This building has been around since 1700s and was formerly a general store and tavern. All of the menu items are freshly prepared in house using organic ingredients directly from the farm. These are a couple of the lunch menu items I explored: Homemade Hibiscus Iced Tea: This herbal beverage has a reddish color; its appearance is different from an original iced tea. The drink was very refreshing with a slightly tart taste. Farm Burger: This ounce angus patty includes lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and a secret sauce. I also added yellow American cheese for a $1 up charge. I cannot identify the ingredients of the secret sauce, hence the name. It was really tasty and I requested a small extra cup on the side for dipping. For the most part, this was a tasty burger. Next time, I will request to have the patty cooked medium well because I feel a well done burger compromises its flavor. This cafe also serves as a farmers market; they sell grocery items such as homemade honey and farm fresh eggs. There is ample indoor and outdoor seating. I've always wanted to come here whenever I pass by. I finally went and got a breakfast sandwich. It was on the expensive side but service was great, ambiance was of a farm, but the bacon egg and cheese I bought was absolutely delicious. Everything tasted like it was better and fresh. The sandwich was fresh off the grill that I had to let it cool down, only because I learned my lesson by taking a bite anyways! lol definitely will come here again, I wish I could come everyday but that's not possible lol. read more

Fun place. Fresh eggs, fresh ice cream in pints, fresh cookies, fresh pies, burgers, and you can feed chickens! I drive by here all the time and finally had a chance to stop in for their burger. It's grilled on the spot when you place your order, and while it's good, the show stealer is is the ice cream. Great flavors that you'll fight over, it's almost it's hidden secret. If the hidden secret wasn't already being to put coins in the dispenser and getting chicken feed. The coops are just down the farm, a short walk from the outdoor benches. Wouldn't ever return. Stopped in to get honey and egg, then saw they made fresh food. We gave it a try. The scrambled eggs were fine but the cheeseburger was awful. It came without cheese. I asked to have cheese put on for what I paid. He brought it back - slapped a piece of cold cheese and brought it back. I said would you eat this? He goes ugh no, I go exactly I'll take a refund. He was careless about the customer service and seemed like he was bothered I wanted what I paid for. I would never return. read more

The cheese burgers were well cooked and a good size. The fries were tasty. We purchased 3 pies, 2 jellies and 2 dozen eggs also to go. The pies were an apple, pumpkin and a pecan. I like that the pies don't overload the sugar. The crust was a bit soft even after baking for longer. The jellies were a blueberry and peach and are both delicious and also lower sugar. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I found the two items (hamburger and pulled pork sandwich) that I ordered to be just average. The hamburger was unfortunately dry, and while the pulled pork sandwich was tasty, the size was quite small. Considering the rave reviews by other Yelpers, it is possible that the chef just had an off day with the dry hamburger patty. Farm Cafe also has cookies, pies, and ice cream so maybe I will go again in the future to try these out. If you're a fan of chickens, there are a lot of kitschy chicken decorations and objects inside that make for interesting viewing. read more

I come here occasionally for a lunchtime burger. I've only ever ordered the "Farm Burger" and fries so can't remark on anything else. The Burger is prepared in the back when ordered. I get it with cheese, the sauce, and dragged thru the garden. Its an honest burger in a good bun that does get a bit sloppy towards the halfway mark. It's been been consistent for the dozen times I've eaten there. The place seems tidy and clean and it's a comfortable space inside or out. read more

I bring my Mom here for lunch often. There are a few tables inside and rustic seating outside. They make everything there with farm to table ingredients. Simple, but good food. We always get a sweet treat too...yummy baked goods made there. Proceeds from this restaurant help support the historic homestead across the street. read more

Drive by this a lot. Always a full parking lot, so decided to drop in and get a taste. On the menu was the farm burger. Not sure where the meat is sourced from, but it had a signature sauce. Probably some mix of ketchup, mayo and something else The burger was very filling, and the fries were the best part. As for the bun, not sure if it is made on site, but my opinion is it a little too thick and dense. Definitely a filling meal though. Will return again to try other items like the cookies and such. read more

I've driven past this hundreds of times, I finally stopped in to try the chicken pot pie. Pretty good--Felt over salted and I wish the pie crust was top browned but not bad! The burger was also very salty and over cooked but not the worst farm burger I've had. The star of the meal was the hibiscus iced tea--wow I loved how tart and delicious it was. I want to come here again and try the pot pie one more time, I've seen all the reviews saying it's great! Their pickles are also $2 on the menu--if you head down the road to Old Hook Farm they sell big fat juicy sour dills for $1.25. I used to come here years ago. The egg sandwich was my favorite before work. My Sous chef and I would come every morning usually. I went today and the egg sandwich completely changed. It used to be nice fluffy egg with fluffy bun. We received a burnt bun burnt egg and the whole sandwich tastes like pepper. Plus it was wrapped up too tight and wrong squished the whole sandwich like Bigfoot stepped on it. Coming from a chef perspective if you want to do farm to table fresh cooking. Lightly season. Cook the ingredients right . Plus the cook drew all over each sandwich wrapper like a child drawing cartoons. Called it a "sandwich egger" or something dumb. Even drew pictures of a fried egg on top? Honestly this guy should be fired in my eyes. So I pretty much paid 20$ for 2 burnt greasy sandwiches. Sucks too because my dad is in the hospital with brain cancer and I thought bringing him one would cheer him up. I threw them straight in the trash. Didn't even want to feed it to him. Thanks "farm cafe!" Haha you're literally shaming your chickens if your using their fresh eggs with this. What a joke. Again I own multiple successful restaurants and this is just done all wrong. What a great little spot to stop and smell the roses or chickens as the case may be. They have a nice assortment of perishable goods to purchase as well as lunch food items. Assorted soups, jams, honey, pies, fresh eggs and all the goodies that you can get on a farm house. For lunch we got the kids chicken tenders and fries, the wife got tomato mozzarella wrap and I got a pulled pork sandwich. The tenders and fries were solid, the kids love them. I would even get them upon return if the mood striked. The pulled pork sandwich was nice, a little too sweet for my taste but still good nonetheless. I live five minutes away. Five. For six years. I've passed this place THOUSANDS of times and never gave it a second thought until today. Super cute little farm stand with tables outside (not today it was 37 degrees). We ordered at the counter, 2 burgers with cheese and bacon. Fries, onion rings, 2 boylands, split pea soup and 2..."burnt chocolate chip cookies". Burger was sizeable, flavorful and fresh. Fries and onion rings were excellent!!! Soup was good but not great but honestly we had so much food it didn't even matter. Now these cookies...intentionally burnt. I own a bakery and mentally I was struggling with this concept and then...I ate it. Best cookie I've ever eaten. Entirely different than the style of cookie I prefer. It was like an adult chips ahoy. I need to go buy 50 of them. Outrageous. 100% will be back, def when it's nice out for the outdoors and homemade ice cream. And 50 burnt cookies. At the corner of Old Hook and Schraalenburgh Roads in Closter, stands the Abram Demaree Homestead. Since 1769, it ran as a General Store and Tavern at one of the busiest intersections of colonial roads in Bergen County. In the 1970's, the house and property were falling apart and a group of citizens fought to get the homestead on the National Register of Historic Places. Since then, the home and farm have been part of a non-profit with all the proceeds going to restoring and maintaining the home and farm. The house today is a clean and organized antique store. Across the street is a smaller restaurant and bakery called the Farm Cafe. During the summer months, tables are set outside for enjoying breakfast and lunch while admiring the fields of flowers, the barns and chicken coops. Stopped in for a bite and ordered their 8oz Angus beef farm burger accompanying lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle, crumb cake and good old fashioned birch beer. It was juicy, tasty and hit the spot. To walk off the meal, my partner and I took a short walk through the fields of the Old Schraalenburgh Farm admiring the rows of basils, zinnias and tomatoes to the restored Dutch-style barn dating back to the 1780s with a steeply pitched gable roof and the fenced-in chicken coops. I went a few weeks ago, as I was in the mood for a good burger, and was curious about the burnt cookies. I ordered a burger with cheese, fries, a mango lemonade, and an assortment of cookies for dessert. The service was pleasant and friendly, the food was decent, and the prices were what you'd expect. The star of the show, in my opinion was the burnt cookie. Crispy on the outside, moist and chocolatey on the inside. I'll definitely be returning sometime in the near future. 8/10. read more

This was my first visit to Farm Stand Cafe. It was a Saturday at 10:15am after finishing the nearby Haworth 5K race. You'll notice honey everywhere. I ordered the Farm (cheese) Burger and also grabbed a brownie and pumpkin ice cream. I enjoyed my meal while watching other customers and listening to 20 minutes of Jimi Hendrix. The burger was not juicy but the sauce made for an acceptable tasty substitute so that it's not dry. The ice cream was amazingly fresh albeit the hay, grass and hair I found in this farm product. Just because it may be unintentional and foreign doesn't mean it is toxic since it's still healthier than the frozen chemicals sold in supermarkets. I ate the brownie three days later. What a find, thanks to Yelp! I got a notification about this place and realized it was about 10 mins from my house so stopped in to get lunch. I have passed by it on numerous occasions but didn't realize it was a cafe. They make a really big burger for only 6.95 and it was delicious! Served with lettuce tomatoes, onions and pickles. You can also add bacon and cheese if you wish. The beef was well seasoned and made just the way I like it. This place is a non profit organization which is dedicated to providing food to the needy as well as educational programs. They have a beautiful old homestead house on the property from the 1800's that is open Saturdays and Sundays and sells antiques and things on consignment. A very interesting place and I will return on a weekend to see the old house. They sell homemade ice cream, pies, and the teas are really good. I had the hibiscus tea a d you can really taste the fresh hibiscus. Definitely a spot I will frequent now that I know it's there. read more

Me and my daughter have ordered the egg and cheese on a roll. It was delicious the bread was so fresh and tasty. Today we ordered the crispy chicken sandwich it was excellent the chicken was fresh it had condiments like lettuce and tomato it had a pickle it was everything I wanted in a sandwich. Nice concept. Farm fresh eggs and vegetables but I'm not sure where the meat comes from. The hot chocolate was very hot and it was good but the milk was definitely store bought since I saw her pour it from a regular commercial milk jug. The staff were very nice and quickly fixed my order when I pointed out that they brought the wrong item. We enjoyed the food and felt it was a solid 4 star just not quite 5 stars. I would come back here when I'm in the area but there are a lot of other interesting cafes and restaurants in the area that I would like to try first. read more
