The dim sum is served when they open at 7 am to catch the breakfast customers & the lunch selection starts at about 10 am which gets sold out by around 4 pm. They used to be cash but now accept ATM debit cards. This place does not have a formal name on the outside as it is an off-shoot & hole-in-wall extension of another restaurant next to it which over the years the names have changed several times since they first opened back around 2016 but nevertheless, the food taste & quality has not changed. All food comes from their kitchen. Although their prices have increased due to inflation, it is still very reasonable & not stingy in their servings. Even though the ladies behind the counter mostly speak Chinese, greeting them with a smile gets you a long way with just simple sign language. This restaurant has been rebranded to Top Island, the OG location in Alhambra. They serve the same food which is dim sum, cantonese bbq and item combos like a panda express. I've been eating here since i moved to Rowland Heights 7 years ago. Service is average considering most chinese restaurants but you put up with it for the delicious food. As other reviews have noted the ladies want you in and out to keep the lines going and food goes by fast and if you dont speak Cantonese or Mandarin then pointing at the food works too. Its not the cleanest but it's not dirty either. If you want certain items like roast pork or certain dim sum items it's best to go early. It's a hit or miss here. Depending on the time of day, it can be complete chaos. The lines aren't clear and it seems like there's separate sections for BBQ meats, dim sum, and regular takeout. Today was a complete miss. It's a hotter day and I came at 11 am on a Saturday. I got one order of shu mai and two orders of har gow. Shu mai was actually decent and fairly large in size. Only place left to get affordable dim sum. I remember this place used to be $2 each item but now it's close to $5. I come during the weekday so there's more selection. On the weekends the lines are so long and it's hard to find parking. One less star because this place the staff don't speak a lot of English so you have to be good at pointing your finger and nodding your head so they pack the right dim sum for you to go. I love their egg tarts. So delicious and flaky crust. Their fortune cake and bbq pork pastries are delicious as well. This small store also has a fresh meat area where you can grab some pork, bbq meat, chicken, and squid. They also have 2or 3 items combo that you can choose from. Large portion sizes and food is always fresh. If you order 5 dim sum items then they will let you use your credit card to pay. Otherwise cash only. I've also come in the morning to pay and reserved my egg tarts and then pick them up after work. Good service for this. Ordering line and payment line are similar. It's my family's favorite place for to go dimsum!! We always got siu mai, fried wonton, chicken feet, roasted duck and roasted pork. It's authentic and delicious. The price is higher on the weekend though. The service is okay since it's busy Chinese place and they tried to get the line moving faster. The quality of the ingredients have improved, along with adding an enhanced ingredient here and there for better tasting dim sum. There are a few dim sum places nearby, but Food to Go now is our go-to for their cost and taste. Weekday prices are cheaper than weekends. Service is not the greatest but I am able to get what I want to order most times. Go early because they sell out of certain items, but they also continue to bring out freshly made items from the kitchen throughout the day. I'm glad this place is still up and running during COVID. This is a to go only restaurant and they have the best dim sum in town. Everything is freshly made and flavor is always on point. The prices are average and on weekends it increases by a dollar. If you plan on going please note these is always a line out the door. It does move fairly quickly which is a good thing. When you finally get inside you will see lots of the classic dim sum menu items. They also offer other selections all of which are very good. As for staff/service it is just ok service. Don't expect to have a conversation with the person getting your food they are all business and want to get you in and out of there as soon as possible because they have others to serve. I always order my trifecta: chicken feet (the brown braised one for those who are unfamiliar), shrimp dumplings, and siu mai. In addition, I also order spare ribs, tripe, and shrimp or beef cheung fun. I'm honestly kind of basic, but I'm about that picky life. They make their shrimp dumplings here especially well. The skin is perfectly translucent with just enough tooth punch. More importantly, the shrimp is cooked just right. Once you lightly dip it (or douse it) in spicy mustard and soy sauce, it's a nice blend of salty, sweet, spicy, and tangy. I gotta walk out with at least 12 of them. The other things I order are all made well too. Their siu mai pack a lot in every little bite and the chicken feet is delightfully tender and sweet. Expect what you'd typically expect at any Asian restaurant: rude service and cash only. But at least they live up to their name: Food To Go. The address provided on Yelp was incorrect, but it was in the same plaza. They didn't have signs nor prices on what dim sum selections they have. Well, the ladies don't speak English well but they understand everything. Quick in & out service. Thought it's neat that they're open early (before 9 a.m.) and still got good number of dimsum items on display. However, the food is good, and it's conveniently located off the 60 freeway. This is a Togo express place. So just tell them what you want, the box it up, pay, and you're on your way. We live maybe 40-50 mins away depending on traffic and we will ALWAYS stock up on food from here. The go to always cannot leave without it: roast pork, dim sum, and single item entrees... so basically everything. The roast pork is very very good. Cheap prices. Quality is great. They have never let us down. The downside is that the wait can be a little long. In addition, language can be a little bit of a factor here. Luckily we are able to speak Chinese so we can communicate better with the employees. While we were waiting to order, a customer in front of us didn't speak Chinese. She wanted to split the bills into two. She asked someone in line to translate for her and someone else was happy to. Somehow, communication got lost and it was all one bill.
