Good food, but not as good as some of the more expensive places in town. I would classify it as a mix between a hole-in-the-wall and a greasy spoon... a delicious, unhealthy, cheap-eats, hidden gem. For the newbies to Fast Wok, there are a few simple rules: 1. Take cash because they don't accept credit or debit cards. 2. Expect to wait in line when you go because this place is always packed. Do not make a comment about how long it's taking... you'll only get the stink-eye from regulars. 3. Know what you want when it is your turn to order-- do you want a single (one entree/meat and rice) or a combo (2 entrees/meats and rice)? Do you want white rice or fried rice? Do you want extra "gravy" on the rice? Yes. Yes, you do want extra gravy on the rice. 4. It's cafeteria-style, with a rotating menu. There is no "have it your way." You can't 86 the onions, because it's already made when you walk in. There are probably 9 choices of entrees each day, but the menu rotates from Tues/Thursday/Saturday and Mon/Wed/Friday. Sunday has it's own menu as well. You point at want you want and she slops it (I use the term "slops it" lovingly) into a large styrofoam container. For a little over $6, I order a "Double" which is 2 meat choices, plus a heaping portion of chicken-fried rice. I always double up on the spiciest Thai chicken dish that they have, though (Gai Pad King) rather than selecting two different entrees. Their portions are very generous and I always, always, eat half for dinner-- still feel full-- and take the other half to work with me the next day. If you're on the east side of town and you want to try something filling and tasty, give Fast Wok a chance. I bet you'll keep going back. read more

This is the best. I have been enjoying meals at Fast Wok for nearly 20 years. They opened October 1994 at East Gate Mall, and were there exactly 10 years. I have been enjoying the new location for 10 years now as well. The food is addicting, nourishing, and delicious. At one time or another I have tried everything. The Cheese Rangoons are a favorite since they do not have crab. The Egg Rolls are the best anywhere. The one dish I wish they would bring back is their Sweet and Sour Pork. It was amazing, but is no longer on the menu. The Sesame Chicken is probably what I would call their signature dish, and is almost universally loved by all. I even like their unsweetened iced tea. BEST ASIAN CUISINE IN INDIANA!!!!!! I grew up on the east side and we ate here ALL the time! Now I live in Fishers and I make the trip to get Fast Wok at least once a month! The owner is always there, the food is AMAZINGLY fresh, and every dish is as delicious as the next! Try the SUPER HOT chicken or beef (Gai Pad King or Pad Pede Nir)... spiciest thing on earth! Great portions, great prices, great staff! The only downfall is that you have to have cash, there's ALWAYS a line, and the customer's that you encounter while waiting are rude and have very few manners... This is a PLACE ive been coming to for so long,,,way back when it was located at the Old Eastgate mall,, this food has consistently kept TRUE to the recipes all these years,, i know its been at least 20 years ive been coming there,, its so GOOD,,THAT it only takes cash as payment,, and in this day and age,, i don't carry cash ,,i gotta hit up my bank machine, which is a pain in my ass,, but id not complain,, because the food is so worth the trouble, and trouble it is!! Sometimes i have to park at another business and WALK down the hill,, in rain,, snow,, ice, then when i get inside the line can be an hour ,, more or less,, but the customers,, like me line up. HAPPY to do so,, a lot of us chat,, being strangers,, yet have a common love for the dishes!!! Also,,i ALWAYS think of the old Seinfeld episodes regarding the SOUP NAZI,, lol,, cuz we all follow the rules,, walk in line ,do not cut in line,, and when its your turn to order,, we are clear, consice,, know what we WANT and happily give them our cash!!! U get a lot of food for the money,, a BIG thing is asking FOR GRAVY ON YOUR RICE, cuz every sauce is just mouth watering,, the spring roles are made fresh to order,, as are the cream CHEESE wontons,, Yummmmmy, also fresh fried chips are available,, i ALWAYS get a DOUBLE,, u can pick TWO entrees,, for just a few MORE bucks!! Love the food. Reasonably priced. Appears to be clean and kept. Generous portions. Always a line of hungry patrons but service is efficient and the line moves quickly. I hate to say it, but I will no longer eat here. My boyfriend introduced me to this place 2 years ago, and since then, we have gone very frequently. It is the BEST place for rice and all their entrees are always delicious and plentiful. The women who work there are so nice and they always remember us. For the past 2 years, we have said nothing but good about Fast Wok. Today (December 18th, 2012) we went in at around 4:00 PM to get our usual. I get a regular of szechuan chicken, and he got a combo of garlic chicken and beef pepper steak. We decided to eat in, and immediately when I opened my box, I was hit with an intense aroma of something similar to dirty dish water. I tried a bite and it tasted differently as well. It was inedible. I was really upset, because it was the first time I felt like I had to ever complain about the food here. I asked my boyfriend if he could go up to the counter to get me beef pepper steak instead to replace my meal, since I didn't eat anything but one bite of my meal. When he went up there to complain, it turned into such a huge deal. He tried to be nice about it, and not compare the smell to dirty dish water in front of the other customers in line, so he just said it was different than usual. The lady that I am assuming was the boss, seriously defended the szechuan chicken, saying there was nothing different about it. She asked for me to talk to her, and I told her it didn't smell how it normally does, because I get it all the time. She made me try the beef pepper steak to make sure I liked it, even though I told her we have had that before too. I assured her that the beef pepper steak was fine, and then she said, VERY loud, "Good, because I WILL NOT do this again for you! And I must be crazy, or you are pregnant, because nothing has changed with the szechuan chicken!" She said this in front of all of the customers, embarrassing me. All I wanted was to replace my meal. And she got so angry at us for complaining for the first time in 2 years. She basically called me crazy, and made me feel horrible for saying anything in the first place. I am sorry that we respected you guys well enough to not say what it really smelled like in front of the other customers, but now I am personally offended by the way the management handled the situation, and publicly embarrassed me. Absolutely best Thai Chinese food we have EVER had! Quality is over-the-top. Value is incredible - prices very reasonable and portions enough for multiple servings. Fast Wok's fried rice is best in Indianapolis...in entire USA probably! Take cash - only currency accepted. Expect long lines at peak meal hours, but very worth the wait. My favorite place my Chinese food. I have been visiting fast wok since they were in eastgate mall. If I want Chinese I go here. The food is consistently the same great taste, same great portions, and goodness. I love Mongolian chicken but I have never had a bad dish from there and I'm always able to have 2 days of food. Been going to this business since I was a small child in Eastgate mall, excellent food and portion sizes and the price can't be beat. Cash only is a little inconvenient but I understand why it happened and plan accordingly. However I have had trouble even getting to this place because the lines are consistently 45 minutes to 1+ hour long with very slow movement. Not enough staff to serve the amount of customers and not enough staff to cash people out. I tried to come after work today and the line circled from in front of the counter, past the front door and seating area, and then around the next side of the building. I couldn't even see the end of the line from the front door. I can not stand for that long and there isn't a call ahead/carry out option for people like me. It's not a question of patience for the wait, it's the physical toll on my body that I can't take. No weekend hours means I can't come on a day off at opening to get my fix. I hope some changes are made soon, I'd love to enjoy their food again. Tonight I had to leave and I've seen lots of people doing the same once they walk in. read more
