Dining at the bar.
Don W.

We stopped at Fat Patties for lunch on a recent Thursday. There was a few guys at the bar, and two family parties at tables. We opted for bar stools because of our history with this location. By that, I mean this building used to be our "go to" for lunch, drinks, and multiple events we co-produced with the previous owner. The previous owner passed unexpectedly a few years ago, and the place closed. We came ti try Fat Patties shortly after they opened this location, but we ran into a financial barricade. They only accept cash. We rarely have cash with us, had none that day, so we left. This time we were holding currency. It should be said here that they now have an ATM in the lounge, so you're good to go. They specialize in burgers and wings, so I ordered a burger and Meg a dozen wings. My burger was tasty. It was the "smallest one" they have, acccording to the bartender/server. It was humongous! Half a cow with trimmings. It was the basic cheeseburger with LTMO. I had a side of fries which I could probably develop a taste for. Meg reported that her garlic wings were "okay". Wings are subject to a lot of personal standards, so I queried further. Turns out they were fresh, cooked to perfection, but the garlic sauce was mostly on the bottom of the paper-bottomed, plastic mesh bowl. No biggie, right? That brings me to the way my burger was presented. It came in the same sort of plastic bowl with a paper lining. When served, the server offered silverware ti eat it with. She said most people eat their burgers with a knife and fork. They are huge, so I get that. I couldn't see any way that could be done with the mesk tray it came in. I ate it like a burger, using 2 hands and roughly a dozen paper napkins. The service was good, the server friendly and helpful. They had Meg's favorite wings wine and the Mexican beer I like. (Not the one you're thinking, though they did have that.) It was nostalgic and pleasant, lunching where we've enjoyed so many meals in the past. It still looks familiar, and I think whether you were a customer when it was Casey's or not, you'll pribably be comfortable and well fed at Fat Patties. Enjoy!

If you're looking for a slice of Binghamton history served with a side of old-school Italian charm,…read moreCortese Restaurant is essentially a local landmark. Since it first opened its doors in 1947, it has been a staple of the community, maintaining a vibe that feels like a step back into a more classic era of dining. Here is a breakdown of what makes this "East Side Institution" a must-visit: The Atmosphere & History Founded by Angeline Cortese and her sons, the restaurant has remained in the family for nearly 80 years. It's the kind of place where the booths are cozy, the lighting is dim, and the service is professional yet warm--making it just as suitable for a milestone anniversary as it is for a casual Friday night pizza. Menu Highlights The Homemade Sauce: This is the heart of the kitchen. Reviewers often describe the sauce as perfectly balanced--tangy with a hint of garlic and a natural sweetness from vine-ripened tomatoes. It's rich without being heavy, and it coats their fresh, homemade pasta beautifully. Veal and Peppers: A standout for fans of traditional Italian comfort food. The veal is tender, and the sautéed peppers add a sweetness that complements the savory notes of the dish. It's a hearty, authentic choice that showcases their "from-scratch" philosophy. Mozzarella Sticks: Forget the frozen variety; these are a fan favorite. They are hand-breaded and golden-fried, often served on a sampler platter or as a standalone starter. They are exactly what you want: a satisfying crunch followed by a perfect cheese pull. Baked Clams: Prepared in the classic "Oreganata" style, these are a sophisticated way to start your meal. They come topped with seasoned breadcrumbs and a touch of lemon and white wine, capturing that seaside Italian flavor. Tiramisu Cake: No trip to Cortese is complete without dessert. Their Tiramisu is light, airy, and layered with the right amount of espresso-soaked ladyfingers and creamy mascarpone. It's the perfect, not-too-sweet finish to a heavy meal. Pro Tips for Your Visit The "Hot Pie" Pizza: Cortese is famous for its unique rectangular pizza. The sauce is tangy, and the pepperoni is tucked under the cheese, which prevents it from getting greasy and keeps the flavor locked in.

It has a unique flavor and their sauce is one of a kind that you will not find elsewhere. My family of 5 small people can finish off a sheet pizza for dinner. Got home and noticed the cuts for the slices were smaller. Ok, no problem. The garlic, cheese looked good but was lacking in garlic. Ok a little garlic powder took care of that. Now the pepperoni pizza was an immediate fail. Big time fail, a fail to the point they should hang their heads in shame. First off, who the heck cuts pepperoni rounds in half ? The worst part wasn't just that the rounds were cut in half but the pepperoni was so thin you could read through it. Im serious ! I picked off a piece of pepperoni and there wasn't enough to it to even taste it. I have to say that this business that I've known and frequented my entire life has changed to the point I can't recommend it to anyone. I don't know if its them doing cost saving but I don't mind paying for good food providing its good food. FINI.

While we decided to stop in the Binghamton area, we looked at various pizzas online and found this restaurant whose Pizza appeared to be the closest to the New York City style. We ordered a medium pepperoni, the guy working in the counter seemed friendly and made us a fresh one while we sat and watched. When the pizza was done, he showed us what it looked like and whether we wanted it cooked more. He did warn us that he can always cook it more, but he can't uncook it. We asked him to cook it more, and he did a good job. We then sat in the car and ate this delicious pizza. I definitely ate way more than I was planning to, because it was just that good. In hindsight, I wish we ordered a large. The medium pepperoni pizza was roughly $20. They also have and all you can eat buffet, though neither of us can eat more than two slices of pizza to make it worth it. But if this is your thing, that would be another reason to visit here.
