Surprised to see no appetizers on menu, no biggie, but when asking our waitress about appetizers, acting like it was a stupid question, just replied with 'salad, soup or breadsticks' Then when our pizza arrived, there wasn't a pizza server, again, asked our waitress, 'do you have a pizza server?' She rudely replied 'no we do not' and walked away. What restaurant is going to serve a pizza without a server? So we had to try to pick up a piece of hot pizza while burning our fingers... real nice. Not overly impressive. Went there for lunch and I had a meatball sandwich with salad and my daugher and girlfriend ordered personal pizzas with salad. The food was ok, nothing to write home about. The recommended house salad italian dressing was very salty and they saturated the salads with it. Pizzas were ok and the meatball sandwich wasn't close to competing for best in town. Service was average but the lack of stars in this review came after we got the bill. They wanted $40 for three lunches. When I looked closer at the bill they tried to charge $1.50 per topping on the pizzas and $7.00 for two mediocre salads. We asked the waitress about the price and she was less than pleasant even though the toppings should have only been .50 each (I checked the price on the menu). My salad came with the meal but the others didn't. The waitress removed 3.00 for overcharging the toppings and when we asked about the salad price she offered to remove them from the bill. She came back after checking with her manager and said she could only remove one salad. Even though it was her mistake she was very rude to us for having asked. It ended up being over 33.00 for lunch with a bad service experience. We won't be going back. If you try the place don't expect much and make sure you look closely when you get the bill. read more

I love this place. I love the simple food and I love the decorations. I remember as a child always being able to see that it was decorated according to season or holiday. I'm glad they kept this as they moved to their new location. The pasta is simple and delicious. The pizza is always good as well. Amici's still has my favorite italian dressing of anywhere!!!! The food is pretty good here. I really like their noodles and sauce. The waitress we had was very pushy and made us eat in a hurry - which was very annoying. Family owned and I have been going here for many years ( when they were in the old location) and always order the spaghetti here - sauce is amazing and I love the thick noodles!!! Just picked up to-go dinner after seeing very positive Google reviews, and I have to say that it was not worth the money. Each entree was about $13-$15, and my hubby compared it to "Chef Boyardee." The calzone dough was soggy and limp (yes, I know it was to-go, but I only live 5 mins away), the meat and sauces were all extremely salty, and the meatballs have a texture of meat sponges. Truthfully, we ended up both throwing away about half our meal and wishing we'd spent the money elsewhere. I feel bad for such a horrid review, because the staff was very nice and customer service was great, but based on the food I will never be coming back. read more

I had high hopes when i pulled into the parking lot, but those hopes diminished when we sat down. Service was lacking. Our "salad" of wet lettuce and three pieces of pepperoni was swimming in a lake of oily tasteless "dressing". My gluten-free pasta came crunchy and with a haphazard smeer of thin sauce and tiny half link of sausage. My husband's baked rigatoni came dry and the garlic bread left the delicious to be desired. But the pain didn't stop there, our bill came and despite the fact that the dishes are hugely over priced for the small unappetizing portions, the up charges for the bread basket and meat just sealed the deal for this place. My family started dining at this restaurant when it first opened on 52nd and Sheridan. At the time it was half the size of it's later expansion. We always particularly enjoyed the italian dressing and the simple red sauce and became loyal and frequent customers. Over time the restaurant's popularity began to inflate the egos of the daughters who began managing and greeting/seating the customers who came through their doors. I would think that after so many years a familiarity would ensue from the patronage of their loyal customers. We and other loyal customers were treated, however, just as newcomers walking through their doors. Their attitudes were elitest, their customer service sucked, and they didn't and don't realize that their own 2 feet touch the ground just like their fellow mortals. We do recognize this, however, and have stopped dining there due to their total supremist and snobby demeanors. Our experiences were the same on multiple occasions...friendly diners walking in their doors to PAY the bills and SUPPORT the lifestyle of the restaurant's family members, only to be treated like dirt. I've been to Torino, Florence, Rome etc and the food at Amicis is NOTHING compared to the local cuisines across Italy, not to mention the impeccable service in that country when you dine in their facilities. Anything that is prepared in Italy is made from fresh ingredients, from the local pizzeria to the high end bistro. Amicis serves brown lettuce in a pathetic version of a salad, terrible timing on entree delivery, and naturally one star service. We aren't the only people who have encountered such offensiveness at Amici's, but considering its relatively long history perhaps their long time customers aren't as familiar with such online sites. We speak for many of those who have walked through your doors - sites such as yelp just weren't around at the time. What can I say about this place? I've been going here with my family for as far back as my memory allows me to go. I remember when it was in a different location (which I preferred), but this one is alright too. The food is really what you come for. The salad they offer with their entrees is amazing. Get their house italian dressing....this is not the salad dressing you get in the store loaded up with so much sugar it's like eating a candy bar. Then get the red sauce. Get it on anything! The last two times I have visit Amici's they short me on the meat item that is supposed to come with the plate. I'm certain the chief knows how to count to two as in two meat ball or two sausages and why the waitress doesn't catch it and ask the chief to complete the order is beyond me? Honestly, just came here spur of the moment. Worst service I've had in a very long time we didn't get greeted for awhile, food took forever. This review is only based on one visit, and it will probably remain that way. The iceberg lettuce salad was disappointing. The fettuccine alfredo was SO bland, the garic toast included was the only flavorful part of the meal. I didn't try any of the sausage or other meats, but I guess the meat may be the reason to eat here. If you are on a field trip from a retirement community or in elementary school you will love this place because the food is so plain. read more

I ordered a pizza to go on Sat. night at 5pm which is when Amici's starts to get really busy It was ready when I got there, however I felt like they were so busy seating people that they were not friendly and thankful for the business. Been going to this business since I was 9, so 28 years now. They were on 53rd Sheridan then moved onto Wads. Ounce the Westword rated there pizza 10th place but they we're robbed. I did try the best top 2 pizzas and they sucked and there out of business. The spaghetti and the sauce is good always a favorite. The Amicis pizza which has no sauce but whole tomatoes is always a good choice and there's a gluten free pasta too. I could say it's one of the old Northside Italian favs and the owner is still a good looking Italian woman along with her daughters so a must check out. read more

This Italian restaurant is truly what a family owned business should be. The customer service was the best I have ever received while eating out. We dealt with three generations of pure love. Mandy was our server, her mother was the host, and the grandmother Beverly is the owner and she greeted our table. We are from Chicago so we do know what Italian food should taste like and the food was great. You know its homemade and the FRIED DOUGH for dessert was just how my grandfather made it. That calzone was the size of my head, but the inside was just a mess and impossible to eat without a cutting board and surgical tools. The sausage was not cut and had to be taken out and cut, then put back in, in order for me to enjoy a proper bite of calzone. Good food, family owned and operated, local clientele, tacky decorations for every season - if you aren't from around here you just won't get it. The ladies running the joint have heads and sometimes hair bigger than the restaurant and aren't the friendliest but that just adds to the flavor of the place.
