After a didappointing experience elsewhere in grand central market, I decided to head here for a hopeful redemption. I was not disappointed! This is by far the place to go for friendly staff, flavorful coffee, and cute decor. I got a hot latte with oatmilk and lavender flavoring. It was delicious and exactly the kind of pick-me-up I needed on a cold day in LA. I also got a slice of chocolate chess pie. I walk by Fat + Flour just to stare at calories as I walk through Grand Central Market regularly. My brain and tummy are always debating to try their pies and cookies. Finally, my tummy won the debate and ordered a key lime pie to go. The desserts here are a tier from the norm since the owner and pie baker here is an award-winning pastry chef. You can tell from the taste of this pie the reason why. Slightly reminds me of Tommy Bahama Restaurant key lime pie which I'm a fan of. Except you'll never see me in one of those T.B. shirts. Perfectly tangy and not too sweet with buttery graham crust ($7.00/slice). The other desserts look good here too from the cookies, pudding, brownies. Worth a try if you're in the area. read more

the lemon lavender cookie is REALLY good with the perfect balance of lemon and lavender, with neither overpowering the other, but quite small for $4. I got a slab of the pecan marshmallow brownie (gluten free) and the worker told me to warm it up in the microwave. DON'T. LOL. I gave it a few seconds and it literally melted (duh, since there's no flour holding it together) and just became a glob of chocolate, oily mess. I tried to salvage some of it, and luckily only heated half of it up so i had some left that was still edible, but ended up tossing the warmed up half because the oil seeping out and the mound of chocolate mess wasn't worth the effort. read more

Cute decorations and decent coffee. However the two girls working were complete b*tches. You don't have to be overly friendly but she was not paying attention at all. She wore glasses and had slick back low bun. I told her my order and she gave me a rude look. I ordered my latte iced and when they called my name she gave it to me hot and when I said it was iced. My very first time at the Grand Central Market (GCM) in Downtown LA last weekend (this was 44+ years in the making... you gotta read my GCM review to understand its context LOL). Street parking is available for $1.50 per hr max 2 hrs. What an amazing place... mass number of interesting restaurants, drinks, desserts, and other vendors... probably need to vacation a whole week to try out everything LOL. On my way to sit down and eat, I was drawn to the pies at Fat + Flour (F+F). So I stopped and asked what is their most popular pie... answer was key lime pie. I've never been a big fan of key lime pie except when I was at a restaurant in Key West, FL (don't remember the name). Anyway, I splurged on a $7+ key lime pie slice... yes just one slice LOL. Price was a tad hefty, but I only live once so why not. It was actually pretty good... not too tart, it had the right amount of sweetness to balance out the tartness. Would I buy again? Sure, but I may try another kind of pie next time. I was curious about the name Fat + Flour, but I guess Fat may represent butter and Flour is flour. Just interesting how these vendors come up with their business name. If there is a pie vendor close by, I will find it. And so I did, on a recent visit to the Grand Central Market in Los Angeles. After visiting two different food vendors (for appetizers and mains), it was the auspicious hour to treat myself to some pie. Fat and Flour has both cream and fruit pies, as well as cookies (all are in limited selection). My favorite, at any pie joint, has always been the fruit pie and this time, I had the opportunity to taste something totally different - a stone fruit pie. On inquiring, I was informed that the pie contained peaches, plums and nectarines. I gleefully indulged in a slice. The crust was crumbly and crisp, had nice texture, good mouthfeel and not too sweet. The fruits were fresh and provided a satisfying wholesome taste and good marriage of flavors. The slice cost $9. Worker with the bangs and glasses was extremely rude, horrible customer service. My girlfriend and I stood at the counter for 2 minutes ignored. Then we bought 2 cookies worker said nothing but "Here" and handed us the cookies. We walked to get ice cream then went back to the counter they offer to eat at. As we were eating the worker came from behind us and yelled at us in such a rude manner and said "You need to leave if you're not going to buy anything" my girlfriend proceeded to say "We did". The worker then came back and said "sorry I didn't know" then wiped down the counter so we had to move. A little time passed and got up to throw away our trash and the worker offered my girlfriend a cookie to make up for her horrible customer service she rejected the cookie and we left very upset. I arrived to pick up and was the only customer at the stall, the woman saw me, kept her back to me and continued her task at hand behind the counter. A few min later she indicated she'd be with us in a couple minutes. Weird. She couldn't find our online order via Tock, and gave us pie regardless. I got a few of their cookies to try also. If you watch British Bake, you are familiar with the term "Soggy Bottom" and if you enjoy a Key Lime Pie with a wet bottom this pie is for YOU!! It was a First & Last for me. This is a cute little bakery inside of Grand Central Market. We actually visited them 2x during our stay. The cookies are big, chewy and delicious. Each cookie was $4. We were wowed by the key lime pie from fat + flour that we had at a restaurant a while back and drove 30 min and found street parking on a weekend hoping to get a fix at their downtown location. Once we finally found the stall in grand central market, we lined up behind some folks. They were helped and once we stepped up immediately behind them, we noticed another patron who had start a line from the opposite end. He offered to let us go, we offered to let him go and did a little polite back and forth. Ultimately I started to go ahead and then, after we had decided who would go first since neither the gentleman nor we cared, the heavy set woman with red hair and a chest tattoo working at the bakery decided to chime in that "the line goes that way" pointing behind the man. It put all of us in a weird position. I replied, "we were behind who you just helped and they came from this way". She continued to take a tone with attitude and said, "well the line is this way," and proceeded to speak to the man and help him, ignoring us and forcing him to now step forward -- you could tell even he was embarrassed for her. Her poor timing and her lack of basic manners and regard for all customers lost the bakery business as we were planning to purchase several slices. It was a very disappointing experience. We will certainly never be returning to this location and it will be a long time before I consider fat and flour again. It's too bad that such a stellar product is being ruined by one garbage employee. She put a negative energy on the business and the food. read more

I'm giving 4 stars simply because of how much I enjoyed the lemon lavender cookie. Usually I find lavender infused things too "perfumey" but this was subtle...so subtle that I didn't even really notice it (but I could see lavender buds) and the lemon wasn't too tart. The cookie had a crisp edge and great chew, my favorite kind of cookie. Really enjoyed it. The oatmeal chocolate was okay, that lemon just really stole the moment. It was a little too thick and was just lacking in something. I can't put my finger on it. If you've ever had Emporium Pies, I'd prefer that over this. The attitude couldn't stop me from coming back eventually lol because the cookies are just so darn good. Their cookies have the perfect texture of slightly chewy and moist and have a rich deep flavor, not just one-noted and overly sweet like some bad cookies i've had. I always get chocolate chip but even when i tried a flavor i normally don't prefer, chocolate chip with M&Ms, (because they didn't have chocolate chip that day), it was still a really good cookie. I'm angry at how good these cookies were. We got two: vanilla sprinkles and a chocolate chip bourbon (or something like that). From the first bite, I was in love. They had that perfectly soft, chewy inside with a little crunchy layer on the edge and outside.
