Experience: This review was during the Covid and Shelter in Place situation. With that said, I was only able to order take-out and pick the food up at their located business. Parking: They have a free parking lot that is located in the back! If that is full, it appears that there is also street parking. Not sure if it is paid or free. Just ensure that you observe any street signs prior to parking. Worth: I am definitely coming back here again if I wanted something quick and greasy. They also have an outside patio that I want to eat at once this shelter in place is done with. Seems to be a great place to hang out and enjoy the weather if it permits. I've ordered from Fatso's a minimum of 10 times in 2023, and I'm not proud HA! Here's my honest review: The food is amazing, me and my family are always excited to order from Fatso's, but they're not cheap. I always order the Veggie Burger with Onion rings I take off one star for portion sizes and lack of consistency. When I first ordered fatso's they always included the house sauce on the side with the Onion Rings, but after a while that tradition became inconsistent. I never write reviews, but I actually got an account specifically for this burger joint. I was there on Friday, ordered a burger, and promptly dropped it all over the outdoor seating area. I went in, just to ask for some paper towels to clean it up, but they said they would clean it up, and they were making me a new burger, too. Food is great, not worth the price. Small on the inside and usually crowded. The outdoor seating is closed I'm sure because of the weather.

Yummmmm!! The boyfriend woke up with a taste for an Italian beef and I was in the city running errands so I wasn't close to my go-to spots (Johnny's or Portillo's). I've driven past this place so many times and have always wanted to check them out. I got an Italian beef, dipped with sweet & hot peppers. It comes with fries for $9. I thought the beef had a really nice flavor - kinda salty, which I like! The sweet peppers were different as there were red bell peppers - tasty! And you can't go wrong with hand cut fries... My friend got the cheesy tator tots that come with Fatso sauce. Those were really good to! Kinda of reminded me of a hush puppy, but better! Next time I'm going to have to try a burger. This place is small in space on the inside and when it comes to the prices but it's enormous everywhere else! Big portions, big flavors, big lines and big satisfaction! I never had a Chicago-style dog before because I always wanted my first one to be IN Chicago and despite my three previous Chi-town visits, for some reason or another, we just couldn't link up. That all changed in July. I had not one but two Chicago dogs. The first one was courtesy of Superdawg. It was good though I had nothing to compare it to because of my lack of experience. Then I came to Fatso's. In my opinion, Fatso's outdid Superdawg in every category that we tried from both restaurants. The Chicago-style hot dog, the burgers and even the fries. Fatso's was superior in all three, batting 1.000. After eating the hog dog at Superdawg, I was like,"OK. I can say I tried it." Finishing it at Fatso's had me like,"NOW I see why they love this out here!" And that bun covered patty was a gift from The Burger Gods. I'm enamored with simple burgers (ones without all the fancy, smancy toppings) that focus on taste and Fatso's burger excelled in this area. I also tried the mac and cheese and it is good and CHEESY! Double fatso with cheese: built like an in out burger - double double. Charred bun, similar sauce, fresh, but bigger and bar food style. The fried offerings here are well above average and the ooeey gooey is worth the 20 minute wait if you have patience. Must order fries and fried pickles with a side of sauce abd a cup of chz. This place used to be cash only, but now it takes cards. Not much room inside but there's picnic tables in the back with enough parking for approximately 10 cars. Every neighborhood has a greasy spoon. The hamburgers we had were great, but the fries sucked--lots of little broken bits. My boo is quite a messy eater and it was entertaining to watch him eat their Ooey Gooey burger. The burger was perfectly cooked medium, with the cheddar cheese super melted and the patty oozing with juices. Because of the juices, you gotta eat it quickly before it gets super soggy and falls apart completely. Their chicken tenders were fine. They went too heavy on the breading but at least they were seasoned right. Good, but certainly not worth it. The redeeming part of the dish were the fries that accompanied it. I overheard a couple of people order the shrimp po'boys so it must be special. Had I known, I would've gotten it instead of the chicken tenders. I can't believe I didn't know about this neighborhood gem in Ukrainian Village. It's probably my new favorite hot dog stand! I love char dogs but it's hard to find places that will make them, let alone use a hot dog thick enough to hold up to the grill. This place gets it right with a generous side of fries for just over $5. The char dog is perfectly topped Chicago style and uses a poppy seed bun! I had their char dog Chicago style and their Maxwell polish. They were both amazing. Most places serve just the basic steamed hot Dogs and a select few actually offered them charred. Charred is definitely the place to go. They both came with fries on top, the Chicago, with the usual mustard, onions, pickle, sport peppers and the polish with mustard and grilled onions. They both were perfectly done. The workers inside were pretty cool. They looked like they were having a great ol' time singing and dancing all while making me those perfectly delicious hot Dogs. I spent my time shopping and became hungry. I just walked along the street and found myself entering this place. There's a lot of tables outside that have a big umbrella in every table to protect from sunlight. When I enter there is also a dew table inside. I just tried their Char Cheddar Dog and Italian Sausage. After a couple of minutes it came. Char Cheddar Dog prepared with Chicago style which includes mustard, relish, onions, tomato, pickle, sport pepper and celery salt. Italian Sausage is a grilled Italian sausage served with spicy brown mustard, grilled onions and tomatoes. If you want it dressed a different way, just tell them how. Many places boil hotdogs, heck I can do that at home. Not as many places char them though on a grill. Makes for a good texture and flavor. Went with a macaroni and cheese option. The Mac and cheese has a good cheesy flavor and is seasoned sufficiently for my liking pairs well with the poppyseed bun. I got shrimp as well which was ok. The fries were better. My ooey gooey burger was over cooked to the point that the whole burnt piece came off, the cheese exploded from the burger before I even ate it, leaving a hole in the middle. I drove back out of my way to see if they can make me a new one, the guy said it's suppose to be like that, the griddle is super hot. Driving 10+ hours would make anybody hungry. Upon arriving in Chicago, a friend recommended that we visit Fatso's for a quick bite as it has outdoor seating that can accommodate our dog as well. Since hotdogs are apparently a speciality in Chicago I obliged and got a Char Dog. I wasn't used to a hot dog loaded with an excessive amount of toppings, but it was pretty good. So after eating here the first time I have decided this is one of the must visit spots when in Chicago.  There are plenty of great places to eat throughout the city and surrounding areas so saying that is giving major props to their food.  The portions are huge and hearty fitting the local Chicago flare.  You will find the standard Chicago dogs, Maxwell Street Polish, and such.  If you cannot make up your mind you can do a combo of your faves like I did.  I went with an Italian beef and Italian sausage sandwich.  There was no complaining of where is the meat or it being too much bread.  The cooks must have been playing a game called hide the bread with tasty goodness.  I actually looked under the beef to make sure that the sausage was there.  It was and a good combination but it's one of those situations you start to get curious as to how to how their other offerings taste.  Hoping to get that chance soon. read more

Yes, it has the run-down, homely atmosphere and the inconvenient location that mark some of the best places to eat Chicago junk food, but the burger was merely fine, good even. It lacks the crunchy tang of an Au Cheval, the rich meatiness of a Bad Apple, the variety and creativity of a Kuma's Corner. Let's not confuse nostalgia or counter-signalling with true excellence here. The hot dog, on the other hand, which I also tried, has a little more potential. There was an unusually nice snap to the dog, and the usual toppings. But they need to fix their bun situation. They steamed the poppyseed bun hard enough that it was basically impossible to finish the hot dog without a knife and fork. I still enjoyed the trip, but it may be wasted on the sober. read more

I placed an order on Sunday, April 25, 2021 on Fatso's website and paid $59.12. When my partner arrived to pickup the order, Brandon, the manager told her that their online credit card system didn't work and our card wouldn't be charged. She then paid cash for the order. Of course, the online system did work properly and I was charged. I have the credit card receipt and cash receipt for the same order number. I called the Tuesday after the order was placed (April 27) and was told Brandon didn't work again until Thursday. I called and talked with Brandon. He took my information and said he'd look into it when someone who has access to their online system was available. I asked that he call me back when this was resolved. It's Monday, May 3 and I have yet to hear. I enjoy Fatso's and like the food but I don't know if they truly don't know how to use their system or if they are scamming people out of cash, hoping no one notices. I tried calling again now and no one is answering but I will continue to try. I would suggest giving your business to a restaurant that has it's systems in check and isn't double charging people. Plenty of businesses have closed during COVID so I'm sure there are other good places that are more deserving. If you do decide to order, I would suggest ordering on the phone and paying when you arrive in person. I still hope that Brandon will return my call so that this can be resolved. read more

We ordered from here last night and chose to have it delivered. Upon delivery we were missing one of our burgers so I called and was told I would have to come pick it up. I went and got the missing piece of our order and when I got home and opened everything both of our burgers were made incorrectly. I was very disappointed because the quality and service here is usually very good. Actually, don't pass anything on their menu up! Everything looked/sounded so good, I wished I could sample everything. This place will be on my list of go-tos when I'm in town next! The staff was super nice and friendly. The only thing I would have to say is that seating is limited (we came after a snow storm) and was not able to use the outside seating. I only see this being a problem for those who wish to dine in on those cold, snowy days/nights. The place had 2 tables (that sat 2 people) and a long bar area inside. I have been to many fast foods, but this is quite different. I decided to try eating here and I am expecting that,  hmm, it's like the other fast food, with no significant or unusual things. Wow. My brother likes to send me YouTube videos of food he'd like to try. A few days ago, he sent me a link to a video that featured this place. So, today I jump on the Blue Line, got off at Chicago St., and hiked about a mile to get to this quaint little classic Chicago hot dog stand. I ordered a double Fatso with cheese, fries, and a drink. The burger was one of the best burgers I've had in my life. I'm a minimalist when it comes to toppings, so I just got the Fatso sauce and cheese. Oh yeah! The cheese is...MERKT'S CHEDDAR!! You know, that spreadable sharp cheddar that you probably love to spread on some chicken-in-a-biscuits! If you don't know about it, I suggest you try it. After you spread it on a cracker, do yourself a favor and put a glob on your burger! The Fatso sauce is tangy and tasty and compliments the cheese very well. The burger was delightfully greasy as it should be. The fries rival another national joint named after a quintet of gentlemen. They are hand cut and perfectly salty. This is classic Chicago food tucked deeply into Ukrainian Village in West Town. You aren't going to find it in the touristy part of the city.
