Cinnamon sugar, strawberry frosted, and glazed
    Maggie B.

I enjoyed these doughnuts! As others have noted, they were quite large and definitely shareable. The dough was fresh and moist. My favorite flavor was the glazed. The strawberry frosted was okay, but the frosting was a little too sweet. The cinnamon sugar is also worth a try.

Fat Doughnut was sooo good!! Picture this. I woke up at 1:30am to get on a plane home to NY at 5am. I dragged myself out of JFK to the airtrain then waited on the morning J for 15 minutes. My blood sugar was dropping, and I had a dire need for something sweet. I planned to stop at a cafe near the Kosciuszko stop, but when I went to open their door it was closed!! As I searched for other coffee spots, I realized how close Fat Doughnut is. With my bags and intense sunburn, I voyaged over and am so glad I did. It's a small shop, and I wish they had labels so I could see which donut is which, but there are still a few tables and spots to sit down inside. I ordered an iced coffee, a maple glazed donut, and a cinnamon roll (I'm not me when my blood sugar is low). The iced coffee was really great, and I didn't have to pay extra for syrup in it. I was shocked and amazed. I paid around $11 for everything, and sometimes you can't get an iced coffee for under $6 in Brooklyn. The maple glazed was so delicious. You can definitely taste a bit of the oil, but I didn't mind at all because for me it seemed so fresh. Really one of the best textures I've had. I went home before having the cinnamon roll as my blood sugar issue was solved. A few hours later, I toasted the cinnamon roll and it was really yummy! Not the best one I've had, but it was pretty solid. I will be back soon!

The person working said the maple glaze was their favorite donut. Bought one and took it home to eat. I took a bite and thought, hmmm tastes doughy. I looked closer at the donut and realized it was RAW! The glaze was good I guess.

Best doughnuts ever. Pillowy, chewy, huge, and the frosting on the vanilla tastes like dunkaroo frosting

Small selection of doughnuts, but they're each pretty large and good to share! Poppyseed roll + classic menu of coffees and lattes. Great stop to get your carb fill! Fat Doughnut has free wifi and some tables too if you're looking for a spot to work.

The donuts are great. They're fresh, full of flavor and light. But my goodness, the breakfast sandwich is even better!! I had bacon, egg and cheese on a croissant and it was delicious!

    Breakfast Platter to go

I came by last weekend after running errands and there was a line but it went quickly. They were already out of a few donuts at 11:00am but still had a good selection. I ordered the chocolate and glazed donut along with the breakfast platter to go. It took maybe 10 minutes for the food so I ate a donut and coffee. They have a smaller space but do a lot with seating. A group of 4 would fit along the window or by combining two tables together. The donuts were fairly large and delicious but my three star rating is due to the breakfast platter. I ordered it to go so wasn't expecting nice presentation but everything was wayyyyyy overacted. The platter comes with two hash browns and I wasn't able to eat either of then they were so salted. The eggs were also over salted and they only provide one piece of bacon cut up. The donuts and coffee were great but that's likely all I'd return for.

There was a limited availability menu as well as there regular menu, so we ordered from both: Chutoro Sashimi ($27) - included 6 pieces of fatty bluefin tuna, that could be paired with a wasabi kizami (chopped fresh wasabi stems and leaves marinated in soy sauce), and aged soy sauce. Fish was fresh and the pairings added nicely to each bite. Crab Somen ($29) - included somen noodles, a cold crab dashi, with tomato ohitashi, herbs, and chili oil. The broth was very salty but it didn't cling to noodles well. Adding some chili oil helped a bit, but the star was the cherry tomatoes. Without it the dish would have tasted plan. I was not a fan of this one. Japanese Breakfast Set ($30) - normally the set comes with a roasted market fish, assorted seasonal vegetables, nanatsuboshi short grain rice, and almond miso soup. We swapped it for the limited time Misozuke Tuna Belly, which was dense, meaty, and was marinated in a saikyp miso. The tuna belly was flavorful on it's own, but adding the lemon and green kizami (not sure what this was made of, but it had a pickled, relish, citrusy, savory umami flavor) made it more enjoyable. The rice was fluffy and the light meaty floss on top paired nicely together. I was impressed with the egg and pickled side. Egg texture was like a custard tofu fusion, and I really like the julienned pickled radish. The miso soup is different from regular Japanese restaurants since it had a roasted nutty depth of flavor. This set was delicious. Chicken Katsu ($18) - included panko-fried thigh, b&b daikon, katsu sauce, and mustard. The chicken was juicy dark meat, portion size was a good. I like how they added crunch with the lettuce and sliced daikon. Note to only add a little Japanese Mustard because it was hot. Hottokek ($20) - This is a Japanese Souffle Pancake fluffy hotcake, with honey maple butter, and sesame. When looking at other tables, I understood why people only ate from the middle outwards. The core of the dish was a good souffle, with a soft, airy, creamy texture, in conjunction with the butter and syrup. However, due to the size it's difficult to maintain that quality throughout the whole souffle. The outer layer just tasted like a Chinese sponge cake. Would have liked if there was more butter and syrup provided on the side. The dishes come one at a time so it's not overwhelming to eat, especially when you have a small table and you order a lot of food. The prices are a little steep, but service is good and staff was attentive. It kind of shares a space with a wedding venue, so you can hear and see guests walking, which is interesting. There are 5 individual bathrooms provided, as well. Overall rating would be a 4.5, but I rounded it up to a 5 since I would want to come back again.

The owner is Mauritanian, and the couscous reminded me of the ones I've eaten in the northern reaches of Senegal, with tender potatoes, carrots, and cabbage. I had been hoping for something closer to kosksi, but the dish was enjoyable nonetheless.
