We lucked out with some gorgeous weather a few weeks back, so dining on the patio was very enjoyable, particularly with the cozy string lights on overhead. It was super packed, but some of the couples ahead of us rejected the tiny bar counter and stools at the end of the smaller patio; since those seats didn't bother us we were seated immediately! I don't remember the name of our waitress, but she was very friendly. She immediately brought us a water carafe and two glasses. She was back in under 5 minutes to take our order and our food came out super fast. We began with the Mixed Greens Salad with Chevre & Pine Nuts. The portion was generous and the salad was absolutely delicious. They let the flavor of the chevre & pine nuts really shine through by adding a very light olive oil based dressing. We then shared our favorite pizza, the Diavola, which was delicious as always. Their pizza crust is some of the best in the western U.S. I love the convenience of enjoying Pizzicletta at Dark Sky, but I think we'll be coming to this location from now on. We loved the ambiance and slightly expanded menu offered here. Plus, grabbing drinks two doors down at Mother Road before/after is an added bonus!

He apologized, but in a strangely unsurprised, apathetic manner--as if this was a regular occurrence. We told him we were leaving immediately, but he still made sure to charge us full price for the subpar salad before we walked out the door. Terrible food, nonexistent hygiene, and poor management. Eat anywhere else.

After eating next door for a lunch, we saw the signs all over MartAnne's claiming they are "The…read moreHouse That Chilaquiles Built!" We were intrigued enough that we visited MartAnne's the very next night for dinner. That was on a Tuesday at around 6PM and it wasn't too busy the entire time we were there. House Horchata ($5.99) - This drink comes in a giant 32 oz Ball jar with tons of ice. Per the server it's made with milk and condensed milk, no rice milk at all. It's rich, thick, creamy, sweet, filled with earthy notes of vanilla and cinnamon. There's so much spice included that at some points, there's almost a gritty feeling while drinking. It's perfect for a hot day after hiking. Buckwheat Pancake ala carte ($4.99) - Buckwheat pancakes are something we've never seen before on a diner menu in the past. It seems to be pretty common around Arizona, so we had to give it a try before leaving Flagstaff. This one's pretty big, almost plate sized. It's really moist, fluffy, bouncy, and light with a slight sweetness and a certain earthy flavor. It's moist enough that it sticks to the ceramic plate it's served on. The pancake is somewhat crumbly due to the low gluten content of buckwheat, although I believe they use a mix of buckwheat and wheat flour to give some more stability. It's bluish grey in color with black specks of ground buckwheat throughout. It's dusted with powdered sugar, but it's not a ton, making the pancake not really sweet at all. The pancake comes with a small cup of their cinnamon honey butter. It's not mixed that well, leaving it mostly unhomogenized with streaks of honey and spice through the softened salted butter. Tamale ala carte ($4.99) - MartAnne's offers two types of tamales - the first a red chile beef, and the second a green corn and cheese. We went with the latter, which is a homemade tamale with a somewhat looser, coarsely ground masa shell surrounding an interior of yellow sweet corn kernels, a bouncy and somewhat spongy block of Oaxaca cheese, and a fragrant green chile. There's a slight sweetness throughout and the tamale overall is easy to eat. Chilaquiles, Xmas, Fratelli ($17.99) - This is a monster sized plate of a mishmash of ingredients. There are three things as essentially a base layer. Firstly some Mexican rice that's tender, moist, and fluffy, totally unlike the more common dry and and compact version. My guess is that they skip the initial frying step that helps keeps the starch together. It's quite fragrant and has gives a bit of heat. On top of the rice is a layer of hash browns. The potatoes are tender on the interior, griddled on one side to give a delightful crunch, although there's some acridity that develops. Another third of the plate is covered with chili beans - tender pinto beans that are well salted and seasoned. Then there's the eggs stuffed in between layers of corn tortilla chips, smothered with sauce. I went with the Christmas combination of red and green sauce, followed up by the Fratelli-style pork green chile. The green sauce is fragrant and vegetal, while the red sauce is more smoky. The pork, which is cut into chunks, on top is a bit tough and dry but there's more than enough sauce to make up for that slight demerit. Finally, there's a small mound of I believe jalapeno peppers, cut into small neon-green colored pieces. Some pieces are spicy, some are mild, all have a vegetal pepper taste. I found the food at MartAnne's to be pretty good. It definitely hits the spot after hiking all around the area for most of the day. Bathrooms - Two individual rooms, one for men, one for women. Note: MartAnne's charges a 3.5% credit card fee. This is labeled on the menu.

The only problem I have with it is that on a recent trip through town I made a point of stopping here with my dog, both their yelp listing and Apple maps listing have them down as dog friendly. I was turned away at the door because they do not allow dogs.

The Wood Fired Stracciatella with added prosciutto was silky, rich, and indulgent in all the right ways. If I could give zero stars, I would. My girlfriend and I had an awful experience at Fat Olives from start to finish. When we were seated, our table was still dirty--crumbs, smudges, and who knows what else. The overall ambiance wasn't great either; it felt chaotic, and the place just didn't have a welcoming vibe. Our waitress was completely inattentive, barely checking on us. We had to flag her down multiple times just to get basic service. Our food came out wrong, our drinks were never refilled, and the food itself was just bad. We tried multiple items from the menu, hoping something would be decent, but everything was disappointing. The worst part? We both ended up with food poisoning. We were sick for days, which not only ruined our trip but also made us miss our visit to the Lowell Observatory. Those tickets were $70, completely wasted because we were too sick to go. Instead of enjoying our vacation, we spent the next couple of days absolutely miserable. I genuinely love giving great reviews when they're deserved, but I have to be honest--this was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Save yourself the trouble and eat somewhere else. The staff were incredibly friendly and genuinely seemed happy to be there--smiles all around, which made the experience even better. One thing that really stood out was how well the whole crew worked together. They clearly have a great system in place, and it shows. Despite the restaurant being busy, my food arrived incredibly fast--both the rigatoni and pepperoni pizza were at my table in less than 10 minutes. The food itself was outstanding. The rigatoni was packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and easily one of the best pasta dishes I've had in a while. You can tell they use quality ingredients and know their way around a wood-fired oven. But what truly made our visit unforgettable was our server, Michael. He was the best of the best--super pleasant, genuinely kind, and carried the biggest smile throughout the entire evening. Decided to come back last night because our addiction to this pizza is just too hard to kick! It was another busy night but the staff handled it with grace. The hosts were an absolute delight quoted accurate wait times and directed us to the bar to pass the time. The bartender was sweet and efficient, she kept us busy with great conversation. Once at our table the server chelsea was knowledgeable and quick, she reminded us why we fell in love with fat olives. Thanks for the wonderful experience. One star, not because of the food, but because of the service. We had some friends in town and we were really excited to take them to one of our favorite restaurants, but wish we didn't. Our waitress Hannah was one of the rudest people I have ever encountered in the service industry. The simplest request felt like a burden to her. Luckily the delicious wood fired pizza made up for her lack of consideration. I had the margherita D.O.P and Veggie Pizzas as well as the Straciatella. All three dishes were excellent. The spice level was perfect, and the food was fresh and flavorful. The desserts were also delicious. I had the pistachio cannoli, tiramisu, and a flourless chocolate cake, and all three were to die for. Venue: The restaurant is clean and well-maintained. My boyfriend and I patronized Fat Olives after a ridiculously stressful day in Flagstaff, and it was exactly what the doctor ordered. From the cocktails, to the mini-happy-hour appetizers, to the arribiata pizza to the s'more dessert, we were completely thrilled and satisfied with everything that went in our mouths. I agree with another poster about the rudeness of the hostess with the short hair, she was abrupt and kept us waiting (even though they had literally just opened the doors and there was only one other table inside). I hate when a hostess knows you are there but won't acknowledge you, preferring to stare at whatever they are writing....it takes a second to say, "be right with you" with a smile. But, our server in the bar smoothed us over and Fat Olives won with the incredible food and great bellinis. The housemade bread and mozz.....wow. Excellent Pizza with a nice atmosphere. The thin, tasty Pizza dough here is delicious! The pizza dough ingredients are imported from Italy and fire oven baked to perfection. There is a bar area, and a dining area that has booths, four top tables and seating at the pizza bar. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. Our waiter, was super nice and attentive. The drink menu was expansive, lots of wine choices as well as beer and mixed drinks. We were there for lunch, so we just had the iced tea, which was fresh brewed and refreshing with a generous slice of juicy lemon. In addition to the pizza, there were other traditional Italian dishes on the menu, as well as sandwiches. For the kiddies one of the offerings was a bowl of pasta with butter and cheese; exactly what my kids asked for when they were little! We discovered Fat Olives on a recent trip to Flagstaff. When you enter the restaurant it is very underwhelming! That all changed as soon as we were seated and our server Mike came to our table. Mike was AMAZING!!! Mike was so informative about the menu and gave us excellent suggestions. He also mentioned that Guy Fieri had eaten there and ordered the Belgio Dolce pizza. We all agreed to give it a try. The pizza was unlike anything I had ever had. It was fantastic!!!! We also tried the roasted olives and tomato bisque--both delicious. Portions were large and service was outstanding! We told Mike the food was so good we would come back on Thursday and we did. This time we ordered 1 pepperoni and 2 Belgio Dolce pizzas. The location is super convenient--just a quick hop off the highway, making it the perfect spot for a delicious break before getting back on I-40. On my last visit to Flagstaff, AZ, we stopped off at Fat Olives twice.. I'm glutton intolerant and was able to enjoy the regular thin crust pizza at Fat Olives. They do however offer glutton-free bread and pizza crust.. Lauren was our bartender and server. I tasted the artichokes, pizza, caprese salad and wine from the tap. My favorite was the appetizer plate of roasted vegetables. It is evident that the food is fresh and made from high quality ingredients. Food was absolutely delicious and the red wine was smooth. Everyone there works like a team and is happy to be there. The manager came over and said hello. Excellent customer service. Had an amazing time and will be back on our next visit. read more

Another delicious dinner! We've eaten at the always popular Fat Olives many times, but tonight we came in without a reservation. The host was polite and friendly, but didn't lie about the wait. He maintained his affable demeanor in the face of our loud conversation:) When we opted to stay and grab drinks at the bar, we committed a faux pas by sitting at an empty two-top (oops!). Waitstaff sweetly re-directed is to the lobby but seated us a bit earlier than the anticipated time. Our waiter was attentive without hovering, and the food....yum! My new favorite restaurant! I came to Fat Olives with my soon to be mother and brother in laws on a recent trip to Flagstaff. We were instantly excited about their happy hour menu. We ordered the Fat Olives insalata, Stracciatella, and abruzzo to share. All were fabulous. We each had a Peroni and decided to order a regular sized caprese and parma and arugula pizza. Delicious! The service was great, the beer was cold, and the restaurant had great ambiance. The happy hour prices can't be beat, and the regular menu prices are extremely reasonable.
