Although I have lived in the apartment complex right behind this location for 5 years now, today was my first time actually coming in for a haircut. I had a specific stylist that I was seeing routinely, but the location in Eastridge mall randomly closed one day and I lost touch with my stylist. So I've been going around trying different haircuts/hairstyles but I still haven't found anybody that could give me the kind of hair I'm looking for...although I have a round face, I had just started to foster the idea of going short, yet all the stylists I've seen for the past couple years just couldn't seem to make that idea/dream come true... until today!! Yelp, you did me wrong. I literally just had my hair cut at this place and had to write a review. All i needed was a simple trim. I have (well, "had") really long hair, almost down to my waist and I just wanted to get rid off the split ends and have the length evened out. I called this place the day of and they were really friendly and booked a 1pm appointment for me. I was looking forward to going in because of the reviews people left about how great they were. I explained to her that I wanted 3 inches taken off. "This much?" she asked me, holding up a chunk of my hair. "No, a little less" I told her until she adjusted her hands to a length I was comfortable with. I was thinking, cool she knows exactly what i want. Wrong, so terribly wrong. She cut off almost half of my hair, which btw took forever to grow! And it wasn't even done well. It seemed like she was in a hurry, even though no one was in there, and finished up my hair in less than 15 minutes. I gave 2 stars because she was really nice... but nice won't make my hair grow back any faster. read more

Ok... To start off, I called and she immediately booked me which I was excited about. I called my original hair stylist first but unfortunately they were closed. Today is my only day off until mid September, so after reading some yelp review, I decided to go for it. Everyone is right about Kathy, she is extremely nice. She's been in the business for 17 years. I respect that. The place is very tidy and modern. I booked her early and was seated right away. I like her because she doesn't pass me off to other stylist and just focus on me. Customer service was decent. Here is the problem. I want to blame myself for the way I look. I feel that Kathy and I did not understand each other. I wanted red( like cherry red) and blonde ( like platinum blonde). She agreed and told me it was going to look cute. I was excited, but when she said it was ready, I reminded her that I wanted it to be blonde blonde. She told me thAt when it's wet it looks darker, but when it dries and I go out into the sun it will look lighter. OK? After blowdrying my hair myself because I guess it wasn't a service that they provide, I knew that I had made the worse mistake by coming here. I paid and tipped like normal. When I got to the car to look at it, I flipped out. I swear, miscommunication! It didn't even come close. I called a couple of friends and tried to do some damage control. All they could recommend was purple shampoo to lighten the blond and make it not so brassy looking. I went to work assuming that maybe it wasn't so bad. After 10 people commented on my hair I knew I had to go back. I went back and the reason why I'm giving her 2 stars instead of one is because she tried to fix it. She didn't charge me for fixing it and I thought that was cool. Overall, she was nice. The hair color and hair cut was bad. This was my first time coming here. They've been in that plaza for 6 years but somehow I've never noticed before. Cathy was the one who cut my hair and she was super nice. She just gives off a warm and happy vibe and as she was cutting my hair, she kept asking if it looked okay or if I wanted any adjustments. My hair is very hard to cut because it's kinda curly with a lot of cowlicks. I was in and out of there in about 15 minutes with a great haircut and the price is very reasonable too. I called and got an early morning appointment right away which was sweet...but I should also have taken it as a sign. It's also very true you get what you pay for, after having tried several more pricey places & never being satisfied I read the previous reviews and decided to try something new. Mainly I was interested in getting new bangs and a slight trim and I came with several photos and had a pretty long conversation with the lady cutting my hair and I thought she understood what I wanted. Previous trips to the salon did not yield what I wanted so this time I thought I came prepared. The trim was good...but the bangs...oh my goodness...it was a disaster. I don't even know if you could call them bangs it was so awkward and odd....it's too difficult to describe and I'm too horrified to take a picture of it. One of the things I hate about moving to a new city is having to find a good barber - it's really a hit or miss situation. I've been here 3 times now and each time I've had great service and a good haircut so I'm comfortable giving this a 5 star rating and claiming this spot as my new barbershop in San Jose. This place gets a huge plus in my book for being open past 6pm. They're open till 7pm which makes all the difference in the world when I'm trying to commute from work to find a barber near my house. On my initial visit I actually drove by 3 other shops along the way which were already closed. Who closes at 6pm when most people get off work at 5pm and have to fight traffic going home? I keep forgetting the name of the lady who cut my hair each time, but I'll get it next time I'm in and update my review. I made an appointment on a saturday afternoon. When i got there Kathy was finishing up so I didn't have to wait long. She was really nice. My hair cut took a while because I asked her to take off 2 inches but realized that it could go shorter. She was very patient and I can tell she's dedicated. I ended up pay $25 + tip. I came here to get a simple trim for my dead ends. Very little was cut which was good. My complaint is at the end when going to pay for it, as I'm giving my card, the lady whispers $30 and as I asked "wait, how much?" She had already charged my card, meaning she added a $10 tip on top of the charge which was very disappointing. Being new here, I looked to Yelp to point me in the right direction. The two cute Vietnamese ladies at this place took great care of me, I walked right in without an appointment and was seen immediately. This is a great place to go for a haircut. I started getting my hair cut at Fashion Cuts when my husband and I moved to this area. Every time that I went in, Kathy did an amazing job cutting my hair. She was very friendly and very confident in what she was doing, and got me in and out very quickly, without rushing. I brought several different pictures in the times I went in for haircuts, and Kathy would follow the pictures and what I asked for, but she would also offer her expert opinion on any changes that would look good with my specific face shape, hair type, etc. In addition to doing a great job cutting my hair, she was very friendly and made me feel very welcome and comfortable. The woman had no idea what she was doing, didn't know how to suggest a style, had no clue about layers, didn't know how to blow dry my hair. on the outside this little salon looks like your typical mom & pop-type place, and in that sense i guess it is. it's located in a tiny shopping center on almaden expwy across the street from chevy's & tj maxx. the salon itself is very clean and i was warmly greeted. i called in for an appointment and even on the phone i was pleased by kathy's very welcoming and polite manner. she was no different in person! kathy, who speaks excellent english, asked me what i was looking for and took the time to listen to all my concerns (my hair is thin, i want a wash & wear which will grow out well since i'm giving birth soon, i want to keep the length, etc. etc. etc.) i went without a picture or any style in particular-- i just had nape length, horribly overgrown shaggy layers with overprocessed ends. kathy went to work quickly and efficiently while making pleasant small talk. towards the end, she slightly blowdried "just to check the ends" and then she snipped some more for more precision. i liked what i left with very much-- and for only $15!-- but the true test would be whether or not it would look good air dried (which she assured me it would, because hello, that's what i asked for), and it did! i washed and let my hair air dry and got cute little flippy ends (leftover bodywave) and very minimal frizz. my hair feels & looks MUCH healthier now and i'm happy to report that for a teeny tiny price, i got a great cut! moreover, i felt like i could trust kathy with her scissors (she's been doing this 15+ years) and even recommend her to others. she was a tad bit of a drive for me since i don't live anywhere near that part of SJ, but i'm so pleased with her skill, service, and warmth that i'm looking forward to introducing my son & picky husband to her. i will update after she takes a stab at hubby's thick waves-- i'm guessing she'll be just as good with his non-asian hair texture! read more

I needed a last minute haircut today, and after calling several other local high priced salons and being turned down due to scheduling conflicts, I decided to see if Fashion Cuts would take me. As soon as I called, within two rings, a cheerful welcoming lady answered the phone and told me that they absolutely welcomed walk ins and that I should come over whenever I could today. I was absolutely thrilled that they accepted walk ins, so I showed up a half an hour later, and waited approximately 10 minutes when the stylist was finishing the haircut of the man that had come before me. There were only two people working in the store, but it wasn't busy, so it wasn't a big deal. The lady who cut my hair clearly spoke with me before cutting my hair and we both reached an understanding on how I wanted it done. I was in and out within a half hour, and my haircut was definitely satisfactory. I don't know how well their other services were (they also offered a few salon services), but I know that I would definitely recommend Fashion Cuts to anyone who needs a good haircut asap. Plus, the interior was definitely nicely decorated. Mostly, I was pleased that this was NOT just another cheap supercutsy-like experience, where one ends up leaving with crappy hair and a bad experience. Their pricing did worry me a little as in "I hope my hair isn't cut off a lot" we ALL have had this experience before and know it sucks to have your hair a lot shorter than you asked whether its a trim or a haircut. Well, this place knows what they're doing. I came in with the intention of a trim and style (straighten) my hair is naturally straight at top and the rest is wavy. My hair was badly damaged by the bleach (my hair is blue) and I wanted to get the ends cut off. Keep in mind my hair is thick and past shoulder length it has taken me forever to even get it this long, I took hair pills recently and had not dyed my hair for months so imagine my worry of just simply getting a trim. She did as stated in some reviews use a clipper but she does know how to use it. Within minutes she made my hair look like it was never bleached. She cut off all the dead hair and still managed to keep my hair style as well as the length (happily surprised). Unfortunately/happily did not style my hair. She complimented my natural hair and I won't lie, I always have insecurities about natural hair but she made me feel like a million dollars walking out that door with natural hair. She even gave me some free samples of hair products. For $25 I'm extremely happy. I will say that prices all VARY, even though the sign says $20 for haircuts it is actually + so expect to pay a little more. It is worth every penny. Found this place on Yelp. I went in looking for just a trim and add some layers to my hair. I didn't get Kathy because she was just leaving once I walked in. It was her anniversary. So I opted for another hair stylist. I asked just for a trim with about say... an inch or so. Once I see that she was done, she had indeed added layers, but they were way too short and not what I had asked for. The layers did not even look nice. it was blunt in some places and choppy in others. Also, my trim ended up from 1inch to 5inches that she had cut off. I was devastated. The lady was nice, but I was not happy with how she cut it. She even confimed with me with her fingers about how much I wanted cut off. Not coming back. the haircut would have been $25. read more

Went here a month ago because my bangs were halfway down my face and I was starting to look wild. I never know where to get my hair trimmed because I don't want to pay $50+ for a trim at a nice salon, but don't want to risk getting my hair butchered at a cheaper place. So, I trusted Yelp and went here based on the average 4 star review. The lady cut my hair with a razor, which totally frayed my ends. I thought salons stopped doing that a decade ago? She sliced off my bangs and they ended up being uneven and way too short. I had to clip my bangs to the side for a couple weeks. My bangs still haven't evened out yet. I think it will take another month to recover. At least she did a good job on the back of my hair, and evened out my cut. Based on the yelp reviews, I decided to try this place myself. I didn't make an appointment but just decided to do a "walk in". Well Kathy greeted me warmly right away. The place is pretty clean like everyone has mentioned. I just got a basic trim with layers, nothing complex or drastic change.
