A pretty modest and small breakfast and brunch place in the city. This place doesn't get too packed on the weekends and is perfect for a quick bite or an hour sit down brunch with a friend. There's minimal seating inside--Probably 8 people max. Outside seats about 15 more people. The prices are pretty cheap and service is pretty quick. Egg on Croissant: Egg, cheese, ham, and lettuce inside a fluffy crossaint with mayo. To be honest, it's just average and kind of bland. Only the ham gives the sandwich taste. Got to visit my absolute favorite brunch spot in SF @farmtable. They are a local micro cafe specializing in sustainable and local ingredients. It has been a year since I last visited, and I kick myself for not coming back sooner. It was one of the first places I visited when I first moved to the city so it has a special place in my heart. If you're looking for a quick breakfast spot with sustainable food this is the place. Egg on Croissant: So simple yet absolutely delicious and my favorite here. Choice of Ham or Avocado with cheese, creme fraiche, and greens. The creme fraiche really ties the dish together. Bacon Quiche: Delicious, and simple with a perfectly flakey crust. I'll have to order one just for myself next time. Frank the Pug n Honey Latte: A perfect latte, with ample amounts of honey and milk. (Still dreaming about this one ) It was named after the owner's dog which we thought was so cute. Nutella Latte: This was our lesser favored drink, and we thought it could use a bit more nutella next time around. The espresso was still great. Honestly, I wanted to give this place 4/5 stars but the food kinda left me wanting more. After seeing countless Yelp reviews about how amazing the daily toast was, I ordered that, which was pretty pricey for toast ($8). However, I quickly realized the quantity matches the price, since the size of the toast was huge. While I adore mascarpone cheese and fruits, the fruits were just not sweet, and didn't really go with the flavors of the bread and cheese. The peach was hard and bitter, and the grapes really had no flavor to them, which was overall pretty disappointing. Not sure why all the other Yelp reviews are complaining about it being small and having nowhere to sit -- it's a micro-cafe so I'm unsure what others expect, but don't expect a dining experience here. I've wanted to come here for a very long time and finally made the trip to SF a weekday morning to try the food and coffee here. The pictures all looked really cute so I was excited to try it out. I walked here from the Powell Bart station which took around 10-15 minutes. What I didn't realize about this place before I came is that it is SUPER TINY. When you walk inside, there is a huge communal table in the cafe and the cashier counter and that is it. Other than seating around the communal table, there are a couple bar stools and 2 little tables outside the venue, so seating is extremely limited. I think they could make use of their space a little better indoors in order to accommodate more people. Fortunately, on a weekday at 11AM, there weren't too many people here and there was no line so we could sit comfortable and enjoy our food. That is likely not the case on the weekends. The food here is very pricey for the portion size. My friend ordered a daily toast, which was pretty loaded with fruits and nuts. I ordered the egg on a croissant which was however very tiny. For an $8 sandwich, I expected the croissant to be larger at least, but it was super small. The sandwich consisted of 2 hardboiled eggs that were cold (I would've preferred warm eggs and softboiled), mixed greens, some sauce, ham, and cheese. It tasted okay but definitely wasn't worth it. Wow! I can't express how much I love this place and the ownership. The concept is great, the idea that the items and prices change with the source daily and everything is still delicious and affordable. I came here twice, once to redeem a free coffee voucher I had and the day after with my partner and dog because I was really interested in the place and wanted to try more menu items. Check the website for the daily hours and menu which are subject to change and know that there can be a wait. We were lucky to find parking easily and be seated immediately when we came around 11am on a Friday but I can see the place getting crowded. We ordered the breakfast burrito and doughnut breakfast sandwich and we were not disappointed. The breakfast burrito was hot, flavorful, and all the components were cooked perfectly. The doughnut itself was really soft and doughy and its sweetness complemented the eggs, bacon, and cheese really nicely. When I stopped by for a coffee, I got the Nutella latte which was also pretty solid. This place is also a must visit for any dog owner. She puts out a water bowl and a ham and cheese snack for her furry visitors and it's a really sweet gesture. There is only 1 big table inside (good for sharing with other diners trying to hide from the heat) there are also tables outside but I wish they would out umbrellas eapecially summer is coming. I am the king of wishful taste-making, so why are you making eye contact with me? Yet another reason for you to be on your knees. I discovered today that I may be on the edge of relevance for the Yelp populace. What a rush, what a thrill...and how did I come upon this presumption? Well, I actually went to the place that is rated "hottest" on this site at the moment, farm:table. It actually isn't that far away from me, but it does require me to steel myself to take the 19 Polk, the passenger list of which would not be mistaken for the guest stars on an episode of "The Love Boat". More like "The Meth Bus". Come aboard, they're expecting you. After sauntering on Post for a few blocks, I was surprised to find this to be a blip of a place. There is a distinct Gallic feeling to the decor with the red outlines, and it actually does consist of a French farm table, fully occupied when I got there. Their ever-changing menu is on a chalkboard column, so you pretty much get what they have. I was there for a late lunch, so I went for both the $8.50 Prosciutto and Pesto Sandwich on a crunchy baguette and the $5.50 Cream of Tomato Soup (see photos). Fresh-tasting for sure. The baguette was just the right texture. The soup had a dollop of olive oil, a bit on the lukewarm side but still a treat for the clean flavor of it. Since I really couldn't sit inside, I secured one of the two petite tea tables outside in the bitter cold. I did get self-conscious slurping soup as derelicts would slow heir pace to stare at me. However, I don't fault the staff who were nothing short of attentive and cordial through my entire experience there. By the way, I did bypass the Verve coffee beans this time in favor of their $3 glass of unfiltered apple juice (see photo). I think once they clear out the ice rink at Union Square, I'll come back and get the food and coffee to go since it's only a few blocks away. I really thought I would like farm:table. I wanted to like them too. An ever changing menu with locally sourced fresh ingredients? How can you go wrong with that? On this Thursday morning, I ventured through the tenderloin to find out what this place was all about. Alas, so many things about this place were not just not good, but noticeably disappointing that I most certainly will not be going back. I'll start with the stuff that was only mildly disheartening. The menu is not really a menu at all. They offer a toast option, which is really just butter toast with some cream spread on it and fruit/nuts dumped on top. The other option is an egg sandwich. Aside from that all that they offer is some pastries and a salad or some vegetarian dish I can't recall. So we have a subpar menu with almost no options to start. Next I will point out that there is all of one table for all of their customers to share in this tiny spot. And it's not like you're going to be getting take out when your meal consists of a carefully balanced fruit arrangement on your fancy $8 toast. Ok, whatever, I can deal with that and squeezed myself into a seat on the table being shared with four other parties. I ordered the toast, because the other option is the egg sandwich and could see from the other people eating it that it was nothing special, basically just a soft boiled egg on a croissant. The toast was average at best. I saw them preparing it and it was literally something you might make for yourself at home with whatever ingredients you have lying around. The service though... I don't even know what to say. All that I ordered was the toast and it took them THIRTY MINUTES to bring it out. When I asked the server what was taking so long she nonchalantly said "oh right, I was supposed to make your toast huh?" So she pulled out one slice, smeared some cream on it and put the fruit and nuts on top. Why did she not do that thirty minutes earlier when I ordered from her? No idea. What a terribly run operation. Hopefully the owner realizes that like many of the other reviews state, their employees have a bad attitude and provide poor service. I thought I would be turned away for not wearing a retro hat or sporting expensive ear buds. Cosy venue with limited seating indoors and only one person taking orders, making coffee and delivering. The constant line of 3-4 diners kept the poor girl busy. Kudos to her for remaining calm and polite. The lack of indoor seating means that you have to hit the street. Benches, tables and a wooden garden nook (?) plus an iron railing were eclectic but surprisingly comfortable and convenient. All I had was a flat white. It was good, real good. If you plan on dining in, you must arrive early. We arrived about five minutes before open time during a non-busy week day and we were the first customers. A few more customers trickled in shortly after. There are seats outdoor as well but not a whole lot. - Portions are tiny. I ordered the Empanada which suppose to be a meal but the portion resembles half an appetizer. I ended up adding a ham and egg croissant to my order which toppled my breakfast bill over the $20 mark (tip included). To be fair though, the food here is locally sourced so it makes the price a bit higher. The overall experience was good. Everyone had a good time and enjoyed their meal. Two out of the four people in my group ordered an extra meal because of how small the portion is for the Empanada. You should just know what to expect before coming here. My cousin Vanessa D. loves to support sustainable local spots like farm:table so I suggested it for breakfast while we were up in SF. We weren't looking for something heavy so we stopped here since it was nearby the hotel. Little did I know, the menu is very limited and the place is tiny. There's a communal space inside that consists of one table with benches all around. It seats about 6-8 people max. The place is a quarter of the size of a regular coffee shop and unbearably hot inside. We opted to eat outside just to cool off from the warm interior. I ordered the wheat toast with mascarpone, apples, and caramel. The toast was more like slices of wheat sourdough, chewy in texture. The mascarpone was perfectly flavored with maple and the apples were a lovely touch. The caramel was a failure. I expected gooey but was met with hard candy. I didn't like the caramel at all. Overall, it was good and healthy. I also ordered a decaf latte. They were unable to make me an iced decaf latte. Judging from the size of the kitchen, the chef had to deal with, I don't blame her. I'm glad I ordered the hot latte instead because after a few minutes of sitting outdoors, it became chilly again and having something warm to drink was most welcome. The coffee seemed to be made with a French press and there were a few grounds at the bottom of my cup, not so much that it was gross, but enough to make note of. They had raw sugar available and their food is made with fresh locally derived ingredients, hence the name farm:table. They also offer almond milk as a substitute if you're lactose-intolerant. I love the concept of the place, but wish there was a more extensive menu and seating area. With the healthy options and the eco/sustainable mantra, farm:table is a neighborhood favorite. The second I walked into this place I hated it.....I wouldn't call it a Resturant but more like a big closet with an espresso machine...It has three small tables, sink, small countertop and crappy lighting. No laptops, No videos, No talking on phone and No FaceTime... basically, NO FUN !! This closet is located in the heart of Silicon Valley and Tech central....can you imagine no Tech in Tech central ?? I asked her what else can I do ?? Sarah said, you can enjoy a conversation with others..... I asked her if 1972 called and wanted their Resturant back ?? Against my better judgement, I followed her rules and ordered breakfast. As I waited for my tea to steep, there was one person after another who arrived and Sarah greeted them all by name. They came into grab a coffee and say hi to Sarah...and now me - I was there for all of 15-min and became a fast friend to anyone who entered. Just alright! Let's talk through some of the top items: 1) daily toast It sure is absolutely instagrammable, and the whip cream is definitely nice and unique. Definitely leaves you thinking about it. BUT, the crust was burnt tasting for our taste, and didn't love the texture of the bread. PLUS, the overall bite just wasn't amazing. 2) croissant breakfast sandwich It sure is a decent croissant. But the egg isn't runny, and there's not much else special to the sandwich. No lovable aoili, or other amazing element. Again, it did look beautiful. Loved the cheese and its melt. Good, but not SF institution quality. Same as 1. 3) charcoal latte Quite nice. Not too sweet. But a hint too much cinnamon for our taste. Overall not the best specialty latte but a nice one. The mocha and charcoal definitely come through. And tasty, well pulled espresso, as well as steamed milk are always welcome. 4) flat white Our milk was a bit scalded. It almost burned to drink. So this wasn't your typical Australian coffee drink. But the espresso was indeed quite good. Arriving at 8:30am is the move. No line and got seats. Nice vibes when not too busy and nice staff. Nice people to bump elbows with nearby too. Overall-not sure why this is an SF institution. It's no tartine, mill, b patisserie, or any of the other places we SFers cue for. This place was fine but nothing to rave about... It was more of a local neighborhood place... probably not worth the hike I did to get there LOL. I got the egg croissant sandwich since one of the other reviews said it tasted like eating off a farm (or something to that effect). Honestly it was just a regular sandwich. The place is small and there isn't much room to sit. I wouldn't say this is a great place to get brunch with your pals. The food was decent but expensive. The drinks were fun and unique! I think this would be a great place if you are in the area but not worth a special trip. read more

Solid 4 stars! I was working from home and had to run down to FedEx for something. On the way home, I decided to pick up a quick lunch from farm:table as I've been wanting to try it anyway. I picked up a yummy braised chicken sandwich - flavorful, tender chicken, loooooved it!! Also had a salad with strawberries, cheese and balsamic dressing - very fresh, great balance to the chicken sandwich. An iced coffee that hit the spot and kept me awake all afternoon as I worked away. Plus a peach muffin to save for breakfast for the next day - enjoyed this! I would definitely come back! What a quaint, cozy little place to get yourself a healthy meal and do your body some good - looooooved it!! :) read more

I made plans to come here with Nina Y. for our weekly Sunday brunch. It turned out to be pouring rain, but we went anyways. First I thought how nice it would have been to sit outside in sunny weather, but instead I had to pounce on some of the new spots at the bench inside farm:table. This place is tiny! Most people stopping by grabbed a latte and pastry, but we were intent on trying the delicious-looking food. While I was waiting for Nina to arrive, I ordered a Pug N Honey Latte, which was amazing! Perfectly sweet. Would recommend. We split the Daily Toast and Egg Croissant. Both were so good. The Daily Toast is topped with mascarpone cheese and tons of fresh fruits. Makes an aesthetically pleasing IG photo if I do say so myself... the Egg Croissant was also very filling and tasty. If you're coming with a friend, I would recommend splitting. The service is excellent. They do a great job at keeping the line flowing. People sitting at the large bench don't seem to stay for hours, so it shouldn't be a long wait for a seat. Would recommend trying to come here during nice weather, ordering food and coffee, and having a seat outside. read more

We had a delicious breakfast here. Very cute small neighborhood centered cafe. The owner was handling all the tables, drinks, food, and some business phone calls all at the same time. Lovely regulars jumped in to assist with water and menus. Even though she was very busy she was friendly and the food was great! A bit pricey, but what isn't in SF. read more

If you're looking to be yelled at for asking for a side of anything then this is the place for you! Conversations that were had between us the customer and the owner/chef. "What's your favorite thing on the menu?" -Don't ask me that. Dumb question to ask, I am the chef I make it all don't ask me that. "Can I get a vegan burrito with a side of salmon." -That's really weird and stupid and the burrito is huge you don't need it. Stupid combination, no. When she came to clear the plates, instead of politely saying excuse me or are you finished can I clear this, she shoved my friends body and grabbed the plate. The food was clearly fresh and made with care. Sadly, our interaction with the proprietor felt unnecessarily standoffish. I understand SF is a busy city but it's just deflating to feel like you're an inconvenience to the folks that inherently should be making you feel welcome. I genuinely wish them well and want to support the rootsy, local model but I won't be back. read more
