Not overtly sweet but with a buttercream pistachio that filled the hole in my heart and hole of the donut. Super pretty with edible flowers. Churro. Surprisingly crispy after a few hours out, chocolate was dark but not cloyingly sweet with a hint of spice? Cinnamon? Iranian- I expected cream cheese from the color of the base but the word that came to mind was savory. Saw this place on social media and stopped in to try the guava and cheese donut but ended up also ordering a raspberry jam donut and hot chocolate. The raspberry was my favorite (tasted super fresh) and the hot chocolate was great too especially for the cold morning. I can't remember what each one was but overall I just wasn't wowed by any of them. My favorite might have been the strawberry, though it didn't have much strawberry flavor. For my birthday, I went on an epic quest to find the best donuts in NYC and I am pleased to report to you that Fan Fan was my runner up choice (which donut was the best...you'll have to check my reviews) Walked in and there was a HUGE step up so I felt like I was literally climbing into the shop. Could have used more cinnamon in the donut or the glaze Vanilla custard filled - this donut was everything. The donut itself was the perfect texture and the filling was thick, dense, balanced, and so so good. I would eat a box of them. For this reason alone, I would return La Donna - Not too sour. Not too sweet. A good balance Of course as I am paying, I asked the employee which her favorite was and she said the Danny Boy which was not in my box. So happy to finally have tried! Came here and shoutouts to the lady working who was patient with me and my silly questions because she was awesome. It's a small shop, no seating inside, just a grab and go. Aside from the doughnuts, they sell fun little things around the store like paletas from La Newyorkina (I believe this was the brand), cookbooks, food things, etc. Now onto the food. Doughnuts were amazing. Tasted fresh baked even though we came in the afternoon. Loved all their flavors they had to offer. The milk and cookies had nice light whip on top. The Danny boy was sooo good. I was worried the caramel would have made it too sweet for my taste, but the brown butter really counteracted that for a perfect balance. La Donna was a black currant and raspberry which wasn't tart or sour, lovely flavors and mix. The churro one was also great, including their churro on top. The hot chocolate is definitely a personal preference - the chocolate has a nice bitterness to it, texture was thicker, almost like a melted chocolate mixed with milk. The marshmallow added a nice balance of sweetness, and they add on doughnut croutons for a fun textural experience. If you're not a fan of more bitter chocolate and a thicker hot chocolate I'd say just be mindful of ordering. Will definitely be back if I'm in the area read more

I finally got a chance to stop by Fan Fan Doughnuts! I've been dying to try their doughnuts since they opened, but I'm not in that neighborhood very often. Well it was worth the wait! I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon around 1pm and there were only a few people in line and still plenty of doughnuts left. WOW, this is a gem in the neighborhood. I'm kicking myself for sleeping on it for so long. Firstly, these doughnuts are quite large. I ordered two to try but I really only needed one. I love that they offer a multitude of unique flavors and creations to suit everyone's palate. I am not the biggest sweets person, but I do appreciate it every now and then. For this trip, based on other reviews, I decided to try both the guava and cheese as well as the Danny Boy. The Guava and cheese was just the right touch of sweetness for me. It didn't feel like a sugar bomb in my mouth as the cheese center was more mild. This had the perfect ratio of filling/dough. The crunchy topping was also a nice break of texture from both the spongey exterior and creamy filling. Be forewarned that both of these donuts required a bunch of napkins, they aren't playing with their sticky toppings! The Danny Boy was like a treat. Definitely more on the sweet side but still didn't feel like I'd have a tooth ache. The topping was similar in texture to melted peanut butter but was a delicious salted caramel spread. Ate: Choco coco $11 The top of the sundae was overloaded with whipped cream and there were little chocolate chip cookies hence the name. Located in a quieter part of Clinton Hill and in the original Dough storefront, Fan Fan delivers some of the most creative doughnut combos/flavors around the city. Where else can you grab a mango lassi donut or a Spain (churro-topped chocolate glazed) donut? Fan Fan also doesn't rest of its laurels and regularly introduces new flavors. On our most recent visit, we got the black sesame crusted donut holes that reminded me of a similar dim sum item of sesame-crusted fried dough balls found in some Chinese dim sum restaurants or bakeries. Moreover, the doughnuts here are wallet- and waist-friendly, most of them are priced under $4 and usually don't exceed the size of your palm. It won't be long before we are back for more. read more

When I say I haven't had donuts as good as Fan Fan, I mean it. I came here on a Saturday and I know that I arrived when I saw the long line (always a good sign). You can smell the donuts from a block away, mask on- how can one not stop by? My friends and I bought quite a few because why not. Here's what we got in order of our most favorite (I understand that that's a superlative that doesn't exist lol) to least favorite- 1. Yuzu Meringue- can I marry a donut? Yes, just yes. The tartness to sweetness ratio is absolutely perfect and it's a must. 2. Gauva and Cheese- also super delicious. So basically if you get any of the filled donuts, you're in good hands. Not 110% sure as to what type of cheese this is (maybe cream cheese)? but it's absolutely delicious. On a side-note, I would never discriminate against any type of cheese to begin with. 3. La Donna- yes, all the fun flavors are amazing! I'm not 100% sure what the white decorations on top were but they were a nice touch. 4. Boston Cream- a classic, wasn't a huge fan of the chocolate glaze on top but the cream was super fresh and a generous amount was given. 5. Luna Limon- also a great tart donut, but it was pale in comparison to the Yuzu Meringue. 6. Twisted Braid- another classic, nothing to die for but obviously tasty. 7. Mango Lassi- call me picky, but I LOVE mango lassis but seemingly not on my donut? It just seemed a bit off, at least for me. 8. White Coffee- another flavor where I love it but not in donut for. Still happy I tried it though. All in all, the quality of these donuts are absolutely fantastic and you NEED to go try them! I'm never in Brooklyn and I would venture in just for Fan Fan. I have been severely dissapointed by donuts these past few years, especially pricy fancy donuts, so this place wasn't even on my radar but I am so glad I gave it a shot. My second favorite donut was the Salted Carmel Brown Butter donut. The brown butter took attendance every single bite and was absolutely immaculate. If you like butter, get this donut. The Salted carmel glaze wasn't overly sweet which I was thankful for. The flavors of this donut were insane; the sourness of the yeast donut base dipped in brown butter and carmel. If you went into Fan Fan and ordered a box of just this donut you wouldn't be wrong. My first favorite donut is an unknown variety; I am not sure what the filling was or what the topping was. I think the guy said ginger merange. Pretty weird that I don't know what kind of donut it was but it's still my fav, right?
