I stopped here on a whim a few weeks ago. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but this turned out to be a hidden gem. The servers are wonderfully friendly and things move pretty quickly in terms of service. The food has massively large portions, and it is so good. I've lived in Texas and Southern California, so my standards for Mexican food are pretty high. I've really struggled finding some good Mexican food in the area, but this is really authentic and well flavored. I tried the fat burrito, and it lives up to its name! I got three meals out of one burrito. The next time I came, I got the taco salad. It had so much meat and other things on it. It was really delicious. Maybe Fat Burrito is one of the more authentic places down in the Merrillville area. I don't know... I went there today and didn't find FB to be that great. It's a small taqueria style place, which is fine. The chips and salsa at my table were OK. I liked the salsa, but I prefer more of the thin and crispy chips. These were on the thicker side. Anyway, it was fine. I ordered a stuffed pepper burrito (fat = large). OK, first of all, nobody needs to order a fat burrito; WAY too huge. Not knowing that my first time there was too bad. I asked the waiter if these were like Chipotle size, but he told me he didn't know because he'd never been there. I guess that makes sense... :-) Anyway, this thing was so big and it comes covered with sauce so it has to be eaten with a knife a fork. Kind of meh... I only finished like 2/3 of it. More importantly, the burrito itself was kind of bleh. Not bad, but pretty much bland. Maybe the normal veggie burrito would've been better / safer for a first visit choice. I also think it had too much lettuce - which probably contributed to the blandness. The service also could've been better. After getting me my food and drink, the waiter never came back to check on me and I'm not high maintenance or anything like that. I just would've liked a refill on my Pepsi. I had my last few bites... dry... if you will. Anyway, instead of waiting around, I walked up to the front counter to pay so I could leave. Some of the best Mexican food in Indiana. Fried corn tortillas for the tacos, with real meats and not that ground imitation junk. The big draw here is the Fat Burrito, for which the restaurant gets its name. The behemoth has outmatched many challengers, few have finished it in one sitting. Filled with perfectly seasoned grilled vegetables, your choice of meat, then drenched in a cheesy sauce, I make it a point to return here whenever I'm in town. read more

First time here and it was an Incredibly disappointing experience. We placed a take out order. Upon arriving home with our order, it was evident that the extra lettuce and tomatoes that we asked for and paid for were not present. Upon contacting the establishment we received an apology and proceeded to drive back to correct the issue. Upon returning to the house to enjoy the corrected burrito it was once again revealed that the extra lettuce was present but there were only 6 tomato pieces. Another phone call was made and a clear answer as to why could not be ascertained. At this point the cost of fuel and the aggravation was not worth dealing with. Have eaten their food twice. Both times very consistent with quality. Had steak tacos and I'm very very picky about steak tacos and I give them a four out of five on steak tacos. Little hole in the wall small & quaint place. Don't give up if they Don't answer the phone right away they were very busy just keep calling. I got the steak burrito dinner plus salsa. It was almost $16. Burrito was average size. Small portion rice and beans. I got food to go. I live 10 min away. Rice and beans were cold by the time I got home. Burrito was bland, oily, with soggy lettuce. My dog enjoyed it, but I'm gonna have to pass on this place. read more

The food is okay. The service was really good. Our waitress was really nice and did a great job taking care of us. They have massive burritos...but mine was filled mostly with lettuce. Found this place in a snowstorm when everyone else was closed. It is some of the best Mexican food I've ever eaten. Had the Gorditas dinner and Fat Avacado burrito. The service was fat and polite. Loved my meal and so did the family. Waiter checked on us frequently and was prompt with our food orders. Good food, fast and inexpensive. I had the 3 taco dinner - it was HUGE! Husband enjoyed the regular steak burrito - also a good size . One note: I originally ordered the hard shelled tacos - expecting authentic corn tortillas fried in oil - but got Taco Bell shells - I sent it back for soft shells - much better! Went there picked up 2 fat burritos.... Sunday night . They are a lot different then when they first opened.. besides costing a pretty penny almost 30$$$$ for just 2 burritos. We ordered the steak . IT WAS ALL SHAKE STEAK , I MEAN NO CHUNKS WHAT SO EVER! That was only I'd say 1/3 meat the rest was lettuce.....don't waste your money not worth the money. What a rip off ! Besides having to beg the guy for hot sauce. They went down hill use to be our favorite place for burritos not anymore. I'll go down the block for my burritos from now on! Trying this place out due to the rave of my coworkers, I visit on 8/17/17 to give it a go. As I enter the establishment, its clean and cool with friendly faces of the staff asking us to take a seat anywhere. We get complimentary chips and salsa, the chips were corn based chips and the salsa.. tasted like they watered the tomatoes with salty ocean water from the Atlantic itself. I ordered a horchata with a burrito dinner and some tacos, just to try out what they were offering. At first glance, the regular steak burrito is a good size, steak, lettuce, sour cream, and fixings were balanced nicely in the burrito, it also comes with refried beans and spanish rice. The lengua tacos were filled beautifully with chunks of meat, sprinkled with lettuce, cheese, and tomato over a flour tortilla. Everything looked great so I go for a bite of the burrito.. holy cow, the blast of salt dehydrated my tastebuds immediately, so I try to dilute it by scooping some rice and beans in, but to no avail, those too, were showered in salt. Trying to find a solution, I look on the table to find salt, pepper.. and ketchup? Since none of those pertains to what solution I'm looking for, I ask our server for a bottle of hot sauce. I pour a good amount as I ate, from the new bottle, I may of used 30-40% of it! Other than that, it might be an unknown amount of time before I return. I would give it a zero....but I can't. Today we spent about 200.00 there for lunch on a Togo order. They forgot 2 meals and argue with us for 5 minutes( if not longer) to get the missing meals. A friend of ours( who speaks Spanish) had to talk to them for us, in order to get the food. We have been going here for years. Now we will never go back. Terrible customer service. And all over 15.00 dollars of food they did not give us. read more

The burritos have to be over 2000 calories a piece, but like everyone has said, you'll never finish one in one sitting. Believe me, I can inhale an entire pizza from across the room, and even I couldn't finish this thing. But you'll really enjoy trying. The only meat I've tried in my fat burrito is pork because it was that good the first time I had it. It's pastor-style - bursting with flavor, grilled, yet tender. I haven't been here in months and I can actually taste it in my mouth right now. BTW for those who might be confused: when you're done eating here, you go up to the front to pay.
