I really love the asada tacos here. It's funny because this isn't even a taco place, but I find myself coming back just for the tacos. The asada is always good, but honestly, their green salsa is what makes it for me. It's my favorite! So flavorful and seriously so good with the tacos. The tacos are a pretty good size too. I have small hands, but they're about the size of my palm, so definitely not those tiny little tacos. If you haven't tried their asada tacos with the green salsa, you should. This diner, with its classic interior, is located in a strip mall. They're known for their breakfasts but I arrived to have lunch with some friends. I was overwhelmed by their extensive menu which is posted on the back wall behind the front counter. You order at the register and your food is brought to your table. I decided on a pastrami sandwich. The stoic woman at the counter asked if I wanted to make it a combo (fries and a drink) and, seeing it was a good deal, decided to go for it. I also asked for a chocolate chip cookie which I spotted in their pastry case. I poured a Barqs root beer from the soda fountain and joined my pals in a booth. My food came within five minutes. The sandwich was big and thick; I could barely open my mouth wide enough. A ton of thinly shredded pastrami sat within the roll it was served in, conveniently sliced in half, making it somewhat easier to eat. The pastrami itself was not exactly tender but not tough either, salty but with good flavor. The mustard and pickles were flavorful additions. The fries were plentiful and quite good. The fresh chocolate chip cookie was excellent with plenty of chips. It was the perfect finisher to my meal. This was a great diner-type experience. I'd even say it was "fantastic". read more

Came in here on a Saturday morning and ordered a Fantastic Trio burrito to go. The woman at the counter was super respectful and accommodating. She let me substitute the potatoes in the burrito with hash browns because I like it when the potatoes are crispy. In 10 minutes my food was ready. I really thought the place would be busy but it was not. There was only like two other people in there eating lol. After all these years, that burrito is still what keeps me coming back. This is kind our go to dinner when we don't feel like cooking and don't feel like going anywhere nice. It's basically an order first, find your table after diner so there's not much service expected but they do bring you your food. Very mom & pop burger joint but with some interior decorating theme. Their burgers and chili cheese fries are good. They have a free refill soda and iced tea (my preference) station. Portions are generous. I give -1 star because their bathrooms smeelll. They added a lock to deter the vandals but I think it might be one of those sewage pipe issues. read more

Just moved in the area and thinking this Fantastics was going to be as good as the spots on The West Side of LBC, on Lakewood, on back side of CSULB. But This one disappointed me and my family! First off... I ordered 3 main meals and I waited 40 minutes for my food!! People after me got their food first! Then... I get home. And y'all know about the Ranches and The Thousands sauces... Fantastic has a thick creamy taste. Everywhere I've been to has been the same except for here! One dip of our food in these ranches and my family threw it out like it was yesterday's dinner! My tater tots were dry and hard! My chicken for my taco salad was over cooked and hard to chew?? My chocolate milk shake was not the bizznezz! My family couldn't and didn't finish our food. But right away it smelled delicious. The vibe was good from the start. The Staff was very helpful, welcoming and served us with pleasure! I loved it. I wish I had a place like this back home. It was good! The staff is very nice! We got the huevos rancheros and the carne asada plate. The carne asada was sooo good. I've never had shredded hash browns like this that i've liked, but i really enjoyed these! Usually i go to the Norco location, and I don't remember the huevos looking like this. Not sure what all the sauteed onions and tomatoes were about. Not their fault; i just don't like veggies. I thought they were different at the other location. THEY ARE! I just looked it up!! I will preface this review by saying that I don't like to leave negative reviews on small franchise businesses and mom & pop shops, but sometimes things need to be said to address consistent issues. If I have a bad experience once I usually let it slide and I'll try again another day in hopes they just had an off-day that one time. I've been coming to Fantastic Cafe for years now and over time the quality of service ebbs and flows, which I understand that having a small business is a struggle. The food has stayed somewhat consistent over time and it's a good option for a restaurant-style burger; however, over the past year the quality of service has taken a nose dive. For the sake of this review I'll use my past two experiences as an example: A month or two ago I stopped-in to simply get my typical burger combo -- a double cheese burger with avocado, fries and a drink. The restaurant itself was empty apart from one or two guests, but they seemed to have some phone orders going. From the tickets hanging above the grill it wasn't overly busy. I stood in front of the counter (where every one else usually stands) and I got quick glances from the workers behind the counter. The glances are quickly reverted back to the grill and deep-fryer as if to seemingly ignore me. I know they see me, but not one person asks if I've been helped, need to place an order, or simply addressed -- they just ignore. And it's not hard because there's only two or three people behind the counter so I'm assuming between them it's easy to figure out if one of them has helped me out yet, which they haven't. I usually just stand there until I'm called-upon because I find it rude to say "excuse me, can I place my order?" because I don't want to interrupt someone if they truly are in the middle of something that requires their attention. But after 15 minutes of just standing there, of course another customer walks-in and walks straight up to the counter and one of the workers behind the counter spins around and takes their order without even asking "who was first?" So, I walked-out in frustration and went elsewhere because I felt like they didn't care about my business. I knew I would give them a second chance at a later time because this could have been their off-day. That second chance was today. Today was much like last time -- relatively empty with maybe three or four small groups of patrons, a couple customers waiting for their food, and three workers behind the counter. The tickets hanging above the grill were only a few deep, so I knew they weren't busy. I stood in-line in front of the counter and like deja vu I got quick glances from two of the workers which was followed by a quick snap back to the grill and deep fryer like they were too busy. Nobody bothered to ask if I wanted to place an order, or needed help, or whatever. I stood idly by for about 10-15 minutes when another customer walked-in. He stood in front of the counter as well and waited only a minute before one of the workers spun around and took his order. Yeah, that's starting to seem deliberate now -- not sure what the worker's problems are here but they're seemingly ignoring me only to help others first. The worker who was now taking orders just smiled at me while taking the other customer's order and once he was finished with him he was ready to take my order. I ordered my double-cheeseburger with avocado combo, so fries and drink were included. It took maybe 5-10 minutes for my food to be done, so that was a plus. While i was waiting for my food the customer who ordered before me even approached me and apologized, saying that he thought I had ordered already because the worker came straight to him first. I told him that it wasn't his fault and these guys were seemingly ignoring me, so I didn't hold any resentment toward him -- we kind of laughed about it and went about our day. Here's the kicker -- when I got home I checked my burger and I only had ONE patty -- a regular cheeseburger with avocado, fries and drink. Yet, I paid for a double cheeseburger with avocado, fries and drink. Yes -- I'm starting to think their service, or lack thereof, is intentional. For what reason? I don't know. I never complained about anything to them before. Never had an issue with them before. Typically, I place to-go orders and I'm in-and-out of there with minimal interaction. I'm low maintenance and I like to be the "easy" customer -- no crazy modifications, order directly from the menu, keep it simple, take my money and I leave. I've tipped in the past, but recently I haven't been leaving a tip simply because of issues like these. Sorry to say, but I won't be coming back here again -- which is sad because I prefer mom & pop restaurant-style burgers over larger franchise burgers. read more

We used to love visiting Fantastic Cafe - probably at least once weekly just to relax and enjoy any delicious food they serve, eventhough the service sucks whenever the nice & kind owner or manager is not around to supervise or "watch" the staff. Yesterday, we took our mom & siblings to this cafe, and had the worst experience in a local restaurant. So sad - we ordered 1 complete meal each and waited for 1 hour and a half just to be served unusually cold, substandard food, and not the usual generous portions on each plate. We heard the other diners saying the cooks were skipping the bigger orders while the smaller ticket orders are flying around delivered quicker! It is true because more than 8 tables of patrons have eaten and left while we and another family were waiting for more than an hour for our food. Thanks, Fantastic Cafe for ruining our mother's day experience at your restaurant. Highly suggesting that the owners make sure there is a manager or family on site to "watch" your tricky staff so they do their jobs properly and efficiently while you are not watching. To the staff, just so you know, when you think patrons do not understand you when you chat in spanish - you are mistaken! Even if we do not look like you, we understand what you say.
