Went here for breakfast around 12pm on a Saturday. I got the breakfast combo with scrambled eggs, city ham, and a gluten free flapjack. The menu doesn't say the combo comes with a breakfast meat but it does. Also to note, the gluten-free flapjack batter mix is made with almond meal. The food somehow lacked flavor. The service was not good. My server was nice but took forever to come to the table, and didn't check back after the food was served. Not sure if they were short-staffed or what. I've been here twice and was ok with it the first time. I went with three other friends. My food was fine. However, my friend's poached egg was a tad bit overcooked. Overall, we were fine with that visit. Today, I came here for lunch. I ordered a Left Coast BLT with a side of potatoes while my boyfriend ordered a BYO omelette with toast, oranges, and potatoes as well. Drinks came out right away, but we were not refilled once during our entire meal, so it felt like a waste for me to get a sweet tea. It was pretty upsetting because we were sitting next to the drink station. The food came out quick. Suspiciously quick. Before eating, our food looked well presentable. But after we took a bite of our potatoes, we were both pretty dissatisfied and knew the rest of our meal would follow. The potatoes look beautiful in color, but don't let that fool you. It's pretty bland. It's like meeting someone beautiful with the most dull personality. Also, the potatoes' temperature was inconsistent. Parts were barely warm while a lot of parts were miserably cold. I'm assuming it was thrown in the microwave for about 30 seconds-1 minute or it's improperly being held at the wrong food temp. I definitely don't have a problem with how hot foods are prepared as long as they're hot. My boyfriends was the exact same. I was fine with the BLT, but I wish the toast was warm. It was just cold. Cold toast and cold bacon. Maybe that's how a BLT is normally served, though, regardless of it being toast or not? I'm also assuming everything was pre-made and held until prepared. My boyfriend said the eggs were fine. However, he could not finish the rest of the potatoes. I'm not big on food waste, so I ate everything. Overall, nothing was terrible. I was just upset with the food temperature and lack of service as we were only checked on once before we barely ate anything. I didn't give this star a 1 or 2 star because I definitely could have said something, and they could have potentially fixed that problem. However, I didn't ask, and that was my fault. A super reliable breakfast place. I was in town for HeroesCon like I typically am most years and there's always the dilemma of where to eat breakfast. Do you eat some place downtown that's in walking distance or drive to someplace close by since Charlotte has a ton of amazing restaurants all over the city. The Famous Toastery has a new location in uptown that is very close to the convention center. Barley a 5 minute walk (and walking in uptown Charlotte is a delight). They are located right off Tryon st. It's a little hidden since you walk into an office building and take an elevator down a floor. Once there it's very easy to find and they have lots of seating. The Famous Toastery is very much a traditional breakfast diner with more flare then an IHop or Waffle House. They have a very large and diverse menu. As someone that loves breakfast food I love poring over their extensive menu and wondering what to get. I settled on their Famous Hash (corned beef ad shredded potatoes topped with eggs any style and hollandaise sauce). It's all the things I love in a breakfast item. It also comes with your choice of bread side (toast, muffin, etc...) It was terrific. All the breakfast elements I love in once place. I couldn't ask for more. I was incredibly satisfied with my experience here. My only criticism is they didn't have any iced coffee which in 2018 seems like a weird choice. Its a little thing, but I do love my Iced Coffee. Our canvassing of Wells Fargo and Bank of America was a tremendous success. Serveral people signed up to volunteer. I also had the pleasure of having brunch at Famour Toastery. The coffee is divine. "Lavazza coffee is actually from Hawaii not Itally," my co-protestor replied to my very off the cuff remark of how I loved Itallian coffee. The emblem, "Lavazza," was artfully displayed on the cappuccino cup. I love good coffee and the staff was more than willing to provide top offs and to go cups on the house. We were canvassing at the Pride Parade for ActionNC, soliciting signatures from venders and participants alike. Wells Fargo did a terrific job of selecting socially conscience venders. AIDS research, LBGTQ advocacy, the ACLU, and the Peace Corp were all represented among others.. Given the broad array of positive social actors providing great information, I was dissapointed to be one of the groups who were protesting Wells Fargo and their sister institution BofA. The Wells Fargo Foundation is over 30 million invested Geo Group and Core Civic, two of the industry leaders in private prison management, and detention centers. Some of those facilities have recently been featured in the news due to the Zero Tolerance policies of the current administration. Private prisons are businesses that profit from human suffering and racial imbalance. They provide incentives to unfairly incarcerate members of certain communities. They leave a wake of destruction in the form of emasculated ommunites and separated families. The food at Famous Toastery was above par. Breakfast anytime is a hard sell for me but everyone was pleasantly surprised. The manager, a bald gent, made sure our orders were accurate. He was relentless as a server. Relentless in the good way that only a manager who takes pride in their work can be. At first I thought he was the owner but then I realized that every employee seemed equally invested. Leading from the front; a terrific leadership strategy. That is a tried true trickle down theory. I wish Wells Fargo would continue to lead from the front with regards to private prisons and ICE related detention centers. Wells Fargo is a proud institution in the City of Charlotte but the sort of corporate double speak that they are currently engaged in is reprehensible. To support such diverse groups and yet invest in detention centers, and the private prison industry is hypocritical. It makes zero sense Wells Fargo and others have essentially sold their corporate souls for 30 pieces of silver. I was really disappointed that the French toast wasn't stuffed with strawberries AND cream cheese the way it was described on the menu. Toast makes its way Uptown...yay! I'm a fan...except of only the upstairs. We parked on a side street around 9:00 a.m. and felt like we were the early bird diners and I'm glad it was that way because the restaurant was quiet. We did enter through the basement of sorts in the office building and were asked if we wanted downstairs or upstairs. So we walked through the downstairs which felt, literally, like a cafeteria, and when we went upstairs were pleasantly surprised with what felt like, well, a wonderful cafe with great windows and light.
