Service: As someone that knew nothing about jewelry originally, i immediately felt comfortable with Abe. He sat me down and educated me before making any decision, which is exactly what i would hope for when making such a large financial decision. He is a trusted individual that always has the customers best interest at heart. He was not pushy - he gave me the best price possible - and made sure i felt comfortable and happy throughout the entire process when picking out an engagement ring. When picking out wedding bands he spent hours with us making sure everything was exactly what my wife and I wanted. As a guy, who never wore a ring before, he showed me not only whats popular but he was nice enough to model every ring for me on his own hands, which gave me a better idea of what I'd look like with it on my hand. I had a very disappointing experience with this business. I initially brought in two rings, one for…read morereshaping and another for a diamond replacement and repair. The ring that was repaired was significantly over-polished, and I was given a replacement diamond that did not match the quality or grade of the existing diamonds in the ring, which was visibly noticeable. I returned to the store, where I was told the diamond grade and gold weight had not been recorded, though they acknowledged the over-polishing issue and diamond grade issue. I was then informed that a casting would be ordered so my original diamonds could be reset due to the over-polishing. However, when I returned, I was told the casting could not accommodate my diamonds because they were different sizes--meaning the stone measurements were not taken before the casting was ordered. At that point, I was told a fully custom ring would need to be made to fit my diamonds, which made me very hesitant. Eventually, the custom ring was completed, but I was not satisfied with the result. The color of the gold appeared different, and I was never informed that the original ring's weight had not been documented. I later called to confirm whether the ring was solid gold and was told it was. However, only a few months after receiving the new ring, it has significantly bent. My previous ring lasted 6-7 years without any structural issues, so this level of bending so quickly is very concerning. Overall, what started as a repair issue turned into an ongoing problem with communication, quality, and craftsmanship. I am very disappointed with the final result and the overall experience.

They were from the start honest and straight to the point. I finally was able to pop in and have them look at my ring to see if possible. They told me yes, left it with them, and to come back the following day. When I got my ring, which again I have had since my now husband proposed back in 2013, it looked fresh and new (the same way it did back then). The soldering looks amazing and the ring feels great. I showed up on a Saturday morning and was immediately helped. The staff was super friendly, and able to find the right size for my ring while also taking into account finger size fluctuations. The whole resizing, rhodium dipping experience took about and hour. The store is on the second floor of a building which has elevator access. Came here yesterday to get the latch on my silver chain fixed. I've had to get this same thing…read morerepaired two other times at two different jewelry shops, and both of those places charged me money and made me wait at least 3-4 days to get the chain back. Not Kathe's Jewelry. I walk in there, expecting to just drop the chain off and pay some money for the repair job, but the guy working behind the counter (who I think also co-owns the place???) took my chain to the back for literally 30 seconds and then came back with it good as new and told me it was free of charge. He even gave me an old-fashioned handshake at the end like we were longtime friends. Made me feel like a special man walking out of that place. At any rate, if you live in the East Village or anywhere near it, don't go to any other store for your jewelry repair. The guys that own and operate Kathe's are so friendly and down-to-earth, and it looked to me like they were selling some nice pieces, too. 10/10.
