Staff were friendly and attentive. Fish and chips were not good. Batter was very greasy and the cook got a little too happy with the black pepper and spices in the beer batter as our throats were on fire after a couple bites. The wedge fries were ok. This review makes me so sad to write because we really enjoyed our visit here but happened to get terrible food poisoning after eating here. Our server was so friendly and accommodating. She checked in on us regularly and got us everything we needed. We all loved how the beer is filled from the bottom of the cup! The inside reminded me of a bar in Ireland! Lots of cobblestone and was pretty dark with lots of warm wood. A really cozy spot! We ordered a few things to share: 1. Cheese curds: 10/10. Perfectly breaded and super flavorful and a little spicy! 2. Clam Chowder: 8/10. Really yummy but hardly any clams in there. 3. Jalapeño Clams: 8/10. Also really yummy and flavorful but many of the clam shells were empty and very small clams in general. I noticed the broth was watery and tasted a little more "clammy" than usual. I'm positive that this is the one that gave me food poisoning. 4. Irish Stew: 8/10. So flavorful with tender meat. I had a bite but my husband ate only this and still got food poisoning. A few hours after eating all of this, I vomited up all of the clams and continued to vomit throughout the night. My food poisoning lasted a few days and it was very unpleasant. My partner also got extremely ill the night after eating here. His food poisoning lasted the same amount of time. The food was good but I felt obligated to inform the public that the food here (at least when we went) was not safe to eat! read more

My husband considers himself a Reuben connoisseur and said this Reuben made top 5 for him. I had a bite and had to admit that the ingredients were fresh, flavorful and really hit all the marks! This was a place I could count on as a vegan. They offered the best vegan burger, the Beyond Burger. They have recently changed to another, inferior patty. I'm so disappointed. The outdoor patio was perfect for our family. We were able to enjoy our meal and the beautiful weather. (On a side note, I really appreciate it when establishments offer half sandwiches or half orders of dishes. I don't necessarily want to tote leftovers back to the motel when traveling, and sometimes a full order seems like too much). I had somehow managed to saddle up next to the drunkest guy at the bar. As a female who travels solo, I generally avoid sitting at bars for this reason. The guy was harmless enough, but annoying as all hell. Although very busy, I got the sense that the bartender was keeping an eye on the situation to make sure drunk dude wasn't getting too weird; thankfully he departed before I finished my meal. Otherwise, the crowd seemed to be a jovial mix of tourists and locals. Service was attentive and my food arrived quickly. The sandwich was amazing and hit just the right spot, and the French fries were perfectly executed. I felt the price of my meal was very fair given quality and quantity. The Guinness Stew sounded great from the menu but when an opaque gel-like bowl of goop was placed in front of me I almost thought I was being punked! We stop at this restaurant about 2 years ago and was quite good so during our trip back Brookings Oregon we decided to revisit. The food quality has unfortunately gone down hill. I had the Ruben and when my sandwich arrived the toast was actually very burnt. I did not make a fuss but very surprised they would even serve it this way. My wife had the fish and chips and was just so so. Our waiter was great and our drinks were delicious. I am visiting Brookings. I can't believe how great the food was. I order the fish and chips , cheese curds and chicken wings . The fish and chips , hot crunchy outside with a flaky inside. Perfectly cooked. The service was on point , I shared the fish and chip dinner . The waiter brought out a second plate for us . They had two different kinds of cheese and hot and cheddar . The waiter let us do half and half so we could try both. The hot wings , baked and fried . The only way to make a great wing . But the biggest surprise came at the end . I was celebrating my birthday. I couldn't believe they brought me out a cupcake (delicious) and everyone sang happy birthday to me. The staff and the other customers. Every time we are in Harbor, we've enjoyed the Fat Irish since it first opened. Last night, we tried the regular fried cheese curds for the first time. They also offer a habanero style, but even the regular has some heat. Definitely recommend them. The larger dinner salad was a good size, and the Irish Red Beer was excellent. We thought the English style Clam Chowder was tasty, but a little too thick. Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed the food, beverages, and the service which was excellent. read more
