I have been going to Far East Center for many years now. Simon and Angela and his sister have been really sweet to me. I go here because the prices are really good and they're super friendly. This place has been my go to for herbs and things like that. And if they don't have it, I usually bite the bullet and go somewhere else that's more expensive. This is my go to place first for herbs and things like that. I have been trying to find herbs that I can buy to help me with having nicer glow, glowing skin, and better sleep. For any of you reading this look into dandelion for sleep or cooking artichoke in a pressure cooker and drinking the water to help you asleep. It has worked wonders for me. read more

They were closed for a week due to LNY and that's fine. Came on Sunday and the gentleman who assisted me was super kind and was well versed in both English and Cantonese. I haven't been here since I was a child and I loved that they had a Latina assistant too! You'd be amazed a lot of Latin people were here for TCM herbs/medicines too! I love that!!! I also loved that they accepted my debit card. I never seen the Slim Teas in flavor versions before! This place had it! Citrus was delicious!! Now I take these teas when I know I've ate very poorly before or went to an Asian wedding the same night and feasted like a beast lol the next day you will have a very detoxing date with your bathroom. Emily at the counter was patient to tell me where to find things in the store. I was shopping for Chinese New Year sweet cake and was disappointed by the bakeries, and lost hope until I came in here. It looked like an herbal store of dried goods so I wasn't expecting much but this place is a combo of herbs and grocery items. They even sell organic quinoa and cassava flour here. I got some rice vermicelli and also mung bean thread noodles. There wasn't any candied lotus seeds here (global shipping problems) but they have all the other candied fruits. So I got a packet of longan. I asked for a recommendation on where to get bbq pork and Emily recommended a shop across the street that I have never noticed. Lin Hua has roast duck and bbq and fresh Vietnamese noodles but no Yelp page and a faded almost unreadable sign, so here I'm writing it. These humble storefronts have more than you expect to find! I remember these kind of places from when I was a kid and my parents would bring me there. I remember thinking - what a strange store with so many odd dried up things. So whenever I come here present day, my eyes are just all over the place! There is so much stuff! Tons of teas and dried weird things in jars. I think all herbal and good for you. Snacks and lotions and pills. I mean...what to make of this place? Price is pretty cheap on certain things as well. Workers are eager to help. I came in the morning to avoid the crowd. It doesn't look very appealing on the outside, but there's so much more inside. The good thing is they take card! They give you a receipt, but it's a finger-sized paper only with the prices of the things you bought so it's hard to double-check. Prices aren't inflated too. This is my new go-to to buy stuff that I cannot at Ralph's, Walmart shipping, or HMart. I've sent more people to the Far East Center to get naturopathic relief from the flu, pneumonia, a bad cough, bad breath - whatever ails you, the these guys can kick it out of your body. I went there a week ago, just diagnosed with bronchitis. My western doc wrote a scrip for a Z-Pac. I've done my share of antibiotics in this lifetime - so I opted for a trip to Far East Center. It's a bit of an adventure. Make sure you go with an extended lunch hour, and be patient. Weekdays are best, weekends a LONG wait. Enter and walk all the way to the rear on the left side. You'll see a small desk with a kind, tiny woman named Mary Li who checked my blood pressure, pulse, symptoms, looked at my tongue, and stared through my eyes like she was diving into my soul. She then wrote down the most beautiful Chinese characters on a piece of paper (my "prescription") and sent me to the guy who fills it. It took him 15 minutes to fill four packets with what looked like bark, seeds, orange peels, eye of newt - who the hell knows? He spoke no English, and Mary couldn't translate what the ingredients were. I took these home, boiled them, drank them as tea twice a day - and four days later my symptoms were completely GONE. Warning: the tea is the worst thing you'll ever taste. Just suck it up. They've healed everyone I've referred. You have to take these herbs as instructed, or they won't work. And if you're suffering from a chronic illness, best to talk to your regular doc. The consultation with Mary is $13, and the herbs were $32. Not bad. I have insurance, but came here because their herbs work miracles. read more

Far East Center is the best place to go to or stop by when you are in Chinatown! They have a huge selection and a wide variety of tea, coffee, ginseng and chinese medicine. If you're not there for any of those, they also carry a whole section of snacks and have a refrigerator for drinks as well! I usually come here to get all my tea and ginseng products for my family and aunties and uncles. Whenever they get a chance, they always come to Far East Center first when they arrive to Chinatown in LA. As for medicine, when one of my family members get sick, they always come here first to get checked up before they go to an American doctor. They prefer the traditional Chinese medicine with herbs to cure their sickness. What is cool about this place is that they actually do have a doctor who gives you a check-up like a regular doctor. You tell them all their symptoms and they will tell you exactly what you need. I tried this plenty of times when I got sick before. When I drank the herbs (of course you will need to prepare the medicine first; they will teach you how) that they provided me, I was cured within 3 days! However, I recommend calling them first to see if the doctor is there. You can also ask them to put your name on the waiting list if the doctor is there! For a Chinese store, I must say that their customer service is great! I usually get one or more workers at the other stores in Chinatown following me or staring me down like I am a criminal! However, at this store they will leave you alone. If you have any questions, they are always delighted to help you out and explain what medicine is what and what people take it for. This place has a lot of east Asia herbs from dried herbs to tea bags form. They have many varieties of ginseng panax to Korean ginseng. I love that they have he shou wu, dong quai, and reishi and many other teas like oolong, puer tea. Hands down it's good. And they have someone that knows English. This morning I jumped on the metrolink anxious to get downtown where I shop for tea. Wing Hop Fung has been my tea heaven for some time. When I arrived this morning I found the door locked, for good. This location is no longer in business. Needless to say I was disappointed. The Far East Center is directly across the street from my now defunct dealer. The store front sure doesn't look like much but the sign said they had tea and I didn't want to come home empty handed (good tea is impossible to find in my town). I wasn't expecting much and there really isn't much there. I bought pound of what was labeled Grade A Oolong and another pound of a fermented red tea (black really but the infusion is red). I am drinking a cup of the latter right now and I very pleased. In fact I will say it is better than what I used to buy at WHP and for a better price. If you like tea like I like tea I highly recommend the Far East Center. read more

This place is awesome. They carry full variety of the "dry goods", south to north, as so called in traditional Chinese way. Ethnic snacks are on shelf too. Quality here is great. The store assistants and staff are very friendly, nice, and helpful. They explained when I seemed confused. They even told me how to use such ingredients to make such and such thing. I've been quite into herb tea recently, and developed the idea of mixing dried osmanthus and licorice there, also got high quality fructus here. Accept cards. Yay. Since my grandma doesn't have a yelp, nor a computer for that fact, I'll just write this review for her. We visit about once every month when she goes to the doctors. She loves this place. It's mandatory to come here every time we go to Chinatown. She basically goes on a shopping spree buying everything from tea, sour/dried prunes, coffee, chinese medicine and snacks. Okay. No parking. Cheap prices inside. It's a Chinese herbal shop, also sells random food. There's a Chinese Herbalist inside, she speaks some English. She's quite good, she could touch your wrist and tells you which part of your body is not healthy. "She's a graduate student from Shanghai Chinese Medical school, very experienced" that's what says on her business card. Chinese medicines heals slowly to cure the overal function of a person's body, and western medicine heals fast, but just aiming at a certain thing, like a cold. this is my first review ever!!! =O!!!!!!!!!! these types of stores aren't usually my thing, but as i was exploring chinatown i found this GEM. it's a store that sells a lot of super herbal stuff i.e. ginseng, etc. (LOL that's the only herb i can name). but they also have this doctor in their store that prescribes herbal treatments for whatever ails you. i thought that was super cool. natural treatments vs. downing a bunch of chemical concoctions? count me in!! they're also super big on this diet tea thing, but while i was there i heard a bunch of miracle stories so if i was ever in the business of looking to shed a few pounds, that detox tea would be my first bet. anyway even if you have no reason to enter this store, you should go in just to look around. THERE IS SO MUCH RANDOM CRAZY STUFF.
