Clearly, someone like me is much too poor to be a customer at a place such as Fanny's - or any of my friends who work in various other industries. Please take a look at this photo. Fifteen dollars for "beef and farro" soup. I never get soup, but this was the cheapest thing on the menu and I figured that for fifteen dollars, it would at least be a huge portion. No. It was a few sips with four tiny pieces of beef, smaller than dice. If you want people who aren't rich to avoid your café, it would be better to just put up a sign saying "if you make less than $100,000 a year, we don't want your kind sullying our premises. I arrived earlier than my friend so I ordered a drink. Maria was so quick and friendly. Olga was a freaking delight. So knowledgeable about the food, drinks, museum and the area. When my friend arrived we ended up chatting with Will, Olga and Maria. They were truly the best part of our visit. Try the pope of trash. Best cocktail I had there. The burger: fantastic. The fries; worth every minute I spent driving from Palm Springs to see the John Waters exhibit. With gas prices how they are you can imagine how delicious the fries were. The atmosphere and decor are top notch and I was made to feel so welcome. You have a great team! We will be back just for the food and staff. So we had lunch at Fanny's while visiting the museum. The menu looked appetizing and we were excited by the options. That is until the waitress stopped by. First they had a fixed price menu as an option which a number of our group was interested in, but some wanted to order from the menu directly. We were told that if we were to use the fixed price menu then everyone at the table had to use it. What I was going to eat was off the menu and $20 more than the fix price so the end result was that HAD we chosen the fix price they would have made less money then allowing us the freedom to choose-some fixed and some menu items. We ended up ordering from the menu which cost us less than had that requirement not been made. We would have spent $170. Instead we only spent $107. Great math management. I suggest going back to business school and learn about revenue. 2nd they offered 3 and a 5 item Charcuterie but you could only choose cheese or meat. Not cheese and meat. I guess this is a way of forcing you to buy 2 orders. We went with the cheese but there was no explanation of the cheeses that were provided on the menu or from the waitress . Another way of saying we don't care about the customer. There was a dessert cart but only available to to the Fix Price orders . No option to order dessert off the menu . They really know how to bring in those dollars!!!!!! Finally I had the Steak and fries pretentiously named Steak Frite and it was very tough with a steak knife that was as dull as a butter knife. The flavor was good so that is a plus since you have to chew twice as long. Needless to say I won't be giving them any more of my money. The restaurant was not overly crowded yet we only saw our waitress when she took our order and brought the food and bill. Stopped by to watch Harry Potter and Sorcerer's Stone movie tribute to John Williams who will be retiring next year. We decided to get coffee and a snack and a bag of coffee beans. The lattes were served in a glass and serving was pretty substantial for the price (believe it is what you will pay at Sbux and this coffee is of far superior taste and quality wise). The lox tartine was fresh and yummy but serving was small for the price (and yes...people just need to stop bellyaching on the price). This is LA and the ambiance was classy and overall atmosphere is fancier than your regular cafe so there is a price to pay for that:) Will I return? We had dinner here last Friday (June 10) and we were pleasantly surprised. The parking in this area is a bit of a challenge but there is valet for $12 (with ticket validation) if dining at Fanny's. Thankful for this! We ordered Caesar's Salad, 2 order of New York Strip ( one medium well and other medium rare) and we also ordered the lemon chicken, plus asparagus and fries for the sides. For dessert, we had chocolate cake with peanut butter and I think it was a pistachio tart. For the drinks, we had soda (Coke) and we found it cute that it was in the old fashioned bottle- just found this cute and nostalgic. Everything taste good, from the appetizer, to the main course until the best part---- dessert! The steaks were cooked as we requested and appreciated that. The veggies were fresh and crisp and the desserts just had the right amount of sweetness. Additionally, the place is spacious and trendy with great, elegant decors. From the entrance, Cristina was already friendly and welcoming. What I truly appreciated in this place is the great customer service. Also, Ernesto was professional, courteous, and attentive. I have been to Fanny's twice, and I won't be back. I really want to love this place, the decor is beautiful and it's a nice evening to come see a screening and have a bite before or after. But the service is so horrendous that I can't justify the high prices, no matter how good the food is. Both times I've been there I've gotten my food before my drinks. There is no reason for the bar to be so slow with three bartenders behind it. On this visit it took them a solid 15 minutes to acknowledge us. I ordered a cosmopolitan, but was brought their twist on it, which is not good; when I asked if I could exchange it for a glass of wine, the bartender haughtily brought me a glass without even asking what kind of wine I wanted. Our meatballs had come easily 10 minutes before we got our drinks, but no plates or utensils until we asked for them. Twice. There is better food and better service at cheaper prices just a short drive away at Canter's. That's where I'll be going next time I come to the Academy for a screening. read more

I wish we knew we'd eat her to valet our parking and get it validated, because we parked a block away where the fitness center was and it was almost $30! Anyway, this restaurant is SO gorgeous on the inside, but we sat outside because we are still in a pandemic. After finding a table, I got in line to order some foods: AVOCADO BOTANITA - $17 Herb Salad, Citronada, Blue Corn Crispy Tortillas. Okay, this is pretty much over priced and over salted guacamole and chips. That herb salad? It was cilantro and pickled onions. That Citronada? It's slices of clementines. This dish came with 2 huge blue corn tortilla chips, covered in chili flakes and sea salt to make it fancy. Totally not worth $17. SMOKED SALMON - $19 Bulgar cauliflower Tabouleh, Pickled Onion, Chives, Sour Cream, Capers, Soft Egg, Toasted Bread. I was told that it would be like a build your own salmon toast thing. It was okay, at least better than the Avocado Botanita. Though I wish there were more sour cream. What I did not expect was there was a salad! It had dressing! You get in line to order your food, and in line at the counter is a huge selection of pastries, and they all looked amazing. What stood out the most and also bought were: COOKIE OF THE DAY - $4 Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookie with Hazelnut Spread on top. What stood out was that THICK layer of hazelnut spread. I've never seen this kind of cookie anywhere else! And it was delicious!!! MATCHA TART - $6 I swore the label said $4, but I'm not gonna fight them. It was pretty good--the filling and whipped topping at least. The crust was buttery but too thick for my preference. But if you like shortbread cookies you'll love this. What a lovely experience. I'm a museum member, but never made the time to dine here during all my visits. It was mostly because I was always scrap for time. I had a screening at the museum so I decided to make time for dinner here. We had roughly an hour which we honestly figured was more than sufficient. We didn't have a reservation, but it wasn't too crowded so we were seated right away. The first thing I noticed was how great the lighting was. It's super romantical inside. Perfect for date night. The second thing I noticed was how loud the music was. There was a DJ playing some good jams, but imho it didn't match with the vibe. We decided to share the following: Yellowtail Burrata Cauliflower We were thoroughly impressed with everything. I forgot the name of my drink, but it was presented to me with flames. Definitely coming back with more time to spare so I don't feel rushed. The cauliflower came out late so we had to ask for the bill right away. I think we left a few bites. read more

Fanny's is conveniently attached to the Academy of Motion Pictures Museum so I ate lunch here while visiting the museum. There is an outside entrance so you don't have to be a museum visitor to eat here. Both indoor and patio dining is available. You order at the counter, pay, seat yourself, and your meal is delivered to your table. I ordered a burger, a slice of chocolate cake, and a vanilla latte. If you thought you get gouged at theme parks for average food, wait until you see the prices here! Yikes! The vanilla latte was fantastic! Smooth with a perfect blend of vanilla and a pleasurable coffee roast. Definitely the best thing I ordered and which I can highly recommend. The burger was presented in a brioche bun that had been toasted a bit too much, making the top crunchy and a bit hard. The pickles, lettuce, tomato, and onion were fresh and sat atop a perfectly cooked medium burger patty covered in melted provolone. The odd thing was that beef patty had no flavor whatsover. Nothing. Any kind of sauce or even just mustard would have helped make this not be what it was: a very bland burger. The thick fries were pretty good though. The chocolate cake was disappointing even though my expectations were low as it was gluten free. The cake itself was moist but the chocolate flavor of both cake and icing was faint. The sweetness level of the frosting was what you'd expect at an Asian bakery (which, in other words, was a 0 or 1 on a scale of 10). Bland, boring cake. On the bright side, the service from staff behind the counter, at the register, and on the restaurant floor was excellent! And kudos to the barista. If you eat here while at the museum just keep your expectations low and your wallet wide open. read more

On my most recent visit to Los Angeles, my cultural journeys led me to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. And most distinctly to the exhibition on John Waters: Pope of Trash. I could think of no better way to boost my cultural credentials than learning more about the man who brought us film giants such as Mondo Trasho, Eat Your Makeup, Multiple Maniacs, and Pink Flamingos. After an hour or two of fastidiously soaking up a higher level of cultural enlightenment, I found that I had worked up a powerful hunger which led me to Fanny's, the restaurant in the Academy Museum. Fanny's offers a casual cafe, a bar, and a more formal, sit-down dining option. Since I'm a sit-down type of dude, as a result of my higher cultural quotient, I inquired about the formal dining room, but was informed that there was a wait. Bar service, however, was immediately available and snappy. I sadly resigned myself to bar seating, but just as I was about to order, a table had opened in the dining room. The dining area in Fanny's provides a contemporary dining experience which met my higher cultural values, along with prompt service. Glancing at the menu, I noticed most of the selections were tied to movie themes. I chose the Paths of Jidori Chicken, which slightly edged out the Some Like it Hot Steak Frites. Our server told me upon ordering that there would be slightly higher wait time on the Chicken, which was not a problem since I was still basking in my cultural high. The chicken turned out to be favorable and juicy. And the wait wasn't atrocious. So if you're looking for your own cultural expedition, don't pass up Fanny's. read more

By 1:00 we had finished eating and they were waiting for the DJ to arrive for the drag show.... we ended up leaving. Obviously sometimes things happen that can't be prevented, but it was a little disappointing. What bothered me more was that the restaurant calls this a "brunch" but there were absolutely NO breakfast-type foods on the menu - no eggs, waffles, etc. They did have quiche - my husband got the last serving. They were out of crab cakes so we had focaccia which, to be fair, was really delicious. The service was excellent - no complaints there at all. My girlfriend and I decided to grab coffee and pastries before our scheduled entry time for the Hayao Miyazaki exhibit. Absolutely love the interior of Fanny's - spacious, minimalist, and clean. We both got lattes and a honey tea cake to share. I thought the latte was distinctive and tasted great with creamy whole milk. The tea cake was kind of sweet but it went well with the latte. The drop coffee was fine. The "The Fanny Brice" was smooth with nice undertones, given how colorful it was. The restaurant and adjoining cafe area are beautiful. But... The "Healthy LA" surcharge. Because they're already charging obscene prices for wages, food costs, not to mention overhead--which should include your employees' healthcare costs. This is why I paid $4.50+tax for a small coffee. Since I come to the Academy Museum often for various events, I've had the chance to try Fanny's a few times just to give them the benefit of the doubt and see if my first, then second visits were just a ruse. Now with their third strike, I can indeed confirm that this is one of the worst places to get coffee or any related drink. I've tried their chai latte, matcha latte, mocha, and even regular coffee. Everything is absurdly overpriced. $8 for a coffee drink? Literal "lol". Nothing tastes good either. Honestly the price wouldn't even be an issue if the cafe located inside an awards related museum was actually worthy of an award. But this place doesn't deserve an Oscar, it deserves a Razzie. read more

*Note: It's a 3.5 :D* I passed by here after the Hiyao Miyazaki exhibit on a Friday afternoon and there was a short line ahead of me. We decided to sit inside and there were plenty of chairs available with silverware and napkins, servers would come by once in a while to refill water cups and accommodated when we asked for an extra plate. Cookie of the Day (shortbread peanut butter type): it was okay. it had a lovely peanut butter taste and the shortbread was a little crumbly but nothing stand-outish Chocolate Cake: the slice was so filling! It had an amazing chewy moist texture and not overtly chocolate-y, which is perfect! The frosting had this amazing twang of espresso. A tip: do not eat an entire slice by yourself. You cannot do it. Save yourself and share it with someone! Chocolate twist: a very solid chocolate twist. It had a nice fluffy texture. Iced Latte: I don't often drink a latte, in fact I never drink coffee because of it's side effects to my body but I craved since I do love the coffee taste. I found that this was slightly watered down. Now, this can what a latte actually tastes or because it was iced (it had ice), it watered the drink down. Caramel macchiato with oat milk iced: the caramel taste was not strong nor was there a super strong coffee flavor. It was a little bland. TLDR: the sweets were pretty solid but the caffeine drinks left much to be desired. read more

I was tempted to try them all! I tried the peanut butter chocolate cake and the meatballs. The chocolate cake slice was around $7 or so but it was a generous slice of cake! I thought it tasted really great! It wasn't overwhelmingly sweet at all and had a good peanut butter to chocolate ratio. I wasn't a fan of the meatballs though. Perfect way to celebrate our anniversary. They gave us a sweet card. Ambiance is nice. Easy to talk, love the booths, great drawings upstairs. Excellent service. They are used to getting people in and out for the shows so very efficient. But we were not going to a show so our waiter paced everything nicely. They were out of the focaccia. The halibut, yellow tail and asparagus was delectable coupled with wine and champagne. Fannys is a must experience and not sure what parking is like bc it's in a high traffic area but do offer valet Huge gem to experience with amazing vibes and no matter your dietary restrictions there's something for everyone but if you have a kosher diet, do inquire and the art curated for this space is a perfect addition and the music from the DJ was an added unexpected bonus. read more

Came by starving after the Academy museum exhibits. The restaurant is located right next door, the staff was great very attentive and fast. Food: Chicken Club sandwich - this was the highlight of everything we ordered food wise. It was extremely delicious and well balanced in the portions that they put on the sandwich. Cáprese quiche - The crust was delicious and the texture was very custard like with the egg, only thing was I wish they would have put some balsamic vinegar over the top in a light drizzle, it was missing a little more salt to my preference but I would order this again. It is also served room temperature and I wish it was served warm. Lemon cake - very tart, very sweet but not too sweet, it definitely had a good lemon taste to it. The frosting was whip cream and the slice was ginormous! Drinks: Espresso martini - this was our first time ordering this ever and it was so delicious. The bartender was a complete doll and she offered this specific drink. I'd never heard of it before and she mentioned it was a shot of espresso, two shots of vodka, and a shot of coffee liqueur, shaken. It was spectacular!!! A beautiful restaurant with a decadent menu, well suited to the tastes of those who love butter. Everything tasted good, but about 10 minutes into the meal I had to stop myself cause my heart was beating out of my chest. We ordered off the limited menu as per the servers suggestion, the Strata was a massive savory egg pudding, and while delicious I couldn't get through 1/5th cause it was so heavy. The Focaccia bread was big and fun to share, but doesn't resemble or taste like any other focaccia I've had and came with a massive serving of butter. The potato leek soup was mostly bland, tasting also of butter and incredibly heavy. I've had the fries and pastries from the kitchen in the past which were delicious, so I was surprised to find myself so overwhelmed by this meal. Our waiter did not take our orders or do much other than check on us near the end of the meal as a gentleman a table over spent a very long time loudly talking about his career as a director and occupied most of his time. I suppose it adds to the ambiance of the place, and the other staff did a good job of filling in. They came out quite large and definitely could have done less but they were all great. We had ceasar salad and the hummus with mushrooms and focaccia. I highly recommend the chicken with potatoes and carrots as well as the burger and fries. Definitely on the more expensive side here but the ambiance is telling to that as well. The manager was wonderful and checked on us regularly which was very nice. Was told to get the meatballs as they're supposedly a specialty here but come to find out they only have them on Sundays. Chose Fanny's for a recent business lunch. The space is stylish and modern and boasts some entertaining wall art that pays homage to some Tinseltown greats - appropriate considering its location. The food offerings are varied and perfectly portioned - not too big and not too small, many named after memorable Hollywood films. They offer daily specials and have a bar with a variety of options. Parking is available in the LACMA structure with the entrance located off of sixth street. If planning to come for a business lunch, opt for a noon time slot when there are less patrons, allowing for a quieter space. Great to have this restaurant so close to the office. The style and vibe of the seating inside is fun old school Hollywood, but the prices are LA premium for not a whole heck of a lot. We ordered at the counter and seated ourselves in the dining room. Staff handled a couple of special requests pretty well, although they forgot the chicken I added to my salad and that came out separately. The menu is small and expensive. My salad was fine, but my mom loved her carrot ginger soup and she said the bread was delicious. Will try it again and maybe just do the bakery selections which looked delicious. Or maybe just wine with fries? Kids menu available. The music selection was fun (all from films), but man it was loud. I kept repeating myself at the table because no one could hear me. What an overpriced waste of space. Nothing more needs to be said. Eat before you go to the museum or wait to find someplace else afterwards. Sadly mediocre food that should cost less than half what it costs. It's no wonder the place was empty when I went. read more
