English is a very versatile an descriptive language. However, English -- with more than one million words -- lacks the ability to appropriately describe how awful this place is. So, some specifics. Every time I've been to Fatman's it is unpleasantly dirty. By dirty I mean that I left there with dirt visible on my clothes. I went here the night of the final Bears pre-season game for dinner after my wife and I visited my mother-in-law. I read mixed reviews on this site (many of them over 2 years old) so I didn't know what to expect. What I got was a kick-ass sports bar with great food. Delicious ribs, super Philly Cheesesteak sandwiched (called a Fat Philly), better than average wings, and an impressive beer list. All of this reasonably priced as well. Wings, full slab of ribs, Philly Sandwich, 2 beers and pop for just under $50. I also received a punch card that gets punched for each one of their 40 beers I try. Once I've tried them all I get a $50 gift card. Unfortunately the waitress just punched 1 & 2 on the card instead of the number of the beer, so I'll have to try and keep track of which beers I've had. The bar area could use a few more TVs, and maybe one for people outside, but the main dining area has more than enough with about 3 flat screens on the walls and every booth having their own. We tried to use a Restaurant.com gift certificate which was declined because the ribs were on special, but she was very sweet in doing it, so I could not stay mad knowing that I will certainly be back very soon. Maybe next time to play some pool or even a little volleyball in the 2 courts outside which seemed very popular while a DJ was spinning some good rock hits from the last 30 years. We had the best servers this past Friday night at this wonderful restaurant. Shaun and Jenny were PHENOMENAL! They were both very attentive, and made us feel like we were the only ones in the restaurant. (Even though they had a full dining room!) Their bar is great! They also have booths to sit and enjoy food. Their service could be better. But good for the most part. The patio is so much fun! Great for drinks and a smoke. They have a dj on the weekend but otherwise a juke box is available. Their bathrooms suck! So nasty. They should upgrade fast! read more

I was never here when this was a biker bar, so I guess I can't be too disappointed that it's now a place for sand volleyball and too much air conditioning. Service was slow. It took probably a good 15 minutes for someone's Diet Coke after the server made a mistake with the drinks and 45 minutes to get our sandwiches. However, said sandwich was delicious. I made a "custom burger", in which the diner chooses one "protein", one cheese, two fillings and a sauce. My vegan sandwich featured a portobello mushroom, grilled onions, extra mushrooms and hot buffalo sauce. They also offered a veggie patty as one of the options. I was more than satisfied by my dinner; it was more flavourful and filling than I expected. Fun random experience was sighting a hummingbird on the hibiscus bush on the patio. Awesome! read more

Stopped in here with my cousin and uncle for lunch. I got there a few minutes before they did and sat at the bar and had a few beers to warm up the palate. Yeah. The bar crowd seemed friendly enough and I had a few conversations with some of the patrons before my relatives got there. We moved back to the tables and had a few sandwiches for lunch. My uncle is picky (92 years old and from New Jersey) about his food and almost always orders fish this days. The meals were just the right size for lunch. I continued drinking from bottles at the table. The beer was cold and fresh and went down smoothly with the meal. All in all, a better than decent lunch. read more

Just stopped in for dinner and was out right ignored by all staff despite sign that said wait to be seated. Finally asked someone if we should seat ourselves and were told yes. Had to get our own menus and find a table. We were then IGNORED by waitstaff for almost 15 minutes. Both servers we saw made eye contact and moved on. When a couple came in after us, were seated, given menus, and drinks while we still ignored, we left. HORRIBLE service. It wasn't crowded. Only booths on the wall were seated. You'd think they'd want the business. No one seemed to care. They were recommended. Not sure why. read more

We've gone here a few times, I liked it. The first time we stopped here was when we were driving home from Ren Faire and they had run out of Ribs and Turkey Legs, how the hell does that happen!? On a mission to get some ribs, we decided to stop at Fat Man's and order some to go. By the look of the place I figured we were just going to get some sub par food, but the ribs were delicious. They were so tender the meat fell right off the bone, and the sauce was really good. The most surprising thing to me was the cole slaw, you could tell it was completely fresh and homemade. I was really surprised, it's not often you can get good cole slaw. As for the atmosphere of the place, it's a nice little dive bar. We've gone a few times to hang out, drink some beer, and play some of the games, and it was fun. Definitely a place I would go back to, and would order food from again. read more

As far as bars in the Gurnee area a are concerned, this place is pretty cool. The bartenders usually make pretty generous mixed drinks and their beer prices are really fair. It usually has kinda an eclectic mix from bros to blue collars, and it doesn't stay crowded too late into the evening. I've only been there late at night, but I know at least one time we ordered food around 10pm and it was awesome. A fun place to go to on a summer night and play some pool, darts, or sand volleyball. read more

So I can't say much for the food or alcohol here but I can rate the volleyball courts and that's what I'm gonna do! Living in sf I don't really play beach volleyball despite the ocean being right there. 1. Because its far to cold and 2. Because the beaches are kinda nasty. The fatman courts were really well kept and I had a fantastic time playing on them. The fact that they are located right next to a bar makes them that much better. Wow has this place changed over the years. Originally this was a biker dive bar, very dirty and not the best place to hang out. Well over the last 6-7 years it has gone from biker bar to NASCAR loving- outdoor volleyball playing-family breakfast buffet place. I think I liked it better when it was a biker bar, it had more character and was not trying to be something it is not since Fat Man is a play on the Harley bike Fat Boy, thus the reason it was a biker bar. At least change the name to something more generic to fit more into its image. Still it is not bad food and drink wise. Easy to get to and a large parking lot. read more

A spacious fun car with a huge volleyball net. Again this is a summer place and the food here is better than it sounds on the menu. There are plenty of TV screens and some gambling as well. The bartender was attentive and assertive. read more

I've been here a few times over the past several years and never had a problem. But last Sunday(when the Bears got trounced by the Bucs), came to watch the game with my Dad who was in town from S. Carolina and my daughter. We sat ourselves in the fairly desolate dining area because there was no one hosting(perfectly fine), and then lingered for about ten minutes, waiting on service. We watched several employees, including one who we supposed was the manager/owner(physique was a possible clue on the latter) obliviously walk past. Eventually my dad got up and told the assumed fatman that we'd been waiting a bit longer than usual, especially considering we were one party of only a few in that particular area. He said he'd deal with it, and as my dad was walking back, told the bartender(the only employee actually "working", as far as we could tell), to take our order. He took our drink order, brought them out, and said our server would be with us to take our meal order soon. He brought our drinks out within minutes whilst dealing with the only busy part of the establishment. We then sat for another 15 minutes, in a nearly empty area, watching wait staff walking between the bar, kitchen, and (where I suspect their true interests were), the outdoor seating. After all that, we were ready to take our business elsewhere. I went up to the bar to pay for the drinks we were served. The little mustachioed "fatman" supervisor completely ignored me. I finally got the attention of the bartender who was the only employee that did serve us and said,' Hey, I'm gonna pay for the drinks and we're just gonna go somewhere else to eat". He said, somewhat incredulously, "She never came to your table???", I said no. He apologized, and said don't worry about the drinks. I'll be back based on the service of that bartender. If I'm ever there again and that manager/owner fucks it up again, it'll be the last time. He should have gotten on his servers to do their jobs, not delegated his already busy bartender. In fact, he should have taken the order HIMSELF, if his wait staff was so overly burdened(which it obviously wasn't). Turns out, they just didn't care, just like him. If he fucks it up again, I'll spread the word far and wide to avoid the place. read more

Every Time I come here I have a great experience! The staff is great, the food is axing and the environment during a good sports game is infectious. They didn't have the first beer I requested but the waitress brought over three others for me to try which was awesome Bc I like to try new beers. I was here for a snack and a cold brew while I read my book and the calamari was seriously one of the best I have had. Over cooked calamari is rubbery and this stuff was perfect. This was just terrible. Had the breakfast that they serve anytime. Scrambled eggs, bacon, hashbrowns (that were actually tater tots) and English muffin. It took a very long time to arrive. Once it did, the eggs tasted sour. I am guessing they use some liquid eggs and it was not fresh. The burger my husband ordered came well done with lettuce that was iceberg and actually all white - no green. I am home now feeling being sick from the thing they call "eggs". The service was nice, but not attentive. We were there for over an hour mostly just waiting to get the food and the check. The waitress was explaining to another table that their soda all tastes strange because they use an off brand of syrup and never use anything name brand. I have been to this restaurant many times. I would never give it five stars but I never have been sick from eating here before. Disappointed, sick, unhappy and will not be back. read more

I just finished trying Fatman's for the first time. I got the pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, and garlic bread chicken. It was not piping hot but I ordered delivery so I totally expect that, it's not an issue. Fatman's a little pricey but I will have to say it was well worth it, this is the first good BBQ I've had since moving to This area 8 months ago. Very good and I will be ordering from here again! I've had breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner here. I've ordered takeout and dined in. I've never finished eating a meal from this restaurant and been satisfied. The mozzarella sticks had liquid that spewed out on me after taking a bite. The fries come out soggy. The lettuce wraps were given to me with lettuce that I couldn't even use to put the filling in. Their giant French toast is subpar and hard. The eggs Benedict I got came with over hard eggs instead of overeasy. I've really tried to like the food here and give it a fighting chance, but they can't seem to get anything right. The staff is nice and the drinks usually aren't bad, but as I wouldn't recommend eating here to anyone. read more

I have only lived here for a year, and have been here several times because my friends liked it. More like it was convenient. Anyway, I have overlooked the fact that the bartender had an attitude and was drinking, overlooked the fact that the cook can only get the order correct on the second or third attempt, overlooked tge fact that there housekeeping skills are third rate at best. But, after witnessing first hand this Khayat guy that owns place blow up on his employee's like they were ten year old kids, I'm done. Nobody has the right to do that. Who does he think he is? I would give them 0 stars if I could as I didn't even get the opportunity to try the food. My wife and I went there for a date night and were very disappointing. We placed our order for a 2 meat combo platter of ribs and brisket and a order of bacon dogs. Then we waited. We waited. And we waited. 40 minutes later with no refill on our drinks we saw a 9 top that was seated after we ordered our food get their food. When we said something to the server he first said he wasn't even our server. Then he came by the table and said our order was missing because two of their computers froze. Then he told us he would get the manager. A few minutes later we found the manager standing by the counter and informed him of our problem. He said the server told him but he hadn't come to our table yet because he still hadn't figured out the problem. We told him to cancel our order and left because we were hungry and very tired of waiting. We will not be back. read more

This was interesting. I gave it two stars because of some of the staff was nice. The place didn't look clean at all we hesitated at first to even eat there but with their 4 star rating we thought to try it. The bathrooms were disgusting!!!! It had backed up sewers and feces everywhere. It was just filthy! Staff knew about it yet didn't clean it. Staff did however keep the bar clean. Food was ok could use different sauces for a better taste. Drinks were ok nothing special. Probably won't ever go back. read more
