Finally tried this spot after living in the area for 8 months. We came in soon after 9:45am on Sunday and the place was bustling. Walking in, we figured out that we had to put our names ourselves on the list at the front, but counter service is seat yourself which we took advantage of because there was only two of us. Since I was going to be having a brunch later in the day (so basically two breakfasts ha) I didn't want to order any egg dishes and opted for the bowl of oatmeal and raisins. My husband ordered the Norm's omelette with a side of one pancake. This is definitely not your simple, watery Quaker Oats bowl of oatmeal here. It was a heaping bowl of thick oatty goodness with raisins and brown sugar on the side. I'm kind of on a health kick, so I didn't dump everything in but it still tasted amazing and satisfying... I couldn't finish the whole thing. My husband's huge omelette that he let me steal a couple guilt-inducing bites from tasted heavenly as well. The veggies nestled inside combined with the oozing cheese was perfect. He wasn't able to finish his dish as well due to the size. We just wished we had tried the pancakes before it got cold although we definitely couldn't complain about how it tasted. Fat Nat's is my go-to for diner-style breakfast. Easy parking and large dining area. Upon walking in, my mug of coffee routinely beats me to the table and is replenished as nauseum. Order your hash browns extra crispy and your pancakes with blueberries and there's no better way to start the day. Every time I visit my parents, I drive past this place so I was pretty excited to give it a try when Original Pancake House ended up having a three hour wait. I was a little disappointed with my experience but I'm thinking I might give this place another try. I ordered the Avocado Benedict, Blueberry Pancakes, and hash browns with grilled onions. The best part was definitely the hash browns because honestly, who could resist the crispy/buttery/savory/greasy goodness? I was super bummed about the avocado benedict because the avocado verde completely overwhelmed the dish...there is such a thing as too much avocado y'all. The blueberry pancakes were okay, nothing too special other than the fact that they were huge. Service was fine, food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and parking was easy. I am not a general food snob but I am without a doubt a breakfast food snob so I have high standards when it comes to the first meal of the day!!! It is small town diner style (crammed in and no substitutions on the food) with an upgrade and absolutely always packed (yes, you will wait in line unless you grab a seat at the counters. Service is good and fast. Oh, yes, the omelettes are probably made with six eggs (ok, not really, but get one and you may not need to eat the rest of the day). The staff is on top of their game filling water, removing empty plates and checking in at just the right time. I ordered the Emily Omelet because duh... I have been to this and other locations multiple times. The staff is so kind and sweet. I have never been disappointed with whatever I order. The French Toast is thick and tender. I love breakfast food and I love spicy food. If there is a place that can combine the too, I'm sold. Fat Nat's is a diner, but a more upscale diner. You'll find all the traditional diner style foods plus some Mexican food options. I was highly skeptical when I saw Mexican options because my experience with Mexican food in Minnesota so far has been less than stellar. I ordered the huevos rancheros con papas favorito. It is huevos rancheros (sunny side up eggs served with beans and cheese over tortilla chips) and french fries (the big steak cut ones). It came with a spicy salsa verde guacamole and some home made salsa. Now usually when I see spicy it is based off the "ketchup is spicy" scale. I was so pleasantly surprised to find that this dish actually had real heat, not wimpy heat. There was a lot of flavor and heat to this dish. I was really impressed at how good the food was. A+ there. The service was a bit lack luster for me. Good service to me is like a ninja. They swoop in and out without you ever noticing they were there. My dish was super hot and I would have loved more water. All of our waters were low and stayed low for some time. Not a huge complaint, but just felt like we got ignored being at the high tops. I also have to say their pancakes looks great, but were not. My friend got a short stack of blueberry pancakes, and they just were not good. I was super disappointed in them. They were super dry and had a weird texture about them. Given the limited options nearby I did not have high expectations for this place. I was blown away though by how good the food was and the fact that their spicy really did pack a punch. 28/100 read more

It was dark yet electric school bus yellow, runny yet gluey, and tasteless. Ugghhh! The pancakes are huge and really delicious. Crispy and buttery outside and soft on the inside....yeah... Hashbrowns are a solid "B". One time I ordered them with a side of the New Mexico hatch green chili sauce. The flavor was deep and the spice just built a little but not overwhelming. I gotta get that stuff again next time with my eggs and hashbrowns! I've had the burgers which are unexceptional along with some forgettable french fries. My friend liked her BLT but I can't comment personally. Oh yeah, the American fries are dumb. I like salt but they were a salinity bomb. The place is large and not open past 2pm. They have condiments for days which I always appreciate and I've never had bad service. Stick with the breakfast food. It's great to have Fat Nat's in my hood. FINALLY stopped in this morning. Surprisingly wasn't all that busy yet. The staff, including the cooks were super friendly and chatty, HUGE plus in my book. I didn't get anything extraordinary.....just two eggs, toast & bacon. The bacon was cooked to perfection. I really liked the American Fries that came with the meal, rather than upgrading to hashbrowns. The only bummer I found, which is MY preference and others may love it!!! Was when I ordered a chocolate milk....expected a glass of chocolate milk.... I was brought a milk and a bottle of Hershey's syrup...... If that was the case I am a tried & true Nestle Quick powder gal. Not the end of the world & definitely not a bad thing or enough to keep me away. It's one of those ridiculous suburban areas with brick buildings arranged in such a way to make you feel like you're in a quaint little town, but you're actually basically in the parking lot of a Wal Mart? And the back yard of a Cub Foods? Don't let that deter you, though! Fat Nat's Slider is described on the menu as "a lazy man's eggs benedict." Which is EXACTLY what I feel like I want most of the time when I go out to brunch. Don't you ever feel like a benedict is just too much work? While delicious, english muffins are not so easy to cut with a fork and knife, right? So that's what pretty much sold me. The slider is essentially a grilled cheese sandwich with ham and egg, sitting on top of a bed of hashbrowns, and smothered in like, two cups of hollandaise sauce. Served with a knife stabbed right in the middle of it, for dramatic flair. It was really tasty! The hash browns were perhaps my favorite part, fried nice and crispy and thin and wonderfully naughty when dredged through the hollandaise on the plate. I probably should have realized, from the ingredients of this ridiculous sandwich, that this would be a rich dish but... just a word of warning: it's rich. I ate only about half of my meal because the human body can only handle so much hollandaise sauce in one sitting. It's science. Anyway, here's what I thought: Atmosphere: I loved the cheery-feeling space. In lieu of kitchsy "decor," Nat's focuses on creating a sunny, warm, and bright room with yellow walls and ample light-fixtures. Service: Really impressive! Everyone we interacted with was friendly, efficient, and fun; our food came out really quickly and piping hot despite the full dining room. Presentation: I actually didn't expect for the presentation to be so thoughful from Nat's, but both of our meals looked fantastic on the plate. Taste: All of the flavors were there, but the proportions might have been a bit off (at least to our taste!) Its nice to see a local place in one of these "fake" downtowns that developers are creating all over the metro. We beat the lunch rush and had a nice relaxed breakfast. Green Chile Huevos for me. American fries, black beans, and chunks of chorizo smothered with a green chile sauce topped with 2 fried eggs. Yum! My wife had the avocado bacon benedict. I loved the forkful of it I tried. My first visit to Fat Nat's was a little frustrating with slow or inexperienced service, but I figured it was a new location still trying to figure out the flow. By last 2 visits have been much smoother. The menu is a mix of omelets and Benedict's with various delicious toppings like carnitas, the aforementioned guac and cheese, cheese, cheese.
