This is one of our family favorites when we're craving some delicious HK food in the Rowland area…read more It's located in the old 99 cent plaza on the corner of Nogales/Colima at the very end. The parking is VERY bad here but you'll find parking if you go farther towards the supermarket side. Yes there is always a wait here especially on peak weekend hours but the lines move very fast. You do ideally need a mandarin/cantonese speaking person however since majority of the staff don't speak english if you need help. The menu is huge with all your traditional HK cafe foods including a separate breakfast and lunch menu. The must have beginner items are the Iced Lemon Tea or the HK Milk Tea. They have changed the policy so you only get ONE refill now then you'll be charged for the 2nd refill! There on-going promotion is BOGO 1/2 steamed chicken or add $3 if you want soy sauce chicken. A very common deal in the rowland area however this place isn't the BEST for steam chicken since its abit lacking in meat and flavor buts till a good deal for larger parties. The other go-to items here are the walnut shrimp, french style filet mignon, egg plant with garlic sauce casserole. Get the short rib version if you want more protein! All of these dishes are super authentic and delicious and very consistent every time! There are secret menu items not on the menu like the stir fry two types of noodle with salted vermicelli(咸魚肉片炒雙麵/炒雙營). It's a classic HK dish with thin egg noodle and chow mein noodle mixed together. This chow mein becomes super crispy while the egg noodle remains soft. The saltiness of the salted fish goes great as the main carb. The service here is great with very attentive waiters. Yes you need to be aggressive to get there attention like at all Cantonese restaurants! This place is great for small groups to very large parties since they large tables and even private rooms available too.

I ordered the 鮮蝦餛飩湯麵 / shrimp wonton noodle soup ($13.99). This took about 15 minutes to arrive; when it did, it arrived piping hot. The noodles had decent spring and texture despite being thin. The wontons also had silky wrappers, but crucially didn't rip or disintegrate. The fillings also had properly flavorful and plump shrimp bits - no filler. The stock was also rich. This was textbook execution. In Cantonese fashion, the simplicity belies the execution and attention to detail. Note that the breakfast menu entrees include one hot drink (coffee, milk tea, HK style coffee & tea, Chinese tea, or lemon tea). 1 refill only, +$1.99 for cold drinks, +$1 for to-go cups.

It took about ten minutes for us to get a booth table, but we were waiting inside. The staff member called numbers firstly in Cantonese then in English. After we sat down, the waiting line persisted past 1 pm. Similarly, the bustling loudness continued on during the course of our meal. Food arrived quickly, however. The price point for the delicious food is competitive. We got French-style filet mignon ($18.99), braised tofu in brown sauce ($14.99), chicken chow mein ($14.99), and a steamed rice noodle roll with barbecue pork ($5.99). A pot of rice was included in our meal. The steamed rice noodle roll with barbecue pork was a nice appetizer that arrived first. I enjoyed how the French-style filet mignon was garnished with Thai basil, black pepper, and ginger. The meat was flavorful and tender. The braised tofu in brown sauce was consistently hot on the inside. The delicious brown sauce soaked throughout the vegetables. The chicken chow mein didn't have a lot of sauce, but it was still delicious with a lot of meat included. Overall, it would be nice to visit again outside of a peak time because the food prices are competitive. The menu is expansive, and the breakfast selections look interesting. The atmosphere during the Sunday lunch peak time was consistently bustling. I think the restaurant started to play Chinese music loudly at random points so that people could finish dining more quickly.

We were placed in the back room, which felt a little more calm compared to the main dining area. Service was good. Our waiter was fast, friendly, and really on top of things, which made a big difference since it was packed. Ordering is simple, they give you a paper menu where you mark what you want and hand it back. We ordered tea for two and picked a bunch of dim sum: jumbo shrimp har gow, shrimp fried wontons, steamed rice noodle roll with shrimp, baked abalone sauce BBQ pork bun, poached Chinese broccoli, and custard egg tarts. Everything came out fresh and hit the spot. The har gow were plump and juicy, the rice noodle rolls were soft and silky, and the BBQ pork buns had that perfect slightly sweet, fluffy texture. The egg tarts were a great finish--warm and flaky. We did end up only getting 5 out of the 6 items we ordered, but honestly we were already pretty full at that point so I didn't feel like making it a big deal. Also... we were so hungry we totally forgot to take pictures of the rest of the food Overall, a good dim sum spot, however I felt like the prices were a bit higher than the other dim some places I usually go to. Busy but efficient, good food, and friendly service. I'd would come back again!

They are able to host large gatherings with relative ease. One issue I have is that the service can sometimes be lacking. During the wedding dinner, I was the only one out of about 60 people who was carded before getting alcohol poured out for me, and this was in front of everyone. It's not a big deal but it did feel a bit like discrimination for whatever unknown reason, because I was definitely not the youngest looking one by far. When we complained about this, the server stopped but never apologized to me. Not all servers have these kinds of issues, but just a heads up that these things can happen.

The food here is mediocre at best and the service is just awful. They make you feel like a burden and inconvenience right from the bat and refuse to acknowledge you. We were ordering with a waitress then she suddenly got frustrated when we tried to order the honey walnut shrimp and threw her hands in the air and called someone else over. The tall Asian guy who took our orders also made us seem like an inconvenience and even walked away in the middle of us ordering. He kept this same attitude throughout the whole time. My parents were excited for the 99 cent chicken deal they had and wanted to order more and the same guy refused to acknowledge their questions and ultimately told us it was 1 order per table. This is fine if that's their policy, but it was the way he was acting. He made us feel that we were cheap and stingy wanting to take advantage or get cheap eats. If you don't want people to order this cheap dish, don't have it on your menu or advertise it! Also, we ordered plenty of other foods. Beware because this place seems like they're scammy. I ordered a pot of rice and apparently they charge rice per person so regardless of how many people you have, you still get the same pot of rice but more expensive. This makes no sense even when I questioned them about it. When we tried to ask one of the cart ladies about ordering a football from the fried section, she gave us another item instead and when we opened it up, it wasn't what we wanted. They kept trying to push more items on our table to get our money even though we repeatedly said no. They also charge for sauce and didn't tell us. Another waitress (who we didn't even interact with throughout our time) chased me down trying to pressure me to tip more. I have no problem tipping, but when the service is like this, I am not going to leave a 20% tip like usual. I will say the kind busser here was exceptional and although he didnt speak English, he was so kind and honestly made my day. Everyone else here was rude and unwelcoming. The mediocre food here is not worth the outright disrespectful and terrible service.

It is the first restaurant in the corner of the building. I remember Tasty Garden at a SGV location that used to be so popular but slowly fading away and later on closed down. I decided to give this location a try. I ordered togo, however when I picked up my order, I saw there were many seats available. Everything was packed very well and they didn't forget anything. I had two orders of Yang Chow fried rice (which included shrimp and bbq pork), and two orders of pan fried chicken steak + pork chop combo, which came with some steamed veggies, mushroom sauce, and a side box of white rice. The fried rice had wok hey and was good. The bbq pork was a bit tough/hard though. The chicken steak was pan fried really well and well cooked. The pork chop was a bit thin, but was crispy. I love how easy to eat the steamed veggies were. Everything was fresh and clean. My order came out quick and hot!! I am pleased to say this passed my quality of Hong Kong cafe test. The store itself is nothing fancy, very no-frills. Prices are very reasonable, which is the main draw here. The dishes no longer have that proper wok hei flavor, and the food tasted bad on my recent visit. What made the experience even worse was the service. The staff were rude, dismissive, and acted annoyed that customers were even there. One of the girls, the one with the ponytail, was especially rude and needs to learn basic manners. Another staff member was also unfriendly and gave attitude the entire time. I also did not appreciate being pressured about tipping. A tip should be optional and based on good service. If the service is poor, customers should not be made to feel uncomfortable or confronted over it. On top of that, they add extra charges when using a credit card, including a fee if you spend under $30. That already feels frustrating, but the bigger issue is the attitude and poor treatment from staff. Customers are the reason businesses stay open. No one is asking to be treated like royalty, but people come in to enjoy a meal and should at least be treated with basic respect. If I am going to be ignored, rushed, and given attitude, I would rather stay home and eat in front of my TV. I will not be coming back .. food quality and customer service Nate major improve.
