I love Fannie May candies, and although there are other more high end chocolates available that you can buy, Fannie Mae is delicious! I'm grew up in Chicago, and my grandparents used to send a 2 pound box of the Colonial Chocolates which all of us kids would eagerly eye. Does anyone still remember the red round cans of mixed nuts, and hard candies? Sadly, those are no longer sold. Fannie May is not like it use to be! I use to love their candy but what an expensive joke now. Hershey is better!! I paid $24.95 for a box of Trinidads because I use to love them but the taste is nothing like it use to be. The originals had smooth creamy darker chocolate that melted in your mouth. I never had a bad experience inside Fannie May but this past Thursday It was horrible. As I walked inside I was immediately greeted by someone who offered a sample of cheesecake which was very cool she was very nice told me about the specials they were having and how I could get a free tote bag of I spend over a certain amount. I came inside looking for a box of Trinidads I was looking for a bit I guess I was standing next to one of the managers but I couldn't tell because she was out of uniform but I see her asking people if they needed any help but she never asked me if I needed any help so I approach a lady name Leslie under her name was store manager so I thought yeah I'm going to get the best advice and information in the store again SO I THOUGHT. I ask where can I find a box of Trinidads she pointed to an area instead of walking with me to show me. She was more focused on the computer all the other associates were busy helping customers but she was the only lady free to help I even asked about the Trinidads that were in white boxes in front of me and she Rudely responded WHAT! After that I walked away and tried to hurry and find my Trinidads and get the hell up out of there. So after walking past the Trinidads a couple of times. I finally found them myself I couldn't tell the difference between the prices and a nice sales associate lady asked me if I was finding everything okay I guess she could tell I was a little confused and then explained the prices she was very sweet I hate that I could not remember her name but she also suggested the colonial assortment to me because it was more of an assortment she actually came out of the area she was in and showed me. I grabbed two boxes she then politely asked another sales associate to check me out because she was waiting on another customer to come back from the ice cream station to get their box of chocolates. The nice young lady that check me out made conversation made me feel better about My experience with the lady that ignored me and the lady that was more focused on the computer. Then after I was done and getting ready to leave the lady that gave me a sample asked me did I find what I was looking for and said I'm glad you were able to get one of the bags they are perfect for going to the beach and politely ask did I want another taste of cheesecake I give it 2 stars because of the two ladies that were managers and couldn't help me out worth shit but the associates were perfect they need to learn a thing or two from them. read more

Oh my! A girl's dream right there. This is my first time in Chicago. Wandering around Michigan Ave my boyfriend pointed this out to me. We walked in and were immediately greeted with samples . Everyone in the shop was friendly. We were even given a short history lesson on the company. The store manager Luke was very helpful. He help me build a box. Everything he had me try was amazing. For Mother's Day, my son and daughter in law sent me a box of 12 large chocolate covered strawberries. They arrived about 1 p.m. today (the day before Mother's Day) The strawberries had started to mold and I had to pull them out of the chocolate and throw them out so of course some of the chocolate was thrown out too. What a waste. I called and reported it and was told that it is hot in Fl. Well that is not news! So how long did these stay on a truck and if we weren't home, what shape would they have been in. They are going to send me a one pound bag of chocolate. They did offer to send the strawberries again and I said NO. I think my son needs a refund and as much as I hated to inform him, I called him to tell him of the terrible condition of this gift. read more

I bought a boxes of pixies, carmarshes, assorted chocolates and a box of dark chocolate covered cherries. I grew up in Milwaukee and we always got Fannie May candies for special occasions and continued to get them since moving to Texas. I was very happy when they started up again. My daughter loves carmarshes and I sent some to her for Valentines Day-she was thrilled. My only problem with my order was that the cherries don't have nearly as much liquid in them as they used to have. That's why I couldn't give 5 stars. I would give the cherries 2 1/2 or 3 stars. It's such a shame, because they were always my favorite. I won't be ordering them again. But the rest of the chocolates were quite wonderful. read more

I had a problem with the 2lb box of dark chocolate pixies I ordered online. I felt it was underweight when received. I wrote customer service but didn't receive a response. I was shocked when I received a new box of 2lb dark pixies from Fannie May Chocolates. This gesture has restored my faith in this company. Well I have been a long time Fannie May customer so I thought I would try their link to 1-800 Flowers for Mothers day. That was big mistake! I ordered 30 tulips for $60 and when they were delivered to my mother she received 13! Pretty cheesy arrangement! I send an email to customer service and received no response. I have called Fannie May customer service and was told I needed to call 1-800 Flowers who then told me to contact Fannie May. So I called back and was given the special care number (verified with the service rep) and it was not operable. This is very disappointing from a company that has been a family tradition for decades. read more

I have been purchasing fanny May candy for years. I frequently stop at the Chgo Michigan Ave. location. I had been on the e mail list and received one that said you could get credited with $10.00 on a purchase. I went into the store and the sales help would not honor this. They claimed that you needed to show a piece of paper indicating this. I thought this was rather foolish especially because people today use their phones for many purchases. I l called a fanny May district manager to complain. This was about a month ago. She asked if she could send me a gift card as a means of reaching out to customers . I answered "of coarse." As this gift card was never receieved and I believe the sales help are not trained to treat customers with respect, I refuse to shop at Fanny May which is in my home town. I now order from Sees candies, pay a shipping fee, and am treated with respect. read more

The first time I notice this sweet sensation was in Akron, Ohio. My sample was in Cleveland. I stopped by this location while in Chicago. Visited 9/9/16 the chocolate did not disappoint. The only issue was the service was terrible. Young people gathered around in a huddle like they were not there to work. Needless to say this attitude is why I did not purchase anything. I had ordered a half dozen of strawberries and paid extra for the overnight shipping. Last night at 11:00 PM, I received an email confirmation that my order was shipped. I was under the assumption that my gift would be shipped on time. I tried to get a status update on my order from USP only to find out that Fannie May never shipped my order. When I called the customer service, the representative was unapologetic about the mistake and even denied that my purchase should a next day delivery. She was saying that she could compensate me by sending another order out today and a $15 credit. First of all, the replacement is what Fannie May should have done for me since they never fulfilled my original order. It was not any sort of compensation at all. Secondly, it is extremely unlikely that I would continue to purchase through them if they had already screwed up my very first purchase with them. When I requested to speak with the manager, it took the representative at least 20 minute to transfer the call. I requested to speak with a manager at around 12:20PM and I didn't get to talk to the manager until 12:41PM. The manager was pretty much repeating the same thing the representative had said to me. The manager also emphasized on the fact that the overnight replacement was free of charge to me, and it was already a compensation, yet in fact they had never sent my original order. The only explanation that she had offer me was that the berries turned brown and they had to pull the order to ensure the quality of the product, which I do appreciate and would understand. However, Fannie May did not sent me an update regarding the issue, and I was still left under the assumption that my surprise would still arrive at my boyfriend's work on time. Due to the fact that, the surprise was planned for today and they could not fulfill that, I requested for a full refund and Fannie May did fulfill. Again, they did not provide a confirmation on my refund. This very first business transaction left me feeling extremely upset and dissatisfied with how Fannie May conduct their business, highly unreliably! I would not purchase through them ever again and definitely would not recommend them to anyone else. read more

Even though there were several customers with complicated orders (mine included) he never wavered, greeted everyone that walked in the store and did the very best he could. I am 69 years old. My entire childhood at Easter revolved around an Easter Basket filled with Fannie May chocolates as I grew up in Elmhurst. When my wife and I moved to back Illinois in 1978 I continued that tradition with each of my five children. I was so sad a few years ago when your stores closed and equally happy when they reopened. Over the past few years however your chocolates have become so expensive that I VERY rarely buy them. Tonight I went to your store in Batavia and found that 12 ounces of jelly beans cost $9.99 or a little over $13.00 a pound--UNBELIEVABLE. On top of that the first employee was waiting on a customer when I entered the store. I looked around and a second employee came from the back room. She simply ignored me so I left. I will not be returning. Your prices are unrealistic and the customer service is about what I would expect at Walmart--lousy. Shame that I will no longer be continuing that wonderful Easter tradition with my 11 grandchildren any longer. Fannie May was a great candy company once upon a time--but not any more. read more

This is the first time I have ever to been to this Fannie May in Chicago. I will say that Luke and his staff where phenomenal workers. They made my girlfriend and I feel so welcomed, I mean they helped us with finding some of the perfect chocolates for our special occasion. They had amazing customer service skills and they for one made this store feel like it was our home, by how comfortable he (Luke) made us feel. He for one did not pressure us into anything, yet he made some amazing suggestions. He walked us around the store and he had us laughing. I for one will be coming back here because of him and his staff. I will also be making recommendations to everyone I know. read more

First of all my rating is due to the order process. My sister ordered me a box of chocolates for my birthday. She was extremely excited and let me know they should be here shortly. My birthday was July 14th... Today is September 20th and the box of chocolates just arrived. When my sister called to ask for the delay in receiving the chocolates they told her it was accidentally sent to the wrong location on the east coast. We are on the west coast. To make the situation more frustrating the note attached to the box that arrived said "We are so sorry that you never received these, please accept these as an apology for the delay and happy belated birthday". How does sending the order that we paid for to be considered an apology? The chocolates are tasty, But if you are considering ordering for a special occasion as a gift you may want to rethink using Fannie May Fine Chocolates! read more

I'm from the Chicago area. It was (is) a big treat to go to the local Fannie May and pick out some chocolates. Don't get the pre-boxed, just go to the store and pick out your favorites. The pixies of course, the chocolate covered nutes, the peppermint pastels, the caramels, and the dark chocolate covered orange rinds are some of my favorites. I brought home some extras (I live in the south now) and a friend loved the orange rind dark chocolate and she used to live in NYC. If you want gourmet or fancy go to Godiva. But they taste good because they are made of all fresh ingredients and you need to eat them when they are fresh. read more

don't ever order from the website. the service is horrible and nobody knows what they are doing. my order was split into 2 separate boxes, i was charged exhorbitant shipping, the pixies weren't even in the brown wrappers, just thrown in the box. they were small and looked like they had been stepped on. the pixie apple had next to no chocolate on it and to make matters worse they charged me double and i had to file a dispute with my bank. i loved fannie for more than 40 years and will never order again. very disappointed in florida read more

I have been buying and eating Fannie May candies for decades..I'm 74 years old. Every since Fannie May closed a few years ago and reopened, the quality and taste of their candy has declined substantially. The butter creams used to be creamy, now they are more solid and don't have the same wonderful butter cream taste. The caramel in the carmarsh's is mealy. Very disappointed the last few years. I think this is the last year I'll buy Fannie May unless I see a review that they have improved. As per other reviews, I can get Russel Stover which is the same quality for a lot less cost. Please Fannie May, bring back the old recipes for your used to be most wonderful candy. read more

fanny may is not what it used to be. you should disregard older reviews and pay more attention to recent reviews. in my experience, the candy used to be remarkable for how fresh it was. but now it's often stale, making it seem like dimestore quality. in a box of mixed candies i got a year ago, several were fresh, but at least half (the plain vanilla and chocolate) were very stale, and there were way too many plain vanilla and chocolate. i felt ripped off and now avoid this place. i wrote a letter expressing my disappointment as a long-time customer, and got no response. read more

Hey, I'm a Chicago girl living in California. I loved Fanny May candy and was convinced it was better than Sees. But something has happened to my beloved candy - it is not the same. I know the company went bankrupt and was sold to someone else. They SOLD OUT! The price went up astronomically and the quality went way down. I looked at their website and decided to splurge for Christmas dinner. I ordered the Pixie cake and a pound of specialized chocolates (1/4 pound of Pixies, toffee, carmels and Trinidads). The cake arrived before Christmas, but the candy was backordered! What's with that? The cake was a huge disappointment. Skimpy on the chocolate top and was just not anything like the description or my expectations. They had 10 reviews on the cake, all top rated. My family all tried a skimpy slice and nobody wanted another. I couldn't even give it away. The candy came about a week later and was stale. It was not the same candy it used to be. I posted a negative review about the cake on the website and guess what? Apparently they have a committee look at the reviews before they are posted and surprise my review did not get posted. I have literally never been more compelled to write a review about anything but I am literally MORTIFIED with this experience and I am generally a very patient and understanding person when it comes to customer service (having spent 5+ years in the hospitality industry.) Regardless, my boss was recommended by a colleague to use Fannie May to send small, inexpensive gifts to clients. He chose what he wanted to send and had me order them. At the time, I did not realize he had already registered an account with Fannie May and purchased the "Annual Passport Membership" which includes free shipping for the year. After I had placed the order, he informed me of this, so I went to go cancel these orders promptly after (Not even 24 hours after placing them.) It takes an hour on the phone with someone who was nice enough but seemed to be uninformed and/or working with a very inefficient system, but I was eventually able to cancel the orders. I later go to place the orders online using my boss' account using the free shipping. However, at check out, I notice the free shipping is not applied. I cannot figure out why. I, yet again, call customer service. This time, the rep is equally as uninformed, and (apparently with the assistance of a supervisor) is unable to figure it out either. Their only advice is "uhhh" and "maybe try logging in and out" (as if I hadn't.) Regardless, I maintain patience and resolve to try it the next day hoping it will make a difference. The next day, it does not. I have to call customer service after placing the order to have them manually remove the shipping fees. While doing this, I notice my old orders (that were apparently cancelled the day before) are still appearing. I call yet another time to confirm that they were in fact cancelled. I am reassured they were cancelled. I request to receive an e-mail confirmation of this for my records, to which the rep says they cannot do themselves, they can only leave a note to request management will (what??) So the next day, thinking I am finally done with this ridiculous Fannie May fiasco, I receive an e-mail in the morning that the initial order I placed (that I had been told TWO SEPARATE times on TWO DIFFERENT DAYS was cancelled) was shipped. I have been on the phone for over an hour now trying to resolve this and while I believe (/hope) that I am being refunded, this is literally ridiculous and makes zero sense. There is seriously some flaw in their system and their customer service training and EVERYTHING and I cannot imagine any product, especially bargain brand mass-produced kitschy chocolates, are worth this hassle. read more

My grandmother is from Chicago and when she would visit us every year she would bring a box of Fannie May chocolates. Sadly, she passed away this year. I decided to buy a few boxes/pounds of Trinidads which were her favorite to share with the family. The Trinidads arrived and were just as delicious as I remember. However, I had two complaints with my online purchase. First, my order was for approximately $100 but $300 was held in my bank account for several days. When I called customer service, they said the charges would reverse soon and this was a normal part of their billing process. I was appalled that three times the amount of my order was unavailable to me in my account. Second, when the chocolates arrived, the wrapping paper was torn and sticking to the other boxes of chocolates. Also, when you took the wrapping paper off, it tore at the actual box itself. Iast year I tried to order the "Holiday Pinnacle Gift Tower" for a Christmas gift, for a friend who LOVES Fannie May chocolates. I never got my order in on time, so this year, I ordered early, by nov 22nd. I place the order on line. They asked when I would like it delivered. I said on or before Dec. 16. On December 23, I called my friend in Phoenix to see if she received my gift. She said she didn't. I immediately called Fannie May, and inquired about my order. They said, " Oh, we ran out. Didn't you get a call or email and a credit.?" I never got a call, email OR a credit. How does a company do this??? They said sorry, can we send you a box of chocolate? I said all I want is to send my friend her tower. They said there was nothing they could do. I also emailed customer service, but never heard back from them. I will NEVER order or buy Fannie May again. I had to call my friend and tell her what happened. I felt terrible and now I still need to get her a Christmas gift. read more

I placed an order online on 01/14/2013 and was promised my shipment on 01/18/13. I received an email stating that the order had been shipped on 01/16/13 so I clicked on the tracking number and a label had only been created, no shipment. I checked on the 17th and got the same message, so I called. I was told that UPS sometimes doesn't update correctly, the order had been shipped and I should get it on the 18th. So I called the morning on the 18th because I checked UPS again and all it said was "label created" I was told once again it should be here by end of day. Well, UPS dropped off another package I'd ordered from a different company but NO FANNIE package. I called again and was told...OH...we are making a fresh batch of chocolate, completely new and fresh and I bet your order will be shipped on Monday and if I don't get it Monday call back. What??? Completely clueless customer service representatives. I was told that they would refund me for the order. The chocolates were suppose to be a birthday gift for today. UGH! read more

I often visit this Fannie May store, because they have the best chocolate in chicago and overall great customer service, but I do remember going in last week on March 13th and wanting some of my favorite candy, and once I walked into the store with a nice smile and excellent service while offering me a sample of chocolate which was Amazing, I ask her name and she told me Alisia all while giving me and education on Fannie May she made me feel at home and very comfortable, I can't say enough about the great customer service I received from that young lady,it wouldn't surprise me on the next time I go into the store, and I ask if ALISIA working that day staff tells me that she was promoted to store/ district manger I hope this fine her because this is a true testament to the overall excellent training and wonderful experience I had thanks Fannie May for having the worlds best Candy forever a customer :) James read more
