Nice atmosphere, very cold in room. We enjoyed coffee for me, a decent but forgettable Bloody Mary for him. We ordered a combo, two eggs( scrambled) a flapjack, sausage for me , bacon for him. After a pretty long wait, it arrived in containers, in a carry out bag at our table. We looked shocked..the girl at counter said, "they are eating here!" After a few minutes, our plates arrived. They had dumped the food on cold plates, didn't reheat anything. Our eggs were ice cold. They finally remembered the salsa...to dump on ice cold eggs. Our pancakes were ice cold. No butter on them or offered, it wouldn't melt anyway. Then it took a few minutes and they brought some cold syrup to put on it. Awful! No excuse, but pitiful management. Another couple beside us got a visit from either chef or management to apologize about forgetting order and comped them. They said they had waited 40 minutes. Visited Charlotte for a quick stay and was looking for quality breakfast food. This place was recommended by a friend and was in the vicinity of our hotel. You will need to take an elevator to the entrance but there are plenty of signs that will help you get there. The wait staff was extremely helpful and I love how they are all willing to jump in and assist if you can't track down your designated waiter. I had the crab cake scramble and it was amazing! I wish I had gotten a stack of these instead of whatever I had ordered! I can hardly even remember what I ordered other than the pancake!
